1 A nd much cattle hath been to the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad, very many; and they see the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, and lo, the place a place cattle;

As tribos de Rúben e de Gade, donas de numerosos rebanhos, viram que as terras de Jazar e de Gileade eram próprias para a criação de gado.

2 a nd the sons of Gad, and the sons of Reuben, come in and speak unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the company, saying:

Por isso foram a Moisés, ao sacerdote Eleazar e aos líderes da comunidade, e disseram:

3 ` Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon --

“Atarote, Dibom, Jazar, Ninra, Hesbom, Eleale, Sebã, Nebo e Beom,

4 t he land which Jehovah hath smitten before the company of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle.'

terras que o Senhor subjugou perante a comunidade de Israel, são próprias para a criação de gado, e os seus servos possuem gado”.

5 A nd they say, `If we have found grace in thine eyes, let this land be given to thy servants for a possession; cause us not to pass over the Jordan.'

E acrescentaram: “Se podemos contar com o favor de vocês, deixem que essa terra seja dada a estes seus servos como herança. Não nos façam atravessar o Jordão”.

6 A nd Moses saith to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, `Do your brethren go in to the battle, and ye -- do ye sit here?

Moisés respondeu aos homens de Gade e de Rúben: “E os seus compatriotas irão à guerra enquanto vocês ficam aqui?

7 a nd why discourage ye the heart of the sons of Israel from passing over unto the land which Jehovah hath given to them?

Por que vocês desencorajam os israelitas de entrar na terra que o Senhor lhes deu?

8 ` Thus did your fathers in my sending them from Kadesh-Barnea to see the land;

Foi isso que os pais de vocês fizeram quando os enviei de Cades-Barnéia para verem a terra.

9 a nd they go up unto the valley of Eshcol, and see the land, and discourage the heart of the sons of Israel so as not to go in unto the land which Jehovah hath given to them;

Depois de subirem ao vale de Escol e examinarem a terra, desencorajaram os israelitas de entrar na terra que o Senhor lhes tinha dado.

10 a nd the anger of Jehovah burneth in that day, and He sweareth, saying,

A ira do Senhor se acendeu naquele dia, e ele fez este juramento:

11 T hey do not see -- the men who are coming up out of Egypt from a son of twenty years and upward -- the ground which I have sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, for they have not been fully after Me;

‘Como não me seguiram de coração íntegro, nenhum dos homens de vinte anos para cima que saíram do Egito verá a terra que prometi sob juramento a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacó,

12 s ave Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua son of Nun, for they have been fully after Jehovah;

com exceção de Calebe, filho de Jefoné, o quenezeu, e Josué, filho de Num, que seguiram o Senhor com integridade de coração’.

13 a nd the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He causeth them to wander in the wilderness forty years, until the consumption of all the generation which is doing the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah.

A ira do Senhor acendeu-se contra Israel, e ele os fez andar errantes no deserto durante quarenta anos, até que passou toda a geração daqueles que lhe tinham desagradado com seu mau procedimento.

14 ` And lo, ye have risen in the stead of your fathers, an increase of men -- sinners, to add yet to the fury of the anger of Jehovah toward Israel;

“E aí estão vocês, raça de pecadores, pondo-se no lugar dos seus antepassados e acendendo ainda mais a ira do Senhor contra Israel.

15 w hen ye turn back from after Him, then He hath added yet to leave him in the wilderness, and ye have done corruptly to all this people.'

Se deixarem de segui-lo, de novo ele os abandonará no deserto, e vocês serão o motivo da destruição de todo este povo”.

16 A nd they come nigh unto him, and say, `Folds for the flock we build for our cattle here, and cities for our infants;

Então se aproximaram de Moisés e disseram: “Gostaríamos de construir aqui currais para o nosso gado e cidades para as nossas mulheres e para os nossos filhos.

17 a nd we -- we are armed hasting before the sons of Israel till that we have brought them in unto their place; and our infants have dwelt in the cities of defence because of the inhabitants of the land;

Mas nós nos armaremos e estaremos prontos para ir à frente dos israelitas até que os tenhamos levado ao seu lugar. Enquanto isso, nossas mulheres e nossos filhos morarão em cidades fortificadas para se protegerem dos habitantes da terra.

18 w e do not turn back unto our houses till the sons of Israel have inherited each his inheritance,

Não retornaremos aos nossos lares enquanto todos os israelitas não receberem a sua herança.

19 f or we do not inherit with them beyond the Jordan and yonder, for our inheritance hath come unto us beyond the Jordan at the -rising.'

Não receberemos herança alguma com eles do outro lado do Jordão, uma vez que a nossa herança nos seja dada no lado leste do Jordão”.

