1 A n Instruction of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law, Incline your ear to sayings of my mouth.

Escucha, pueblo mío, mi enseñanza; inclinad vuestro oído a las palabras de mi boca.

2 I open with a simile my mouth, I bring forth hidden things of old,

En parábolas abriré mi boca; hablaré enigmas de la antigüedad,

3 T hat we have heard and do know, And our fathers have recounted to us.

que hemos oído y conocido, y que nuestros padres nos han contado.

4 W e do not hide from their sons, To a later generation recounting praises of Jehovah, And His strength, and His wonders that He hath done.

No lo ocultaremos a sus hijos, sino que contaremos a la generación venidera las alabanzas del Señor, su poder y las maravillas que hizo.

5 A nd He raiseth up a testimony in Jacob, And a law hath placed in Israel, That He commanded our fathers, To make them known to their sons.

Porque El estableció un testimonio en Jacob, y puso una ley en Israel, la cual ordenó a nuestros padres que enseñaran a sus hijos;

6 S o that a later generation doth know, Sons who are born, do rise and recount to their sons,

para que la generación venidera lo supiera, aun los hijos que habían de nacer; y éstos se levantaran y lo contaran a sus hijos,

7 A nd place in God their confidence, And forget not the doings of God, But keep His commands.

para que ellos pusieran su confianza en Dios, y no se olvidaran de las obras de Dios, sino que guardaran sus mandamientos;

8 A nd they are not like their fathers, A generation apostate and rebellious, A generation! it hath not prepared its heart, Nor stedfast with God its spirit.

y no fueran como sus padres, una generación porfiada y rebelde, generación que no preparó su corazón, y cuyo espíritu no fue fiel a Dios.

9 S ons of Ephraim -- armed bearers of bow, Have turned in a day of conflict.

Los hijos de Efraín eran arqueros bien equipados, pero volvieron las espaldas el día de la batalla.

10 T hey have not kept the covenant of God, And in His law they have refused to walk,

No guardaron el pacto de Dios, y rehusaron andar en su ley;

11 A nd they forget His doings, And His wonders that He shewed them.

olvidaron sus obras, y los milagros que les había mostrado.

12 B efore their fathers He hath done wonders, In the land of Egypt -- the field of Zoan.

El hizo maravillas en presencia de sus padres, en la tierra de Egipto, en el campo de Zoán.

13 H e cleft a sea, and causeth them to pass over, Yea, He causeth waters to stand as a heap.

Dividió el mar y los hizo pasar, y contuvo las aguas como en un montón.

14 A nd leadeth them with a cloud by day, And all the night with a light of fire.

Después los guió de día con la nube, y toda la noche con un resplandor de fuego.

15 H e cleaveth rocks in a wilderness, And giveth drink -- as the great deep.

Partió las rocas en el desierto, y les dio agua tan abundante como las profundidades del océano;

16 A nd bringeth out streams from a rock, And causeth waters to come down as rivers.

hizo salir corrientes de la peña, e hizo descender aguas como ríos.

17 A nd they add still to sin against Him, To provoke the Most High in the dry place.

Pero aún siguieron pecando contra El, rebelándose contra el Altísimo en el desierto.

18 A nd they try God in their heart, To ask food for their lust.

Y en sus corazones tentaron a Dios, pidiendo comida a su gusto.

19 A nd they speak against God -- they said: `Is God able to array a table in a wilderness?'

Hablaron contra Dios, y dijeron: ¿Podrá Dios preparar mesa en el desierto ?

20 L o, He hath smitten a rock, And waters flow, yea, streams overflow. `Also -- bread He able to give? Doth He prepare flesh for His people?'

He aquí, hirió la roca y brotaron aguas, y torrentes se desbordaron; ¿podrá también dar pan?, ¿proveerá carne para su pueblo ?

21 T herefore hath Jehovah heard, And He sheweth Himself wroth, And fire hath been kindled against Jacob, And anger also hath gone up against Israel,

Por tanto, al oírlo, el Señor se indignó; un fuego se encendió contra Jacob, y aumentó también la ira contra Israel,

22 F or they have not believed in God, Nor have they trusted in His salvation.

porque no creyeron en Dios, ni confiaron en su salvación.

