1 T hen doth Solomon assemble the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, princes of the fathers of the sons of Israel, unto king Solomon, to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah from the city of David -- it Zion;

Salomón ordenó que los ancianos de Israel y todos los jefes de las tribus, más los jefes de las familias israelitas, se reunieran en Jerusalén para llevar el arca del pacto del Señor, de Sión a la ciudad de David.

2 a nd all the men of Israel are assembled unto king Solomon, in the month of Ethanim, in the festival -- the seventh month.

Todos los israelitas se reunieron con el rey Salomón durante la fiesta solemne del mes de Etanín, que es el séptimo mes del año.

3 A nd all the elders of Israel come in, and the priests lift up the ark,

Cuando los ancianos de Israel llegaron, los sacerdotes tomaron el arca

4 a nd bring up the ark of Jehovah, and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that in the tent, yea, the priests and the Levites bring them up.

y el tabernáculo de reunión, y todos los utensilios sagrados que estaban en el tabernáculo, los cuales llevaban los sacerdotes y los levitas.

5 A nd king Solomon and all the company of Israel who are met unto him with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that are not counted nor numbered for multitude.

El rey Salomón y todos los israelitas se reunieron delante del arca y ofrecieron en sacrificio ovejas y bueyes. ¡Eran tantos los animales ofrecidos que no se podían contar!

6 A nd the priests bring in the ark of the covenant of Jehovah unto its place, unto the oracle of the house, unto the holy of holies, unto the place of the wings of the cherubs;

Luego, los sacerdotes introdujeron el arca del pacto del Señor en el lugar reservado para ella, es decir, en el Lugar santísimo, en el santuario del templo, bajo las alas de los querubines.

7 f or the cherubs are spreading forth two wings unto the place of the ark, and the cherubs cover over the ark, and over its staves from above;

Sobre el lugar donde estaba el arca, los querubines tenían extendidas sus alas, con lo que cubrían el arca y sus travesaños.

8 a nd they lengthen the staves, and the heads of the staves are seen from the holy on the front of the oracle, and are not seen without, and they are there unto this day.

Éstos eran tan largos que sus extremos podían verse desde el lugar santo, que está frente al Lugar santísimo, aunque desde afuera no podían verse. Así se quedaron hasta el día de hoy.

9 T here is nothing in the ark, only the two tables of stone which Moses put there in Horeb, when Jehovah covenanted with the sons of Israel in their going out of the land of Egypt.

Dentro del arca solamente estaban las dos tablas de piedra que Moisés había colocado en Horeb, donde el Señor hizo un pacto con los israelitas cuando salieron de Egipto.

10 A nd it cometh to pass, in the going out of the priests from the holy, that the cloud hath filled the house of Jehovah,

En el momento en que los sacerdotes salieron del santuario, la nube llenó el templo del Señor,

11 a nd the priests have not been able to stand to minister because of the cloud, for the honour of Jehovah hath filled the house of Jehovah.

así que ellos no pudieron quedarse para cumplir su ministerio, pues el Señor había llenado el templo con su gloria. Dedicación del templo

12 T hen said Solomon, `Jehovah hath said to dwell in thick darkness;

Entonces Salomón dijo: «Tú, Señor, has dicho que habitas en la oscuridad.

13 I have surely built a house of habitation for Thee; a fixed place for Thine abiding to the ages.'

Pero yo te he construido un templo para que habites allí por siempre.»

14 A nd the king turneth round his face, and blesseth the whole assembly of Israel; and all the assembly of Israel is standing.

Luego volvió el rostro hacia el pueblo de Israel, que permanecía de pie, y les dio la bendición.

15 A nd he saith, `Blessed Jehovah, God of Israel, who spake by His mouth with David my father, and by His hand hath fulfilled, saying,

Y dijo: «Bendito sea el Señor, Dios de Israel, que le hizo una promesa a David, mi padre, y la ha cumplido. El Señor le dijo:

16 F rom the day that I brought out My people, even Israel, from Egypt, I have not fixed on a city out of all the tribes of Israel, to build a house for My name being there; and I fix on David to be over My people Israel.

