1 A nd two of the messengers come towards Sodom at even, and Lot is sitting at the gate of Sodom, and Lot seeth, and riseth to meet them, and boweth himself -- face to the earth,

Cei doi îngeri au ajuns la Sodoma seara; şi Lot şedea la poarta Sodomei. Cînd i -a văzut Lot, s'a sculat, le -a ieşit înainte, şi s'a plecat pînă la pămînt.

2 a nd he saith, `Lo, I pray you, my lords, turn aside, I pray you, unto the house of your servant, and lodge, and wash your feet -- then ye have risen early and gone on your way;' and they say, `Nay, but in the broad place we do lodge.'

Apoi a zis:,, Domnii mei, intraţi, vă rog, în casa robului vostru, ca să rămîneţi peste noapte în ea şi spălaţi-vă picioarele; mîne vă veţi scula de dimineaţă, şi vă veţi vedea de drum.``,, Nu``, au răspuns ei,,, ci vom petrece noaptea în uliţă``.

3 A nd he presseth on them greatly, and they turn aside unto him, and come in unto his house; and he maketh for them a banquet, and hath baked unleavened things; and they do eat.

Dar Lot a stăruit de ei pînă au venit şi au intrat în casa lui. Le -a pregătit o cină, a pus să coacă azimi şi au mîncat.

4 B efore they lie down, the men of the city -- men of Sodom -- have come round about against the house, from young even unto aged, all the people from the extremity;

Dar nu se culcaseră încă, şi oamenii din cetate, bărbaţii din Sodoma, tineri şi bătrîni, au înconjurat casa; tot norodul a alergat din toate colţurile.

5 a nd they call unto Lot and say to him, `Where the men who have come in unto thee to-night? bring them out unto us, and we know them.'

Au chemat pe Lot, şi i-au zis:,, Unde sînt oamenii cari au intrat la tine în noaptea aceasta? Scoate -i afară la noi, ca să ne împreunăm cu ei.``

6 A nd Lot goeth out unto them, to the opening, and the door hath shut behind him,

Lot a ieşit afară la ei la uşă, a încuiat uşa după el,

7 a nd saith, `Do not, I pray you, my brethren, do evil;

şi a zis:,, Fraţilor, vă rog, nu faceţi o asemenea răutate!

8 l o, I pray you, I have two daughters, who have not known any one; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do to them as good in your eyes; only to these men do not anything, for therefore have they come in within the shadow of my roof.'

Iată că am două fete cari nu ştiu de bărbat; am să vi le aduc afară, şi le veţi face ce vă va plăcea. Numai, nu faceţi nimic acestor oameni, fiindcă au venit supt umbra acoperişului casei mele.``

9 A nd they say, `Come nigh hither;' they say also, `This one hath come in to sojourn, and he certainly judgeth! now, we do evil to thee more than them;' and they press against the man, against Lot greatly, and come nigh to break the door.

Ei au strigat:,, Pleacă!`` Şi au zis:,, Omul acesta a venit să locuiască aici ca un străin, şi acum vrea să facă pe judecătorul. Ei bine, o să-ţi facem mai rău decît lor.`` Şi împingînd pe Lot cu sila, s'au apropiat să spargă uşa.

10 A nd the men put forth their hand, and bring in Lot unto them, into the house, and have shut the door;

Dar bărbaţii aceia au întins mîna, au tras pe Lot înlăuntru la ei în casă, şi au încuiat uşa.

11 a nd the men who at the opening of the house they have smitten with blindness, from small even unto great, and they weary themselves to find the opening.

Iar pe oamenii care erau la uşa casei i-au lovit cu orbire, dela cel mai mic pînă la cel mai mare, aşa că degeaba se trudeau să găsească uşa.

12 A nd the men say unto Lot, `Whom hast thou here still? son-in-law, thy sons also, and thy daughters, and all whom thou hast in the city, bring out from this place;

Bărbaţii aceia au zis lui Lot:,, Pe cine mai ai aici? Gineri, fii şi fiice, şi tot ce ai în cetate: scoate -i din locul acesta.

13 f or we are destroying this place, for their cry hath been great the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth send us to destroy it.'

