1 T hese the words which Moses hath spoken unto all Israel, beyond the Jordan, in the wilderness, in the plain over-against Suph, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Di-Zahab;

Estas son las palabras que Moisés habló a todo Israel al otro lado del Jordán, en el desierto, en el Arabá, frente a Suf, entre Parán, Tofel, Labán, Hazerot y Dizahab.

2 e leven days' from Horeb, the way of mount Seir, unto Kadesh-Barnea.

Hay once días de camino desde Horeb, por el camino del monte Seir, hasta Cades-barnea.

3 A nd it cometh to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month hath Moses spoken unto the sons of Israel according to all that Jehovah hath commanded him concerning them;

Y sucedió que en el año cuarenta, el mes undécimo, el primer día del mes, Moisés habló a los hijos de Israel conforme a todo lo que el Señor le había ordenado que les diera,

4 a fter his smiting Sihon king of the Amorite who is dwelling in Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan who is dwelling in Ashtaroth in Edrei,

después de haber derrotado a Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón, y a Og, rey de Basán, que habitaba en Astarot y en Edrei.

5 b eyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, hath Moses begun to explain this law, saying:

Al otro lado del Jordán, en la tierra de Moab, Moisés comenzó a explicar esta ley, diciendo:

6 ` Jehovah our God hath spoken unto us in Horeb, saying, Enough to you -- of dwelling in this mount;

El Señor nuestro Dios nos habló en Horeb, diciendo: “Bastante habéis permanecido en este monte.

7 t urn ye and journey for you, and enter the mount of the Amorite, and unto all its neighbouring places, in the plain, in the hill-country, and in the low country, and in the south, and in the haven of the sea, the land of the Canaanite, and of Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Phrat;

“Volveos; partid e id a la región montañosa de los amorreos, y a todos sus vecinos, en el Arabá, en la región montañosa, en el valle, en el Neguev, y por la costa del mar, la tierra de los cananeos y el Líbano, hasta el gran río, el río Eufrates.

8 s ee, I have set before you the land; go in and possess the land which Jehovah hath sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them, and to their seed after them.

“Mirad, he puesto la tierra delante de vosotros; entrad y tomad posesión de la tierra que el Señor juró dar a vuestros padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob, a ellos y a su descendencia después de ellos.” Nombramiento de ayudantes para Moisés

9 ` And I speak unto you at that time, saying, I am not able by myself to bear you;

Y en aquel tiempo os hablé, diciendo: “Yo solo no puedo llevar la carga de todos vosotros.

10 J ehovah your God hath multiplied you, and lo, ye to-day as the stars of the heavens for multitude;

“El Señor vuestro Dios os ha multiplicado y he aquí que hoy sois como las estrellas del cielo en multitud.

11 J ehovah, God of your fathers, is adding to you, as ye, a thousand times, and doth bless you as He hath spoken to you.

“Que el Señor, el Dios de vuestros padres, os multiplique mil veces más de lo que sois y os bendiga, tal como os ha prometido.

12 ` How do I bear by myself your pressure, and your burden, and your strife?

“¿Cómo puedo yo solo llevar el peso y la carga de vosotros y vuestros litigios?

13 G ive for yourselves men, wise and intelligent, and known to your tribes, and I set them for your heads;

“Escoged de entre vuestras tribus hombres sabios, entendidos y expertos, y yo los nombraré como vuestros jefes.”

14 a nd ye answer me and say, Good the thing which thou hast spoken -- to do.

Y vosotros me respondisteis, y dijisteis: “Bueno es que se haga lo que has dicho.”

15 ` And I take the heads of your tribes, men, wise and known, and I appoint them heads over you, princes of thousands, and princes of hundreds, and princes of fifties, and princes of tens, and authorities, for your tribes.

Entonces tomé a los principales de vuestras tribus, hombres sabios y expertos, y los nombré como dirigentes vuestros, jefes de mil, de cien, de cincuenta, y de diez, y oficiales para vuestras tribus.

16 A nd I command your judges at that time, saying, Hearkening between your brethren -- then ye have judged righteousness between a man, and his brother, and his sojourner;

Y en aquella ocasión mandé a vuestros jueces, diciendo: “Oíd los pleitos entre vuestros hermanos, y juzgad justamente entre un hombre y su hermano o el forastero que está con él.

