1 A nd Rehoboam goeth to Shechem, for to Shechem hath all Israel come to make him king.

Roboam s'a dus la Sihem, căci tot Israelul venise la Sihem să -l facă împărat.

2 A nd it cometh to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat's hearing (and he yet in Egypt where he hath fled from the presence of Solomon the king, and Jeroboam dwelleth in Egypt),

Cînd a auzit lucrul acesta Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, era tot în Egipt, unde fugise de împăratul Solomon, şi în Egipt locuia.

3 t hat they send and call for him; and they come -- Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel -- and speak unto Rehoboam, saying,

Au trimes să -l cheme. Atunci Ieroboam, şi toată adunarea lui Israel au venit la Roboam şi i-au vorbit aşa:

4 ` Thy father made hard our yoke, and thou, now, make light of the hard service of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we serve thee.'

Tatăl tău ne -a îngreuiat jugul; acum tu uşurează această aspră robie şi jugul greu pe care l -a pus peste noi tatăl tău. Şi îţi vom sluji.``

5 A nd he saith unto them, `Go -- yet three days, and come back unto me;' and the people go.

El le -a zis:,, Duceţi-vă, şi întoarceţi-vă la mine peste trei zile.`` Şi poporul a plecat.

6 A nd king Rehoboam consulteth with the elders who have been standing in the presence of Solomon his father, in his being alive, saying, `How are ye counselling to answer this people?'

Împăratul Roboam s'a sfătuit cu bătrînii cari fuseseră pe lîngă tatăl său Solomon, în timpul vieţii lui, şi a zis:,, Ce mă sfătuiţi să răspund poporului acestuia?``

7 A nd they speak unto him, saying, `If, to-day, thou art servant to this people, and hast served them, and answered them, and spoken unto them good words, then they have been to thee servants all the days.'

Şi iată ce i-au zis ei:,, Dacă vei îndatora astăzi pe poporul acesta, dacă le faci ce cer, şi dacă le vei răspunde cu vorbe binevoitoare, îţi vor sluji pe vecie.``

8 A nd he forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him, and consulteth with the lads who have grown up with him, who are standing before him;

Dar Roboam a lăsat sfatul pe care i -l dădeau bătrînii, şi s'a sfătuit cu tinerii cari crescuseră cu el şi cari erau împrejurul lui.

9 a nd he saith unto them, `What are ye counselling, and we answer this people, who have spoken unto me, saying, Lighten of the yoke that thy father put upon us?'

El a zis:,, Ce mă sfatuiţi să răspund poporului acestuia, care-mi vorbeşte aşa:, Uşurează-ne jugul pe care l -a pus peste noi tatăl tău?``

10 A nd they speak unto him -- the lads who had grown up with him -- saying, `Thus dost thou say to this people who have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou, make light upon us; thus dost thou speak unto them, My little is thicker than the loins of my father;

Şi iată ce i-au zis tinerii cari crescuseră cu el:,, Să spui aşa poporului acestuia care ţi -a vorbit astfel:, Tatăl tău ne -a îngreuiat jugul, tu uşurează-ni -l!` Să le vorbeşti aşa:, Degetul meu cel mic va fi mai gros decît coapsele tatălui meu.

11 a nd now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- I chastise you with scorpions.'

Acum, tatăl meu a pus peste voi un jug greu, dar eu vi -l voi face şi mai greu; tatăl meu v'a bătut cu bice, dar eu vă voi bate cu scorpioane.``

12 A nd they come -- Jeroboam and all the people -- unto Rehoboam, on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, `Come back unto me on the third day.'

Ieroboam şi tot poporul au venit la Roboam a treia zi, după cum zisese împăratul:,,Întoarceţi-vă la mine peste trei zile!``

13 A nd the king answereth the people sharply, and forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him,

Împăratul a răspuns aspru poporului. A lăsat sfatul pe care i -l dăduseră bătrînii,

14 a nd speaketh unto them, according to the counsel of the lads, saying, `My father made your yoke heavy, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- I chastise you with scorpions;'

şi le -a vorbit astfel, după sfatul tinerilor:,, Tatăl meu v'a îngreuiat jugul, dar eu vi -l voi face şi mai greu; tatăl meu v'a bătut cu bice, dar eu vă voi bate cu scorpioane.``

15 a nd the king hearkened not unto the people, for the revolution was from Jehovah, in order to establish His word that Jehovah spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat.

Astfel împăratul n'a ascultat pe popor; căci lucrul acesta a fost cîrmuit de Domnul, în vederea împlinirii cuvîntului, pe care -l spusese Domnul prin Ahia din Silo lui Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat.

16 A nd all Israel see that the king hath not hearkened unto them, and the people send the king back word, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in the son of Jesse; to thy tents, O Israel; now see thy house, O David!' and Israel goeth to its tents.

Cînd a văzut tot Israelul că împăratul nu -l ascultă, poporul a răspuns împăratului:,, Ce parte avem noi cu David? Noi n'avem moştenire cu fiul lui Isai! La corturile tale, Israele! Acum vezi-ţi de casă, Davide!`` Şi Israel s'a dus în corturile lui.

17 A s to the sons of Israel, those dwelling in the cities of Judah -- over them reign doth Rehoboam.

Copiii lui Israel cari locuiau în cetăţile lui Iuda, au fost singurii peste cari a domnit Roboam.

