1 H ear this word, ye kine of Bashan, Who in the mountain of Samaria, Who are oppressing the poor, Who are bruising the needy, Who are saying to their lords: `Bring in, and we do drink.'

Ascultaţi cuvîntul acesta, juncane din Basan, de pe muntele Samariei, voi cari asupriţi pe cei sărmani, zdrobiţi pe cei lipsiţi, şi ziceţi bărbaţilor voştri:, Daţi-ne să bem!``

2 S worn hath the Lord Jehovah by His holiness, That lo, days are coming upon you, And he hath taken you away with hooks, And your posterity with fish-hooks.

Domnul Dumnezeu a jurat pe sfinţenia Lui, şi a zis:,, Iată, vin zile pentru voi, cînd vă vor prinde cu cîrligele, şi rămăşiţa voastră cu undiţi de pescari;

3 A nd breaches ye go forth, A woman over-against her, And ye have cast down the high place, An affirmation of Jehovah.

veţi ieşi prin spărturi, fiecare drept înainte, şi veţi fi lepădate în Harmon, zice Domnul.``

4 E nter ye Beth-El, and transgress, At Gilgal multiply transgression, And bring in every morning your sacrifices, Every third year your tithes.

Duceţi-vă numai la Betel, şi păcătuiţi! Duceţi-vă la Ghilgal, şi păcătuiţi şi mai mult! Aduceţi-vă jertfele în fiecare dimineaţă, şi zeciuielile la fiecare trei zile!

5 A nd perfume with leaven a thank-offering, And proclaim willing gifts, sound ye! For so ye have loved, O sons of Israel, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

Faceţi să fumege jertfe de mulţămire făcute cu aluat! Trîmbiţaţi-vă, vestiţi-vă darurile de mîncare de bună voie! Căci aşa vă place, copii ai lui Israel, zice Domnul Dumnezeu.``

6 A nd I also -- I have given to you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, And lack of bread in all your places, And ye have not turned back unto Me, an affirmation of Jehovah.

Şi Eu, de partea Mea, v'am trimes foametea în toate cetăţile voastre, şi lipsa de pîne în toate locuinţele voastre. Cu toate acestea tot nu v'aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.`` -

7 A nd I also -- I have withheld from you the rain. While yet three months to harvest, And I have sent rain on one city, And on another city I do not send rain, One portion is rained on, And the portion on which it raineth not withereth.

N'am vrut să vă dau nici ploaie, cînd mai erau încă trei luni pînă la secerat; am dat ploaie peste o cetate, dar n'am dat ploaie peste o altă cetate; într'un ogor a plouat, şi altul, în care n'a plouat, s'a uscat.

8 A nd wandered have two or three cities, Unto the same city to drink water, And they are not satisfied, And ye have not turned back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Două, trei cetăţi s'au dus la alta ca să bea apă, şi tot nu şi-au potolit setea. Cu toate acestea, tot nu v'aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.`` -

9 I have smitten you with blasting and with mildew, The abundance of your gardens and of your vineyards, And of your figs, and of your olives, Eat doth the palmer-worm, And ye have not turned back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

V'am lovit cu rugină în grîu şi cu tăciune; grădinile voastre cele multe, viile, smochinii şi măslinii voştri i-au mîncat deseori lăcustele. Cu toate acestea, tot nu v'aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.``

10 I have sent among you pestilence by the way of Egypt, I have slain by sword your choice ones, With your captive horses, And I cause the stink of your camps to come up -- even into your nostrils, And ye have not turned back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Am trimes în voi ciuma, ca în Egipt; v'am ucis tinerii cu sabia, şi am lăsat să vi se ia caii, am făcut să vi se suie în nări duhoarea taberii voastre. Şi cu toate acestea, tot nu v'aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.`` -

11 I have overturned among you, Like the overturn by God of Sodom and Gomorrah, And ye are as a brand delivered from a burning, And ye have not turned back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

V'am nimicit ca pe Sodoma şi Gomora, pe cari le -a nimicit Dumnezeu; şi aţi fost ca un tăciune scos din foc. Cu toate acestea, tot nu v'aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul...

12 T herefore, thus I do to thee, O Israel, at last, Because this I do to thee, Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

De aceea îţi voi face astfel, Israele, -şi fiindcă îţi voi face astfel, pregăteşte-te să întîlneşti pe Dumnezeul tău, Israele!

13 F or, lo, the former of mountains, and creator of wind, And the declarer to man what His thought, He is making dawn obscurity, And is treading on high places of earth, Jehovah, God of Hosts, His name!

Căci iată că El a întocmit munţii, a făcut vîntul, şi spune omului pînă şi gîndurile lui. El preface zorile în întunerec, şi umblă pe înălţimile pămîntului: Domnul, Dumnezeul oştirilor, este Numele Lui.
