1 A nd Samuel dieth, and all Israel are gathered, and mourn for him, and bury him in his house, in Ramah; and David riseth and goeth down unto the wilderness of Paran.

2 A nd a man in Maon, and his work in Carmel; and the man very great, and he hath three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats; and he is shearing his flock in Carmel.

Y había un hombre en Maón que tenía sus bienes en Carmel; el hombre era muy rico y tenía tres mil ovejas y mil cabras; y estaba en Carmel trasquilando sus ovejas.

3 A nd the name of the man Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail, and the woman of good understanding, and of fair form, and the man hard and evil doings; and he a Calebite.

El hombre se llamaba Nabal, y su mujer se llamaba Abigail. Y la mujer era inteligente y de hermosa apariencia, pero el hombre era áspero y malo en sus tratos, y era calebita.

4 A nd David heareth in the wilderness that Nabal is shearing his flock,

Y oyó David en el desierto que Nabal estaba trasquilando sus ovejas.

5 a nd David sendeth ten young men, and David saith to the young men, `Go ye up to Carmel, and ye have come in unto Nabal, and asked of him in my name of welfare,

Entonces David envió diez jóvenes, y les dijo: Subid a Carmel, visitad a Nabal y saludadle en mi nombre;

6 a nd said thus: To life! and thou, peace; and thy house, peace; and all that thou hast -- peace!

y le diréis así: “Ten una larga vida, paz para ti, paz para tu casa y paz para todo lo que tienes.

7 a nd, now, I have heard that thou hast shearers; now, the shepherds whom thou hast have been with us, we have not put them to shame, nor hath anything been looked after by them, all the days of their being in Carmel.

“He oído que tienes esquiladores; ahora bien, tus pastores han estado con nosotros, y no los hemos maltratado, ni les ha faltado nada todos los días que estuvieron en Carmel.

8 ` Ask thy young men, and they declare to thee, and the young men find grace in thine eyes, for on a good day we have come; give, I pray thee, that which thy hand findeth, to thy servants, and to thy son, to David.'

“Pregunta a tus mozos, y ellos te lo dirán. Por tanto, permite que mis mozos hallen gracia ante tus ojos, porque hemos llegado en un día de fiesta. Te ruego que de lo que tengas a mano, des a tus siervos y a tu hijo David.”

9 A nd the young men of David come in, and speak unto Nabal according to all these words, in the name of David -- and rest.

Cuando llegaron los jóvenes de David, dijeron a Nabal todas estas palabras en nombre de David; entonces esperaron.

10 A nd Nabal answereth the servants of David and saith, `Who David, and who the son of Jesse? to-day have servants been multiplied who are breaking away each from his master;

Pero Nabal respondió a los siervos de David, y dijo: ¿Quién es David y quién es el hijo de Isaí? Hay muchos siervos hoy día que huyen de su señor.

11 a nd I have taken my bread, and my water, and my flesh, which I slaughtered for my shearers, and have given to men whom I have not known whence they!'

¿He de tomar mi pan, mi agua y la carne que he preparado para mis esquiladores, y he de dárselos a hombres cuyo origen no conozco ?

12 A nd the young men of David turn on their way, and turn back, and come in, and declare to him according to all these words.

Entonces los jóvenes de David se volvieron por su camino, y regresaron; y llegaron y le comunicaron todas estas palabras.

13 A nd David saith to his men, `Gird ye on each his sword;' and they gird on each his sword, and David also girdeth on his sword, and there go up after David about four hundred men, and two hundred have remained by the vessels.

Y David dijo a sus hombres: Cíñase cada uno su espada. Y cada hombre se ciñó su espada. David también se ciñó su espada, y unos cuatrocientos hombres subieron tras David, mientras que doscientos se quedaron con el bagaje.

14 A nd to Abigail wife of Nabal hath one young man of the youths declared, saying, `Lo, David hath sent messengers out of the wilderness to bless our lord, and he flieth upon them;

Mas uno de los mozos avisó a Abigail, mujer de Nabal, diciendo: He aquí, David envió mensajeros desde el desierto a saludar a nuestro señor, y él los desdeñó.

15 a nd the men very good to us, and have not put us to shame, and we have not looked after anything all the days we have gone up and down with them, in our being in the field;

Sin embargo, los hombres fueron muy buenos con nosotros; no nos maltrataron ni nos faltó nada cuando andábamos con ellos, mientras estábamos en el campo.

16 a wall they have been unto us both by night and by day, all the days of our being with them, feeding the flock.

Como muro fueron para nosotros tanto de noche como de día, todo el tiempo que estuvimos con ellos apacentando las ovejas.

