1 A nd it cometh to pass, at Jehovah's taking up Elijah in a whirlwind to the heavens, that Elijah goeth, and Elisha, from Gilgal,

Y sucedió que cuando el Señor iba a llevarse a Elías al cielo en un torbellino, Elías venía de Gilgal con Eliseo.

2 a nd Elijah saith unto Elisha, `Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me unto Beth-El;' and Elisha saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they go down to Beth-El.

Y Elías dijo a Eliseo: Te ruego que te quedes aquí, porque el Señor me ha enviado hasta Betel. Pero Eliseo dijo: Vive el Señor y vive tu alma, que no me apartaré de ti. Y descendieron a Betel.

3 A nd sons of the prophets who in Beth-El come out unto Elisha, and say unto him, `Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, `I also have known -- keep silent.'

Entonces los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Betel salieron al encuentro de Eliseo y le dijeron: ¿Sabes que hoy el Señor te quitará a tu señor de sobre ti ? Y él dijo: Sí, yo lo sé; callad.

4 A nd Elijah saith to him, `Elisha, abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to Jericho;' and he saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they come in to Jericho.

Elías entonces le dijo: Eliseo, te ruego que te quedes aquí, porque el Señor me ha enviado a Jericó. Pero él dijo: Vive el Señor y vive tu alma, que no me apartaré de ti. Y fueron a Jericó.

5 A nd sons of the prophets who in Jericho come nigh unto Elisha, and say unto him, `Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, `I also have known -- keep silent.'

Y los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Jericó se acercaron a Eliseo y le dijeron: ¿Sabes que hoy el Señor te quitará a tu señor de sobre ti ? Y él respondió: Sí, yo lo sé; callad.

6 A nd Elijah saith to him, `Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to the Jordan;' and he saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they go on both of them,

Entonces Elías le dijo: Te ruego que te quedes aquí, porque el Señor me ha enviado al Jordán. Pero él dijo: Vive el Señor y vive tu alma, que no me apartaré de ti. Siguieron, pues, los dos.

7 - - and fifty men of the sons of the prophets have gone on, and stand over-against afar off -- and both of them have stood by the Jordan.

Y cincuenta hombres de los hijos de los profetas fueron y se pararon frente a ellos, a lo lejos, mientras ellos dos se pararon junto al Jordán.

8 A nd Elijah taketh his robe, and wrappeth together, and smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and they pass over both of them on dry land.

Entonces Elías tomó su manto, lo dobló y golpeó las aguas, y éstas se dividieron a uno y a otro lado, y los dos pasaron por tierra seca.

9 A nd it cometh to pass, at their passing over, that Elijah hath said unto Elisha, `Ask, what do I do for thee before I am taken from thee?' and Elisha saith, `Then let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit unto me;'

Y cuando habían pasado, Elías dijo a Eliseo: Pide lo que quieras que yo haga por ti antes de que yo sea separado de ti. Y Eliseo dijo: Te ruego que una doble porción de tu espíritu sea sobre mí.

10 a nd he saith, `Thou hast asked a hard thing; if thou dost see me taken from thee, it is to thee so; and if not, it is not.'

Y él dijo: Has pedido una cosa difícil. Sin embargo, si me ves cuando sea llevado de ti, así te sucederá; pero si no, no será así.

11 A nd it cometh to pass, they are going, going on and speaking, and lo, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and they separate between them both, and Elijah goeth up in a whirlwind, to the heavens.

Y aconteció que mientras ellos iban andando y hablando, he aquí, apareció un carro de fuego y caballos de fuego que separó a los dos. Y Elías subió al cielo en un torbellino.

12 A nd Elisha is seeing, and he is crying, `My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and its horsemen;' and he hath not seen him again; and he taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them into two pieces.

Lo vio Eliseo y clamó: Padre mío, padre mío, los carros de Israel y su gente de a caballo. Y no lo vio más. Entonces tomó sus vestidos y los rasgó en dos pedazos.