Căci avem să nimicim locul acesta, pentru că a ajuns mare plîngere înaintea Domnului împotriva locuitorilor lui. De aceea ne -a trimes Domnul, ca să -l nimicim.``

14 A nd Lot goeth out, and speaketh unto his sons-in-law, those taking his daughters, and saith, `Rise, go out from this place, for Jehovah is destroying the city;' and he is as mocking in the eyes of his sons-in-law.

Lot a ieşit, şi a vorbit cu ginerii săi, cari luaseră pe fetele lui:,, Sculaţi-vă,`` a zis el,,, ieşiţi din locul acesta; căci Domnul are să nimicească cetatea.`` Dar ginerii lui credeau că glumeşte.

15 A nd when the dawn hath ascended, then the messengers press upon Lot, saying, `Rise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters who are found present, lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.'

Cînd s'a crăpat de ziuă, îngerii au stăruit de Lot, zicînd:,, Scoală-te, ia-ţi nevasta şi cele două fete, cari se află aici, ca să nu pieri şi tu în nelegiuirea cetăţii.``

16 A nd he lingereth, and the men lay hold on his hand, and on the hand of his wife, and on the hand of his two daughters, through the mercy of Jehovah unto him, and they bring him out, and cause him to rest without the city.

Şi fiindcă Lot zăbovea, bărbaţii aceia l-au apucat de mînă, pe el, pe nevastă-sa şi pe cele două fete ale lui, căci Domnul voia să -l cruţe; l-au scos, şi l-au lăsat afară din cetate.

17 A nd it cometh to pass when he hath brought them out without, that he saith, `Escape for thy life; look not expectingly behind thee, nor stand thou in all the circuit; to the mountain escape, lest thou be consumed.'

După ce i-au scos afară, unul din ei a zis:,, Scapă-ţi viaţa; să nu te uiţi înapoi, şi să nu te opreşti în vreun loc din Cîmpie: scapă la munte, ca să nu pieri.``

18 A nd Lot saith unto them, `Not, I pray thee, my lord;

Lot le -a zis:,, O! nu, Doamne!

19 l o, I pray thee, thy servant hath found grace in thine eyes, and thou dost make great thy kindness which thou hast done with me by saving my life, and I am unable to escape to the mountain, lest the evil cleave me, and I have died;

Iată că am căpătat trecere înaintea Ta, şi ai arătat mare îndurare faţă de mine, păstrîndu-mi viaţa; dar nu pot să fug la munte, înainte ca să mă atingă prăpădul, şi voi peri.

20 l o, I pray thee, this city near to flee thither, and it little; let me escape, I pray thee, thither, (is it not little?) and my soul doth live.'

Iată, cetatea aceasta este destul de aproape ca să fug în ea, şi este mică. O! de aş putea să fug acolo,... este aşa de mică... şi să scap cu viaţa!``

21 A nd he saith unto him, `Lo, I have accepted thy face also for this thing, without overthrowing the city which thou hast spoken;

Şi El i -a zis:,, Iată că-ţi fac şi hatîrul acesta, şi nu voi nimici cetatea de care vorbeşti.

22 h aste, escape thither, for I am not able to do anything till thine entering thither;' therefore hath he calleth the name of the city Zoar.

Grăbeşte-te de fugi în ea, căci nu pot face nimic pînă nu vei ajunge acolo.`` Pentru aceea s'a pus cetăţii aceleia numele Ţoar.

23 T he sun hath gone out on the earth, and Lot hath entered into Zoar,

Răsărea soarele pe pămînt, cînd a intrat Lot în Ţoar.

24 a nd Jehovah hath rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah, from the heavens;

Atunci Domnul a făcut să ploaie peste Sodoma şi peste Gomora pucioasă şi foc dela Domnul din cer.

25 a nd He overthroweth these cities, and all the circuit, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which is shooting up from the ground.

A nimicit cu desăvîrşire cetăţile acelea, toată Cîmpia şi pe toţi locuitorii cetăţilor, şi tot ce creştea pe pămînt.

