1 L o, for righteousness doth a king reign, As to princes, for judgment they rule.

Vejam! Um rei reinará com retidão, e príncipes governarão com justiça.

2 A nd each hath been as a hiding-place wind, And as a secret hiding-place inundation, As rivulets of waters in a dry place, As a shadow of a heavy rock in a weary land.

Cada homem será como um esconderijo contra o vento e um abrigo contra a tempestade, como correntes de água numa terra seca e como a sombra de uma grande rocha no deserto.

3 A nd not dazzled are the eyes of beholders, And the ears of hearers do attend.

Então os olhos dos que vêem não mais estarão fechados, e os ouvidos dos que ouvem escutarão.

4 A nd the heart of those hastened Understandeth to know, And the tongue of stammerers hasteth to speak clearly.

A mente do precipitado saberá julgar, e a língua gaguejante falará com facilidade e clareza.

5 A fool is no more called `noble,' And to a miser it is not said, `rich;'

O tolo já não será chamado nobre e o homem sem caráter não será tido em alta estima.

6 F or a fool speaketh folly, And his heart doth iniquity, to do profanity, And to speak concerning Jehovah error, To empty the soul of the hungry, Yea, drink of the thirsty he causeth to lack.

Pois o insensato fala com insensatez e só pensa no mal: ele pratica a maldade e espalha mentiras sobre o Senhor; deixa o faminto sem nada e priva de água o sedento.

7 A nd the miser -- his instruments evil, He hath counselled wicked devices, To corrupt the poor with lying sayings, Even when the needy speaketh justly.

As artimanhas do homem sem caráter são perversas; ele inventa planos maldosos para destruir com mentiras o pobre, mesmo quando a súplica deste é justa.

8 A nd the noble counselled noble things, And he for noble things riseth up.

Mas o homem nobre faz planos nobres, e graças aos seus feitos nobres permanece firme. As Mulheres de Jerusalém

9 W omen, easy ones, rise, hear my voice, Daughters, confident ones, give ear my saying,

Vocês, mulheres tão sossegadas, levantem-se e escutem-me! Vocês, filhas que se sentem seguras, ouçam o que lhes vou dizer!

10 D ays and a year ye are troubled, O confident ones, For consumed hath been harvest, The gathering cometh not.

Daqui a pouco mais de um ano, vocês, que se sentem seguras, ficarão apavoradas; a colheita de uvas falhará, e a colheita de frutas não virá.

11 T remble ye women, ye easy ones, Be troubled, ye confident ones, Strip and make bare, with a girdle on the loins,

Tremam, vocês, mulheres tranqüilas! Estremeçam, vocês, que se sentem seguras! Arranquem suas vestes, e vistam roupas de lamento.

12 F or breasts they are lamenting, For fields of desire, for the fruitful vine.

Batam no peito e chorem pelos campos agradáveis, pelas videiras frutíferas

13 O ver the ground of my people thorn -- brier goeth up, Surely over all houses of joy of the exulting city,

e pela terra do meu povo, terra infestada de espinhos e roseiras bravas; sim, pranteiem por todas as casas cheias de júbilo e por esta cidade exultante.

14 S urely the palace hath been left, The multitude of the city forsaken, Fort and watch-tower hath been for dens unto the age, A joy of wild asses -- a pasture of herds;

A fortaleza será abandonada, a cidade barulhenta ficará deserta, a cidadela e a torre das sentinelas se tornarão covis, uma delícia para os jumentos, uma pastagem para os rebanhos,

15 T ill emptied out on us is the Spirit from on high, And a wilderness hath become a fruitful field, And the fruitful field for a forest is reckoned.

até que sobre nós o Espírito seja derramado do alto, e o deserto se transforme em campo fértil, e o campo fértil pareça uma floresta.

16 A nd dwelt in the wilderness hath judgment, And righteousness in the fruitful field remaineth.

A justiça habitará no deserto, e a retidão viverá no campo fértil.

17 A nd a work of the righteousness hath been peace, And a service of the righteousness -- Keeping quiet and confidence unto the age.

O fruto da justiça será paz; o resultado da justiça será tranqüilidade e confiança para sempre.

18 A nd dwelt hath My people in a peaceful habitation, And in stedfast tabernacles, And in quiet resting-places.

O meu povo viverá em locais pacíficos, em casas seguras, em tranqüilos lugares de descanso,

19 A nd it hath hailed in the going down of the forest, And in the valley is the city low.

mesmo que a saraiva arrase a floresta e a cidade seja nivelada ao pó.

20 H appy ye sowing by all waters, Sending forth the foot of the ox and the ass!

Como vocês serão felizes, semeando perto das águas, e deixando soltos os bois e os jumentos!
