1 A nd at Ezra's praying, and at his making confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there have been gathered unto him out of Israel an assembly very great -- men and women and children -- for the people have wept, multiplying weeping.

Mientras Esdras oraba y hacía confesión, llorando y postrándose delante de la casa de Dios, una gran asamblea de Israel, hombres, mujeres y niños se juntó a él; y el pueblo lloraba amargamente.

2 A nd Shechaniah son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, answereth and saith to Ezra, `We -- we have trespassed against our God, and we settle strange women of the peoples of the land; and now there is hope for Israel concerning this,

Y Secanías, hijo de Jehiel, uno de los hijos de Elam, respondió, y dijo a Esdras: Hemos sido infieles a nuestro Dios, y nos hemos casado con mujeres extranjeras de los pueblos de esta tierra; pero todavía hay esperanza para Israel a pesar de esto.

3 a nd now, let us make a covenant with our God, to cause all the women to go out, and that which is born of them, by the counsel of the Lord, and of those trembling at the command of our God, and according to law it is done;

Hagamos ahora un pacto con nuestro Dios de despedir a todas las mujeres y a sus hijos, conforme al consejo de mi señor y de los que tiemblan ante el mandamiento de nuestro Dios; y que sea hecho conforme a la ley.

4 r ise, for on thee the matter, and we with thee; be strong, and do.'

Levántate, porque este asunto es tu responsabilidad, pero estaremos contigo; anímate y haz lo.

5 A nd Ezra riseth, and causeth the heads of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear to do according to this word -- and they swear.

Esdras se levantó e hizo jurar a los principales sacerdotes, a los levitas y a todo Israel que harían conforme a esta propuesta; y ellos juraron.

6 A nd Ezra riseth from before the house of God, and goeth unto the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib; yea, he goeth there, bread he hath not eaten, and water he hath not drunk, for he is mourning because of the trespass of the removal.

Después se levantó Esdras de delante de la casa de Dios y entró a la cámara de Johanán, hijo de Eliasib. Aunque entró allí, no comió pan ni bebió agua, porque hacía duelo a causa de la infidelidad de los desterrados.

7 A nd they cause a voice to pass over into Judah and Jerusalem, to all sons of the removal, to be gathered to Jerusalem,

E hicieron una proclama en Judá y Jerusalén a todos los desterrados para que se reunieran en Jerusalén,

8 a nd every one who cometh not in by the third day, according to the counsel of the heads and of the elders, all his substance is devoted, and himself separated from the assembly of the removal.

y a cualquiera que no viniera dentro de tres días, conforme al consejo de los jefes y de los ancianos, le serían confiscadas todas sus posesiones y él mismo sería excluido de la asamblea de los desterrados.

9 A nd gathered are all the men of Judah and Benjamin to Jerusalem by the third day, it the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month, and all the people sit in the broad place of the house of God, trembling on account of the matter and of the showers.

Se reunieron, pues, todos los hombres de Judá y Benjamín en Jerusalén dentro de los tres días. Era el mes noveno, el día veinte del mes, y todo el pueblo se sentó en la plaza delante de la casa de Dios, temblando a causa de este asunto y de la intensa lluvia.

10 A nd Ezra the priest riseth, and saith unto them, `Ye -- ye have trespassed, and ye settle strange women, to add to the guilt of Israel;

Entonces se levantó el sacerdote Esdras y les dijo: Vosotros habéis sido infieles y os habéis casado con mujeres extranjeras añadiendo así a la culpa de Israel.

11 a nd, now, make confession to Jehovah, God of your fathers, and do His good pleasure, and be separated from the peoples of the land, and from the strange women.'

Ahora pues, confesad al Señor, Dios de vuestros padres, y haced su voluntad; separaos de los pueblos de esta tierra y de las mujeres extranjeras.

12 A nd all the assembly answer and say a great voice, `Right; according to thy word -- on us to do;

Y toda la asamblea respondió, y dijo a gran voz: ¡Está bien! Tal como has dicho es nuestro deber hacer.

13 b ut the people many, and the time of showers, and there is no power to stand without, and the work not for one day, nor for two, for we have multiplied to transgress in this thing.

Sólo que el pueblo es numeroso, y es la temporada de lluvia, y no podemos permanecer fuera. Tampoco se puede hacer todo en un solo día ni en dos, porque hemos pecado en gran manera en este asunto.

14 ` Let, we pray thee, our heads of all the assembly stand, and all who in our cities, who have settled strange wives, do come in at the times appointed, and with them the elders of city and city, and its judges, till the turning back of the fury of the wrath of our God from us, for this thing.'

Que nuestros jefes representen toda la asamblea y que todos aquellos en nuestras ciudades que se han casado con mujeres extranjeras vengan en tiempos señalados, junto con los ancianos y jueces de cada ciudad, hasta que la tremenda ira de nuestro Dios a causa de este asunto se aparte de nosotros.

15 O nly Jonathan son of Asahel, and Jahaziah son of Tikvah, stood against this, and Meshullam, and Shabbethai the Levite, helped them.

Solamente Jonatán, hijo de Asael, y Jahazías, hijo de Ticva, se opusieron a esto, con Mesulam y el levita Sabetai respaldándolos.

16 A nd the sons of the removal do so, and Ezra the priest, men, heads of the fathers, for the house of their fathers, are separated, even all of them by name, and they sit on the first day of the tenth month, to examine the matter;

Pero los desterrados sí lo hicieron. Y el sacerdote Esdras designó a hombres jefes de casas paternas por cada una de sus casas paternas, todos ellos por nombre. Y se reunieron el primer día del décimo mes para investigar el asunto.

17 a nd they finish with all the men who have settled strange women unto the first day of the first month.

Terminaron de investigar a todos los hombres que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras el primer día del mes primero.

18 A nd there are found of the sons of the priests that have settled strange women: of the sons of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah;

Entre los hijos de los sacerdotes que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras se encontraron, de los hijos de Jesúa, hijo de Josadac, y de sus hermanos: Maasías, Eliezer, Jarib y Gedalías.

19 a nd they give their hand to send out their wives, and, being guilty, a ram of the flock, for their guilt.

(Ellos juraron despedir a sus mujeres, y siendo culpables, ofrecieron un carnero del rebaño por su delito.)

20 A nd of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah;

21 a nd of the sons of Harim: Masseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah;

23 A nd of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah -- he Kelita, -- Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

24 A nd of the singers: Eliashib. And of the gatekeepers: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.

25 A nd of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchijah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

26 A nd of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.