“Desde el día en que saqué de Egipto a mi pueblo Israel, de ninguna de sus tribus escogí una ciudad para que se me construyera un templo donde se honrara mi nombre; pero elegí a David para que gobernara a mi pueblo Israel.”

17 ` And it is with the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah, God of Israel,

Y mi padre David se propuso de todo corazón edificar un templo donde se honrara el nombre del Señor y Dios de Israel.

18 a nd Jehovah saith unto David my father, Because that it hath been with thy heart to build a house for My name, thou hast done well that it hath been with thy heart;

Pero el Señor le dijo: “Es muy bueno tu deseo sincero de construir un templo donde se honre mi nombre.

19 o nly, thou dost not build the house, but thy son who is coming out from thy loins, he doth build the house for My name.

Pero no serás tú quien lo construya, sino el hijo que vas a engrendrar. Será él quien edifique el templo donde se honrará mi nombre.”

20 ` And Jehovah doth establish His word which He spake, and I am risen up instead of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah spake, and build the house for the name of Jehovah, God of Israel,

»El Señor ha cumplido su palabra, pues me puso en el lugar de mi padre y me ha sentado en el trono de Israel, tal como lo prometió. Además, he construido el templo al nombre del Señor y Dios de Israel,

21 a nd set there a place for the ark, where the covenant of Jehovah which He made with our fathers in His bringing them out from the land of Egypt.'

y allí he apartado un lugar para colocar el arca que guarda el pacto que el Señor hizo con nuestros antepasados cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto.»

22 A nd Solomon standeth before the altar of Jehovah, over-against all the assembly of Israel, and spreadeth his hands towards the heavens,

Luego, Salomón se paró frente al altar del Señor, y en presencia de todo el pueblo de Israel extendió los brazos al cielo y dijo:

23 a nd saith, `Jehovah, God of Israel, there is not a God like Thee, in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath, keeping the covenant and the kindness for Thy servants, those walking before Thee with all their heart,

«Señor y Dios de Israel, no hay en los cielos ni en la tierra otro Dios como tú, pues tú cumples tu pacto y tienes misericordia de quienes te honran y te obedecen de todo corazón;

24 w ho hast kept for Thy servant David my father that which Thou spakest to him; yea, Thou speakest with Thy mouth, and with Thy hand hast fulfilled, as this day.

tú has cumplido la promesa que le hiciste a tu siervo, mi padre David; lo que entonces le prometiste de palabra, hoy vemos que se ha cumplido.

25 ` And now, Jehovah, God of Israel, keep for Thy servant David my father that which Thou spakest to him, saying, There is not cut off to thee a man from before Me, sitting on the throne of Israel -- only, if thy sons watch their way, to walk before Me as thou hast walked before Me.

Lo que sigue, Señor y Dios de Israel, es que también cumplas la promesa que le hiciste a mi padre David, tu siervo, cuando le dijiste: “Nunca faltará delante de mí un descendiente tuyo que ocupe el trono de Israel, siempre y cuando vaya por mis sendas y me obedezca como lo has hecho tú.”

26 ` And now, O God of Israel, let it be established, I pray Thee, Thy word which Thou hast spoken to Thy servant, David my father.

Te ruego, Señor y Dios de Israel, que cumplas esa promesa que le hiciste a tu siervo David, mi padre.

27 B ut, is it true? -- God dwelleth on the earth! lo, the heavens, and the heavens of the heavens do not contain Thee, how much less this house which I have builded!

»¿En verdad, Señor, quieres vivir en este mundo? Si ni la gran expansión de los cielos es capaz de contenerte, ¡mucho menos este templo que he edificado en tu honor!

28 ` Then thou hast turned unto the prayer of Thy servant, and unto his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and unto the prayer which Thy servant is praying before Thee to-day,

No obstante, Señor mi Dios, sé que tú pondrás atención al clamor y a la plegaria que este siervo tuyo hoy eleva a ti.

29 f or Thine eyes being open towards this house night and day, towards the place of which Thou hast said, My Name is there; to hearken unto the prayer which Thy servant prayeth towards this place.

Dígnate posar, de día y de noche, tus ojos sobre este templo, pues un día prometiste: “Allí estará mi nombre.”

