1 A nd Sarai, Abram's wife, hath not borne to him, and she hath an handmaid, an Egyptian, and her name Hagar;

Y Sarai, mujer de Abram, no le había dado a luz hijo alguno; y tenía ella una sierva egipcia que se llamaba Agar.

2 a nd Sarai saith unto Abram, `Lo, I pray thee, Jehovah hath restrained me from bearing, go in, I pray thee, unto my handmaid; perhaps I am built up from her;' and Abram hearkeneth to the voice of Sarai.

Entonces Sarai dijo a Abram: He aquí que el Señor me ha impedido tener hijos. Llégate, te ruego, a mi sierva; quizá por medio de ella yo tenga hijos. Y Abram escuchó la voz de Sarai.

3 A nd Sarai, Abram's wife, taketh Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, at the end of the tenth year of Abram's dwelling in the land of Canaan, and giveth her to Abram her husband, to him for a wife,

Y al cabo de diez años de habitar Abram en la tierra de Canaán, Sarai, mujer de Abram, tomó a su sierva Agar la egipcia, y se la dio a su marido Abram por mujer.

4 a nd he goeth in unto Hagar, and she conceiveth, and she seeth that she hath conceived, and her mistress is lightly esteemed in her eyes.

Y él se llegó a Agar, y ella concibió; y cuando ella vio que había concebido, miraba con desprecio a su señora.

5 A nd Sarai saith unto Abram, `My violence for thee; I -- I have given mine handmaid into thy bosom, and she seeth that she hath conceived, and I am lightly esteemed in her eyes; Jehovah doth judge between me and thee.'

Y Sarai dijo a Abram: Recaiga sobre ti mi agravio. Yo entregué a mi sierva en tus brazos; pero cuando ella vio que había concebido, me miró con desprecio. Juzgue el Señor entre tú y yo.

6 A nd Abram saith unto Sarai, `Lo, thine handmaid in thine hand, do to her that which is good in thine eyes;' and Sarai afflicted her, and she fleeth from her presence.

Pero Abram dijo a Sarai: Mira, tu sierva está bajo tu poder; haz con ella lo que mejor te parezca. Y Sarai la trató muy mal y ella huyó de su presencia. Nacimiento de Ismael

7 A nd a messenger of Jehovah findeth her by the fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way Shur,

Y el ángel del Señor la encontró junto a una fuente de agua en el desierto, junto a la fuente en el camino de Shur,

8 a nd he saith, `Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, whence hast thou come, and whither dost thou go?' and she saith, `From the presence of Sarai, my mistress, I am fleeing.'

y le dijo: Agar, sierva de Sarai, ¿de dónde has venido y a dónde vas ? Y ella le respondió: Huyo de la presencia de mi señora Sarai.

9 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith to her, `Turn back unto thy mistress, and humble thyself under her hands;'

Y el ángel del Señor le dijo: Vuelve a tu señora y sométete a su autoridad.

10 a nd the messenger of Jehovah saith to her, `Multiplying I multiply thy seed, and it is not numbered from multitude;'

El ángel del Señor añadió: Multiplicaré de tal manera tu descendencia que no se podrá contar por su multitud.

11 a nd the messenger of Jehovah saith to her, `Behold thou conceiving, and bearing a son, and hast called his name Ishmael, for Jehovah hath hearkened unto thine affliction;

El ángel del Señor le dijo además: He aquí, has concebido y darás a luz un hijo; y le llamarás Ismael, porque el Señor ha oído tu aflicción.

12 a nd he is a wild-ass man, his hand against every one, and every one's hand against him -- and before the face of all his brethren he dwelleth.'

Y él será hombre indómito como asno montés; su mano será contra todos, y la mano de todos contra él, y habitará al oriente de todos sus hermanos.

13 A nd she calleth the name of Jehovah who is speaking unto her, `Thou, O God, my beholder;' for she said, `Even here have I looked behind my beholder?'

Y Agar llamó el nombre del Señor que le había hablado: Tú eres un Dios que ve; porque dijo: ¿Estoy todavía con vida después de verle?

14 t herefore hath one called the well, `The well of the Living One, my beholder;' lo, between Kadesh and Bered.

Por eso se llamó a aquel pozo Beer-lajai-roi; he aquí, está entre Cades y Bered.

15 A nd Hagar beareth to Abram a son; and Abram calleth the name of his son, whom Hagar hath borne, Ishmael;

Y Agar le dio a luz un hijo a Abram; y Abram le puso el nombre de Ismael al hijo que Agar le había dado.

16 a nd Abram a son of eighty and six years in Hagar's bearing Ishmael to Abram.

Y Abram tenía ochenta y seis años cuando Agar le dio a luz a Ismael.