17 ` And, now, know and consider what thou dost; for evil hath been determined against our lord, and against all his house, and he too much a son of worthlessness to be spoken to.'

Ahora pues, reflexiona y mira lo que has de hacer, porque el mal ya está determinado contra nuestro señor y contra toda su casa, y él es un hombre tan indigno que nadie puede hablarle.

18 A nd Abigail hasteth, and taketh two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep, prepared, and five measures of roasted corn, and a hundred bunches of raisins, and two hundred bunches of figs, and setteth on the asses.

Entonces Abigail se dio prisa y tomó doscientos panes, dos odres de vino, cinco ovejas ya preparadas, cinco medidas de grano tostado, cien racimos de uvas pasas, y doscientas tortas de higos, y los puso sobre asnos.

19 A nd she saith to her young men, `Pass over before me; lo, after you I am coming;' and to her husband Nabal she hath not declared;

Y dijo a sus mozos: Id delante de mí; he aquí, yo os seguiré. Pero nada dijo a su marido Nabal.

20 a nd it hath come to pass, she is riding on the ass and is coming down in the secret part of the hill-country, and lo, David and his men are coming down to meet her, and she meeteth them.

Y sucedió que cuando ella cabalgaba en su asno y descendía por la parte encubierta del monte, he aquí que David y sus hombres venían bajando hacia ella, y se encontró con ellos.

21 A nd David said, `Only, in vain I have kept all that this hath in the wilderness, and nothing hath been looked after of all that he hath, and he turneth back to me evil for good;

Y David había dicho: Ciertamente, en vano he guardado todo lo que este hombre tiene en el desierto, de modo que nada se perdió de todo lo suyo; y él me ha devuelto mal por bien.

22 t hus doth God do to the enemies of David, and thus He doth add, if I leave of all that he hath till the light of the morning -- of those sitting on the wall.'

Así haga Dios a los enemigos de David, y aun más, si al llegar la mañana he dejado tan sólo un varón de los suyos.

23 A nd Abigail seeth David, and hasteth and cometh down from off the ass, and falleth before David on her face, and boweth herself to the earth,

Cuando Abigail vio a David se dio prisa y bajó de su asno, y cayendo sobre su rostro delante de David, se postró en tierra.

24 a nd falleth at his feet and saith, `On me, my lord, the iniquity; and let, I pray thee, thy handmaid speak in thine ear, and hear the words of thy handmaid.

Y se echó a sus pies y dijo: Señor mío, sólo sobre mí sea la culpa. Te ruego que permitas que tu sierva te hable, y que escuches las palabras de tu sierva.

25 ` Let not, I pray thee, my lord set his heart to this man of worthlessness, on Nabal, for as his name so he; Nabal his name, and folly with him; and I, thine handmaid, did not see the young men of my lord whom thou didst send;

Ruego a mi señor que no haga caso a este hombre indigno, Nabal, porque conforme a su nombre, así es. Se llama Nabal, y la insensatez está con él; mas yo tu sierva no vi a los jóvenes que tú, mi señor, enviaste.

26 a nd now, my lord, Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, in that Jehovah hath withheld thee from coming in with blood, and to save thy hand to thee -- now let thine enemies be as Nabal, even those seeking evil unto my lord.

Ahora pues, señor mío, vive el Señor y vive tu alma; puesto que el Señor te ha impedido derramar sangre y vengarte por tu propia mano, sean pues como Nabal tus enemigos y los que buscan el mal contra mi señor.

27 ` And, now, this blessing which thy maid-servant hath brought to my lord -- it hath been given to the young men who are going up and down at the feet of my lord.

Y ahora permite que este presente que tu sierva ha traído para mi señor se dé a los jóvenes que acompañan a mi señor.

28 ` Bear, I pray thee, with the transgression of thy handmaid, for Jehovah doth certainly make to my lord a stedfast house; for the battles of Jehovah hath my lord fought, and evil is not found in thee thy days.

Te ruego que perdones la ofensa de tu sierva, porque el Señor ciertamente establecerá una casa duradera para mi señor, pues mi señor pelea las batallas del Señor, y el mal no se hallará en ti en todos tus días.

29 A nd man riseth to pursue thee and to seek thy soul, and the soul of my lord hath been bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah thy God; as to the soul of thine enemies, He doth sling them out in the midst of the hollow of the sling.

Y si alguno se levanta para perseguirte y buscar tu vida, entonces la vida de mi señor será ligada en el haz de los que viven con el Señor tu Dios; pero El lanzará la vida de tus enemigos como de en medio de una honda.

