1 I n the twenty and third year of Joash son of Ahaziah king of Judah, hath Jehoahaz son of Jehu reigned over Israel, in Samaria -- seventeen years,

În al douăzeci şi treilea an al lui Ioas, fiul lui Ahazia, împăratul lui Iuda, a început să domnească peste Israel la Samaria Ioahaz, fiul lui Iehu. A domnit şaptesprezece ani.

2 a nd he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and goeth after the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin -- he turned not aside from it,

El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului; a săvîrşit aceleaş păcate ca Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, care făcuse pe Israel să păcătuiască, şi nu s'a abătut de la ele.

3 a nd the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He giveth them into the hand of Hazael king of Aram, and into the hand of Ben-Hadad son of Hazael, all the days.

Domnul S'a aprins de mînie împotriva lui Israel, şi i -a dat în mînile lui Hazael, împăratul Siriei, şi în mînile lui Ben-Hadad, fiul lui Hazael, tot timpul cît au trăit împăraţii aceştia.

4 A nd Jehoahaz appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah hearkeneth unto him, for He hath seen the oppression of Israel, for oppressed them hath the king of Aram, --

Ioahaz s'a rugat Domnului. Domnul l -a ascultat, căci a văzut apăsarea subt care ţinea împăratul Siriei pe Israel,

5 a nd Jehovah giveth to Israel a saviour, and they go out from under the hand of Aram, and the sons of Israel dwell in their tents as heretofore;

şi Domnul a dat un izbăvitor lui Israel. Copiii lui Israel au scăpat din mînile Sirienilor, şi au locuit în corturile lor ca mai nainte.

6 o nly, they have not turned aside from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, that he caused Israel to sin, therein they walked, and also, the shrine hath remained in Samaria, --

Dar nu s'au abătut dela păcatele casei lui Ieroboam, care făcuse pe Israel să păcătuiască; s'au dedat şi ei la ele, şi chiar idolul Astarteei sta încă în picioare la Samaria.

7 f or he left not to Jehoahaz of the people except fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Aram hath destroyed them, and maketh them as dust for threshing.

Din tot poporul lui Ioahaz Domnul nu -i lăsase decît cincizeci de călăreţi, zece cară, şi zece mii de pedestraşi; căci împăratul Siriei îi prăpădise şi -i făcuse ca pulberea pe care o calci în picioare.

8 A nd the rest of the matters of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Celelale fapte ale lui Ioahaz, tot ce a făcut el, şi isprăvile lui, nu sînt scrise oare în cartea Cronicilor împăraţilor lui Israel?

9 A nd Jehoahaz lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in Samaria, and reign doth Joash his son in his stead.

Ioahaz a adormit cu părinţii săi, şi l-au îngropat la Samaria. Şi, în locul lui, a domnit fiul său Ioas.

10 I n the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah reigned hath Jehoash son of Jehoahaz over Israel, in Samaria -- sixteen years,

În al treizeci şi şaptelea an al lui Ioas, împăratul lui Iuda, a început să domnească peste Israel la Samaria Ioas, fiul lui Ioahaz. A domnit şasesprezece ani.

11 a nd he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, he hath not turned aside from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin, therein he walked.

El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului; nu s'a abătut dela niciunul din păcatele lui Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, care făcuse pe Israel să păcătuiască, şi s'a dedat la ele ca şi el.

12 A nd the rest of the matters of Joash, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Ioas, tot ce a făcut el, isprăvile lui, şi războiul pe care l -a avut cu Amaţia, împăratul lui Iuda, nu sînt scrise oare în cartea Cronicilor împăraţilor lui Israel?

13 A nd Joash lieth with his fathers, and Jeroboam hath sat on his throne, and Joash is buried in Samaria, with the kings of Israel.

Ioas a adormit cu părinţii săi. Şi pe scaunul lui de domnie s'a suit Ieroboam. Ioas a fost îngropat la Samaria cu împăraţii lui Israel.

14 A nd Elisha hath been sick with his sickness in which he dieth, and come down unto him doth Joash king of Israel, and weepeth on his face, and saith, `My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and its horsemen.'

