1 A nd Samuel saith unto all Israel, `Lo, I have hearkened to your voice, to all that ye said to me, and I cause to reign over you a king,

Samuel a zis întregului Israel:,, Iată că v'am ascultat glasul în tot ce mi-aţi zis, şi am pus un împărat peste voi.

2 a nd now, lo, the king is walking habitually before you, and I have become aged and gray-headed, and my sons, lo, they with you, and I have walked habitually before you from my youth till this day.

De acum, iată împăratul care va merge înaintea voastră. Cît despre mine, eu sînt bătrîn, am albit, aşa că fiii mei sînt cu voi; am umblat înaintea voastră, din tinereţă pînă în ziua de azi.

3 ` Lo, here I; testify against me, over-against Jehovah, and over-against His anointed; whose ox have I taken, and whose ass have I taken, and whom have I oppressed; whom have I bruised, and of whose hand have I taken a ransom, and hide mine eyes with it? -- and I restore to you.'

Iată-mă! Mărturisiţi împotriva mea, în faţa Domnului şi în faţa unsului Lui: Cui i-am luat boul, sau cui i-am luat măgarul? Pe cine am apăsat, şi pe cine am năpăstuit? De la cine am luat mită ca să închid ochii... asupra lui? Mărturisiţi, şi vă voi da înapoi.``

4 A nd they say, `Thou hast not oppressed us, nor hast thou crushed us, nor hast thou taken from the hand of any one anything.'

Ei au răspuns:,, Nu ne-ai apăsat, nu ne-ai năpăstuit, şi nici n'ai primit nimic din mîna nimănui``.

5 A nd he saith unto them, `A witness Jehovah against you: and a witness His anointed this day, that ye have not found anything in my hand;' and they say, `A witness.'

El le -a mai zis:,, Domnul este martor împotriva voastră, şi unsul Lui este martor, în ziua aceasta, că n'aţi găsit nimic în mînile mele``. Şi ei au răspuns:,, Sînt martori!``

6 A nd Samuel saith unto the people, `Jehovah -- He who made Moses and Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt!

Atunci Samuel a zis poporului:,, Domnul a pus pe Moise şi pe Aaron, şi a scos pe părinţii voştri din Egipt.

7 a nd, now, station yourselves, and I judge you before Jehovah, with all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which He did with you, and with your fathers.

Acum, înfăţişaţi-vă, ca să vă judec înaintea Domnului pentru toate binefacerile pe cari vi le -a făcut Domnul, vouă şi părinţilor voştri.

8 ` When Jacob hath come in to Egypt, and your fathers cry unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sendeth Moses and Aaron, and they bring out your fathers from Egypt, and cause them to dwell in this place,

Dupăce a venit Iacov în Egipt, părinţii voştri au strigat către Domnul, şi Domnul a trimes... pe Moise şi pe Aaron, cari au scos pe părinţii voştri din Egipt şi i-au adus să locuiască în locul acesta.

9 a nd they forget Jehovah their God, and He selleth them into the hand of Sisera, head of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fight against them,

Dar ei au uitat pe Domnul Dumnezeul lor; şi El i -a vîndut în mînile lui Sisera, căpetenia oştirii Haţorului, în mînile Filistenilor..., şi în mînile împăratului Moabului......, cari au început lupta împotriva lor.

10 a nd they cry unto Jehovah, and say, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and serve the Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and now, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we serve Thee.

Au strigat iarăş către Domnul, şi au zis:, Am păcătuit, căci am părăsit pe Domnul, şi am slujit Baalilor şi Astarteelor; izbăveşte-ne... acum din mîna vrăjmaşilor noştri, şi-Ţi vom sluji.``

11 ` And Jehovah sendeth Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivereth you out of the hand of your enemies round about, and ye dwell confidently.

Şi Domnul a trimes pe Ierubaal, şi pe Barac şi pe Iefta, şi pe Samuel..., şi v'a izbăvit din mîna vrăjmaşilor voştri cari vă înconjurau, şi aţi locuit în linişte.

12 ` And ye see that Nahash king of the Bene-Ammon hath come against you, and ye say to me, Nay, but a king doth reign over us; and Jehovah your God your king!

