1 A nd Jacob lifteth up his feet, and goeth towards the land of the sons of the east;

Iacov a pornit la drum, şi s'a dus în ţara celor ce locuiesc la Răsărit.

2 a nd he looketh, and lo, a well in the field, and lo, there three droves of a flock crouching by it, for from that well they water the droves, and the great stone on the mouth of the well.

S'a uitat înainte, şi iată că pe cîmp era o fîntînă; şi lîngă ea erau trei turme de oi, cari se odihneau; căci la fîntîna aceasta obicinuiau ciobanii să-şi adape turmele. Şi piatra de pe gura fîntînii era mare.

3 ( When thither have all the droves been gathered, and they have rolled the stone from off the mouth of the well, and have watered the flock, then they have turned back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place.)

Toate turmele se strîngeau acolo; ciobanii prăvăleau piatra de pe gura fîntînii, adăpau turmele, şi apoi puneau piatra iarăş la loc pe gura fîntînii.

4 A nd Jacob saith to them, `My brethren, from whence ye?' and they say, `We from Haran.'

Iacov a zis păstorilor:,, Fraţilor, de unde sînteţi?``,, Din Haran,`` au răspuns ei.

5 A nd he saith to them, `Have ye known Laban, son of Nahor?' and they say, `We have known.'

El le -a zis:,, Cunoaşteţi pe Laban, fiul lui Nahor?``,,Îl cunoaştem,`` i-au răspuns ei.

6 A nd he saith to them, `Hath he peace?' and they say, `Peace; and lo, Rachel his daughter is coming with the flock.'

El le -a zis:,, Este sănătos?``,, Sănătos``, au răspuns ei. Şi tocmai atunci venea Rahela, fata lui, cu oile.

7 A nd he saith, `Lo, the day still great, not time for the cattle to be gathered; water ye the flock, and go, delight yourselves.'

El a zis:,, Iată, soarele este încă sus, şi -i prea devreme ca să strîngeţi vitele: adăpaţi oile, apoi duceţi-vă şi paşteţi-le iarăş.``

8 A nd they say, `We are not able, till that all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.'

Ei au răspuns:,, Nu putem, pînă nu se vor strînge toate turmele; atunci se prăvăleşte piatra de pe gura fîntînii, şi vom adăpa oile.``

9 H e is yet speaking with them, and Rachel hath come with the flock which her father hath, for she shepherdess;

Pe cînd le vorbea el încă, vine Rahela cu oile tatălui său; căci ea le păzea.

10 a nd it cometh to pass when Jacob hath seen Rachel, daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the flock of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob cometh nigh and rolleth the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watereth the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

Cînd a văzut Iacov pe Rahela, fata lui Laban, fratele mamei sale, şi turma lui Laban, fratele mamei sale, s'a apropiat, a prăvălit piatra de pe gura fîntînii, şi a adăpat turma lui Laban, fratele mamei sale.

11 A nd Jacob kisseth Rachel, and lifteth up his voice, and weepeth,

Apoi Iacov a sărutat pe Rahela, şi a început să plîngă tare.

12 a nd Jacob declareth to Rachel that he her father's brother, and that he Rebekah's son, and she runneth and declareth to her father.

Iacov a spus Rahelei că este rudă cu tatăl ei, că este fiul Rebecii. Şi ea a dat fuga de a spus tatălui său.

13 A nd it cometh to pass, when Laban heareth the report of Jacob his sister's son, that he runneth to meet him, and embraceth him, and kisseth him, and bringeth him in unto his house; and he recounteth to Laban all these things,

Cum a auzit Laban de Iacov, fiul sorei sale, i -a alergat înainte, l -a îmbrăţişat, l -a sărutat, şi l -a adus în casă. Iacov a istorisit lui Laban toate cele întîmplate.

14 a nd Laban saith to him, `Only my bone and my flesh thou;' and he dwelleth with him a month of days.

Şi Laban i -a zis:,, Cu adevărat, tu eşti os din oasele mele, şi carne din carnea mea!`` Iacov a stat la Laban o lună.

15 A nd Laban saith to Jacob, `Is it because thou my brother that thou hast served me for nought? declare to me what thy hire.'

Apoi Laban a zis lui Iacov:,, Fiindcă eşti rudă cu mine, să-mi slujeşti oare degeaba? Spune-mi ce simbrie vrei?``

16 A nd Laban hath two daughters, the name of the elder Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel,

Laban însă avea două fete: cea mai mare se numea Lea, şi cea mai mică Rahela.

17 a nd the eyes of Leah tender, and Rachel hath been fair of form and fair of appearance.

Lea avea ochii slabi; dar Rahela era frumoasă la statură şi mîndră la faţă.

