1 A nd having been saved, then they knew that the island is called Melita,

Una vez a salvo, supimos que la isla se llamaba Malta.

2 a nd the foreigners were shewing us no ordinary kindness, for having kindled a fire, they received us all, because of the pressing rain, and because of the cold;

Allí los habitantes nos trataron con mucha amabilidad. Como estaba lloviendo y hacía mucho frío, nos recibieron a todos con una fogata que hicieron.

3 b ut Paul having gathered together a quantity of sticks, and having laid upon the fire, a viper -- out of the heat having come -- did fasten on his hand.

Pablo fue entonces a recoger algunas ramas secas para echarlas al fuego, pero una víbora que huía del calor se le prendió de la mano.

4 A nd when the foreigners saw the beast hanging from his hand, they said unto one another, `Certainly this man is a murderer, whom, having been saved out of the sea, the justice did not suffer to live;'

Cuando los lugareños vieron que la víbora pendía de su mano, se dijeron unos a otros: «Con toda seguridad este hombre es un homicida, pues logró escapar del mar, pero la justicia lo ha alcanzado y no lo dejará vivir.»

5 h e then, indeed, having shaken off the beast into the fire, suffered no evil,

Pero Pablo se sacudió la víbora y ésta cayó en el fuego, sin que Pablo sufriera ningún daño.

6 a nd they were expecting him to be about to be inflamed, or to fall down suddenly dead, and they, expecting a long time, and seeing nothing uncommon happening to him, changing minds, said he was a god.

La gente esperaba que Pablo se hinchara o cayera muerto; pero como después de mucho esperar vieron que no le pasaba nada, cambiaron de parecer y lo consideraban un dios.

7 A nd in the neighbourhood of that place were lands of the principal man of the island, by name Publius, who, having received us, three days did courteously lodge;

En aquella isla las propiedades eran de un hombre importante llamado Publio, quien nos recibió y amablemente nos hospedó durante tres días.

8 a nd it came to pass, the father of Publius with feverish heats and dysentery pressed, was laid, unto whom Paul having entered, and having prayed, having laid hands on him, healed him;

Y resultó que el padre de Publio estaba enfermo. Tenía fiebre y disentería, y estaba en cama. Pero Pablo fue a verlo y, luego de orar por él, le impuso las manos y lo sanó.

9 t his, therefore, being done, the others also in the island having infirmities were coming and were healed;

Cuando se supo lo que Pablo había hecho, otros de la isla con distintas enfermedades vinieron a él, y también fueron sanados.

10 w ho also with many honours did honour us, and we setting sail -- they were lading with the things that were necessary.

En agradecimiento, nos trataron con mucha amabilidad, y cuando zarpamos nos llenaron de todas las provisiones necesarias. Pablo llega a Roma

11 A nd after three months, we set sail in a ship (that had wintered in the isle) of Alexandria, with the sign Dioscuri,

Después de haber estado tres meses en la isla, nos hicimos a la mar en una nave alejandrina que había pasado el invierno allí, y que tenía por insignia a los dioses Cástor y Pólux.

12 a nd having landed at Syracuse, we remained three days,

Llegamos a Siracusa, y allí nos quedamos tres días.

13 t hence having gone round, we came to Rhegium, and after one day, a south wind having sprung up, the second we came to Puteoli;

Luego seguimos la costa y llegamos a Regio; un día después tuvimos viento del sur, y al segundo día llegamos a Puteoli,

14 w here, having found brethren, we were called upon to remain with them seven days, and thus to Rome we came;

donde hallamos algunos hermanos, los cuales nos pidieron quedarnos con ellos siete días; luego fuimos a Roma.

15 a nd thence, the brethren having heard the things concerning us, came forth to meet us, unto Appii Forum, and Three Taverns -- whom Paul having seen, having given thanks to God, took courage.

Cuando los hermanos supieron de nosotros, salieron a recibirnos hasta el Foro de Apio y las Tres Tabernas. Al verlos, Pablo dio gracias a Dios y recuperó el ánimo.

16 A nd when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered up the prisoners to the captain of the barrack, but Paul was suffered to remain by himself, with the soldier guarding him.