23 A nd He commandeth clouds from above, Yea, doors of the heavens He hath opened.

Sin embargo, dio órdenes a las nubes arriba, y abrió las puertas de los cielos;

24 A nd He raineth on them manna to eat, Yea, corn of heaven He hath given to them.

hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer, y les dio comida del cielo.

25 F ood of the mighty hath each eaten, Venison He sent to them to satiety.

Pan de ángeles comió el hombre; Dios les mandó comida hasta saciarlos.

26 H e causeth an east wind to journey in the heavens, And leadeth by His strength a south wind,

Hizo soplar en el cielo el viento solano, y con su poder dirigió el viento del sur,

27 A nd He raineth on them flesh as dust, And as sand of the seas -- winged fowl,

El hizo llover sobre ellos carne como polvo, aladas aves como la arena de los mares,

28 A nd causeth to fall in the midst of His camp, Round about His tabernacles.

y las hizo caer en medio del campamento, alrededor de sus viviendas.

29 A nd they eat, and are greatly satisfied, And their desire He bringeth to them.

Comieron y quedaron bien saciados, y les concedió su deseo.

30 T hey have not been estranged from their desire, Yet their food in their mouth,

Antes de que hubieran satisfecho su deseo, mientras la comida aún estaba en su boca,

31 A nd the anger of God hath gone up against them, And He slayeth among their fat ones, And youths of Israel He caused to bend.

la ira de Dios se alzó contra ellos y mató a algunos de los más robustos, y subyugó a los escogidos de Israel.

32 W ith all this they have sinned again, And have not believed in His wonders.

A pesar de todo esto, todavía pecaron y no creyeron en sus maravillas.

33 A nd He consumeth in vanity their days, And their years in trouble.

El, pues, hizo terminar sus días en vanidad, y sus años en terror súbito.

34 I f He slew them, then they sought Him, And turned back, and sought God earnestly,

Cuando los hería de muerte, entonces le buscaban, y se volvían y buscaban con diligencia a Dios;

35 A nd they remember that God their rock, And God Most High their redeemer.

se acordaban de que Dios era su roca, y el Dios Altísimo su Redentor.

36 A nd -- they deceive Him with their mouth, And with their tongue do lie to Him,

Mas con su boca le engañaban, y con su lengua le mentían.

37 A nd their heart hath not been right with Him, And they have not been stedfast in His covenant.

Pues su corazón no era leal para con El, ni eran fieles a su pacto.

38 A nd He -- the Merciful One, Pardoneth iniquity, and destroyeth not, And hath often turned back His anger, And waketh not up all His fury.

Mas El, siendo compasivo, perdonaba sus iniquidades y no los destruía; muchas veces contuvo su ira, y no despertó todo su furor.

39 A nd He remembereth that they flesh, A wind going on -- and it returneth not.

Se acordaba de que ellos eran carne, un soplo que pasa y no vuelve.

40 H ow often do they provoke Him in the wilderness, Grieve Him in the desolate place?

¡Cuántas veces se rebelaron contra El en el desierto, y le entristecieron en las soledades!

41 Y ea, they turn back, and try God, And the Holy One of Israel have limited.

Tentaron a Dios una y otra vez, y afligieron al Santo de Israel.

42 T hey have not remembered His hand The day He ransomed them from the adversary.

No se acordaron de su poder, del día en que los redimió del adversario,

43 W hen He set His signs in Egypt, And His wonders in the field of Zoan,

cuando hizo sus señales en Egipto, y sus prodigios en el campo de Zoán.

44 A nd He turneth to blood their streams, And their floods they drink not.

Convirtió en sangre sus ríos y sus corrientes, y no pudieron beber.

45 H e sendeth among them the beetle, and it consumeth them, And the frog, and it destroyeth them,

Envió entre ellos enjambres de moscas que los devoraban, y ranas que los destruían.

46 A nd giveth to the caterpillar their increase, And their labour to the locust.

Entregó también sus cosechas al saltamontes, y el fruto de su trabajo a la langosta.

47 H e destroyeth with hail their vine, And their sycamores with frost,

Con granizo destruyó sus vides, y sus sicómoros con escarcha.

48 A nd delivereth up to the hail their beasts, And their cattle to the burning flames.

Entregó también al granizo sus ganados, y sus rebaños a los rayos.

