1 A nd when he completed all his sayings in the ears of the people, he went into Capernaum;

Cuando Jesús terminó todas sus palabras al pueblo que le oía, se fue a Capernaúm.

2 a nd a certain centurion's servant being ill, was about to die, who was much valued by him,

Y el siervo de cierto centurión, a quien éste apreciaba mucho, estaba enfermo y a punto de morir.

3 a nd having heard about Jesus, he sent unto him elders of the Jews, beseeching him, that having come he might thoroughly save his servant.

Al oír hablar de Jesús, el centurión envió a El unos ancianos de los judíos, pidiéndole que viniera y salvara a su siervo.

4 A nd they, having come near unto Jesus, were calling upon him earnestly, saying -- `He is worthy to whom thou shalt do this,

Cuando ellos llegaron a Jesús, le rogaron con insistencia, diciendo: El centurión es digno de que le concedas esto;

5 f or he doth love our nation, and the synagogue he did build to us.'

porque él ama a nuestro pueblo y fue él quien nos edificó la sinagoga.

6 A nd Jesus was going on with them, and now when he is not far distant from the house the centurion sent unto him friends, saying to him, `Sir, be not troubled, for I am not worthy that under my roof thou mayest enter;

Jesús iba con ellos, pero cuando ya no estaba lejos de la casa, el centurión envió a unos amigos, diciéndole: Señor, no te molestes más, porque no soy digno de que entres bajo mi techo;

7 w herefore not even myself thought I worthy to come unto thee, but say in a word, and my lad shall be healed;

por eso ni siquiera me consideré digno de ir a ti, tan sólo di la palabra y mi siervo será sanado.

8 f or I also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Be coming, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doth.'

Pues yo también soy hombre puesto bajo autoridad, y tengo soldados bajo mis órdenes; y digo a éste: “Ve”, y va; y a otro: “Ven”, y viene; y a mi siervo: “Haz esto”, y lo hace.

9 A nd having heard these things Jesus wondered at him, and having turned to the multitude following him, he said, `I say to you, not even in Israel so much faith did I find;'

Al oír esto, Jesús se maravilló de él, y volviéndose, dijo a la multitud que le seguía: Os digo que ni aun en Israel he hallado una fe tan grande.

10 a nd those sent, having turned back to the house, found the ailing servant in health.

Y cuando los que habían sido enviados regresaron a la casa, encontraron sano al siervo. Jesús resucita al hijo de la viuda de Naín

11 A nd it came to pass, on the morrow, he was going on to a city called Nain, and there were going with him many of his disciples, and a great multitude,

Aconteció poco después que Jesús fue a una ciudad llamada Naín; y sus discípulos iban con El acompañados por una gran multitud.

12 a nd as he came nigh to the gate of the city, then, lo, one dead was being carried forth, an only son of his mother, and she a widow, and a great multitude of the city was with her.

Y cuando se acercaba a la puerta de la ciudad, he aquí, sacaban fuera a un muerto, hijo único de su madre, y ella era viuda; y un grupo numeroso de la ciudad estaba con ella.

13 A nd the Lord having seen her, was moved with compassion towards her, and said to her, `Be not weeping;'

Al verla, el Señor tuvo compasión de ella, y le dijo: No llores.

14 a nd having come near, he touched the bier, and those bearing stood still, and he said, `Young man, to thee I say, Arise;'

Y acercándose, tocó el féretro; y los que lo llevaban se detuvieron. Y Jesús dijo: Joven, a ti te digo: ¡Levántate!

15 a nd the dead sat up, and began to speak, and he gave him to his mother;

El que había muerto se incorporó y comenzó a hablar, y Jesús se lo entregó a su madre.

16 a nd fear took hold of all, and they were glorifying God, saying -- `A great prophet hath risen among us,' and -- `God did look upon His people.'

El temor se apoderó de todos, y glorificaban a Dios, diciendo: Un gran profeta ha surgido entre nosotros, y: Dios ha visitado a su pueblo.

