1 A nd Samuel dieth, and all Israel are gathered, and mourn for him, and bury him in his house, in Ramah; and David riseth and goeth down unto the wilderness of Paran.

2 A nd a man in Maon, and his work in Carmel; and the man very great, and he hath three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats; and he is shearing his flock in Carmel.

Certo homem de Maom, que tinha seus bens na cidade de Carmelo, era muito rico. Possuía mil cabras e três mil ovelhas, as quais estavam sendo tosquiadas em Carmelo.

3 A nd the name of the man Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail, and the woman of good understanding, and of fair form, and the man hard and evil doings; and he a Calebite.

Seu nome era Nabal e o nome de sua mulher era Abigail, mulher inteligente e bonita; mas seu marido, descendente de Calebe, era rude e mau.

4 A nd David heareth in the wilderness that Nabal is shearing his flock,

No deserto, Davi ficou sabendo que Nabal estava tosquiando as ovelhas.

5 a nd David sendeth ten young men, and David saith to the young men, `Go ye up to Carmel, and ye have come in unto Nabal, and asked of him in my name of welfare,

Por isso, enviou dez rapazes, dizendo-lhes: “Levem minha mensagem a Nabal, em Carmelo, e cumprimentem-no em meu nome.

6 a nd said thus: To life! and thou, peace; and thy house, peace; and all that thou hast -- peace!

Digam-lhe: Longa vida para o senhor! Muita paz para o senhor e sua família! E muita prosperidade para tudo o que é seu!

7 a nd, now, I have heard that thou hast shearers; now, the shepherds whom thou hast have been with us, we have not put them to shame, nor hath anything been looked after by them, all the days of their being in Carmel.

“Sei que você está tosquiando suas ovelhas. Quando os seus pastores estavam conosco, nós não os maltratamos, e durante todo o tempo em que estiveram em Carmelo não se perdeu nada que fosse deles.

8 ` Ask thy young men, and they declare to thee, and the young men find grace in thine eyes, for on a good day we have come; give, I pray thee, that which thy hand findeth, to thy servants, and to thy son, to David.'

Pergunte a eles, e eles lhe dirão. Por isso, seja favorável, pois estamos vindo em época de festa. Por favor, dê a nós, seus servos, e a seu filho Davi o que puder”.

9 A nd the young men of David come in, and speak unto Nabal according to all these words, in the name of David -- and rest.

Os rapazes foram e deram a Nabal essa mensagem, em nome de Davi. E ficaram esperando.

10 A nd Nabal answereth the servants of David and saith, `Who David, and who the son of Jesse? to-day have servants been multiplied who are breaking away each from his master;

Nabal respondeu então aos servos de Davi: “Quem é Davi? Quem é esse filho de Jessé? Hoje em dia muitos servos estão fugindo de seus senhores.

11 a nd I have taken my bread, and my water, and my flesh, which I slaughtered for my shearers, and have given to men whom I have not known whence they!'

Por que deveria eu pegar meu pão e minha água, e a carne do gado que abati para meus tosquiadores, e dá-los a homens que vêm não se sabe de onde?”

12 A nd the young men of David turn on their way, and turn back, and come in, and declare to him according to all these words.

Então, os mensageiros de Davi voltaram e lhe relataram cada uma dessas palavras.

13 A nd David saith to his men, `Gird ye on each his sword;' and they gird on each his sword, and David also girdeth on his sword, and there go up after David about four hundred men, and two hundred have remained by the vessels.

Davi ordenou a seus homens: “Ponham suas espadas na cintura!” Assim eles fizeram e também Davi. Cerca de quatrocentos homens acompanharam Davi, enquanto duzentos permaneceram com a bagagem.

14 A nd to Abigail wife of Nabal hath one young man of the youths declared, saying, `Lo, David hath sent messengers out of the wilderness to bless our lord, and he flieth upon them;

Um dos servos disse a Abigail, mulher de Nabal: “Do deserto, Davi enviou mensageiros para saudar o nosso senhor, mas ele os insultou.

15 a nd the men very good to us, and have not put us to shame, and we have not looked after anything all the days we have gone up and down with them, in our being in the field;

No entanto, aqueles homens foram muito bons para conosco. Não nos maltrataram, e, durante todo o tempo em que estivemos com eles nos campos, nada perdemos.

16 a wall they have been unto us both by night and by day, all the days of our being with them, feeding the flock.

Dia e noite eles eram como um muro ao nosso redor, durante todo o tempo em que estivemos com eles cuidando de nossas ovelhas.