30 ` Then Thou hast hearkened unto the supplication of Thy servant, and of Thy people Israel, which they pray towards this place; yea, Thou dost hearken in the place of Thy dwelling, in the heavens -- and Thou hast hearkened, and hast forgiven,

¡Oye aquí las plegarias de tu pueblo Israel y de este siervo tuyo! ¡Que cuando vengan a este lugar tú, desde el cielo, donde habitas, escuches su clamor y los perdones!

31 t hat which a man sinneth against his neighbour, and he hath lifted up upon him an oath to cause him to swear, and the oath hath come in before Thine altar in this house,

»Si alguno ofende a su prójimo y lo obligan a jurar ante tu altar en este templo,

32 t hen Thou dost hear in the heavens, and hast done, and hast judged Thy servants, to declare wicked the wicked, to put his way on his head, and to declare righteous the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

tú, que escuchas desde el cielo, haz justicia a tus siervos y condena al impío. Que sus malas acciones recaigan sobre él, mientras que al hombre justo lo tratas como corresponde a su justicia.

33 ` In Thy people Israel being smitten before an enemy, because they sin against Thee, and they have turned back unto Thee, and have confessed Thy name, and prayed, and made supplication unto Thee in this house,

»Cuando los israelitas sean derrotados por sus enemigos, por haber pecado contra ti, si se arrepienten de su pecado y reconocen la grandeza de tu nombre, y oran y claman aquí en tu templo,

34 t hen thou dost hear in the heavens, and hast forgiven the sin of Thy people Israel, and brought them back unto the ground that Thou gavest to their fathers.

escúchalos tú en los cielos, y perdona el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y hazlos volver a la tierra que les diste a sus padres.

35 ` In the heavens being restrained, and there is no rain, because they sin against Thee, and they have prayed towards this place, and confessed Thy name, and from their sin turn back, for Thou dost afflict them,

»Si tu pueblo peca contra ti y el cielo les niega su lluvia, y si tú los afliges y ellos se arrepienten y vienen a este lugar reconociendo tu nombre,

36 t hen Thou dost hear in the heavens, and hast forgiven the sin of Thy servants, and of Thy people Israel, for Thou directest them the good way in which they go, and hast given rain on Thy land which Thou hast given to Thy people for inheritance.

te ruego que desde los cielos escuches a tus siervos, a tu pueblo Israel, y perdones su pecado; que le enseñes a seguir el buen camino, y que hagas llover sobre la tierra que le diste como herencia.

37 ` Famine -- when it is in the land; pestilence -- when it is; blasting, mildew, locust; caterpillar -- when it is; when its enemy hath distressed it in the land its gates, any plague, any sickness, --

»Si tu pueblo llega a padecer hambre, o peste, o plagas como hongos en los cereales, o langosta o pulgón; o si son sitiados por sus enemigos, o enfrentan alguna plaga o enfermedad,

38 a ny prayer, any supplication that of any man of all Thy people Israel, who know each the plague of his own heart, and hath spread his hands towards this house,

escucha las oraciones y las súplicas que te haga tu pueblo, o cualquiera de tus hijos, cuando sufran por su desgracia y, arrepentidos, levanten sus brazos hacia este templo;

39 t hen Thou dost hear in the heavens, the settled place of Thy dwelling, and hast forgiven, and hast done, and hast given to each according to all his ways, whose heart Thou knowest, (for Thou hast known -- Thyself alone -- the heart of all the sons of man),

escúchalos desde los cielos, donde habitas, y perdónalos; tú, que conoces el corazón de todo ser humano, dales lo que merezcan sus acciones,

40 s o that they fear Thee all the days that they are living on the face of the ground that Thou hast given to our fathers.

para que te honren todo el tiempo que vivan en la tierra que diste a nuestros antepasados.