Apoi, cînd aţi văzut că Nahaş, împăratul fiilor lui Amon, mergea împotriva voastră, mi-aţi zis:, Nu!` ci un împărat să domnească peste noi``.,,Şi totuş Domnul..., Dumnezeul vostru, era Împăratul vostru.

13 A nd, now, lo, the king whom ye have chosen -- whom ye have asked! and lo, Jehovah hath placed over you a king.

Iată dar împăratul pe care l-aţi ales, şi pe care l-aţi cerut; iată că Domnul... a pus un împărat peste voi.

14 ` If ye fear Jehovah, and have served Him, and hearkened to His voice, then ye do not provoke the mouth of Jehovah, and ye have been -- both ye and the king who hath reigned over you -- after Jehovah your God.

Dacă vă veţi teme de Domnul, dacă -I veţi sluji, dacă veţi asculta de glasul Lui, şi dacă nu vă veţi împotrivi cuvîntului Domnului, vă veţi alipi de Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, atît voi cît şi împăratul care domneşte peste voi.

15 ` And if ye do not hearken to the voice of Jehovah -- then ye have provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and the hand of Jehovah hath been against you, and against your fathers.

Dar dacă nu veţi asculta de glasul Domnului, şi vă veţi împotrivi cuvîntului Domnului, mîna Domnului va fi împotriva voastră, cum a fost împotriva părinţilor voştri.

16 ` Also now, station yourselves and see this great thing which Jehovah is doing before your eyes;

Acum mai aşteptaţi aici, ca să vedeţi minunea pe care o va face Domnul subt ochii voştri.

17 i s it not wheat-harvest to-day? I call unto Jehovah, and He doth give voices and rain; and know ye and see that your evil is great which ye have done in the eyes of Jehovah, to ask for you a king.'

Nu sîntem noi la seceratul grînelor? Voi striga către Domnul, şi va trimete tunete şi ploaie. Să ştiţi atunci şi să vedeţi cît de rău... aţi făcut înaintea Domnului cînd aţi cerut un împărat pentru voi``.

18 A nd Samuel calleth unto Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth voices and rain, on that day, and all the people greatly fear Jehovah and Samuel;

Samuel a strigat către Domnul, şi Domnul a trimes chiar în ziua aceea tunete şi ploaie. Tot poporul a avut o mare frică de Domnul şi de Samuel.

19 a nd all the people say unto Samuel, `Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, and we do not die, for we have added to all our sins evil to ask for us a king.'

Şi tot poporul a zis lui Samuel:,, Roagă-te Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, pentru robii tăi, ca să nu murim; căci la toate păcatele noastre am mai adăugat şi pe acela de a cere un împărat pentru noi``.

20 A nd Samuel saith unto the people, `Fear not; ye have done all this evil; only, turn not aside from after Jehovah -- and ye have served Jehovah with all your heart,

Samuel a zis poporului:,, Nu vă temeţi! Aţi făcut tot răul acesta; dar nu vă abateţi dela Domnul, şi slujiţi Domnului din toată inima voastră.

21 a nd ye do not turn aside after the vain things which do not profit nor deliver, for they vain,

Nu vă abateţi dela El; altfel, aţi merge după lucruri de nimic, cari n'aduc nici folos nici izbăvire, pentrucă sînt lucruri de nimic.

22 f or Jehovah doth not leave His people, on account of His great name; for Jehovah hath been pleased to make you to Him for a people.

Domnul nu va părăsi pe poporul Lui, din pricina Numelui Lui celui mare, căci Domnul a hotărît... să facă din voi poporul Lui.

23 ` I, also, far be it from me to sin against Jehovah, by ceasing to pray for you, and I have directed you in the good and upright way;

Departe iarăş de mine să păcătuiesc împotriva Domnului, încetînd să mă rog pentru voi! Vă voi învăţa calea... cea bună şi cea dreaptă.

24 o nly, fear ye Jehovah, and ye have served Him in truth with all your heart, for see that which He hath made great with you;

Temeţi-vă numai de Domnul, şi slujiţi -I cu credincioşie din toată inima voastră; căci vedeţi ce putere desfăşură... El printre voi.

25 a nd if ye really do evil, both ye and your king are consumed.'

Dar dacă veţi face răul, veţi peri, voi şi împăratul vostru``.