17 ` And, now, know and consider what thou dost; for evil hath been determined against our lord, and against all his house, and he too much a son of worthlessness to be spoken to.'

Agora, leve isso em consideração e veja o que a senhora pode fazer, pois a destruição paira sobre o nosso senhor e sobre toda a sua família. Ele é um homem tão mau que ninguém consegue conversar com ele”.

18 A nd Abigail hasteth, and taketh two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep, prepared, and five measures of roasted corn, and a hundred bunches of raisins, and two hundred bunches of figs, and setteth on the asses.

Imediatamente, Abigail pegou duzentos pães, duas vasilhas de couro cheias de vinho, cinco ovelhas preparadas, cinco medidas de grãos torrados, cem bolos de uvas passas e duzentos bolos de figos prensados, e os carregou em jumentos.

19 A nd she saith to her young men, `Pass over before me; lo, after you I am coming;' and to her husband Nabal she hath not declared;

E disse a seus servos: “Vocês vão na frente; eu os seguirei”. Ela, porém, nada disse a Nabal, seu marido.

20 a nd it hath come to pass, she is riding on the ass and is coming down in the secret part of the hill-country, and lo, David and his men are coming down to meet her, and she meeteth them.

Enquanto ela ia montada num jumento, encoberta pela montanha, Davi e seus soldados estavam descendo em sua direção, e ela os encontrou.

21 A nd David said, `Only, in vain I have kept all that this hath in the wilderness, and nothing hath been looked after of all that he hath, and he turneth back to me evil for good;

Davi tinha dito: “De nada adiantou proteger os bens daquele homem no deserto, para que nada se perdesse. Ele me pagou o bem com o mal.

22 t hus doth God do to the enemies of David, and thus He doth add, if I leave of all that he hath till the light of the morning -- of those sitting on the wall.'

Que Deus castigue Davi, e o faça com muita severidade, caso até de manhã eu deixe vivo um só do sexo masculino de todos os que pertencem a Nabal!”

23 A nd Abigail seeth David, and hasteth and cometh down from off the ass, and falleth before David on her face, and boweth herself to the earth,

Quando Abigail viu Davi, desceu depressa do jumento e prostrou-se perante Davi, rosto em terra.

24 a nd falleth at his feet and saith, `On me, my lord, the iniquity; and let, I pray thee, thy handmaid speak in thine ear, and hear the words of thy handmaid.

Ela caiu a seus pés e disse: “Meu senhor, a culpa é toda minha. Por favor, permite que tua serva te fale; ouve o que ela tem a dizer.

25 ` Let not, I pray thee, my lord set his heart to this man of worthlessness, on Nabal, for as his name so he; Nabal his name, and folly with him; and I, thine handmaid, did not see the young men of my lord whom thou didst send;

Meu senhor, não dês atenção àquele homem mau, Nabal. Ele é insensato, conforme o significado do seu nome; e a insensatez o acompanha. Contudo, eu, tua serva, não vi os rapazes que meu senhor enviou.

26 a nd now, my lord, Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, in that Jehovah hath withheld thee from coming in with blood, and to save thy hand to thee -- now let thine enemies be as Nabal, even those seeking evil unto my lord.

“Agora, meu senhor, juro pelo nome do Senhor e por tua vida que foi o Senhor que te impediu de derramar sangue e de te vingares com tuas próprias mãos. Que teus inimigos e todos os que pretendem fazer-te mal sejam castigados como Nabal.

27 ` And, now, this blessing which thy maid-servant hath brought to my lord -- it hath been given to the young men who are going up and down at the feet of my lord.

E que este presente que esta tua serva trouxe ao meu senhor seja dado aos homens que te seguem.

28 ` Bear, I pray thee, with the transgression of thy handmaid, for Jehovah doth certainly make to my lord a stedfast house; for the battles of Jehovah hath my lord fought, and evil is not found in thee thy days.

Esquece, eu te suplico, a ofensa de tua serva, pois o Senhor certamente fará um reino duradouro para ti, que travas os combates do Senhor. E em toda a tua vida, nenhuma culpa se ache em ti.

29 A nd man riseth to pursue thee and to seek thy soul, and the soul of my lord hath been bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah thy God; as to the soul of thine enemies, He doth sling them out in the midst of the hollow of the sling.

Mesmo que alguém te persiga para tirar-te a vida, a vida de meu senhor estará firmemente segura como a dos que são protegidos pelo Senhor, o teu Deus. Mas a vida de teus inimigos será atirada para longe como por uma atiradeira.