41 ` And also, unto the stranger who is not of Thy people Israel, and hath come from a land afar off for Thy name's sake --

»Si los extranjeros, los que no pertenecen a tu pueblo Israel, saben de tu nombre y vienen a conocerte

42 ( for they hear of Thy great name, and of Thy strong hand, and of Thy stretched-out arm) -- and he hath come in and prayed towards this house,

(pues muchos sabrán de tu grandeza y de tu gran poder), y llegan a invocar tu nombre en este templo,

43 T hou dost hear in the heavens, the settled place of Thy dwelling, and hast done according to all that the stranger calleth unto Thee for, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know Thy name, to fear Thee like Thy people Israel, and to know that Thy name hath been called on this house which I have builded.

escúchalos desde los cielos, desde el lugar donde habitas, y trátalos según el motivo por el que te invocan, para que todos los pueblos de la tierra te conozcan y te honren, como lo hace tu pueblo Israel, y reconozcan que tú escuchas las oraciones que se hacen en este templo que construí para ti.

44 ` When Thy people doth go out to battle against its enemy, in the way that Thou dost send them, and they have prayed unto Jehovah the way of the city which thou hast fixed on, and of the house which I have builded for Thy name;

»Si tu pueblo sale a pelear contra sus enemigos, y siguen el camino que tú les indiques, y te piden ayuda mirando hacia la ciudad que elegiste y en donde edifiqué el templo en tu honor,

45 t hen Thou hast heard in the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and hast maintained their cause.

escucha desde el cielo su oración y súplica, y concédeles la victoria.

46 ` When they sin against Thee (for there is not a man who sinneth not), and Thou hast been angry with them, and hast given them up before an enemy, and they have taken captive their captivity unto the land of the enemy far off or near;

»Si acaso pecan contra ti (pues no hay nadie que no peque), y tú te enojas y los pones en manos de sus enemigos, y éstos los llevan cautivos a países enemigos, cercanos o lejanos,

47 a nd they have turned back unto their heart in the land whither they have been taken captive, and have turned back, and made supplication unto Thee, in the land of their captors, saying, We have sinned and done perversely -- we have done wickedly;

si tu pueblo recapacita en el país de su cautiverio y se arrepiente y clama a ti, y confiesa haber hecho lo malo y haberte ofendido;

48 y ea, they have turned back unto Thee, with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies who have taken them captive, and have prayed unto Thee the way of their land, which Thou gavest to their fathers, the city which Thou hast chosen, and the house which I have builded for Thy name:

si allá en la tierra de su cautiverio se vuelven a ti con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, y oran a ti con el rostro en dirección a la tierra que les diste a sus antepasados y a la ciudad que tú elegiste, mirando hacia el templo que edifiqué en tu honor,

49 ` Then Thou hast heard in the heavens, the settled place of Thy dwelling, their prayer and their supplication, and hast maintained their cause,

escucha desde los cielos donde habitas sus oraciones y lamentos, y hazles justicia.

50 a nd hast forgiven Thy people who have sinned against Thee, even all their transgressions which they have transgressed against Thee, and hast given them mercies before their captors, and they have had mercy them --

Perdona a tu pueblo por todos sus pecados, por haberse rebelado contra ti y por desobedecer tus mandatos, y haz que sus opresores les tengan compasión.

51 ( for Thy people and Thy inheritance they, whom Thou didst bring out of Egypt, out of the midst of the furnace of iron) --

¡Ellos son tu pueblo! ¡Te pertenecen, pues tú los sacaste de Egipto, de ese país que parecía un horno para fundir hierro!

52 f or Thine eyes being open unto the supplication of Thy servant, and unto the supplication of Thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all they call unto Thee for;

Mira con atención a tu pueblo y a este siervo tuyo, y escucha su oración cuando te invoquen.

53 f or Thou hast separated them to Thyself for an inheritance, out of all the peoples of the earth, as Thou didst speak by the hand of Moses Thy servant, in Thy bringing out our fathers from Egypt, O Lord Jehovah.'

Señor y Dios, Tú los apartaste para que fueran tuyos; tú los elegiste de entre todos los pueblos de la tierra. Así se lo hiciste saber a Moisés, tu siervo, cuando liberaste de Egipto a nuestros antepasados.»

