1 I n the seventh, in the twenty and first of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

No vigésimo primeiro dia do sétimo mês, veio a palavra do Senhor por meio do profeta Ageu:

2 ` Speak, I pray thee, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, and unto the remnant of the people, saying:

“Pergunte o seguinte ao governador de Judá, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, ao sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, e ao restante do povo:

3 W ho among you hath been left that saw this house in its former honour? And what are ye seeing it now? Is it not, compared with it, as nothing in your eyes?

Quem de vocês viu este templo em seu primeiro esplendor? Comparado a ele, não é como nada o que vocês vêem agora?

4 A nd now, be strong, O Zerubbabel, An affirmation of Jehovah, And be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, And be strong, all ye people of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do ye -- (for I with you, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts) --

“Coragem, Zorobabel”, declara o Senhor. “Coragem, sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque. Coragem! Ao trabalho, ó povo da terra!”, declara o Senhor. “Porque eu estou com vocês”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos.

5 T he thing that I covenanted with you, In your coming forth from Egypt, And My Spirit is remaining in your midst, fear not.

“Esta é a aliança que fiz com vocês quando vocês saíram do Egito: Meu espírito está entre vocês. Não tenham medo”.

6 F or thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Yet once more -- it a little, And I am shaking the heavens and the earth, And the sea, and the dry land,

Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: “Dentro de pouco tempo farei tremer o céu, a terra, o mar e o continente.

7 A nd I have shaken all the nations, And they have come the desire of all the nations, And I have filled this house honour, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

Farei tremer todas as nações, as quais trarão para cá os seus tesouros, e encherei este templo de glória”, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.

8 M ine the silver, and Mine the gold, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

“Tanto a prata quanto o ouro me pertencem”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos.

9 G reater is the honour of this latter house, Than of the former, said Jehovah of Hosts, And in this place do I give peace, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.'

“A glória deste novo templo será maior do que a do antigo”, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos. “E neste lugar estabelecerei a paz”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos. Promessa de Bênçãos

10 O n the twenty and fourth of the ninth, in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

No vigésimo quarto dia do nono mês, no segundo ano do reinado de Dario, a palavra do Senhor veio ao profeta Ageu:

11 T hus said Jehovah of Hosts: `Ask, I pray thee, the priests the law, saying:

Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: “Faça aos sacerdotes a seguinte pergunta sobre a Lei:

12 L o, one doth carry holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and he hath come with his skirt against the bread, or against the pottage, or against the wine, or against the oil, or against any food -- is it holy?' And the priests answer and say, `No.'

Se alguém levar carne consagrada na borda de suas vestes, e com elas tocar num pão, ou em algo cozido, ou em vinho, ou em azeite ou em qualquer comida, isso ficará consagrado?” Os sacerdotes responderam: “Não”.

13 A nd Haggai saith, `If the unclean of body doth come against any of these, is it unclean?' And the priests answer and say, `It is unclean.'

Em seguida perguntou Ageu: “Se alguém ficar impuro por tocar num cadáver e depois tocar em alguma dessas coisas, ela ficará impura?” “Sim”, responderam os sacerdotes, “ficará impura.”

14 A nd Haggai answereth and saith, `So this people, and so this nation before Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and so every work of their hands, and that which they bring near there -- it is unclean.

Ageu transmitiu esta resposta do Senhor: “É o que acontece com este povo e com esta nação. Tudo o que fazem e tudo o que me oferecem é impuro.

15 A nd now, lay, I pray you, to your heart, From this day, and onwards, Before the laying of stone to stone in the temple of Jehovah.

“Agora prestem atenção; de hoje em diante reconsiderem. Em que condições vocês viviam antes que se colocasse pedra sobre pedra no templo do Senhor ?

16 F rom that time hath come to a heap of twenty, And it hath been ten, He hath come unto the wine-fat to draw out fifty purahs, And it hath been twenty.

Quando alguém chegava a um monte de trigo procurando vinte medidas, havia apenas dez. Quando alguém ia ao depósito de vinho para tirar cinqüenta medidas, só encontrava vinte.

17 I have smitten you with blasting, And with mildew, and with hail -- All the work of your hands, And there is none of you with Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Eu destruí todo o trabalho das mãos de vocês, com mofo, ferrugem e granizo, mas vocês não se voltaram para mim”, declara o Senhor.

18 S et, I pray you, to your heart, from this day and onwards, from the twenty and fourth day of the ninth, even from the day that the temple of Jehovah hath been founded, set to your heart.

“A partir de hoje, vigésimo quarto dia do nono mês, atentem para o dia em que os fundamentos do templo do Senhor foram lançados. Reconsiderem:

19 I s the seed yet in the barn? And hitherto the vine and the fig, And the pomegranate, and the olive-tree, Have not borne -- from this day I bless.'

ainda há alguma semente no celeiro? Até hoje a videira, a figueira, a romeira e a oliveira não têm dado fruto. Mas, de hoje em diante, abençoarei vocês.” As Promessas para Zorobabel

20 A nd there is a word of Jehovah a second time unto Haggai, on the twenty and fourth of the month, saying:

A palavra do Senhor veio a Ageu pela segunda vez, no vigésimo quarto dia do nono mês:

21 ` Speak unto Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying: I am shaking the heavens and the earth,

“Diga a Zorobabel, governador de Judá, que eu farei tremer o céu e a terra.

22 A nd have overturned the throne of kingdoms, And I have destroyed the strength of kingdoms of the nations, And overturned chariot and its charioteers, And come down have horses and their riders, Each by the sword of his brother.

Derrubarei tronos e destruirei o poder dos reinos estrangeiros. Virarei os carros e os seus condutores; os cavalos e os seus cavaleiros cairão, cada um pela espada do seu companheiro.

23 I n that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, I take thee, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And have set thee as a signet, for on thee I have fixed, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts!

“Naquele dia”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos, “eu o tomarei, meu servo Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel”, declara o Senhor, “e farei de você um anel de selar, porque o tenho escolhido”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos.