18 A nd Jacob loveth Rachel, and saith, `I serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter:'

Iacov iubea pe Rahela, şi a zis:,,Îţi voi sluji şapte ani pentru Rahela, fata ta cea mai mică.``

19 a nd Laban saith, `It is better for me to give her to thee than to give her to another man; dwell with me;'

Şi Laban a răspuns:,, Mai bine să ţi -o dau ţie, decît s'o dau altuia. Rămîi la mine!``

20 a nd Jacob serveth for Rachel seven years; and they are in his eyes as some days, because of his loving her.

Astfel Iacov a slujit şapte ani pentru Rahela; şi anii aceştia i s'au părut ca vreo cîteva zile, pentrucă o iubea.

21 A nd Jacob saith unto Laban, `Give up my wife, for my days have been fulfilled, and I go in unto her;'

În urmă Iacov a zis lui Laban:,, Dă-mi nevasta, căci mi s -a împlinit sorocul, ca să intru la ea.``

22 a nd Laban gathereth all the men of the place, and maketh a banquet.

Laban a adunat pe toţi oamenii locului şi a făcut un ospăţ.

23 A nd it cometh to pass in the evening, that he taketh Leah, his daughter, and bringeth her in unto him, and he goeth in unto her;

Seara, a luat pe fiică-sa Lea, şi a adus -o la Iacov, care s -a culcat cu ea.

24 a nd Laban giveth to her Zilpah, his maid-servant, to Leah his daughter, a maid-servant.

Şi Laban a dat ca roabă fetei sale Lea pe roaba sa Zilpa.

25 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, that lo, it Leah; and he saith unto Laban, `What this thou hast done to me? for Rachel have I not served with thee? and why hast thou deceived me?'

A doua zi dimineaţă, iată că era Lea. Atunci Iacov a zis lui Laban:,, Ce mi-ai făcut? Nu ţi-am slujit oare pentru Rahela? Pentru ce m'ai înşelat?``

26 A nd Laban saith, `It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the first-born;

Laban a răspuns:,,În locul acesta nu -i obicei să se dea cea mai tînără înaintea celei mai mari.

27 f ulfil the week of this one, and we give to thee also this one, for the service which thou dost serve with me yet seven other years.'

Isprăveşte săptămîna cu aceasta, şi-ţi vom da şi pe cealaltă pentru slujba, pe care o vei mai face la mine alţi şapte ani.``

28 A nd Jacob doth so, and fulfilleth the week of this one, and he giveth to him Rachel his daughter, to him for a wife;

Iacov a făcut aşa, şi a isprăvit săptămîna cu Lea; apoi Laban i -a dat de nevastă pe fiică-sa Rahela.

29 a nd Laban giveth to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maid-servant, for a maid-servant to her.

Şi Laban a dat ca roabă fetei sale Rahela, pe roaba sa Bilha.

30 A nd he goeth in also unto Rachel, and he also loveth Rachel more than Leah; and he serveth with him yet seven other years.

Iacov a intrat şi la Rahela, pe care o iubea mai mult decît pe Lea; şi a mai slujit la Laban alţi şapte ani.

31 A nd Jehovah seeth that Leah the hated one, and He openeth her womb, and Rachel barren;

Domnul a văzut că Lea nu era iubită; şi a făcut -o să aibă copii, pe cînd Rahela era stearpă.

32 a nd Leah conceiveth, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Reuben, for she said, `Because Jehovah hath looked on mine affliction; because now doth my husband love me.'

Lea a rămas însărcinată, şi a născut un fiu, căruia i -a pus numele Ruben (Vedeţi fiu);,, căci``, a zis ea,,, Domnul a văzut mîhnirea mea, şi acum bărbatul meu are să mă iubească negreşit.``

33 A nd she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Because Jehovah hath heard that I the hated one, He also giveth to me even this;' and she calleth his name Simeon.

A rămas iarăş însărcinată, şi a născut un fiu; şi a zis:,, Domnul a auzit că nu eram iubită, şi mi -a dat şi pe acesta.`` De aceea, i -a pus numele Simeon (Ascultare).

34 A nd she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Now the time, my husband is joined unto me, because I have born to him three sons,' therefore hath called his name Levi.

Iar a rămas însărcinată, şi a născut un fiu; şi a zis:,, De data aceasta, bărbatul meu se va alipi de mine, căci i-am născut trei fii.`` De aceea i -a pus numele Levi (Alipire).

35 A nd she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith this time, `I praise Jehovah;' therefore hath she called his name Judah; and she ceaseth from bearing.

A rămas iarăş însărcinată, şi a născut un fiu; şi a zis:,, De data aceasta, voi lăuda pe Domnul.`` Deaceea i -a pus numele Iuda (Lăudat fie Domnul). Şi a încetat să mai nască.