17 y e do not discern faces in judgment; as the little so the great ye do hear; ye are not afraid of the face of any, for the judgment is God's, and the thing which is too hard for you, ye bring near unto me, and I have heard it;

“No mostraréis parcialidad en el juicio; lo mismo oiréis al pequeño que al grande. No tendréis temor del hombre, porque el juicio es de Dios. Y el caso que sea muy difícil para vosotros, me lo traeréis a mí, y yo lo oiré.”

18 a nd I command you, at that time, all the things which ye do.

En aquella misma ocasión os mandé todas las cosas que deberíais hacer. Misión de los doce espías

19 ` And we journey from Horeb, and go all that great and fearful wilderness which ye have seen -- the way of the hill-country of the Amorite, as Jehovah our God hath commanded us, and we come in unto Kadesh-Barnea.

Partimos de Horeb y pasamos por todo aquel vasto y terrible desierto que visteis, camino de la región montañosa de los amorreos, tal como el Señor nuestro Dios nos había mandado, y llegamos a Cades-barnea.

20 ` And I say unto you, Ye have come in unto the hill-country of the Amorite, which Jehovah our God is giving to us;

Y os dije: “Habéis llegado a la región montañosa de los amorreos que el Señor nuestro Dios va a darnos.

21 s ee, Jehovah thy God hath set before thee the land; go up, possess, as Jehovah, God of thy fathers, hath spoken to thee; fear not, nor be affrighted.

“Mira, Israel, el Señor tu Dios ha puesto la tierra delante de ti; sube, toma posesión de ella, como el Señor, el Dios de tus padres, te ha dicho. No temas ni te acobardes.”

22 ` And ye come near unto me, all of you, and say, Let us send men before us, and they search for us the land, and they bring us back word the way in which we go up into it, and the cities unto which we come in;

Entonces todos vosotros os acercasteis a mí, y dijisteis: “Enviemos hombres delante de nosotros, que nos exploren la tierra, y nos traigan noticia del camino por el cual hemos de subir y de las ciudades a las cuales entraremos.”

23 a nd the thing is good in mine eyes, and I take of you twelve men, one man for a tribe.

Y me agradó el plan, y tomé a doce hombres de entre vosotros, un hombre por cada tribu.

24 ` And they turn and go up to the hill-country, and come in unto the valley of Eshcol, and spy it,

Y ellos partieron y subieron a la región montañosa, y llegaron hasta el valle de Escol, y reconocieron la tierra.

25 a nd they take with their hand of the fruit of the land, and bring down unto us, and bring us back word, and say, Good is the land which Jehovah our God is giving to us.

Tomaron en sus manos del fruto de la tierra y nos lo trajeron; y nos dieron un informe, diciendo: “Es una tierra buena que el Señor nuestro Dios nos da.”

26 ` And ye have not been willing to go up, and ye provoke the mouth of Jehovah your God,

Sin embargo, no quisisteis subir, y os rebelasteis contra el mandato del Señor vuestro Dios.

27 a nd murmur in your tents, and say, In Jehovah's hating us He hath brought us out of the land of Egypt, to give us into the hand of the Amorite -- to destroy us;

Y murmurasteis en vuestras tiendas, diciendo: “Porque el Señor nos aborrece, nos ha sacado de la tierra de Egipto para entregarnos en manos de los amorreos y destruirnos.

28 w hither are we going up? our brethren have melted our heart, saying, A people greater and taller than we, cities great and fenced to heaven, and also sons of Anakim -- we have seen there.

“¿Adónde subiremos? Nuestros hermanos nos han atemorizado, diciendo: ‘El pueblo es más grande y más alto que nosotros; las ciudades son grandes y fortificadas hasta el cielo. Y además vimos allí a los hijos de Anac.’”

29 ` And I say unto you, Be not terrified, nor be afraid of them;

Entonces yo os dije: “No temáis ni les tengáis miedo.

30 J ehovah your God, who is going before you -- He doth fight for you, according to all that He hath done with you in Egypt before your eyes,

“El Señor vuestro Dios, que va delante de vosotros, El peleará por vosotros, así como lo hizo delante de vuestros ojos en Egipto,

31 a nd in the wilderness, where thou hast seen that Jehovah thy God hath borne thee as a man beareth his son, in all the way which ye have gone, till your coming in unto this place.

y en el desierto, donde has visto cómo el Señor tu Dios te llevó, como un hombre lleva a su hijo, por todo el camino que habéis andado hasta llegar a este lugar.”

