1 A nd Jacob lifteth up his feet, and goeth towards the land of the sons of the east;

Jacob siguió su camino, y llegó a la tierra de los orientales.

2 a nd he looketh, and lo, a well in the field, and lo, there three droves of a flock crouching by it, for from that well they water the droves, and the great stone on the mouth of the well.

Se fijó, y vio en el campo un pozo; cerca de él había tres rebaños de ovejas, porque de ese pozo bebían los ganados. Una piedra muy grande tapaba la boca del pozo.

3 ( When thither have all the droves been gathered, and they have rolled the stone from off the mouth of the well, and have watered the flock, then they have turned back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place.)

Cuando todos los rebaños se reunían, se removía la piedra que tapaba el pozo, y se daba de beber a las ovejas; después se volvía a poner la piedra sobre la boca del pozo.

4 A nd Jacob saith to them, `My brethren, from whence ye?' and they say, `We from Haran.'

Jacob les dijo: «Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde son ustedes?» Y ellos respondieron: «Somos de Jarán.»

5 A nd he saith to them, `Have ye known Laban, son of Nahor?' and they say, `We have known.'

Les dijo entonces: «¿Conocen ustedes a Labán, el hijo de Najor?» Y ellos dijeron: «Sí, lo conocemos.»

6 A nd he saith to them, `Hath he peace?' and they say, `Peace; and lo, Rachel his daughter is coming with the flock.'

Jacob les dijo: «¿Se encuentra bien?» Y ellos contestaron: «Él se encuentra bien. De hecho, aquí viene su hija Raquel con las ovejas.»

7 A nd he saith, `Lo, the day still great, not time for the cattle to be gathered; water ye the flock, and go, delight yourselves.'

Entonces él dijo: «Como pueden ver, aún es muy de día. Todavía no es tiempo de recoger el ganado. Denles agua a las ovejas, y llévenlas a los pastos.»

8 A nd they say, `We are not able, till that all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.'

Pero ellos le respondieron: «No podemos hacerlo, hasta que se junten todos los rebaños. Entonces se quitará la piedra de la boca del pozo, y les daremos agua a las ovejas.»

9 H e is yet speaking with them, and Rachel hath come with the flock which her father hath, for she shepherdess;

Todavía estaba él hablando con ellos, cuando llegó Raquel con el rebaño de su padre, pues ella era la pastora.

10 a nd it cometh to pass when Jacob hath seen Rachel, daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the flock of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob cometh nigh and rolleth the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watereth the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

Raquel era hija de Labán, hermano de la madre de Jacob, y el rebaño era de Labán. Cuando Jacob vio a Raquel, se acercó y removió la piedra de la boca del pozo, y dio de beber al rebaño,

11 A nd Jacob kisseth Rachel, and lifteth up his voice, and weepeth,

luego besó a Raquel, y sin más se echó a llorar.

12 a nd Jacob declareth to Rachel that he her father's brother, and that he Rebekah's son, and she runneth and declareth to her father.

Entonces Jacob le dijo a Raquel que él era sobrino de su padre, pues era hijo de Rebeca. Ella corrió entonces a dar esta noticia a su padre.

13 A nd it cometh to pass, when Laban heareth the report of Jacob his sister's son, that he runneth to meet him, and embraceth him, and kisseth him, and bringeth him in unto his house; and he recounteth to Laban all these things,

Al oír Labán estas noticias de Jacob, hijo de su hermana, corrió a recibirlo, y lo abrazó y lo besó, y lo llevó a su casa; allí Jacob le contó a Labán todas estas cosas.

14 a nd Laban saith to him, `Only my bone and my flesh thou;' and he dwelleth with him a month of days.

Y Labán le dijo: «Ciertamente, tú eres de mi propia sangre.» Y Jacob se quedó con él todo un mes.

15 A nd Laban saith to Jacob, `Is it because thou my brother that thou hast served me for nought? declare to me what thy hire.'

Entonces Labán le dijo a Jacob: «¿Vas a trabajar para mí de balde, sólo porque eres mi sobrino? ¡Dime cuánto quieres que te pague!»

16 A nd Laban hath two daughters, the name of the elder Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel,

Labán tenía dos hijas. La mayor se llamaba Lea, y la menor se llamaba Raquel.

17 a nd the eyes of Leah tender, and Rachel hath been fair of form and fair of appearance.