Al llegar a Roma, el centurión entregó los presos al prefecto militar, pero a Pablo se le permitió vivir aparte, bajo la vigilancia de un soldado. Pablo predica en Roma

17 A nd it came to pass after three days, Paul called together those who are the principal men of the Jews, and they having come together, he said unto them: `Men, brethren, I -- having done nothing contrary to the people, or to the customs of the fathers -- a prisoner from Jerusalem, was delivered up to the hands of the Romans;

Tres días después, Pablo convocó a los judíos más importantes, y cuando todos estuvieron reunidos, les dijo: «Hermanos míos, yo no he cometido ningún mal contra el pueblo ni contra las costumbres de nuestros padres; sin embargo, me aprehendieron en Jerusalén y me entregaron al poder de los romanos.

18 w ho, having examined me, were wishing to release, because of their being no cause of death in me,

Éstos examinaron mi caso y quisieron ponerme en libertad, pues no hallaron ninguna razón para condenarme a muerte.

19 a nd the Jews having spoken against, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar -- not as having anything to accuse my nation of;

Pero como los judíos se opusieron, me vi obligado a apelar al emperador, aun cuando no tengo nada en contra de mi pueblo.

20 f or this cause, therefore, I called for you to see and to speak with, for because of the hope of Israel with this chain I am bound.'

Por esta razón los he llamado, pues quería verlos y hablar con ustedes. ¡Me encuentro encadenado por creer en la esperanza de Israel!

21 A nd they said unto him, `We did neither receive letters concerning thee from Judea, nor did any one who came of the brethren declare or speak any evil concerning thee,

Ellos le dijeron: «Nosotros no hemos recibido de Judea ninguna carta en relación contigo, ni ha venido ninguno de los hermanos a denunciarte o a decir algo malo acerca de ti.

22 a nd we think it good from thee to hear what thou dost think, for, indeed, concerning this sect it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against;'

Pero nos gustaría que nos dijeras lo que piensas, pues sabemos que por todas partes se habla en contra de esta secta.»

23 a nd having appointed him a day, they came, more of them unto him, to the lodging, to whom he was expounding, testifying fully the reign of God, persuading them also of the things concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses, and the prophets, from morning till evening,

Pablo les señaló un día para reunirse, y muchos acudieron al lugar donde se hospedaba, y desde la mañana hasta la tarde les habló del reino de Dios, citando tanto la ley de Moisés como a los profetas para convencerlos acerca de Jesús.

24 a nd, some, indeed, were believing the things spoken, and some were not believing.

Algunos concordaban con lo que Pablo decía, pero otros no creían.

25 A nd not being agreed with one another, they were going away, Paul having spoken one word -- `Well did the Holy Spirit speak through Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers,

Y como no se pusieron de acuerdo, al retirarse Pablo les dijo: «Bien habló el Espíritu Santo a nuestros padres por medio del profeta Isaías, cuando dijo:

26 s aying, Go on unto this people and say, With hearing ye shall hear, and ye shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see, and ye shall not perceive,

»“Ve a este pueblo, y dile: Ustedes oirán, pero no entenderán; Verán, pero no percibirán.

27 f or made gross was the heart of this people, and with the ears they heard heavily, and their eyes they did close, lest they may see with the eyes, and with the heart may understand, and be turned back, and I may heal them.

Porque su corazón se ha endurecido, Y sus oídos son incapaces de oír. Han cerrado sus ojos, para no ver ni oír, ni entender bien; para que no se conviertan y yo los sane.”

28 ` Be it known, therefore, to you, that to the nations was sent the salvation of God, these also will hear it;'

»Por lo tanto, deben saber que a los no judíos se les envía esta salvación de Dios, y ellos sí oirán.»

29 a nd he having said these things, the Jews went away, having much disputation among themselves;

Al oír esto los judíos, se fueron luego de discutir largamente entre ellos.

30 a nd Paul remained an entire two years in his own hired, and was receiving all those coming in unto him,

Pablo permaneció dos años enteros en una casa alquilada, y allí recibía a todos los que iban a verlo;

31 p reaching the reign of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness -- unforbidden.

y sin ningún temor ni impedimento les predicaba acerca del reino de Dios y les enseñaba acerca del Señor Jesucristo.