17 A nd the account of this went forth in all Judea about him, and in all the region around.

Y este dicho que se decía de El, se divulgó por toda Judea y por toda la región circunvecina. Jesús y los discípulos de Juan

18 A nd the disciples of John told him about all these things,

Entonces los discípulos de Juan le informaron de todas estas cosas.

19 a nd John having called near a certain two of his disciples, sent unto Jesus, saying, `Art thou he who is coming, or for another do we look?'

Y llamando Juan a dos de sus discípulos, los envió al Señor, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o esperamos a otro ?

20 A nd having come near to him, the men said, `John the Baptist sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he who is coming, or for another do we look?'

Cuando los hombres llegaron a El, dijeron: Juan el Bautista nos ha enviado a ti, diciendo: “¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o esperamos a otro?”

21 A nd in that hour he cured many from sicknesses, and plagues, and evil spirits, and to many blind he granted sight.

En esa misma hora curó a muchos de enfermedades y aflicciones, y malos espíritus, y a muchos ciegos les dio la vista.

22 A nd Jesus answering said to them, `Having gone on, report to John what ye saw and heard, that blind men do see again, lame do walk, lepers are cleansed, deaf do hear, dead are raised, poor have good news proclaimed;

Y respondiendo El, les dijo: Id y contad a Juan lo que habéis visto y oído: los ciegos reciben la vista, los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios y los sordos oyen, los muertos son resucitados y a los pobres se les anuncia el evangelio.

23 a nd happy is he whoever may not be stumbled in me.'

Y bienaventurado es el que no se escandaliza de mí. Jesús habla de Juan el Bautista

24 A nd the messengers of John having gone away, he began to say unto the multitudes concerning John: `What have ye gone forth to the wilderness to look on? a reed by the wind shaken?

Cuando los mensajeros de Juan se fueron, Jesús comenzó a hablar a las multitudes acerca de Juan: ¿Qué salisteis a ver en el desierto? ¿Una caña sacudida por el viento?

25 b ut what have ye gone forth to see? a man in soft garments clothed? lo, they in splendid apparellings, and living in luxury, are in the houses of kings!

Mas, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un hombre vestido con ropas finas? Mirad, los que visten con esplendor y viven en deleites están en los palacios de los reyes.

26 ` But what have ye gone forth to see? a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet:

Pero, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un profeta? Sí, os digo, y uno que es más que un profeta.

27 t his is he concerning whom it hath been written, Lo, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee;

Este es aquel de quien está escrito: “ He aqui, yo envio mi mensajero delante de tu faz, quien preparara tu camino delante de ti.”

28 f or I say to you, a greater prophet, among those born of women, than John the Baptist there is not; but the least in the reign of God is greater than he.'

Os digo que entre los nacidos de mujer, no hay nadie mayor que Juan; sin embargo, el más pequeño en el reino de Dios es mayor que él.

29 A nd all the people having heard, and the tax-gatherers, declared God righteous, having been baptized with the baptism of John,

Cuando todo el pueblo y los recaudadores de impuestos le oyeron, reconocieron la justicia de Dios, siendo bautizados con el bautismo de Juan.

30 b ut the Pharisees, and the lawyers, the counsel of God did put away for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

Pero los fariseos y los intérpretes de la ley rechazaron los propósitos de Dios para con ellos, al no ser bautizados por Juan.

31 A nd the Lord said, `To what, then, shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

¿A qué, entonces, compararé los hombres de esta generación, y a qué son semejantes?

32 t hey are like to children, to those sitting in a market-place, and calling one to another, and saying, We piped to you, and ye did not dance, we mourned to you, and ye did not weep!

Son semejantes a los muchachos que se sientan en la plaza y se llaman unos a otros, y dicen: “Os tocamos la flauta, y no bailasteis; entonamos endechas, y no llorasteis.”

33 ` For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and ye say, He hath a demon;

Porque ha venido Juan el Bautista, que no come pan, ni bebe vino, y vosotros decís: “Tiene un demonio.”

