1 I n the seventh, in the twenty and first of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

El día veintiuno del mes séptimo la palabra del Señor vino por medio del profeta Hageo, y dijo:

2 ` Speak, I pray thee, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, and unto the remnant of the people, saying:

«Habla ahora con Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, que es el gobernador de Judá, y con Josué hijo de Josadac, el sumo sacerdote, y también con el resto del pueblo, y diles:

3 W ho among you hath been left that saw this house in its former honour? And what are ye seeing it now? Is it not, compared with it, as nothing in your eyes?

“¿Hay entre ustedes alguien que haya visto el esplendor que antes tuvo esta casa? ¿Qué les parece ahora? ¿No es verdad que la ven como muy poca cosa?

4 A nd now, be strong, O Zerubbabel, An affirmation of Jehovah, And be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, And be strong, all ye people of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do ye -- (for I with you, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts) --

Pues esfuérzate ahora, Zorobabel, y esfuérzate también tú, Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote; y ustedes, pueblo todo de la tierra, ¡cobren ánimo y pónganse a trabajar, que yo estoy con ustedes! —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.

5 T he thing that I covenanted with you, In your coming forth from Egypt, And My Spirit is remaining in your midst, fear not.

”Mi espíritu estará entre ustedes, de acuerdo con el pacto que hice con ustedes cuando salieron de Egipto. Así que no tengan miedo.”»

6 F or thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Yet once more -- it a little, And I am shaking the heavens and the earth, And the sea, and the dry land,

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: «Dentro de poco tiempo haré temblar los cielos y la tierra, el mar y la tierra seca.

7 A nd I have shaken all the nations, And they have come the desire of all the nations, And I have filled this house honour, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

Haré temblar a todas las naciones. Entonces vendrá lo más deseado por todas las naciones, y llenaré de gloria esta casa. Lo digo yo, el Señor de los ejércitos.

8 M ine the silver, and Mine the gold, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

La plata y el oro son míos. —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.

9 G reater is the honour of this latter house, Than of the former, said Jehovah of Hosts, And in this place do I give peace, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.'

»Al final, la gloria de esta casa será mayor que al principio, y haré que en este lugar haya paz. Lo digo yo, el Señor de los ejércitos.» —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos. El pueblo es reprendido por su infidelidad

10 O n the twenty and fourth of the ninth, in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

El día veinticuatro del mes noveno del año segundo de Darío, la palabra del Señor vino por medio del profeta Hageo, y dijo:

11 T hus said Jehovah of Hosts: `Ask, I pray thee, the priests the law, saying:

«Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: Pregúntales ahora a los sacerdotes en cuanto a la ley. Diles:

12 L o, one doth carry holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and he hath come with his skirt against the bread, or against the pottage, or against the wine, or against the oil, or against any food -- is it holy?' And the priests answer and say, `No.'

“Si alguien lleva carne santificada en la falda de su ropa, y con el vuelo de ella toca pan, comida, vino, aceite, o cualquier otro alimento, ¿la carne queda santificada?” Y los sacerdotes respondieron: “¡Por supuesto que no!”

13 A nd Haggai saith, `If the unclean of body doth come against any of these, is it unclean?' And the priests answer and say, `It is unclean.'

Entonces les dijo Hageo: “Si alguien que esté impuro por haber tocado un cadáver toca alguna de estas cosas, ¿este hecho las hace impuras?” Y los sacerdotes respondieron: “¡Por supuesto que sí!”»

14 A nd Haggai answereth and saith, `So this people, and so this nation before Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and so every work of their hands, and that which they bring near there -- it is unclean.

Hageo dijo entonces: «Así es como se porta este pueblo delante de mí, y así también son todas las obras de sus manos. ¡Todo lo que aquí ofrecen es impuro. —Palabra del Señor.

15 A nd now, lay, I pray you, to your heart, From this day, and onwards, Before the laying of stone to stone in the temple of Jehovah.

»Pero de ahora en adelante pónganse a pensar de corazón, antes de que pongan una piedra sobre otra en el templo del Señor.

16 F rom that time hath come to a heap of twenty, And it hath been ten, He hath come unto the wine-fat to draw out fifty purahs, And it hath been twenty.

Antes de que sucediera todo esto, iban ustedes al montón de trigo para recoger veinte sacos, y sólo encontraban diez; o iban al lagar para sacar cincuenta cántaros de vino, y sólo sacaban veinte.

17 I have smitten you with blasting, And with mildew, and with hail -- All the work of your hands, And there is none of you with Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Yo deshice con viento solano, con tizoncillo y con granizo todas las obras de sus manos, pero ustedes no se volvieron a mí. —Palabra del Señor.

18 S et, I pray you, to your heart, from this day and onwards, from the twenty and fourth day of the ninth, even from the day that the temple of Jehovah hath been founded, set to your heart.

»Por lo tanto, de ahora en adelante pónganse a pensar de corazón. A partir del día veinticuatro del mes noveno, día en que se echaron los cimientos del templo del Señor, piensen bien y de corazón:

19 I s the seed yet in the barn? And hitherto the vine and the fig, And the pomegranate, and the olive-tree, Have not borne -- from this day I bless.'

¿No es verdad que la simiente aún está en el granero? ¿No es verdad que todavía no florecen las vides ni las higueras, ni los granados ni los olivos? Pero a partir de este día yo los bendeciré.» Promesa del Señor a Zorobabel

20 A nd there is a word of Jehovah a second time unto Haggai, on the twenty and fourth of the month, saying:

El día veinticuatro del mismo mes la palabra del Señor vino a Hageo por segunda vez, y dijo:

21 ` Speak unto Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying: I am shaking the heavens and the earth,

«Habla con Zorobabel, que es el gobernador de Judá, y dile: “Yo voy a hacer que tiemblen los cielos y la tierra.

22 A nd have overturned the throne of kingdoms, And I have destroyed the strength of kingdoms of the nations, And overturned chariot and its charioteers, And come down have horses and their riders, Each by the sword of his brother.

Voy a trastornar el trono de los reinos y a destruir la fuerza de los reinos de las naciones. Voy a trastornar sus carros de guerra y sus tripulantes, y rodarán por tierra los caballos y sus jinetes, cada uno de ellos a manos de la espada de su compañero.

23 I n that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, I take thee, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And have set thee as a signet, for on thee I have fixed, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts!

Cuando llegue ese día, yo te tomaré a ti, Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, y haré de ti mi anillo de sellar, porque tú eres mi siervo: ¡yo te he escogido!”» —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.