30 ` And it hath been, when Jehovah doth to my lord according to all the good which He hath spoken concerning thee, and appointed thee for leader over Israel,

Y sucederá que cuando el Señor haga por mi señor conforme a todo el bien que El ha hablado de ti, y te ponga por príncipe sobre Israel,

31 t hat this is not to thee for a stumbling-block, and for an offence of heart to my lord -- either to shed blood for nought, or my lord's restraining himself; and Jehovah hath done good to my lord, and thou hast remembered thy handmaid.'

esto no causará pesar ni remordimiento a mi señor, tanto por haber derramado sangre sin causa como por haberse vengado mi señor. Cuando el Señor haya hecho bien a mi señor, entonces acuérdate de tu sierva.

32 A nd David saith to Abigail, `Blessed Jehovah, God of Israel, who hath sent thee this day to meet me,

Entonces David dijo a Abigail: Bendito sea el Señor, Dios de Israel, que te envió hoy a encontrarme,

33 a nd blessed thy discretion, and blessed thou in that thou hast restrained me this day from coming in with blood, and to restrain my hand to myself.

bendito sea tu razonamiento, y bendita seas tú, que me has impedido hoy derramar sangre y vengarme por mi propia mano.

34 A nd yet, Jehovah liveth, God of Israel, who hath kept me back from doing evil with thee, for unless thou hadst hasted, and dost come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal till the light of the morning, of those sitting on the wall.'

Sin embargo, vive el Señor, Dios de Israel, que me ha impedido hacerte mal, que si tú no hubieras venido pronto a encontrarme, ciertamente, para la luz del alba, no le hubiera quedado a Nabal ni un varón.

35 A nd David receiveth from her hand that which she hath brought to him, and to her he hath said, `Go up in peace to thy house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and accept thy face.'

Recibió David de su mano lo que ella había traído y le dijo: Sube en paz a tu casa. Mira, te he escuchado y te he concedido tu petición. Muerte de Nabal

36 A nd Abigail cometh in unto Nabal, and lo, he hath a banquet in his house, like a banquet of the king, and the heart of Nabal glad within him, and he drunk unto excess, and she hath not declared to him anything, less or more, till the light of the morning.

Entonces Abigail regresó a Nabal, y he aquí, él tenía un banquete en su casa, como el banquete de un rey. Y el corazón de Nabal estaba alegre, pues estaba muy ebrio, por lo cual ella no le comunicó nada hasta el amanecer.

37 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, when the wine is gone out from Nabal, that his wife declareth to him these things, and his heart dieth within him, and he hath been as a stone.

Pero sucedió que por la mañana, cuando se le pasó el vino a Nabal, su mujer le contó estas cosas, y su corazón se quedó como muerto dentro de él, y se puso como una piedra.

38 A nd it cometh to pass, about ten days, that Jehovah smiteth Nabal, and he dieth,

Y unos diez días después, sucedió que el Señor hirió a Nabal, y murió.

39 a nd David heareth that Nabal dead, and saith, `Blessed Jehovah who hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and His servant hath kept back from evil, and the wickedness of Nabal hath Jehovah turned back on his own head;' and David sendeth and speaketh with Abigail, to take her to him for a wife.

Cuando David supo que Nabal había muerto, dijo: Bendito sea el Señor, que ha defendido la causa de mi afrenta de manos de Nabal, y ha preservado a su siervo del mal. El Señor también ha devuelto la maldad de Nabal sobre su propia cabeza. Entonces David envió a hablar con Abigail, para tomarla para sí por mujer.

40 A nd the servants of David come in unto Abigail at Carmel, and speak unto her, saying, `David hath sent us unto thee to take thee to him for a wife.'

Y los siervos de David fueron a casa de Abigail en Carmel, y le hablaron diciendo: David nos ha enviado a ti, para tomarte para sí por mujer.

41 A nd she riseth and boweth herself -- face to the earth -- and saith, `Lo, thy handmaid for a maid-servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.'

Y ella se levantó y postrándose rostro en tierra, dijo: He aquí, vuestra sierva es una criada para lavar los pies de los siervos de mi señor.

42 A nd Abigail hasteth and riseth, and rideth on the ass; and five of her young women who are going at her feet; and she goeth after the messengers of David, and is to him for a wife.

Abigail se levantó apresuradamente, montó en un asno, y con sus cinco doncellas que la atendían siguió a los mensajeros de David, y fue su mujer.

43 A nd Ahinoam hath David taken from Jezreel, and they are -- even both of them -- to him for wives;

David había tomado también a Ahinoam de Jezreel, y ambas fueron mujeres suyas.

44 a nd Saul gave Michal his daughter, wife to David, to Phalti son of Laish, who of Gallim.

Pues Saúl había dado a su hija Mical, mujer de David, a Palti, hijo de Lais, que era de Galim.
