1 A nd having been saved, then they knew that the island is called Melita,

Dupăce am scăpat de primejdie, am aflat că ostrovul se chema Malta.

2 a nd the foreigners were shewing us no ordinary kindness, for having kindled a fire, they received us all, because of the pressing rain, and because of the cold;

Barbarii ne-au arătat o bunăvoinţă puţin obicinuită; ne-au primit pe toţi la un foc mare, pe care -l aprinseseră din pricină că ploua, şi se lăsase un frig mare.

3 b ut Paul having gathered together a quantity of sticks, and having laid upon the fire, a viper -- out of the heat having come -- did fasten on his hand.

Pavel strînsese o grămadă de mărăcini, şi -i pusese pe foc; o năpîrcă a ieşit afară din pricina căldurii, şi s'a lipit de mîna lui.

4 A nd when the foreigners saw the beast hanging from his hand, they said unto one another, `Certainly this man is a murderer, whom, having been saved out of the sea, the justice did not suffer to live;'

Barbarii, cînd au văzut năpîrca spînzurată de mîna lui, au zis unii către alţii:,, Cu adevărat omul acesta este un ucigaş, căci, Dreptatea` nu vrea să -l lase să trăiască, măcar că a fost scăpat din mare.``

5 h e then, indeed, having shaken off the beast into the fire, suffered no evil,

Pavel a scuturat năpîrca în foc, şi n'a simţit niciun rău.

6 a nd they were expecting him to be about to be inflamed, or to fall down suddenly dead, and they, expecting a long time, and seeing nothing uncommon happening to him, changing minds, said he was a god.

Oamenii aceia se aşteptau să -l vadă umflîndu-se sau căzînd deodată mort; dar, dupăce au aşteptat mult, şi au văzut că nu i se întîmplă niciun rău, şi-au schimbat părerea, şi ziceau că este un zeu.

7 A nd in the neighbourhood of that place were lands of the principal man of the island, by name Publius, who, having received us, three days did courteously lodge;

În împrejurimi erau moşiile mai marelui ostrovului, numit Publius. El ne -a primit şi ne -a ospătat cu cea mai mare bunăvoinţă trei zile.

8 a nd it came to pass, the father of Publius with feverish heats and dysentery pressed, was laid, unto whom Paul having entered, and having prayed, having laid hands on him, healed him;

Tatăl lui Publius zăcea atunci în pat, bolnav de friguri şi de urdinare. Pavel s'a dus la el, s'a rugat, a pus mînile peste el, şi l -a vindecat.

9 t his, therefore, being done, the others also in the island having infirmities were coming and were healed;

Atunci au venit şi ceilalţi bolnavi din ostrovul acela, şi au fost vindecaţi.

10 w ho also with many honours did honour us, and we setting sail -- they were lading with the things that were necessary.

Ni s'a dat mare cinste; şi, la plecarea noastră cu corabia, ne-au dat tot ce ne trebuia pentru drum.``

11 A nd after three months, we set sail in a ship (that had wintered in the isle) of Alexandria, with the sign Dioscuri,

După o şedere de trei luni, am pornit cu o corabie din Alexandria, care iernase în ostrov şi care purta semnul Dioscurilor.

12 a nd having landed at Syracuse, we remained three days,

Am ajuns la Siracusa, şi am rămas acolo trei zile.

13 t hence having gone round, we came to Rhegium, and after one day, a south wind having sprung up, the second we came to Puteoli;

De acolo, am mers înainte pe lîngă coastă, şi am venit la Regio; iar a doua zi, fiindcă sufla vîntul de miazăzi, după două zile, am venit la Puzole,

14 w here, having found brethren, we were called upon to remain with them seven days, and thus to Rome we came;

unde am dat peste nişte fraţi, cari ne-au rugat să mai rămînem şapte zile cu ei. Şi aşa am ajuns la Roma.

15 a nd thence, the brethren having heard the things concerning us, came forth to meet us, unto Appii Forum, and Three Taverns -- whom Paul having seen, having given thanks to God, took courage.

Din Roma ne-au ieşit înainte, pînă în,, Forul lui Apiu``, şi pînă la,, Cele trei Cîrciumi``, fraţii, cari auziseră despre noi. Cînd i -a văzut Pavel, a mulţămit lui Dumnezeu, şi s'a îmbărbătat.

16 A nd when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered up the prisoners to the captain of the barrack, but Paul was suffered to remain by himself, with the soldier guarding him.

Cînd am ajuns la Roma, sutaşul a dat pe cei întemniţaţi căpitanului străjerilor palatului, iar lui Pavel i s'a îngăduit să rămînă într'un loc deosebit cu un ostaş care -l păzea.