54 A nd it cometh to pass, at Solomon's finishing to pray unto Jehovah all this prayer and supplication, he hath risen from before the altar of Jehovah, from bending on his knees, and his hands spread out to the heavens,

Cuando Salomón terminó de orar y de suplicar al Señor, se levantó de delante del altar, pues había estaba arrodillado, y con los brazos extendidos al cielo

55 a nd he standeth and blesseth all the assembly of Israel a loud voice, saying,

se puso de pie y bendijo a todo el pueblo de Israel con estas palabras:

56 ` Blessed Jehovah who hath given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He hath spoken; there hath not fallen one word of all His good word, which He spake by the hand of Moses his servant.

«Bendito sea el Señor, que le ha dado paz a su pueblo Israel, conforme a su promesa, sin dejar de cumplir ninguna de las promesas que le hizo a Moisés.

57 ` Jehovah our God is with us as He hath been with our fathers; He doth not forsake us nor leave us;

Que el Señor nuestro Dios esté con nosotros, como estuvo con nuestros primeros padres, y que no nos desampare ni nos abandone.

58 t o incline our heart unto Himself, to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commands, and His statutes, and His judgments, which He commanded our fathers;

Que nuestra voluntad se rinda ante él para que podamos andar por sus caminos y cumplamos sus mandamientos, estatutos y decretos, los cuales dio a nuestros primeros padres.

59 a nd these my words with which I have made supplication before Jehovah, are near unto Jehovah our God by day and by night, to maintain the cause of His servant, and the cause of His people Israel, the matter of a day in its day;

Que estas oraciones que he hecho delante del Señor, permanezcan ante su presencia en todo tiempo. Que él a su tiempo proteja la causa de este siervo suyo y de su pueblo Israel,

60 f or all the peoples of the earth knowing that Jehovah, He God; there is none else;

para que en todas las naciones de la tierra sepan que el Señor es Dios, y que no hay otro.

61 a nd your heart hath been perfect with Jehovah our God, to walk in His statutes, and to keep His commands, as this day.'

Que el corazón de todos ustedes sea totalmente sincero con el Señor nuestro Dios. Que siempre cumplan ustedes sus estatutos y obedezcan sus mandamientos, como lo han hecho hoy.»

62 A nd the king and all Israel with him are sacrificing a sacrifice before Jehovah;

A continuación, el rey y todo el pueblo de Israel ofrecieron sacrificios delante del Señor.

63 a nd Solomon sacrificeth the sacrifice of peace-offerings, which he hath sacrificed to Jehovah, oxen, twenty and two thousand, and sheep, a hundred and twenty thousand; and the king and all the sons of Israel dedicate the house of Jehovah.

Salomón ofreció al Señor, como sacrificios de reconciliación, veintidós mil bueyes y ciento veinte mil ovejas. Así fue como Salomón y los israelitas dedicaron el templo del Señor.

64 O n that day hath the king sanctified the middle of the court that before the house of Jehovah, for he hath made there the burnt-offering, and the present, and the fat of the peace-offerings; for the altar of brass that before Jehovah too little to contain the burnt-offering, and the present, and the fat of the peace-offerings.

Ese mismo día, Salomón consagró la parte central del atrio, frente al templo del Señor, porque allí ofreció los holocaustos, las ofrendas de cereales y la grasa de las ofrendas de reconciliación, pues en el altar de bronce que estaba delante del Señor no había espacio para los holocaustos ni para las ofrendas de cereales, ni para la grasa de los sacrificios de reconciliación.

65 A nd Solomon maketh, at that time, the festival -- and all Israel with him, a great assembly from the entering in of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt -- before Jehovah our God, seven days and seven days; fourteen days.

Ese día, y en presencia del Señor, Salomón y los israelitas hicieron fiesta, a la que asistió una multitud que venía desde la entrada de Jamat hasta el río de Egipto. Esa fiesta en honor al Señor se prolongó durante siete días más, y en total duró catorce días.

66 O n the eighth day he hath sent the people away, and they bless the king, and go to their tents, rejoicing and glad of heart for all the good that Jehovah hath done to David His servant, and to Israel His people.

Al octavo día, Salomón despidió al pueblo, y ellos bendijeron al rey; luego cada uno se fue a su ciudad, rebosando de gozo y alegría por todas las cosas buenas que el Señor había hecho a su siervo David y a su pueblo Israel.
