1 ` Thou dost not sacrifice to Jehovah thy God ox or sheep in which there is a blemish -- any evil thing; for it the abomination of Jehovah thy God.

Să n'aduci jertfă Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, vreun bou, sau vreun miel care să aibă vreun cusur sau vreo meteahnă trupească; căci ar fi o urîciune înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău.

2 ` When there is found in thy midst, in one of thy cities which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee, a man or a woman who doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah thy God by transgressing His covenant,

Se va găsi poate în mijlocul tău, într'una din cetăţile pe cari ţi le dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, un bărbat sau o femeie care să facă ce este rău înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, şi care să calce legămîntul Lui;

3 a nd he doth go and serve other gods, and doth bow himself to them, and to the sun, or to the moon, or to any of the host of the heavens, which I have not commanded --

care să meargă după alţi dumnezei ca să le slujească şi să se închine înaintea lor, după soare, lună sau toată oştirea cerurilor, aşa cum eu n'am poruncit.

4 a nd it hath been declared to thee, and thou hast heard, and hast searched diligently, and lo, truth; the thing is established; this abomination hath been done in Israel --

De îndată ce vei lua cunoştinţă şi vei afla lucrul acesta, să faci cercetări amănunţite. Dacă lucrul este adevărat, dacă faptul este întemeiat, dacă urîciunea aceasta a fost săvîrşită în Israel,

5 ` Then thou hast brought out that man, or that woman, who hath done this evil thing, unto thy gates -- the man or the woman -- and thou hast stoned them with stones, and they have died.

atunci să aduci la porţile cetăţii tale pe bărbatul sau femeia care va fi vinovat de această faptă rea, şi să ucizi cu pietre sau să pedepseşti cu moartea pe bărbatul acela sau pe femeia aceea.

6 B y the mouth of two witnesses or of three witnesses is he who is dead put to death; he is not put to death by the mouth of one witness;

Cel vinovat de moarte să fie omorît pe mărturia a doi sau trei martori; să nu fie omorît pe mărturia unui singur martor.

7 t he hand of the witnesses is on him, in the first place, to put him to death, and the hand of all the people last; and thou hast put away the evil thing out of thy midst.

Întăi mîna martorilor să se ridice asupra lui ca să -l omoare, şi apoi mîna întregului popor. Să scoţi astfel răul din mijlocul tău.

8 ` When anything is too hard for thee for judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke -- matters of strife within thy gates -- then thou hast risen, and gone up unto the place on which Jehovah thy God doth fix,

Dacă ţi se va părea prea greu de judecat o pricină privitoare la un omor, la o neînţelegere, sau la o rănire, şi va da prilej la ceartă în lăuntrul cetăţii tale, să te scoli şi să te sui la locul pe care -l va alege Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

9 a nd hast come in unto the priests, the Levites, and unto the judge who is in those days, and hast inquired, and they have declared to thee the word of judgment,

Să te duci la preoţi, Leviţi, şi la cel ce va împlini atunci slujba de judecător; să -i întrebi, şi ei îţi vor spune hotărîrea legii.

10 a nd thou hast done according to the tenor of the word which they declare to thee ( of that place which Jehovah doth choose; and thou hast observed to do according to all that they direct thee.

Să faci cum îţi vor spune ei în locul pe care -l va alege Domnul, şi să ai grijă să faci cum te vor învăţa ei.

11 ` According to the tenor of the law which they direct thee, and according to the judgment which they say to thee thou dost do; thou dost not turn aside from the word which they declare to thee, right or left.

Să faci după legea pe care te vor învăţa şi după hotărîrea pe care o vor rosti ei, să nu te abaţi dela ce-ţi vor spune ei, nici la dreapta nici la stînga.

12 A nd the man who acteth with presumption, so as not to hearken unto the priest (who is standing to serve there Jehovah thy God), or unto the judge, even that man hath died, and thou hast put away the evil thing from Israel,

Omul care, din mîndrie, nu va asculta de preotul pus acolo ca să slujească Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, sau care nu va asculta de judecător, omul acela să fie pedepsit cu moartea. Să scoţi astfel răul din mijlocul lui Israel,

13 a nd all the people do hear and fear, and do not presume any more.

pentruca tot poporul să audă şi să se teamă, şi să nu se mai îngîmfe.

14 ` When thou comest in unto the land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee, and hast possessed it, and dwelt in it, and thou hast said, Let me set over me a king like all the nations which round about me, --

Dupăce vei intra în ţara pe care ţi -o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi o vei stăpîni, după ce-ţi vei aşeza locuinţa, şi vei zice:,, Vreau să pun peste mine un împărat, ca toate neamurile cari mă înconjoară,`` -

15 t hou dost certainly set over thee a king on whom Jehovah doth fix; from the midst of thy brethren thou dost set over thee a king; thou art not able to set over thee a stranger, who is not thy brother.

să pui peste tine ca împărat pe acela pe care -l va alege Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi anume să iei un împărat din mijlocul fraţilor tăi; nu vei putea să pui împărat pe un străin, care să nu fie fratele tău.

16 ` Only, he doth not multiply to himself horses, nor cause the people to turn back to Egypt, so as to multiply horses, seeing Jehovah hath said to you, Ye do not add to turn back in this way any more.

Dar să n'aibă mulţi cai, şi să nu întoarcă pe popor în Egipt ca să aibă mulţi cai; căci Domnul v'a zis:,, Să nu vă mai întoarceţi pe drumul acela.``

17 A nd he doth not multiply to himself wives, and his heart doth not turn aside, and silver and gold he doth not multiply to himself -- exceedingly.

Să n'aibă un mare număr de neveste, ca să nu i se abată inima; şi să nu strîngă mari grămezi de argint şi aur.

18 ` And it hath been, when he sitteth on the throne of his kingdom, that he hath written for himself the copy of this law, on a book, from before the priests the Levites,

Cînd se va aşeza pe scaunul de domnie al împărăţiei lui, să scrie pentru el, într'o carte, o copie a acestei legi, pe care s'o ia dela preoţii din neamul Leviţilor.

19 a nd it hath been with him, and he hath read in it all days of his life, so that he doth learn to fear Jehovah his God, to keep all the words of this law, and these statutes, to do them;

Va trebui s'o aibă cu el şi s'o citească în toate zilele vieţii lui, ca să înveţe să se teamă de Domnul, Dumnezeul lui, să păzească şi să împlinească toate cuvintele din legea aceasta şi toate poruncile acestea,

20 s o that his heart is not high above his brethren, and so as not to turn aside from the command, right or left, so that he prolongeth days over his kingdom, he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.

pentruca inima lui să nu se înalţe mai pe sus de fraţii lui, şi să nu se abată dela poruncile acestea nici la dreapta nici la stînga, şi să aibă astfel multe zile în împărăţia lui, el şi copiii lui, în mijlocul lui Israel.