17 A nd it came to pass after three days, Paul called together those who are the principal men of the Jews, and they having come together, he said unto them: `Men, brethren, I -- having done nothing contrary to the people, or to the customs of the fathers -- a prisoner from Jerusalem, was delivered up to the hands of the Romans;

După trei zile, Pavel a chemat pe mai marii Iudeilor; şi, cînd s'au adunat, le -a zis:,, Fraţilor, fără să fi făcut ceva împotriva norodului sau obiceiurilor părinţilor noştri, am fost băgat la închisoare în Ierusalim, şi de acolo am fost dat în mînile Romanilor.

18 w ho, having examined me, were wishing to release, because of their being no cause of death in me,

Dupăce m'au supus la cercetare, ei aveau de gînd să-mi dea drumul, pentrucă nu era în mine nici o vină vrednică de moarte.

19 a nd the Jews having spoken against, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar -- not as having anything to accuse my nation of;

Dar Iudeii s'au împotrivit, şi am fost silit să cer să fiu judecat de Cezar, fără să am dealtfel niciun gînd să pîrăsc neamul meu.

20 f or this cause, therefore, I called for you to see and to speak with, for because of the hope of Israel with this chain I am bound.'

De aceea, v'am chemat să vă văd, şi să vorbesc cu voi; căci din pricina nădejdii lui Israel port eu acest lanţ.``

21 A nd they said unto him, `We did neither receive letters concerning thee from Judea, nor did any one who came of the brethren declare or speak any evil concerning thee,

Ei i-au răspuns:,, Noi n'am primit din Iudea nici o scrisoare cu privire la tine, şi n'a venit aici nici un frate, care să fi spus sau să fi vorbit ceva rău despre tine.

22 a nd we think it good from thee to hear what thou dost think, for, indeed, concerning this sect it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against;'

Dar am vrea să auzim părerea ta, pentrucă ştim că partida aceasta pretutindeni stîrneşte împotrivire.``

23 a nd having appointed him a day, they came, more of them unto him, to the lodging, to whom he was expounding, testifying fully the reign of God, persuading them also of the things concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses, and the prophets, from morning till evening,

I-au hotărît o zi, şi au venit mai mulţi la locuinţa lui. Pavel le -a vestit Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu, le -a adus dovezi, şi a căutat să -i încredinţeze, prin Legea lui Moise şi prin Prooroci, despre lucrurile privitoare la Isus. Vorbirea ţinea de dimineaţă pînă seara.

24 a nd, some, indeed, were believing the things spoken, and some were not believing.

Unii au crezut ce le spunea el, iar alţii n'au crezut.

25 A nd not being agreed with one another, they were going away, Paul having spoken one word -- `Well did the Holy Spirit speak through Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers,

Fiindcă ei au plecat acasă în neînţelegere unii cu alţii, Pavel n'a adăugat decît aceste vorbe:,, Bine a spus Duhul Sfînt prin proorocul Isaia către părinţii voştri,

26 s aying, Go on unto this people and say, With hearing ye shall hear, and ye shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see, and ye shall not perceive,

cînd a zis:, Du-te la poporul acesta, şi zi -i:,, Veţi auzi cu urechile voastre, şi nu veţi înţelege; cu ochii voştri veţi privi, şi nu veţi vedea.

27 f or made gross was the heart of this people, and with the ears they heard heavily, and their eyes they did close, lest they may see with the eyes, and with the heart may understand, and be turned back, and I may heal them.

Căci inima acestui norod s'a împietrit; ei aud greu cu urechile, şi-au închis ochii, ca nu cumva să vadă cu ochii, să audă cu urechile, să înţeleagă cu inima, să se întoarcă la Dumnezeu, şi să -i vindec.``

28 ` Be it known, therefore, to you, that to the nations was sent the salvation of God, these also will hear it;'

Să ştiţi dar că mîntuirea aceasta a lui Dumnezeu a fost trimeasă Neamurilor, şi o vor asculta.``

29 a nd he having said these things, the Jews went away, having much disputation among themselves;

Cînd a zis aceste vorbe, Iudeii au plecat, vorbind cu aprindere între ei.

30 a nd Paul remained an entire two years in his own hired, and was receiving all those coming in unto him,

Pavel a rămas doi ani întregi într'o casă, pe care o luase cu chirie. Primea pe toţi cari veneau să -l vadă,

31 p reaching the reign of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness -- unforbidden.

propovăduia Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu, şi învăţa pe oameni, cu toată îndrăzneala şi fără nicio pedică, cele privitoare la Domnul Isus Hristos
