1 T hus said Jehovah, `Go, and thou hast got a potter's earthen vessel, and of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests,

Aşa a vorbit Domnul:,, Du-te de cumpără de la un olar un vas de pămînt, şi ia cu tine pe cîţiva din bătrînii poporului şi din bătrînii preoţilor.

2 a nd thou hast gone forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, that at the opening of the gate of the pottery, and hast proclaimed there the words that I speak unto thee,

Du-te în valea Ben-Hinom, care este la intrarea porţii olăriei, şi acolo să vesteşti cuvintele pe cari ţi le voi spune.

3 a nd hast said, Hear a word of Jehovah, ye kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: `Lo, I am bringing in evil on this place, at which the ears of every one who is hearing it do tingle,

Să spui:, Ascultaţi Cuvîntul Domnului, împăraţi ai lui Iuda, şi locuitori ai Ierusalimului! Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel:, Iată, voi aduce peste locul acesta o nenorocire, care va face să ţiuie urechile oricui va auzi vorbindu-se de ea.

4 b ecause that they have forsaken Me, and make known this place, and make perfume in it to other gods, that they knew not, they and their fathers, and the kings of Judah, and they have filled this place innocent blood,

Pentrucă M'au părăsit, au spurcat locul acesta, au adus în el tămîie altor dumnezei, pe cari nu -i cunoşteau nici ei, nici părinţii lor, nici împăraţii lui Iuda, şi au umplut locul acesta cu sînge nevinovat.

5 a nd have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons with fire, burnt-offerings to Baal, that I commanded not, nor spake of, nor did it come up on My heart.

Au zidit şi înălţimi lui Baal, ca să ardă pe copiii lor în foc ca arderi de tot lui Baal: lucru, pe care nici nu -l poruncisem, nici nu -l rînduisem, şi nici nu-Mi trecuse prin minte.``

6 ` Therefore, lo, days are coming -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and this place is not called any more, Tophet, and Valley of the son of Hinnom, but, Valley of slaughter.

De aceea, iată, vin zile, zice Domnul, cînd locul acesta nu se va mai numi Tofet, nici Valea Ben-Hinom, ci se va numi Valea Măcelului!

7 A nd I have made void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and have caused them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those seeking their life, and I have given their carcase for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth,

În locul acesta voi zădărnici sfatul lui Iuda şi al Ierusalimului, îi voi face să cadă ucişi de sabie înaintea vrăjmaşilor lor, şi de mîna celor ce vor să le ia viaţa. Trupurile lor moarte le voi da hrană păsărilor cerului şi fiarelor pămîntului.

8 a nd I have made this city for a desolation, and for a hissing, every passer by it is astonished, and doth hiss for all its plagues.

Voi face din cetatea aceasta o groază şi o batjocură; aşa că toţi ceice vor trece pe lîngă ea, se vor îngrozi şi vor şuera, cînd vor vedea toate rănile ei.

9 A nd I have caused them to eat the flesh of their sons, and the flesh of their daughters, and each the flesh of his friend they do eat, in the siege and in the straitness with which straiten them do their enemies, and those seeking their life.

Îi voi face să mănînce carnea fiilor şi fiicelor lor, aşa că îşi vor mînca unii carnea altora, în mijlocul necazului şi strîmtorării, în care -i vor aduce vrăjmaşii lor, şi ceice vor să le ia viaţa.

10 ` And thou hast broken the bottle before the eyes of the men who are going with thee,

Să spargi apoi vasul, supt ochii oamenilor cari vor merge cu tine.

11 a nd hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Thus do I break this people and this city, as one breaketh the potter's vessel, that is not able to be repaired again, and in Tophet they bury -- without place to bury;

Şi să le spui:, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor:, Tocmai aşa voi zdrobi pe poporul acesta şi cetatea aceasta cum se sparge vasul unui olar, fără să poată fi făcut la loc. Şi morţii vor fi îngropaţi în Tofet, din lipsă de loc pentru îngropare.

12 s o I do to this place -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and to its inhabitants, so as to make this city as Tophet;

Aşa voi face locului acestuia-zice Domnul-şi locuitorilor lui, şi voi face cetatea aceasta ca Tofetul.

13 a nd the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, have been -- as the place of Tophet -- defiled, even all the houses on whose roofs they have made perfume to all the host of the heavens, so as to pour out oblations to other gods.'

Casele Ierusalimului, şi casele împăraţilor lui Iuda vor fi necurate ca Tofetul, toate casele pe acoperişul cărora se aducea tămîie întregei oştiri a cerurilor, şi se turnau jertfe de băutură altor dumnezei!``

14 A nd Jeremiah cometh in from Tophet, whither Jehovah had sent him to prophesy, and he standeth in the court of the house of Jehovah, and he saith unto all the people:

Ieremia s'a întors din Tofet, unde -l trimisese Domnul să proorocească. Apoi a stătut în curtea Casei Domnului, şi a zis întregului popor:

15 ` Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am bringing in unto this city, and on all its cities, all the evil that I have spoken against it, for they have hardened their neck -- not to hear My words!'

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel:,, Iată, voi aduce peste cetatea aceasta şi peste toate cetăţile cari ţin de ea, toate nenorocirile pe cari i le-am vestit mai dinainte, pentrucă şi-au înţepenit gîtul ca să n'asculte cuvintele Mele.``
