1 A nd lo, a man of God hath come from Judah, by the word of Jehovah, unto Beth-El, and Jeroboam is standing by the altar -- to make perfume;

Dar iată că un om al lui Dumnezeu a venit din Iuda la Betel, trimes de cuvîntul Domnului, tocmai pe cînd stătea Ieroboam la altar să ardă tămîie.

2 a nd he calleth against the altar, by the word of Jehovah, and saith, `Altar! altar! thus said Jehovah, Lo, a son is born to the house of David -- Josiah his name -- and he hath sacrificed on thee the priests of the high places who are making perfume on thee, and bones of man are burnt on thee.'

El a strigat împotriva altarului, după cuvîntul Domnului, şi a zis:,, Altarule! Altarule! Aşa vorbeşte Domnul:, Iată că se va naşte un fiu casei lui David; numele lui va fi Iosia; el va junghia pe tine, pe preoţii înălţimilor, cari ard tămîie pe tine, şi pe tine se vor arde osăminte omeneşti!``

3 A nd he hath given on that day a sign, saying, `This the sign that Jehovah hath spoken, Lo, the altar is rent, and the ashes poured forth that on it.'

Şi în aceeaş zi a dat un semn, zicînd:,, Acesta este semnul care arată că Domnul a vorbit: Altarul se va despica, şi cenuşa de pe el se va vărsa.``

4 A nd it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the word of the man of God that he calleth against the altar in Beth-El, that Jeroboam putteth forth his hand from off the altar, saying, `Catch him;' and his hand is dried up that he hath put forth against him, and he is not able to bring it back unto him,

Cînd a auzit împăratul cuvîntul pe care -l strigase omul lui Dumnezeu împotriva altarului din Betel, a întins mîna de pe altar, zicînd:,, Prindeţi -l!`` Şi mîna, pe care o întinsese Ieroboam împotriva lui, s'a uscat, şi n'a putut s'o întoarcă înapoi.

5 a nd the altar is rent, and the ashes poured forth from the altar, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of Jehovah.

Altarul s'a despicat, şi cenuşa de pe el s'a vărsat, după semnul pe care -l dăduse omul lui Dumnezeu, potrivit cu cuvîntul Domnului.

6 A nd the king answereth and saith unto the man of God, `Appease, I pray thee, the face of Jehovah thy God, and pray for me, and my hand doth come back unto me;' and the man of God appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and the hand of the king cometh back unto him, and it is as at the beginning.

Atunci împăratul a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis omului lui Dumnezeu:,, Roagă-te Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, şi cere -I să-mi pot trage mîna înapoi.`` Omul lui Dumnezeu s'a rugat Domnului şi împăratul a putut să-şi tragă înapoi mîna, care s'a făcut sănătoasă ca mai înainte.

7 A nd the king speaketh unto the man of God, `Come in with me to the house, and refresh thyself, and I give to thee a gift.'

Împăratul a zis omului lui Dumnezeu:,, Intră cu mine în casă, să iei ceva de mîncare, şi-ţi voi da un dar.``

8 A nd the man of God saith unto the king, `If thou dost give to me the half of thine house, I do not go in with thee, nor do I eat bread, nor do I drink water, in this place;

Omul lui Dumnezeu a zis împăratului: jumătate din casa ta să-mi dai, şi n'aş intra cu tine. Nu voi mînca pîne, şi nu voi bea apă în locul acesta;

9 f or so He commanded me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water, nor turn back in the way that thou hast come.'

căci iată ce poruncă mi -a fost dată; prin cuvîntul Domnului:,, Să nu mănînci pîne nici să bei apă, şi nici să nu te întorci pe drumul pe care te vei duce.``

10 A nd he goeth on in another way, and hath not turned back in the way in which he came in unto Beth-El.

El a plecat pe un alt drum, şi nu s'a întors pe drumul pe care venise la Betel.

