1 T he word that Jeremiah the prophet hath spoken unto Baruch son of Neriah, in his writing these words on a book from the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, saying:

En el año cuarto del reinado de Joacín hijo de Josías en Judá, el profeta Jeremías le dio este mensaje a Baruc hijo de Nerías, para que éste lo escribiera en un rollo de cuero. Esto fue lo que Jeremías le dictó:

2 ` Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, concerning thee, O Baruch:

«Así ha dicho el Señor Dios de Israel: “Tú, Baruc,

3 ` Thou hast said, Wo to me, now, for Jehovah hath added sorrow to my pain, I have been wearied with my sighing, and rest I have not found.

te has quejado de que yo, el Señor, he añadido tristeza a tu dolor. Dices estar fatigado de tanto gemir, y que no has hallado reposo.

4 T hus dost thou say unto him: Thus said Jehovah: Lo, that which I have built I am throwing down, and that which I have planted I am plucking up, even the whole land itself.

Pero yo, el Señor, te digo que puedo destruir lo que antes construí, y también arrancar lo que antes planté, es decir, toda esta tierra.

5 A nd thou -- thou seekest for thee great things -- do not seek, for lo, I am bringing in evil on all flesh -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and I have given to thee thy life for a spoil, in all places whither thou goest.'

No busques para ti grandes cosas, porque yo voy a traer el mal sobre la humanidad entera. Pero a ti te dejaré escapar con vida por dondequiera que vayas. Tu vida será tu botín de guerra.”» —Palabra del Señor.