26 A nd his wife looketh expectingly from behind him, and she is -- a pillar of salt!

Nevasta lui Lot s'a uitat înapoi, şi s'a prefăcut într'un stîlp de sare.

27 A nd Abraham riseth early in the morning, unto the place where he hath stood the face of Jehovah;

Avraam s'a sculat a doua zi dis de dimineaţă, şi s'a dus la locul unde stătuse înaintea Domnului.

28 a nd he looketh on the face of Sodom and Gomorrah, and on all the face of the land of the circuit, and seeth, and lo, the smoke of the land went up as smoke of the furnace.

Şi -a îndreptat privirile spre Sodoma şi Gomora, şi spre toată Cîmpia; şi iată că a văzut ridicîndu-se de pe pămînt un fum, ca fumul unui cuptor.

29 A nd it cometh to pass, in God's destroying the cities of the circuit, that God remembereth Abraham, and sendeth Lot out of the midst of the overthrow in the overthrowing of the cities in which Lot dwelt.

Cînd a nimicit Dumnezeu cetăţile Cîmpiei, Şi -a adus aminte de Avraam; şi a scăpat pe Lot din mijlocul prăpădului, prin care a surpat din temelie cetăţile unde îşi aşezase Lot locuinţa.

30 A nd Lot goeth up out of Zoar, and dwelleth in the mountain, and his two daughters with him, for he hath been afraid of dwelling in Zoar, and he dwelleth in a cave, he and his two daughters.

Lot a ieşit din Ţoar şi a rămas pe munte, cu cele două fete ale lui, căci s'a temut să rămînă în Ţoar. A locuit într'o peşteră, cu cele două fete ale lui.

31 A nd the first-born saith unto the younger, `Our father old, and a man there is not in the earth to come in unto us, as the way of all the earth;

Cea mai mare a zis celei mai tinere:,, Tatăl nostru este bătrîn; şi nu mai este nici un bărbat în ţinutul acesta, ca să intre la noi, după obiceiul tuturor ţărilor.

32 c ome, we cause our father to drink wine, and lie with him, and preserve from our father -- a seed.'

Vino, să punem pe tatăl nostru să bea vin, şi să ne culcăm cu el, ca să ne păstrăm sămînţa prin tatăl nostru.``

33 A nd they cause their father to drink wine on that night; and the first-born goeth in, and lieth with her father, and he hath not known in her lying down, or in her rising up.

Au făcut dar pe tatăl lor de a băut vin în noaptea aceea; şi cea mai mare s'a dus şi s'a culcat cu tatăl ei. El n'a băgat de seamă nici cînd s'a culcat ea, nici cînd s'a sculat.

34 A nd it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the first-born saith unto the younger, `Lo, I have lain yesterday-night with my father: we cause him to drink wine also to-night, and go thou in, lie with him, and we preserve from our father -- a seed.'

A doua zi, cea mai mare a zis celei mai tinere:,, Iată, eu m'am culcat în noaptea trecută cu tatăl meu; haidem să -i dăm să bea vin şi în noaptea aceasta, şi du-te de te culcă şi tu cu el, ca să ne păstrăm sămînţa prin tatăl nostru.``

35 A nd they cause their father to drink wine on that night also, and the younger riseth and lieth with him, and he hath not known in her lying down, or in her rising up.

Au dat tatălui lor de a băut vin şi în noaptea aceea; apoi cea mai tînără s'a dus şi s'a culcat cu el. El n'a băgat de seamă nici cînd s'a culcat ea, nici cînd s'a sculat.

36 A nd the two daughters of Lot conceive from their father,

Cele două fete ale lui Lot au rămas astfel însărcinate de tatăl lor.

37 a nd the first-born beareth a son, and calleth his name Moab; he father of Moab unto this day;

Cea mai mare a născut un fiu, căruia i -a pus numele Moab; el este tatăl Moabiţilor din ziua de azi.

38 a s to the younger, she also hath born a son, and calleth his name Ben-Ammi: he father of the Beni-Ammon unto this day.

Cea mai tînără a născut şi ea un fiu, căruia i -a pus numele Ben-Ammi: el este tatăl Amoniţilor din ziua de azi.