32 ` And in this thing ye are not stedfast in Jehovah your God,

Pero con todo esto, no confiasteis en el Señor vuestro Dios,

33 w ho is going before you in the way to search out to you a place for your encamping, in fire by night, to shew you in the way in which ye go, and in a cloud by day.

que iba delante de vosotros en el camino para buscaros lugar dónde acampar, con fuego de noche y nube de día, para mostraros el camino por donde debíais andar. El castigo de Dios

34 ` And Jehovah heareth the voice of your words, and is wroth, and sweareth, saying,

Entonces oyó el Señor la voz de vuestras palabras, y se enojó y juró, diciendo:

35 N ot one of these men of this evil generation doth see the good land which I have sworn to give to your fathers,

“Ninguno de estos hombres, esta generación perversa, verá la buena tierra que juré dar a vuestros padres,

36 s ave Caleb son of Jephunneh -- he doth see it, and to him I give the land on which he hath trodden, and to his sons, because that he hath been fully after Jehovah.

excepto Caleb, hijo de Jefone; él la verá, y a él y a sus hijos daré la tierra que ha pisado, pues él ha seguido fielmente al Señor.”

37 ` Also with me hath Jehovah been angry for your sake, saying, Also, thou dost not go in thither;

El Señor se enojó también contra mí por causa vuestra, diciendo: “Tampoco tú entrarás allá.

38 J oshua son of Nun, who is standing before thee, he goeth in thither; him strengthen thou; for he doth cause Israel to inherit.

“Josué, hijo de Nun, que está delante de ti, él entrará allá; anímale, porque él hará que Israel la posea.

39 ` And your infants, of whom ye have said, For a prey they are, and your sons who have not known to-day good and evil, they go in thither, and to them I give it, and they possess it;

“Y vuestros pequeños, que dijisteis que vendrían a ser presa, y vuestros hijos, que hoy no tienen conocimiento del bien ni del mal, entrarán allá, y a ellos yo la daré, y ellos la poseerán.

40 a nd ye, turn for yourselves, and journey toward the wilderness, the way of the Red Sea.

“Pero vosotros, volveos y partid hacia el desierto por el camino del mar Rojo.”

41 ` And ye answer and say unto me, We have sinned against Jehovah; we -- we go up, and we have fought, according to all that which Jehovah our God hath commanded us; and ye gird on each his weapons of war, and ye are ready to go up into the hill-country;

Entonces respondisteis y me dijisteis: “Hemos pecado contra el Señor; nosotros subiremos y pelearemos tal como el Señor nuestro Dios nos ha mandado.” Y cada uno de vosotros se ciñó sus armas de guerra, y pensasteis que era fácil subir a la región montañosa.

42 a nd Jehovah saith unto me, Say to them, Ye do not go up, nor fight, for I am not in your midst, and ye are not smitten before your enemies.

Pero el Señor me dijo: “Diles: ‘No subáis, ni peleéis, pues yo no estoy entre vosotros; para que no seáis derrotados por vuestros enemigos.’”

43 ` And I speak unto you, and ye have not hearkened, and provoke the mouth of Jehovah, and act proudly, and go up into the hill-country;

Y os hablé, pero no quisisteis escuchar. Al contrario, os rebelasteis contra el mandamiento del Señor, y obrasteis con presunción, y subisteis a la región montañosa.

44 a nd the Amorite who is dwelling in that hill-country cometh out to meet you, and they pursue you as the bees do, and smite you in Seir -- unto Hormah.

Y los amorreos que moraban en aquella región montañosa salieron contra vosotros, y os persiguieron como lo hacen las abejas, y os derrotaron desde Seir hasta Horma.

45 ` And ye turn back and weep before Jehovah, and Jehovah hath not hearkened to your voice, nor hath he given ear unto you;

Entonces volvisteis y llorasteis delante del Señor, pero el Señor no escuchó vuestra voz, ni os prestó oído.

46 a nd ye dwell in Kadesh many days, according to the days which ye had dwelt.

Por eso permanecisteis en Cades muchos días, los días que pasasteis allí.