11 A nd a certain aged prophet is dwelling in Beth-El, and his son cometh and recounteth to him all the deed that the man of God hath done to-day in Beth-El, the words that he hath spoken unto the king, -- yea, they recount them to their father.

În Betel locuia un prooroc bătrîn. Fiii săi au venit şi i-au istorisit toate lucrurile pe care le făcuse omul lui Dumnezeu la Betel în ziua aceea, precum şi cuvintele pe cari le spusese împăratului. După ce au istorisit tatălui lor toate,

12 A nd their father saith unto them, `Where this -- the way he hath gone?' and his sons see the way that the man of God hath gone who came from Judah.

el le -a zis:,, Pe ce drum a plecat?`` Fiii săi văzuseră pe ce drum plecase omul lui Dumnezeu, care venise din Iuda.

13 A nd he saith unto his sons, `Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle for him the ass, and he rideth on it,

Şi a zis fiilor săi:,, Puneţi-mi şaua pe măgar.`` I-au pus şaua pe măgar, şi a încălecat pe el.

14 a nd goeth after the man of God, and findeth him sitting under the oak, and saith unto him, `Art thou the man of God who hast come from Judah?' and he saith, `I.'

S'a dus după omul lui Dumnezeu, şi l -a găsit stînd supt un stejar. Şi i -a zis:,, Tu eşti omul lui Dumnezeu care a venit din Iuda?`` El a răspuns:,, Eu sînt.``

15 A nd he saith unto him, `Come with me to the house, and eat bread.'

Atunci el i -a zis:,, Vino cu mine acasă, şi să iei ceva să mănînci.``

16 A nd he saith, `I am not able to turn back with thee, and to go in with thee, nor do I eat bread or drink with thee water in this place,

Dar el a răspuns:,, Nu pot nici să mă întorc cu tine, nici să intru la tine. Nu voi mînca pîne şi nici nu voi bea apă cu tine în locul acesta;

17 f or a word unto me by the word of Jehovah, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink there water, thou dost not turn back to go in the way in which thou camest.'

căci mi s'a spus, prin cuvîntul Domnului:, Să nu mănînci pîne nici să nu bei apă acolo, şi nici să nu te întorci pe drumul pe care te vei duce.``

18 A nd he saith to him, `I also a prophet like thee, and a messenger spake unto me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Bring him back with thee unto thy house, and he doth eat bread and drink water;' -- he hath lied to him.

Şi el i -a zis:,,Şi eu sînt prooroc ca tine; şi un înger mi -a vorbit din partea Domnului, şi mi -a zis:, Adu -l acasă cu tine ca să mănînce pîne şi să bea apă.`` Îl minţea.

19 A nd he turneth back with him, and eateth bread in his house, and drinketh water.

Omul lui Dumnezeu s'a întors cu el, şi a mîncat pîne şi a băut apă în casa lui.

20 A nd it cometh to pass -- they are sitting at the table -- and a word of Jehovah is unto the prophet who brought him back,

Pe cînd stăteau ei la masă, cuvîntul Domnului a vorbit proorocului, care -l adusese înapoi.

21 a nd he calleth unto the man of God who came from Judah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, Because that thou hast provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and hast not kept the command that Jehovah thy God charged thee,

Şi el a strigat omului lui Dumnezeu care venise din Iuda:,, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul:, Pentrucă n'ai ascultat porunca Domnului, şi n'ai păzit porunca pe care ţi -o dăduse Domnul, Dumnezeul tău;

22 a nd turnest back and dost eat bread and drink water in the place of which He said unto thee, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water -- thy carcase cometh not in unto the burying-place of thy fathers.'

pentrucă te-ai întors, şi ai mîncat pîne şi ai băut apă, în locul despre care îţi spusese:, Să nu mănînci pîne şi să nu bei apă acolo`, -trupul tău mort nu va intra în mormîntul părinţilor tăi.``

23 A nd it cometh to pass, after his eating bread, and after his drinking, that he saddleth for him the ass, for the prophet whom he had brought back,

Şi, dupăce a mîncat pîne şi a băut apă proorocul pe care -l întorsese, i -a pus şaua pe măgar.