Los ojos de Lea eran tiernos, pero Raquel tenía una bella presencia y era de hermoso parecer.

18 A nd Jacob loveth Rachel, and saith, `I serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter:'

Jacob se enamoró de Raquel, y dijo: «Por Raquel, tu hija menor, yo te serviré siete años.»

19 a nd Laban saith, `It is better for me to give her to thee than to give her to another man; dwell with me;'

Y Labán respondió: «Es mejor que te la dé a ti, y no a otro hombre. Quédate conmigo.»

20 a nd Jacob serveth for Rachel seven years; and they are in his eyes as some days, because of his loving her.

Así fue como Jacob trabajó siete años por Raquel; pero le parecieron unos cuantos días, porque la amaba.

21 A nd Jacob saith unto Laban, `Give up my wife, for my days have been fulfilled, and I go in unto her;'

Un día, Jacob le dijo a Labán: «Mi plazo se ha cumplido. Dame a mi mujer, para unirme a ella.»

22 a nd Laban gathereth all the men of the place, and maketh a banquet.

Labán juntó entonces a todos los varones de aquel lugar, y ofreció un banquete.

23 A nd it cometh to pass in the evening, that he taketh Leah, his daughter, and bringeth her in unto him, and he goeth in unto her;

Cuando llegó la noche, Labán tomó a su hija Lea, y se la llevó a Jacob; y él se unió a ella.

24 a nd Laban giveth to her Zilpah, his maid-servant, to Leah his daughter, a maid-servant.

Además, Labán le dio a su hija Lea, por criada, a su sierva Zilpa.

25 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, that lo, it Leah; and he saith unto Laban, `What this thou hast done to me? for Rachel have I not served with thee? and why hast thou deceived me?'

Cuando llegó la mañana, Jacob vio que estaba con Lea; así que le dijo a Labán: «¿Qué es lo que me has hecho? ¿Acaso no te he servido por Raquel? ¿Por qué me has engañado?»

26 A nd Laban saith, `It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the first-born;

Y Labán respondió: «Aquí no acostumbramos dar a la hija menor antes que a la mayor.

27 f ulfil the week of this one, and we give to thee also this one, for the service which thou dost serve with me yet seven other years.'

Cumple esta semana, y se te dará también la otra, si trabajas para mí otros siete años.»

28 A nd Jacob doth so, and fulfilleth the week of this one, and he giveth to him Rachel his daughter, to him for a wife;

Jacob lo hizo así. Cumplió aquella semana, y Labán le dio a su hija Raquel por mujer.

29 a nd Laban giveth to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maid-servant, for a maid-servant to her.

A su hija Raquel, Labán le dio por criada a su sierva Bilá.

30 A nd he goeth in also unto Rachel, and he also loveth Rachel more than Leah; and he serveth with him yet seven other years.

Y Jacob se unió también a Raquel, y la amó mucho más que a Lea; y trabajó para Labán siete años más. Los hijos de Jacob

31 A nd Jehovah seeth that Leah the hated one, and He openeth her womb, and Rachel barren;

Al ver el Señor que Lea era menospreciada, le dio hijos; pero Raquel era estéril.

32 a nd Leah conceiveth, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Reuben, for she said, `Because Jehovah hath looked on mine affliction; because now doth my husband love me.'

Y Lea concibió y dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Rubén, pues dijo: «El Señor ha mirado mi aflicción, así que ahora mi marido me amará.»

33 A nd she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Because Jehovah hath heard that I the hated one, He also giveth to me even this;' and she calleth his name Simeon.

Volvió a concebir, y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces dijo: «El Señor oyó que yo era menospreciada, así que también me ha dado este hijo.» Por eso le puso por nombre Simeón.

34 A nd she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Now the time, my husband is joined unto me, because I have born to him three sons,' therefore hath called his name Levi.

Concibió una vez más, y dio a luz un hijo. Y dijo: «Esta vez mi marido se unirá conmigo, pues ya le he dado tres hijos.» Por eso le puso por nombre Leví.

35 A nd she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith this time, `I praise Jehovah;' therefore hath she called his name Judah; and she ceaseth from bearing.

Todavía concibió otra vez, y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces dijo: «Esta vez alabaré al Señor.» Por eso le puso por nombre Judá. Y dejó de dar a luz.