30 ` And it hath been, when Jehovah doth to my lord according to all the good which He hath spoken concerning thee, and appointed thee for leader over Israel,

Quando o Senhor tiver feito a meu senhor todo o bem que prometeu e te tiver nomeado líder sobre Israel,

31 t hat this is not to thee for a stumbling-block, and for an offence of heart to my lord -- either to shed blood for nought, or my lord's restraining himself; and Jehovah hath done good to my lord, and thou hast remembered thy handmaid.'

meu senhor não terá no coração o peso de ter derramado sangue desnecessariamente, nem de ter feito justiça com tuas próprias mãos. E, quando o Senhor tiver abençoado a ti, lembra-te de tua serva”.

32 A nd David saith to Abigail, `Blessed Jehovah, God of Israel, who hath sent thee this day to meet me,

Davi disse a Abigail: “Bendito seja o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, que hoje a enviou ao meu encontro.

33 a nd blessed thy discretion, and blessed thou in that thou hast restrained me this day from coming in with blood, and to restrain my hand to myself.

Seja você abençoada pelo seu bom senso e por evitar que eu hoje derrame sangue e me vingue com minhas próprias mãos.

34 A nd yet, Jehovah liveth, God of Israel, who hath kept me back from doing evil with thee, for unless thou hadst hasted, and dost come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal till the light of the morning, of those sitting on the wall.'

De outro modo, juro pelo nome do Senhor, o Deus de Israel, que evitou que eu lhe fizesse mal, que, se você não tivesse vindo depressa encontrar-me, nem um só do sexo masculino pertencente a Nabal teria sido deixado vivo ao romper do dia”.

35 A nd David receiveth from her hand that which she hath brought to him, and to her he hath said, `Go up in peace to thy house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and accept thy face.'

Então Davi aceitou o que Abigail lhe tinha trazido e disse: “Vá para sua casa em paz. Ouvi o que você disse e atenderei o seu pedido”.

36 A nd Abigail cometh in unto Nabal, and lo, he hath a banquet in his house, like a banquet of the king, and the heart of Nabal glad within him, and he drunk unto excess, and she hath not declared to him anything, less or more, till the light of the morning.

Quando Abigail retornou a Nabal, ele estava dando um banquete em casa, como um banquete de rei. Ele estava alegre e bastante bêbado, e ela nada lhe falou até o amanhecer.

37 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, when the wine is gone out from Nabal, that his wife declareth to him these things, and his heart dieth within him, and he hath been as a stone.

De manhã, quando Nabal estava sóbrio, sua mulher lhe contou tudo; ele sofreu um ataque e ficou paralisado como uma pedra.

38 A nd it cometh to pass, about ten days, that Jehovah smiteth Nabal, and he dieth,

Cerca de dez dias depois, o Senhor feriu Nabal, e ele morreu.

39 a nd David heareth that Nabal dead, and saith, `Blessed Jehovah who hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and His servant hath kept back from evil, and the wickedness of Nabal hath Jehovah turned back on his own head;' and David sendeth and speaketh with Abigail, to take her to him for a wife.

Quando Davi soube que Nabal estava morto, disse: “Bendito seja o Senhor, que defendeu a minha causa contra Nabal, por ter me tratado com desprezo. O Senhor impediu seu servo de praticar o mal e fez com que a maldade de Nabal caísse sobre a sua própria cabeça”. Então Davi enviou uma mensagem a Abigail, pedindo-lhe que se tornasse sua mulher.

40 A nd the servants of David come in unto Abigail at Carmel, and speak unto her, saying, `David hath sent us unto thee to take thee to him for a wife.'

Seus servos foram a Carmelo e disseram a Abigail: “Davi nos mandou buscá-la para que seja sua mulher”.

41 A nd she riseth and boweth herself -- face to the earth -- and saith, `Lo, thy handmaid for a maid-servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.'

Ela se levantou, inclinou-se, rosto em terra, e disse: “Aqui está a sua serva, pronta para servi-los e lavar os pés dos servos de meu senhor”.

42 A nd Abigail hasteth and riseth, and rideth on the ass; and five of her young women who are going at her feet; and she goeth after the messengers of David, and is to him for a wife.

Abigail logo montou num jumento e, acompanhada por suas cinco servas, foi com os mensageiros de Davi e tornou-se sua mulher.

43 A nd Ahinoam hath David taken from Jezreel, and they are -- even both of them -- to him for wives;

Davi também casou-se com Ainoã, de Jezreel; as duas foram suas mulheres.

44 a nd Saul gave Michal his daughter, wife to David, to Phalti son of Laish, who of Gallim.

Saul, porém, tinha dado sua filha Mical, mulher de Davi, a Paltiel, filho de Laís, de Galim.