49 H e sendeth on them the fury of His anger, Wrath, and indignation, and distress -- A discharge of evil messengers.

Envió sobre ellos el ardor de su ira, furia, indignación y angustia, un ejército de ángeles destructores.

50 H e pondereth a path for His anger, He kept not back their soul from death, Yea, their life to the pestilence He delivered up.

Preparó senda para su ira; no eximió sus almas de la muerte, sino que entregó sus vidas a la plaga,

51 A nd He smiteth every first-born in Egypt, The first-fruit of the strong in tents of Ham.

e hirió a todos los primogénitos en Egipto, las primicias de su virilidad en las tiendas de Cam.

52 A nd causeth His people to journey as a flock, And guideth them as a drove in a wilderness,

Mas a su pueblo lo sacó como a ovejas, como a rebaño los condujo en el desierto;

53 A nd He leadeth them confidently, And they have not been afraid, And their enemies hath the sea covered.

los guió con seguridad, de modo que no temieron, pero el mar se tragó a sus enemigos.

54 A nd He bringeth them in unto the border of His sanctuary, This mountain His right hand had got,

Los trajo, pues, a su tierra santa, a esta tierra montañosa que su diestra había adquirido.

55 A nd casteth out nations from before them, And causeth them to fall in the line of inheritance, And causeth the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents,

Y expulsó a las naciones de delante de ellos; las repartió con medida por herencia, e hizo habitar en sus tiendas a las tribus de Israel.

56 A nd they tempt and provoke God Most High, And His testimonies have not kept.

Empero ellos tentaron y provocaron al Dios Altísimo, y no guardaron sus testimonios,

57 A nd they turn back, And deal treacherously like their fathers, They have been turned like a deceitful bow,

sino que se volvieron atrás y fueron desleales como sus padres; se desviaron como arco engañoso.

58 A nd make Him angry with their high places, And with their graven images make Him zealous,

Pues le provocaron con sus lugares altos, y despertaron sus celos con sus imágenes talladas.

59 G od hath heard, and sheweth Himself wroth. And kicketh exceedingly against Israel.

Al oírlo Dios, se indignó, y aborreció a Israel en gran manera.

60 A nd He leaveth the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent He had placed among men,

Abandonó la morada en Silo, la tienda que había levantado entre los hombres,

61 A nd He giveth His strength to captivity, And His beauty into the hand of an adversary,

y entregó al cautiverio su poderío, y su gloria en manos del adversario.

62 A nd delivereth up to the sword His people, And with His inheritance shewed Himself angry.

Entregó también su pueblo a la espada, y se indignó contra su heredad.

63 H is young men hath fire consumed, And His virgins have not been praised.

El fuego consumió a sus jóvenes, y no tuvieron canciones de bodas sus doncellas.

64 H is priests by the sword have fallen, And their widows weep not.

Sus sacerdotes cayeron a espada, y sus viudas no pudieron llorar.

65 A nd the Lord waketh as a sleeper, As a mighty one crying aloud from wine.

Entonces despertó el Señor como de un sueño, como guerrero vencido por el vino,

66 A nd He smiteth His adversaries backward, A reproach age-during He hath put on them,

e hizo retroceder a sus adversarios, poniendo sobre ellos una afrenta perpetua.

67 A nd He kicketh against the tent of Joseph, And on the tribe of Ephraim hath not fixed.

Desechó también la tienda de José, y no escogió a la tribu de Efraín,

68 A nd He chooseth the tribe of Judah, With mount Zion that He loved,

sino que escogió a la tribu de Judá, al monte Sion que El amaba.

69 A nd buildeth His sanctuary as a high place, Like the earth, He founded it to the age.

Y edificó su santuario como las alturas, como la tierra que ha fundado para siempre.

70 A nd He fixeth on David His servant, And taketh him from the folds of a flock,

Escogió también a David su siervo, lo tomó de entre los apriscos de las ovejas;

71 F rom behind suckling ones He hath brought him in, To rule over Jacob His people, And over Israel His inheritance.

lo trajo de cuidar las ovejas con sus corderitos, para pastorear a Jacob, su pueblo, y a Israel, su heredad.

72 A nd he ruleth them according to the integrity of his heart, And by the skilfulness of his hands leadeth them!

Y él los pastoreó según la integridad de su corazón, y los guió con la destreza de sus manos.