24 a nd he goeth, and a lion findeth him in the way, and putteth him to death, and his carcase is cast in the way, and the ass is standing near it, and the lion is standing near the carcase.

Omul lui Dumnezeu a plecat; şi a fost întîlnit pe drum de un leu care l -a omorît. Trupul lui mort era întins pe drum; măgarul a rămas lîngă el, şi leul stătea şi el lîngă trup.

25 A nd lo, men are passing by, and see the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing near the carcase, and they come and speak in the city in which the old prophet is dwelling.

Şi nişte oameni cari treceau pe acolo, au văzut trupul întins în drum şi leul stînd lîngă trup; şi au spus lucrul acesta, la venirea lor în cetatea în care locuia proorocul cel bătrîn.

26 A nd the prophet who brought him back out of the way heareth and saith, `It the man of God who provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth him to the lion, and it destroyeth him, and putteth him to death, according to the word of Jehovah that he spake to him.'

Cînd a auzit lucrul acesta proorocul care întorsese depe drum pe omul lui Dumnezeu, a zis:,, Este omul lui Dumnezeu, care n'a ascultat de porunca Domnului, şi Domnul l -a dat în ghearele leului care l -a sfîrşiat şi l -a omorît, după cuvîntul pe care i -l spusese Domnul.``

27 A nd he speaketh unto his sons saying, `Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle.

Apoi, îndreptîndu-se către fiii săi, a zis:,, Puneţi-mi şaua pe măgar.`` Au pus şaua pe măgar,

28 A nd he goeth and findeth his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion are standing near the carcase -- the lion hath not eaten the carcase nor destroyed the ass.

şi el a plecat. A găsit trupul întins în drum, şi măgarul şi leul stînd lîngă trup. Leul nu mîncase trupul şi nu sfîşiase pe măgar.

29 A nd the prophet taketh up the carcase of the man of God, and placeth it on the ass, and bringeth it back, and the old prophet cometh in unto the city to mourn and to bury him,

Proorocul a ridicat trupul omului lui Dumnezeu, l -a pus pe măgar, şi l -a dus înapoi; şi bătrînul prooroc s'a întors în cetate să -l jălească şi să -l îngroape.

30 a nd he placeth his carcase in his own grave, and they mourn for him, `Oh, my brother!'

I -a pus trupul în mormînt şi l-au jălit, zicînd:,, Vai, frate!``

31 A nd it cometh to pass, after his burying him, that he speaketh unto his sons, saying, `At my death -- ye have buried me in the burying-place in which the man of God is buried; near his bones place my bones;

Dupăce l -a îngropat, a zis fiilor săi:,, Cînd voi muri, să mă îngropaţi în mormîntul în care este îngropat omul lui Dumnezeu; să-mi puneţi oasele lîngă oasele lui.

32 f or the word certainly cometh to pass that he called by the word of Jehovah concerning the altar which Beth-El, and concerning all the houses of the high places that in cities of Samaria.'

Căci se va împlini cuvîntul pe care l -a strigat el din partea Domnului împotriva, altarului din Betel, şi împotriva tuturor capiştelor de înălţimi din cetăţile Samariei.``

33 A fter this thing Jeroboam hath not turned from his evil way, and turneth back, and maketh of the extremities of the people priests of high places; he who is desirous he consecrateth his hand, and he is of the priests of the high places.

După întîmplarea aceasta, Ieroboam nu s'a abătut de pe calea lui cea rea. A pus iarăş preoţi pentru înălţimi, luaţi din tot poporul: pe oricine dorea, îl sfinţea preot al înălţimilor.

34 A nd in this thing is the sin of the house of Jeroboam, even to cut off, and to destroy from off the face of the ground.

Şi fapta aceasta a fost un prilej de păcătuire pentru casa lui Ieroboam, şi pentru aceasta a fost nimicită ea şi ştearsă de pe faţa pămîntului.
