1 T hat which hath been the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah concerning the matters of the dearths:

Lo que vino como palabra del Señor a Jeremías respecto a la sequía:

2 M ourned hath Judah, and her gates have languished, They have mourned to the earth, And the cry of Jerusalem hath gone up.

De luto está Judá, y sus puertas languidecen, están por tierra enlutadas, y sube el clamor de Jerusalén.

3 A nd their honourable ones have sent their little ones to the water, They have come unto ditches, They have not found water, They have turned back -- their vessels empty! They have been ashamed, And have blushed and covered their head.

Sus nobles enviaban a sus siervos por agua; iban a las cisternas y no hallaban agua; volvían con sus vasijas vacías. Quedaron avergonzados y humillados, y se cubrieron la cabeza.

4 B ecause the ground hath been broken, For there hath been no rain in the land, Ashamed have been husbandmen, They have covered their head.

El suelo está agrietado, pues no ha habido lluvia sobre la tierra; los labradores, avergonzados, se han cubierto la cabeza.

5 F or even the hind in the field hath brought forth -- to forsake For there hath been no grass.

Porque aun la cierva en el campo ha parido, pero abandona su cría porque no hay hierba.

6 A nd wild asses have stood on high places, They have swallowed up wind like dragons, Consumed have been their eyes, for there is no herb.

Y los asnos monteses se paran en las alturas desoladas, jadeando por aire como chacales; desfallecen sus ojos porque no hay vegetación.

7 S urely our iniquities have testified against us, O Jehovah, work for Thy name's sake, For many have been our backslidings, Against Thee we have sinned.

Aunque nuestras iniquidades testifican contra nosotros, oh Señor, obra por amor de tu nombre. En verdad han sido muchas nuestras apostasías, contra ti hemos pecado.

8 O Hope of Israel -- its saviour in time of trouble, Why art Thou as a sojourner in the land? And as a traveller turned aside to lodge?

Tú, esperanza de Israel, Salvador suyo en tiempo de angustia, ¿por qué has de ser como forastero en la tierra, o como caminante que ha plantado su tienda para pasar la noche?

9 W hy art Thou as one dumb? As a mighty one not able to save? And Thou in our midst, O Jehovah, And Thy name over us is called, leave us not.

¿Por qué has de ser como hombre desalentado, como guerrero incapaz de salvar ? Sin embargo tú estás en medio nuestro, oh Señor, y por tu nombre somos llamados; ¡no nos abandones!

10 T hus said Jehovah concerning this people: Well they have loved to wander, Their feet they have not restrained, And Jehovah hath not accepted them, Now doth He remember their iniquity, And inspect their sin.

Así dice el Señor de este pueblo: ¡Cómo les ha gustado vagar! No han refrenado sus pies. El Señor, pues, no los acepta; ahora se acordará El de su iniquidad y castigará sus pecados.

11 A nd Jehovah saith unto me: Thou dost not pray for this people for good,

Y el Señor me dijo: No ruegues por el bienestar de este pueblo.

12 W hen they fast, I hearken not unto their cry, And when they cause to ascend burnt-offering and present, I accept them not, For by sword, and by famine, And by pestilence, I am consuming them.

Cuando ayunen, no escucharé su clamor; cuando ofrezcan holocausto y ofrenda de cereal, no los aceptaré; sino que con espada, con hambre y con pestilencia los destruiré.

13 A nd I say, `Ah, Lord Jehovah, Lo, the prophets are saying to them: Ye do not see a sword, yea, famine is not to you, For true peace I give to you in this place.'

Y yo dije: ¡Ah, Señor Dios! He aquí, los profetas les dicen: “No veréis espada ni tendréis hambre, sino que os daré paz verdadera en este lugar.”

14 A nd Jehovah saith unto me: Falsehood the prophets are prophesying in My name, I did not send them, nor command them, Nor have I spoken unto them: A false vision, and divination, and vanity, And the deceit of their own heart, they are prophesying to you.

Entonces el Señor me dijo: Mentira profetizan los profetas en mi nombre. Yo no los he enviado, ni les he dado órdenes, ni les he hablado; visión falsa, adivinación, vanidad y engaño de sus corazones ellos os profetizan.

15 T herefore, thus said Jehovah concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, and I have not sent them, and they are saying, Sword and famine is not in this land: By sword and by famine are these prophets consumed.

Por tanto, así dice el Señor: En cuanto a los profetas que profetizan en mi nombre sin que yo los haya enviado, y que dicen: “No habrá espada ni hambre en esta tierra”, a espada y de hambre esos profetas perecerán.

16 A nd the people to whom they are prophesying, Are cast into out-places of Jerusalem, Because of the famine, and of the sword, And they have none burying them, Them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, And I have poured out upon them this evil.

También el pueblo a quien profetizan estará tirado por las calles de Jerusalén a causa del hambre y de la espada; no habrá quien los entierre a ellos, ni a sus mujeres, ni a sus hijos, ni a sus hijas, pues derramaré sobre ellos su maldad.

17 A nd thou hast said unto them this word: Tears come down mine eyes night and day, And they do not cease, For, a great breach, Broken hath been the virgin daughter of my people, A very grievous stroke.

Y les dirás esta palabra: “Viertan lágrimas mis ojos noche y día, y no cesen, porque de gran quebranto ha sido quebrantada la virgen hija de mi pueblo, de una dolorosa herida muy grave.

18 I f I have gone forth to the field, Then, lo, the pierced of the sword! And if I have entered the city, Then, lo, the diseased of famine! For both prophet and priest have gone up and down Unto a land that they knew not.

“Si salgo al campo, he aquí, muertos a espada; y si entro en la ciudad, he aquí, enfermedades por el hambre. Porque tanto el profeta como el sacerdote andan errantes en una tierra que no conocen.”

19 H ast Thou utterly rejected Judah? Zion hath Thy soul loathed? Wherefore hast Thou smitten us, And there is no healing to us? Looking for peace, and there is no good, And for a time of healing, and lo, terror.

¿Has desechado por completo a Judá, o ha aborrecido tu alma a Sion? ¿Por qué nos has herido sin que haya curación para nosotros ? Esperábamos paz, y no hubo bien alguno; tiempo de curación, y he aquí, terror.

20 W e have known, O Jehovah, our wickedness, The iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against Thee.

Reconocemos, oh Señor, nuestra impiedad, la iniquidad de nuestros padres, pues hemos pecado contra ti.

21 D o not despise, for Thy name's sake, Dishonour not the throne of Thine honour, Remember, break not Thy covenant with us.

No nos desprecies, por amor a tu nombre, no deshonres el trono de tu gloria; acuérdate, no anules tu pacto con nosotros.

22 A re there among the vanities of the nations any causing rain? And do the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O Jehovah our God? And we wait for thee, for Thou -- Thou hast done all these!

¿Hay entre los ídolos de las naciones alguno que haga llover? ¿O pueden los cielos solos dar lluvia? ¿No eres tú, oh Señor, nuestro Dios ? En ti, pues, esperamos, porque tú has hecho todas estas cosas.
