1 A nd it cometh to pass, at the king Hezekiah's hearing, that he rendeth his garments, and covereth himself with sackcloth, and entereth the house of Jehovah,

Y sucedió que cuando oyó esto el rey Ezequías, rasgó sus vestidos, se cubrió de cilicio y entró en la casa del Señor.

2 a nd sendeth Eliakim, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet,

Envió entonces a Eliaquim, mayordomo de la casa real, con el escriba Sebna y los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos de cilicio, al profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz.

3 a nd they say unto him, `Thus said Hezekiah, A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising, this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bear.

Y ellos le dijeron: Así dice Ezequías: “Este día es día de angustia, de reprensión y de desprecio, pues hijos están para nacer, pero no hay fuerzas para dar a luz.

4 ` It may be Jehovah thy God doth hear the words of Rabshakeh with which the king of Asshur his lord hath sent him to reproach the living God, and hath decided concerning the words that Jehovah thy God hath heard, and thou hast lifted up prayer for the remnant that is found.'

“Tal vez el Señor tu Dios oirá las palabras del Rabsaces, a quien su señor, el rey de Asiria, ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo, y lo reprenderá por las palabras que el Señor tu Dios ha oído. Eleva, pues, una oración por el remanente que aún queda.”

5 A nd the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,

Cuando llegaron los siervos del rey Ezequías ante Isaías,

6 a nd Isaiah saith unto them, `Thus do ye say unto your lord, Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.

éste les dijo: Así diréis a vuestro señor: “Así dice el Señor: ‘No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las que los siervos del rey de Asiria me han blasfemado.

7 L o, I am giving in him a spirit, and he hath heard a report, and hath turned back unto his land, and I have caused him to fall by the sword in his land.'

‘He aquí, pondré en él un espíritu, oirá un rumor y se volverá a su tierra; y en su tierra lo haré caer a espada.’”

8 A nd Rabshakeh turneth back and findeth the king of Asshur fighting against Libnah, for he hath heard that he hath journeyed from Lachish.

Entonces el Rabsaces volvió y halló al rey de Asiria peleando contra Libna, pues había oído que el rey había partido de Laquis.

9 A nd he heareth concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `He hath come out to fight with thee;' and he heareth, and sendeth messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,

Y les oyó decir acerca de Tirhaca, rey de Etiopía: Ha salido a pelear contra ti. Y cuando lo oyó, envió mensajeros a Ezequías, diciendo:

10 ` Thus do ye speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God lift thee up in whom thou art trusting, saying, Jerusalem is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

Así diréis a Ezequías, rey de Judá: “No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, diciendo: ‘Jerusalén no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.’

11 L o, thou hast heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands -- to devote them -- and thou art delivered!

“He aquí, tú has oído lo que los reyes de Asiria han hecho a todas las naciones, destruyéndolas por completo, ¿y serás tú librado?

12 D id the gods of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed -- Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who in Telassar?

“¿Acaso los libraron los dioses de las naciones que mis padres destruyeron, es decir, Gozán, Harán, Resef y a los hijos de Edén que estaban en Telasar?

13 W here the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?'

“¿Dónde está el rey de Hamat, el rey de Arfad, el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, de Hena y de Iva?”

14 A nd Hezekiah taketh the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and readeth them, and Hezekiah goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah spreadeth it before Jehovah.

Entonces Ezequías tomó la carta de mano de los mensajeros y la leyó, y subió a la casa del Señor y la extendió delante del Señor.

15 A nd Hezekiah prayeth unto Jehovah, saying,

Y Ezequías oró al Señor, diciendo:

16 ` Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, inhabiting the cherubs, Thou God Himself -- Thyself alone -- to all kingdoms of the earth, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

Oh Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que estás sobre los querubines, sólo tú eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra. Tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra.

17 I ncline, O Jehovah, Thine ear, and hear; open, O Jehovah, Thine eyes and see; and hear Thou all the words of Sennacherib that he hath sent to reproach the living God.

Inclina, oh Señor, tu oído y escucha; abre, oh Señor, tus ojos y mira; escucha todas las palabras que Senaquerib ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo.

18 ` Truly, O Jehovah, kings of Asshur have laid waste all the lands and their land,

En verdad, oh Señor, los reyes de Asiria han asolado todas las naciones y sus tierras,

19 s o as to put their gods into fire -- for they no gods, but work of the hands of man, wood and stone -- and they destroy them.

y han echado sus dioses al fuego, porque no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombre, de madera y piedra; por eso los han destruido.

20 A nd now, Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, and all kingdoms of the earth do know that Thou Jehovah, Thyself alone.'

Y ahora, Señor, Dios nuestro, líbranos de su mano para que todos los reinos de la tierra sepan que sólo tú, oh Señor, eres Dios.