34 t he Son of Man came eating and drinking, and ye say, Lo, a man, a glutton, and a wine drinker, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners;

Ha venido el Hijo del Hombre, que come y bebe, y decís: “Mirad, un hombre glotón y bebedor de vino, amigo de recaudadores de impuestos y de pecadores.”

35 a nd the wisdom was justified from all her children.'

Pero la sabiduría es justificada por todos sus hijos. Jesús perdona a una pecadora

36 A nd a certain one of the Pharisees was asking him that he might eat with him, and having gone into the house of the Pharisee he reclined (at meat),

Uno de los fariseos le pedía que comiera con él; y entrando en la casa del fariseo, se sentó a la mesa.

37 a nd lo, a woman in the city, who was a sinner, having known that he reclineth (at meat) in the house of the Pharisee, having provided an alabaster box of ointment,

Y he aquí, había en la ciudad una mujer que era pecadora, y cuando se enteró de que Jesús estaba sentado a la mesa en casa del fariseo, trajo un frasco de alabastro con perfume;

38 a nd having stood behind, beside his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with the tears, and with the hairs of her head she was wiping, and was kissing his feet, and was anointing with the ointment.

y poniéndose detrás de El a sus pies, llorando, comenzó a regar sus pies con lágrimas y los secaba con los cabellos de su cabeza, besaba sus pies y los ungía con el perfume.

39 A nd the Pharisee who did call him, having seen, spake within himself, saying, `This one, if he were a prophet, would have known who and of what kind the woman who doth touch him, that she is a sinner.'

Pero al ver esto el fariseo que le había invitado, dijo para sí: Si éste fuera un profeta, sabría quién y qué clase de mujer es la que le está tocando, que es una pecadora.

40 A nd Jesus answering said unto him, `Simon, I have something to say to thee;' and he saith, `Teacher, say on.'

Y respondiendo Jesús, le dijo: Simón, tengo algo que decirte: Y él dijo: Di, Maestro.

41 ` Two debtors were to a certain creditor; the one was owing five hundred denaries, and the other fifty;

Cierto prestamista tenía dos deudores; uno le debía quinientos denarios y el otro cincuenta;

42 a nd they not having to give back, he forgave both; which then of them, say thou, will love him more?'

y no teniendo ellos con qué pagar, perdonó generosamente a los dos. ¿Cuál de ellos, entonces, le amará más?

43 A nd Simon answering said, `I suppose that to whom he forgave the more;' and he said to him, `Rightly thou didst judge.'

Simón respondió, y dijo: Supongo que aquel a quien le perdonó más. Y Jesús le dijo: Has juzgado correctamente.

44 A nd having turned unto the woman, he said to Simon, `Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house; water for my feet thou didst not give, but this woman with tears did wet my feet, and with the hairs of her head did wipe;

Y volviéndose hacia la mujer, le dijo a Simón: ¿Ves esta mujer? Yo entré a tu casa y no me diste agua para los pies, pero ella ha regado mis pies con sus lágrimas y los ha secado con sus cabellos.

45 a kiss to me thou didst not give, but this woman, from what I came in, did not cease kissing my feet;

No me diste beso, pero ella, desde que entré, no ha cesado de besar mis pies.

46 w ith oil my head thou didst not anoint, but this woman with ointment did anoint my feet;

No ungiste mi cabeza con aceite, pero ella ungió mis pies con perfume.

47 t herefore I say to thee, her many sins have been forgiven, because she did love much; but to whom little is forgiven, little he doth love.'

Por lo cual te digo que sus pecados, que son muchos, han sido perdonados, porque amó mucho; pero a quien poco se le perdona, poco ama.

48 A nd he said to her, `Thy sins have been forgiven;'

Y a ella le dijo: Tus pecados han sido perdonados.

49 a nd those reclining with him (at meat) began to say within themselves, `Who is this, who also doth forgive sins?'

Los que estaban sentados a la mesa con El comenzaron a decir entre sí: ¿Quién es éste que hasta perdona pecados ?

50 a nd he said unto the woman, `Thy faith have saved thee, be going on to peace.'

Pero Jesús dijo a la mujer: Tu fe te ha salvado, vete en paz.