20 A nd Moses saith unto them, `If ye do this thing: if ye are armed before Jehovah for battle,

Disse-lhes Moisés: “Se fizerem isso, se perante o Senhor vocês se armarem para a guerra,

21 a nd every armed one of you hath passed over the Jordan before Jehovah, till his dispossessing His enemies from before Him,

e se, armados, todos vocês atravessarem o Jordão perante o Senhor até que ele tenha expulsado os seus inimigos da frente dele,

22 a nd the land hath been subdued before Jehovah -- then afterwards ye do turn back, and have been acquitted by Jehovah, and by Israel; and this land hath been to you for a possession before Jehovah.

então, quando a terra estiver subjugada perante o Senhor, vocês poderão voltar e estarão livres da sua obrigação para com o Senhor e para com Israel. E esta terra será propriedade de vocês perante o Senhor.

23 ` And if ye do not so, lo, ye have sinned against Jehovah, and know ye your sin, that it doth find you;

“Mas, se vocês não fizerem isso, estarão pecando contra o Senhor; e estejam certos de que vocês não escaparão do pecado cometido.

24 b uild for yourselves cities for your infants, and folds for your flock, and that which is going out from your mouth do ye.'

Construam cidades para as suas mulheres e crianças, e currais para os seus rebanhos, mas façam o que vocês prometeram”.

25 A nd the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben speak unto Moses, saying, `Thy servants do as my lord is commanding;

Então os homens de Gade e de Rúben disseram a Moisés: “Nós, seus servos, faremos como o meu senhor ordena.

26 o ur infants, our wives, our cattle, and all our beasts, are there in cities of Gilead,

Nossos filhos e nossas mulheres, e todos os nossos rebanhos ficarão aqui nas cidades de Gileade.

27 a nd thy servants pass over, every armed one of the host, before Jehovah, to battle, as my lord is saying.'

Mas os seus servos, todos os homens armados para a batalha, atravessarão para lutar perante o Senhor, como o meu senhor está dizendo”.

28 A nd Moses commandeth concerning them Eleazar the priest, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel;

Moisés deu as seguintes instruções acerca deles ao sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué, filho de Num, e aos chefes de família das tribos israelitas:

29 a nd Moses saith unto them, `If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben pass over with you the Jordan, every one armed for battle, before Jehovah, and the land hath been subdued before you, then ye have given to them the land of Gilead for a possession;

“Se os homens de Gade e de Rúben, todos eles armados para a batalha, atravessarem o Jordão com vocês perante o Senhor, então, quando a terra for subjugada perante vocês, entreguem-lhes como propriedade a terra de Gileade.

30 a nd if they do not pass over armed with you, then they have possessions in your midst in the land of Canaan.'

Mas, se não atravessarem armados com vocês, terão que aceitar a propriedade deles com vocês em Canaã”.

31 A nd the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answer, saying, `That which Jehovah hath spoken unto thy servants -- so we do;

Os homens de Gade e de Rúben responderam: “Os seus servos farão o que o Senhor disse.

32 w e -- we pass over armed before Jehovah the land of Canaan, and with us the possession of our inheritance beyond the Jordan.'

Atravessaremos o Jordão perante o Senhor e entraremos armados em Canaã, mas a propriedade que receberemos como herança estará deste lado do Jordão”.

33 A nd Moses giveth to them, to the sons of Gad, and to the sons of Reuben, and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land by its cities, in the borders, the cities of the land round about.

Então Moisés deu às tribos de Gade e de Rúben e à metade da tribo de Manassés, filho de José, o reino de Seom, rei dos amorreus, e o reino de Ogue, rei de Basã, toda a terra com as suas cidades e o território ao redor delas.

34 A nd the sons of Gad build Dihon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

A tribo de Gade construiu Dibom, Atarote, Aroer,

35 a nd Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,

Atarote-Sofã, Jazar, Jogbeá,

36 a nd Beth-Nimrah, and Beth-Haran, cities of defence, and sheepfolds.

Bete-Ninra e Bete-Harã como cidades fortificadas, e fez currais para os seus rebanhos.

37 A nd the sons of Reuben have build Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,

E a tribo de Rúben reconstruiu Hesbom, Eleale e Quiriataim,

38 a nd Nebo, and Baal-Meon (changed in name), and Shibmah, and they call by names the names of the cities which they have built.

bem como Nebo e Baal-Meom (esses nomes foram mudados) e Sibma. E deu outros nomes a essas cidades.

39 A nd sons of Machir son of Manasseh go to Gilead, and capture it, and dispossess the Amorite, who in it;

Os descendentes de Maquir, filho de Manassés, foram a Gileade, tomaram posse dela e expulsaram os amorreus que lá estavam.

40 a nd Moses giveth Gilead to Machir son of Manasseh, and he dwelleth in it.

Então Moisés deu Gileade aos maquiritas, descendentes de Manassés, e eles passaram a habitar ali.

41 A nd Jair son of Manasseh hath gone and captureth their towns, and calleth them `Towns of Jair;'

Jair, descendente de Manassés, conquistou os povoados deles e os chamou Havote-Jair.

42 a nd Nobah hath gone and captureth Kenath, and its villages, and calleth it Nobah, by his own name.

E Noba conquistou Quenate e os seus povoados e a chamou Noba, dando-lhe seu próprio nome.