18 A nd king Rehoboam sendeth Adoram who over the tribute, and all Israel cast at him stones, and he dieth; and king Rehoboam hath strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;

Atunci împăratul Roboam a trimes la ei pe Adoram, care era mai mare peste biruri. Dar Adoram a fost ucis cu pietre de tot Israelul, şi a murit. Şi împăratul Roboam s'a grăbit să se suie într'un car, ca să fugă la Ierusalim.

19 a nd Israel transgresseth against the house of David unto this day.

Astfel s'a deslipit Israel de casa lui David pînă în ziua de azi.

20 A nd it cometh to pass, at all Israel's hearing that Jeroboam hath returned, that they send and call him unto the company, and cause him to reign over all Israel; none hath been after the house of David save the tribe of Judah alone.

Tot Israelul, auzind că Ieroboam s'a întors, au trimes să -l cheme în adunare, şi l-au făcut împărat peste tot Israelul. Seminţia lui Iuda a fost singura care a mers după casa lui David.

21 A nd Rehoboam cometh to Jerusalem, and assembleth all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to fight with the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon.

Roboam ajungînd la Ierusalim, a strîns toată casa lui Iuda şi seminţia lui Beniamin, o sută optzeci de mii de oameni aleşi, buni pentru război, ca să lupte împotriva casei lui Israel şi s'o aducă înapoi subt stăpînirea lui Roboam, fiul lui Solomon.

22 A nd the word of God is unto Shemaiah a man of God, saying,

Dar cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu a vorbit astfel lui Şemaia, omul lui Dumnezeu:

23 ` Speak unto Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and the rest of the people, saying,

Vorbeşte lui Roboam, fiul lui Solomon, împăratul lui Iuda, şi întregei case a lui Iuda şi a lui Beniamin, şi celuilalt popor, şi spune-le:

24 T hus said Jehovah, Ye do not go up nor fight with your brethren the sons of Israel; turn back each to his house, for from Me hath this thing been;' and they hear the word of Jehovah, and turn back to go according to the word of Jehovah.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul:, Nu vă suiţi, şi nu faceţi război împotriva fraţilor voştri, copiii lui Israel! Fiecare din voi să se întoarcă acasă, căci de la Mine s'a întîmplat lucrul acesta.`` Ei au ascultat de cuvîntul Domnului, şi s'au întors acasă, după cuvîntul Domnului.

25 A nd Jeroboam buildeth Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and dwelleth in it, and goeth out thence, and buildeth Penuel;

Ieroboam a zidit Sihemul pe muntele lui Efraim, şi a locuit acolo; apoi a ieşit de acolo, şi a zidit Penuel.

26 a nd Jeroboam saith in his heart, `Now doth the kingdom turn back to the house of David --

Ieroboam a zis în inima sa:,,Împărăţia s'ar putea acum să se întoarcă la casa lui David.

27 i f this people go up to make sacrifices in the house of Jehovah in Jerusalem, then hath the heart of this people turned back unto their lord, unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they have slain me, and turned back unto Rehoboam king of Judah.'

Dacă poporul acesta se va sui la Ierusalim să aducă jertfe în Casa Domnului, inima poporului acestuia se va întoarce la domnul său, la Roboam, împăratul lui Iuda, şi mă vor omorî şi se vor întoarce la Roboam, împăratul lui Iuda.``

28 A nd the king taketh counsel, and maketh two calves of gold, and saith unto them, `Enough to you of going up to Jerusalem; lo, thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

După ce s'a sfătuit, împăratul a făcut doi viţei de aur, şi a zis poporului:,, Destul v'aţi suit la Ierusalim; Israele! Iată Dumnezeul tău care te -a scos din ţara Egiptului.``

29 A nd he setteth the one in Beth-El, and the other he hath put in Dan,

A aşezat unul din aceşti viţei la Betel, iar pe celalt l -a pus în Dan.

30 a nd this thing becometh a sin, and the people go before the one -- unto Dan.

Şi fapta aceasta a fost un prilej de păcătuire. Poporul se ducea să se închine înaintea unuia din viţei pînă la Dan.

31 A nd he maketh the house of high places, and maketh priests of the extremities of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi;

Ieroboam a făcut o casă de înălţimi şi a pus preoţi luaţi din tot poporul, cari nu făceau parte din fiii lui Levi.

32 a nd Jeroboam maketh a festival in the eighth month, in the fifteenth day of the month, like the festival that in Judah, and he offereth on the altar -- so did he in Beth-El -- to sacrifice to the calves which he made, and he hath appointed in Beth-El the priests of the high places that he made.

A rînduit o sărbătoare în luna a opta, în ziua a cincisprezecea a lunii, ca sărbătoarea care se prăznuia în Iuda, şi a adus jertfe pe altar. Iată ce a făcut la Betel, ca să se aducă jertfe viţeilor pe cari -i făcuse el. A pus în slujbă la Betel pe preoţii înălţimilor ridicate de el.

33 A nd he offereth up on the altar that he made in Beth-El, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month that he devised of his own heart, and he maketh a festival to the sons of Israel, and offereth on the altar -- to make perfume.

Şi a jertfit pe altarul pe care -l făcuse la Betel, în ziua a cincisprezecea a lunii a opta, lună pe care o alesese după bunul lui plac. A hotărît -o ca sărbătoare pentru copiii lui Israel, şi s'a suit la altar să ardă tămîie.