Elisei s'a îmbolnăvit de o boală de care a murit. Ioas, împăratul lui Israel, s'a pogorît la el, a plîns pe faţa lui, şi a zis:,, Părinte, părinte! Carul lui Israel şi călărimea lui!``

15 A nd Elisha saith to him, `Take bow and arrows:' and he taketh unto him bow and arrows.

Elisei i -a zis:,, Ia un arc şi săgeţi.`` Şi a luat un arc şi nişte săgeţi!

16 A nd he saith to the king of Israel, `Place thy hand on the bow;' and he placeth his hand, and Elisha putteth his hands on the hands of the king,

Apoi Elisei a zis împăratului lui Israel:,,Încordează arcul cu mîna ta.`` Şi dupăce l -a încordat cu mîna lui, Elisei şi -a pus mînile pe mînile împăratului,

17 a nd saith, `Open the window eastward;' and he openeth, and Elisha saith, `Shoot,' and he shooteth; and he saith, `An arrow of salvation to Jehovah, and an arrow of salvation against Aram, and thou hast smitten Aram, in Aphek, till consuming.'

şi a zis:,, Deschide fereastra din spre răsărit.`` Şi a deschis -o. Elisei a zis:,, Trage.`` Şi a tras. Elisei a zis:,, Aceasta este o săgeată de izbăvire din partea Domnului, o săgeată de izbăvire împotriva Sirienilor: vei bate pe Sirieni la Afec pînă îi vei nimici.``

18 A nd he saith, `Take the arrows,' and he taketh; and he saith to the king of Israel, `Smite to the earth;' and he smiteth three times, and stayeth.

Elisei a mai zis:,, Ia săgeţi.`` Şi a luat. Elisei a zis împăratului lui Israel:,, Loveşte în pămînt!`` Şi a lovit de trei ori; apoi s'a oprit.

19 A nd the man of God is wroth against him, and saith, `By smiting five or six times then thou hadst smitten Aram till consuming; and now, three times thou dost smite Aram.'

Omul lui Dumnezeu s'a mîniat pe el, şi a zis:,, Trebuia să loveşti de cinci sau şase ori: atunci ai fi bătut pe Sirieni pînă i-ai fi nimici, acum îi vei bate numai de trei ori.``

20 A nd Elisha dieth, and they bury him, and troops of Moab come in to the land, at the coming in of the year,

Elisei a murit, şi a fost îngropat. În anul următor, au intrat în ţară nişte cete de Moabiţi.

21 a nd it cometh to pass, they are burying a man, and lo, they have seen the troop, and cast the man into the grave of Elisha, and the man goeth and cometh against the bones of Elisha, and liveth, and riseth on his feet.

Şi, pe cînd îngropau un om, iată că au zărit una din aceste cete, şi au aruncat pe omul acela în mormîntul lui Elisei. Omul s'a atins de oasele lui Elisei, şi a înviat şi s'a sculat pe picioare.

22 A nd Hazael king of Aram hath oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz,

Hazael, împăratul Siriei, asuprise pe Israel tot timpul vieţii lui Ioahac.

23 a nd Jehovah doth favour them, and pity them, and turn unto them, for the sake of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and hath not been willing to destroy them, nor to cast them from His presence as yet.

Dar Domnul S'a îndurat de ei, şi a avut milă de ei, Şi -a întors Faţa spre ei din pricina legămîntului Său cu Avraam, Isaac şi Iacov, n'a vrut să -i nimicească, şi pînă acum nu i -a lepădat dela Faţa lui.

24 A nd Hazael king of Aram dieth, and reign doth Ben-Hadad his son in his stead,

Hazael, împăratul Siriei, a murit, şi, în locul lui, a domnit fiul său Ben-Hadad.

25 a nd Jehoash son of Jehoahaz turneth and taketh the cities out of the hand of Ben-Hadad son of Hazael that he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father in war; three times hath Joash smitten him, and he bringeth back the cities of Israel.

Ioas, fiul lui Ioahaz, a luat înapoi din mînile lui Ben-Hadad, fiul lui Hazael, cetăţile luate de Hazael dela Ioahaz, tatăl său, în timpul războiului. Ioas l -a bătut de trei ori, şi a luat înapoi cetăţile lui Israel.