21 A nd Isaiah son of Amoz sendeth unto Hezekiah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed unto me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur --

Entonces Isaías, hijo de Amoz, envió a decir a Ezequías: Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Por cuanto me has rogado acerca de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria,

22 t his the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: Trampled on thee, laughed at thee, Hath the virgin daughter of Zion, Behind thee shaken the head hath the daughter of Jerusalem.

esta es la palabra que el Señor ha hablado contra él: ‘Te ha despreciado y se ha burlado de ti la virgen hija de Sion; ha movido la cabeza a tus espaldas la hija de Jerusalén.

23 W hom hast thou reproached and reviled? And against whom lifted up the voice? Yea, thou dost lift up on high thine eyes Against the Holy One of Israel.

‘¿A quién has injuriado y blasfemado ? ¿Y contra quién has alzado la voz y levantado con altivez tus ojos ? ¡Contra el Santo de Israel!

24 B y the hand of thy servants Thou hast reviled the Lord, and sayest: In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of hills, The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the high place of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel.

‘Por mano de tus siervos has injuriado al Señor, y has dicho: “Con mis numerosos carros yo subí a las cumbres de los montes, a las partes más remotas del Líbano, y corté sus altos cedros y sus mejores cipreses; iré a su más alta cima, a su más frondoso bosque.

25 I -- I have dug and drunk waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark.

“Yo cavé pozos y bebí aguas, y sequé con la planta de mis pies todos los ríos de Egipto.”

26 H ast thou not heard from afar? -- it I did, From days of old -- that I formed it. Now, I have brought it in, And it is to make desolate, Ruinous heaps -- fenced cities,

‘¿No has oído ? Hace mucho tiempo que lo hice, desde la antigüedad lo había planeado. Ahora he hecho que suceda, para que conviertas las ciudades fortificadas en montones de ruinas.

27 A nd their inhabitants are feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up. They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn, before it hath risen up.

‘Sus habitantes, faltos de fuerzas, fueron desalentados y humillados; vinieron a ser como la vegetación del campo y como la hierba verde, como la hierba en los techos que se quema antes de que haya crecido.

28 A nd thy sitting down, and thy going out, And thy coming in, I have known, And thy anger towards Me.

‘Pero conozco tu sentarte, tu salir y tu entrar, y tu furor contra mí.

29 B ecause of thy anger towards Me, And thy noise -- it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in thy nose, And My bridle in thy lips, And I have caused thee to turn back In the way in which thou camest.

‘A causa de tu furor contra mí, y porque tu arrogancia ha subido hasta mis oídos, pondré, pues, mi garfio en tu nariz y mi freno en tu boca, y te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste.

30 - - And this to thee the sign, Food of the year self-sown grain, And in the second year the spontaneous growth, And in the third year, sow ye and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.

‘Esto te será por señal: Este año comeréis lo que crezca espontáneamente; el segundo año lo que nazca de por sí, y en el tercer año sembrad, segad, plantad viñas y comed su fruto.

31 A nd it hath continued -- the escaped Of the house of Judah that hath been left -- To take root beneath, And it hath made fruit upward.

‘Y el remanente de la casa de Judá que se salve, echará de nuevo raíces por debajo y dará fruto por arriba.

32 F or from Jerusalem goeth forth a remnant, And an escape from mount Zion, The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts doth this.

‘Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un remanente, y del monte Sion sobrevivientes. El celo del Señor de los ejércitos hará esto.’”

33 T herefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it shield, Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.

Por tanto, así dice el Señor acerca del rey de Asiria: “El no entrará en esta ciudad ni lanzará allí flecha alguna; tampoco vendrá delante de ella con escudo ni levantará terraplén contra ella.

34 I n the way that he came, in it he turneth back, And unto this city he doth not come in, An affirmation of Jehovah,

“Por el camino que vino, por él se volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad” —declara el Señor.

35 A nd I have covered over this city, To save it, for Mine own sake, And for the sake of David My servant.'

“Porque defenderé esta ciudad para salvarla por amor a mí mismo y por amor a mi siervo David.” Muerte de Senaquerib

36 A nd a messenger of Jehovah goeth out, and smiteth in the camp of Asshur a hundred and eighty and five thousand; and rise early in the morning, and lo, all of them dead corpses.

Y salió el ángel del Señor e hirió a ciento ochenta y cinco mil en el campamento de los asirios; cuando los demás se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí, todos eran cadáveres.

37 A nd journey, and go, and turn back doth Sennacherib king of Asshur, and dwelleth in Nineveh.

Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, partió y regresó a su tierra, y habitó en Nínive.

38 A nd it cometh to pass, he is bowing himself in the house of Nisroch his god, and Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons have smitten him with the sword, and they have escaped to the land of Ararat, and Esar-Haddon his son reigneth in his stead.

Y sucedió que mientras él adoraba en la casa de su dios Nisroc, sus hijos Adramelec y Sarezaer lo mataron a espada y huyeron a la tierra de Ararat. Y su hijo Esar-hadón reinó en su lugar.
