1 A nd there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeketh the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah saith, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.'

Pe vremea lui David, a fost o foamete care a ţinut trei ani. David a întrebat pe Domnul, şi Domnul a zis:,, Din pricina lui Saul şi a casei lui sîngeroase, pentru că a ucis pe Gabaoniţi este foametea aceasta.``

2 A nd the king calleth for the Gibeonites, and saith unto them -- as to the Gibeonites, they not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeketh to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah --

Împăratul a chemat pe Gabaoniţi să le vorbească. -Gabaoniţii nu erau dintre copiii lui Israel, ci erau o rămăşiţă a Amoriţilor; copiii lui Israel se legaseră faţă de ei cu un jurămînt, şi totuş Saul voise să -i ucidă, în rîvna lui pentru copiii lui Israel şi Iuda. -

3 y ea, David saith unto the Gibeonites, `What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless ye the inheritance of Jehovah.'

David a zis Gabaoniţilor:,, Ce pot face eu pentru voi, şi cu se să fac ispăşire, ca să binecuvîntaţi moştenirea Domnului?``

4 A nd the Gibeonites say to him, `We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he saith, `What ye are saying I do to you.'

Gabaoniţii i-au răspuns:,, Nu voim nici argint nici aur dela Saul şi dela casa lui, şi nici nu este treaba noastră să omorîm pe cineva din Israel.`` Şi împăratul a zis:,, Ce voiţi dar să vă fac?``

5 A nd they say unto the king, `The man who consumed us, and who devised against us -- we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel --

Ei au răspuns împăratului:,, Fiindcă omul acela ne -a slăbit şi îşi pusese de gînd să ne nimicească pentru ca să ne facă să perim din tot ţinutul lui Israel,

6 l et there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Jehovah, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah.' And the king saith, `I do give;'

să ni se dea şapte bărbaţi din fiii lui, şi -i vom spînzura înaintea Domnului, la Ghibea lui Saul, alesul Domnului.`` Şi împăratul a zis:,, Vi -i voi da.``

7 a nd the king hath pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Jehovah that between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;

Împăratul a cruţat pe Mefiboşet, fiul lui Ionatan, fiul lui Saul, pentru jurămîntul pe care -l făcuseră între ei, înaintea Domnului, David şi Ionatan, fiul lui Saul.

8 a nd the king taketh the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite,

Dar împăratul a luat pe cei doi fii, pe cari -i născuse lui Saul Riţpa, fata lui Aiia, şi anume: Armoni şi Mefiboşet, şi pe cei cinci fii, pe cari -i născuse Merab, fata lui Saul, lui Adriel din Mehola, fiul lui Barzilai;

9 a nd giveth them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Jehovah; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first, the commencement of barley-harvest.

i -a dat în mînile Gabaoniţilor, cari i-au spînzurat pe munte, înaintea Domnului. Toţi cei şapte au perit împreună; au fost omorîţi în cele dintîi zile ale seceratului, la începutul seceratului orzurilor.

10 A nd Rizpah daughter of Aiah taketh the sackcloth, and stretcheth it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water hath been poured out upon them from the heavens, and hath not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night.

Riţpa, fata lui Aiia, a luat un sac şi l -a întins subt ea peste stîncă, dela începtul seceratului pînă cînd a căzut peste ei ploaie din cer; şi a oprit păsările cerului să se apropie de ei în timpul zilei, şi fiarele cîmpului în timpul nopţii.

11 A nd it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, hath done,

Au înştiinţat pe David despre ce făcuse Riţpa, fata lui Aiia, ţiitoarea lui Saul.

12 a nd David goeth and taketh the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa;

Şi David s'a dus şi a luat oasele lui Saul şi oasele fiului său Ionatan, dela locuitorii din Iabesul Galaadului, cari le luaseră din piaţa Bet-Şan, unde îi spînzuraseră Filistenii cînd au bătut pe Saul la Ghilboa.

13 a nd he bringeth up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged,

A luat de acolo oasele lui Saul şi oasele fiului său Ionatan; şi s'au strîns şi oasele celor ce fuseseră spînzuraţi.

14 a nd bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and God is entreated for the land afterwards.

Au îngropat oasele lui Saul şi fiului său Ionatan în ţara lui Beniamin, la Ţela, în mormîntul lui Chis, tatăl lui Saul. Şi au făcut tot ce poruncise împăratul. După aceea, Dumnezeu a fost potolit faţă de ţară.

15 A nd again have the Philistines war with Israel, and David goeth down, and his servants with him, and they fight with the Philistines; and David is weary,

Filistenii au pornit iarăş cu război împotriva lui Israel. David s'a pogorît cu slujitorii lui, şi a luptat împotriva Filistenilor. David era obosit.

16 a nd Ishbi-Benob, who among the children of the giant -- the weight of his spear three hundred weight of brass, and he is girded with a new one -- speaketh of smiting David,

Şi Işbi-Benob, unul din copiii lui Rafa, a voit să omoare pe David; avea o suliţă în greutate de trei sute de sicli de aramă, şi era încins cu o sabie nouă.

17 a nd Abishai son of Zeruiah giveth help to him, and smiteth the Philistine, and putteth him to death; then swear the men of David to him, saying, `Thou dost not go out again with us to battle, nor quench the lamp of Israel.'

18 A nd it cometh to pass afterwards, that the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Saph, who among the children of the giant.

19 A nd the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim, the Beth-Lehemite, smiteth Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear like a beam of weavers.

A mai fost o bătălie la Gob cu Filistenii. Şi Elhanan, fiul lui Iaare-Oreghim, din Betleem, a omorît pe Goliat din Gat, care avea o suliţă, al cărei mîner era ca sulul de ţesut.

20 A nd the battle is again in Gath, and there is a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands six, and the toes of his feet six, twenty and four in number, and he also hath been born to the giant,

A mai fost o bătălie la Gat. Acolo era un om de statură înaltă, care avea şase degete la fiecare mînă şi la fiecare picior, în totul douăzeci şi patru, şi care se trăgea tot din Rafa.

21 a nd he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimeah, brother of David;

El a batjocorit pe Israel; şi Ionatan, fiul lui Şimea, fratele lui David, l -a omorît.

22 t hese four have been born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Aceşti patru oameni erau copiii lui Rafa născuţi la Gat. Au perit ucişi de mîna lui David şi de mîna slujitorilor lui.