13 A nd he taketh up the robe of Elijah, that fell from off him, and turneth back and standeth on the edge of the Jordan,

También recogió el manto de Elías que se le había caído, y regresó y se paró a la orilla del Jordán.

14 a nd he taketh the robe of Elijah that fell from off him, and smiteth the waters, and saith, `Where Jehovah, God of Elijah -- even He?' and he smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and Elisha passeth over.

Y tomando el manto de Elías que se le había caído, golpeó las aguas, y dijo: ¿Dónde está el Señor, el Dios de Elías? Y cuando él golpeó también las aguas, éstas se dividieron a uno y a otro lado, y pasó Eliseo.

15 A nd they see him -- the sons of the prophets who in Jericho -- over-against, and they say, `Rested hath the spirit of Elijah on Elisha;' and they come to meet him, and bow themselves to him to the earth,

Cuando lo vieron los hijos de los profetas que estaban en Jericó frente a él, dijeron: El espíritu de Elías reposa sobre Eliseo. Y fueron a su encuentro y se postraron en tierra ante él.

16 a nd say unto him, `Lo, we pray thee, there are with thy servants fifty men, sons of valour: let them go, we pray thee, and they seek thy lord, lest the Spirit of Jehovah hath taken him up, and doth cast him on one of the hills, or into one of the valleys;' and he saith, `Ye do not send.'

Y le dijeron: He aquí, ahora hay con tus siervos cincuenta hombres fuertes; te rogamos que los dejes ir a buscar a tu señor; tal vez el Espíritu del Señor lo ha levantado y lo ha echado en algún monte o en algún valle. Y él dijo: No los enviéis.

17 A nd they press upon him, till he is ashamed, and he saith, `Send ye;' and they send fifty men, and they seek three days, and have not found him;

Pero cuando le insistieron hasta la saciedad, dijo: Enviad los. Entonces enviaron cincuenta hombres; y buscaron durante tres días, pero no lo hallaron.

18 a nd they turn back unto him -- and he is abiding in Jericho -- and he saith unto them, `Did I not say unto you, Do not go?'

Y volvieron a Eliseo que se había quedado en Jericó, y él les dijo: ¿No os dije: “No vayáis”?

19 A nd the men of the city say unto Elisha, `Lo, we pray thee, the site of the city good, as my lord seeth, and the waters bad, and the earth sterile.'

Entonces los hombres de la ciudad dijeron a Eliseo: He aquí, ahora el emplazamiento de esta ciudad es bueno, como mi señor ve, pero el agua es mala y la tierra estéril.

20 A nd he saith, `Bring to me a new dish, and place there salt;' and they bring unto him,

Y él dijo: Traedme una vasija nueva, y poned sal en ella. Y se la trajeron.

21 a nd he goeth out unto the source of the waters, and casteth there salt, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah, I have given healing to these waters; there is not thence any more death and sterility.'

Y él salió al manantial de las aguas, echó sal en él, y dijo: Así dice el Señor: “He purificado estas aguas; de allí no saldrá más muerte ni esterilidad.”

22 A nd the waters are healed unto this day, according to the word of Elisha, that he spake.

Y las aguas han quedado purificadas hasta hoy, conforme a la palabra que habló Eliseo.

23 A nd he goeth up thence to Beth-El, and he is going up in the way, and little youths have come out from the city, and scoff at him, and say to him, `Go up, bald-head! go up, bald-head!'

Después subió de allí a Betel; y mientras subía por el camino, unos muchachos salieron de la ciudad y se burlaban de él, y le decían: ¡Sube, calvo; sube, calvo!

24 A nd he looketh behind him, and seeth them, and declareth them vile in the name of Jehovah, and two bears come out of the forest, and rend of them forty and two lads.

Cuando él miró hacia atrás y los vio, los maldijo en el nombre del Señor. Entonces salieron dos osas del bosque y despedazaron de ellos a cuarenta y dos muchachos.

25 A nd he goeth thence unto the hill of Carmel, and thence he hath turned back to Samaria.

De allí fue al monte Carmelo, y desde allí regresó a Samaria.
