1 A nd in the twenty and fourth day of this month have the sons of Israel been gathered, with fasting, and with sackcloth, and earth upon them;

El día veinticuatro de este mes se congregaron los hijos de Israel en ayuno, vestidos de cilicio y con polvo sobre sí.

2 a nd the seed of Israel are separated from all sons of a stranger, and stand and confess concerning their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers,

Y los descendientes de Israel se separaron de todos los extranjeros, y se pusieron en pie, confesando sus pecados y las iniquidades de sus padres.

3 a nd rise up on their station, and read in the book of the law of Jehovah their God a fourth of the day, and a fourth they are confessing and bowing themselves to Jehovah their God.

Puestos de pie, cada uno en su lugar, leyeron en el libro de la ley del Señor su Dios por una cuarta parte del día; y por otra cuarta parte confesaron y adoraron al Señor su Dios.

4 A nd there stand up on the ascent, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, Chenani, and they cry with a loud voice unto Jehovah their God.

Y sobre el estrado de los levitas se levantaron Jesúa, Bani, Cadmiel, Sebanías, Buni, Serebías, Bani y Quenani, y clamaron en alta voz al Señor su Dios.

5 A nd the Levites say, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, Pethahiah, `Rise, bless Jehovah your God, from the age unto the age, and they bless the name of Thine honour that exalted above all blessing and praise.

Entonces los levitas, Jesúa, Cadmiel, Bani, Hasabnías, Serebías, Hodías, Sebanías y Petaías, dijeron: Levantaos, bendecid al Señor vuestro Dios por siempre y para siempre. Sea bendito tu glorioso nombre y exaltado sobre toda bendición y alabanza.

6 T hou He, O Jehovah, Thyself -- Thou hast made the heavens, the heavens of the heavens, and all their host, the earth and all that on it, the seas and all that in them, and Thou art keeping all of them alive, and the host of the heavens to Thee are bowing themselves.

Sólo tú eres el Señor. Tú hiciste los cielos, los cielos de los cielos con todo su ejército, la tierra y todo lo que en ella hay, los mares y todo lo que en ellos hay. Tú das vida a todos ellos y el ejército de los cielos se postra ante ti.

7 ` Thou He, O Jehovah God, who didst fix on Abraham, and didst bring him out from Ur of the Chaldeans, and didst make his name Abraham,

Tú eres el Señor Dios que escogiste a Abram, lo sacaste de Ur de los Caldeos y le diste por nombre Abraham.

8 a nd didst find his heart stedfast before Thee, so as to make with him the covenant, to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, to give to his seed. `And Thou dost establish Thy words, for Thou righteous,

Hallaste fiel su corazón delante de ti, e hiciste con él un pacto para dar le la tierra del cananeo, del hitita, del amorreo, del ferezeo, del jebuseo y del gergeseo, para darla a su descendencia. Y has cumplido tu palabra, porque eres justo.

9 a nd dost see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and their cry hast heard by the sea of Suph,

Tú viste la aflicción de nuestros padres en Egipto, y escuchaste su clamor junto al mar Rojo.

10 a nd dost give signs and wonders on Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land, for Thou hast known that they have acted proudly against them, and Thou makest to Thee a name as this day.

Entonces hiciste señales y maravillas contra Faraón, contra todos sus siervos y contra todo el pueblo de su tierra; pues supiste que ellos los trataban con soberbia, y te hiciste un nombre como el de hoy.

11 A nd the sea Thou hast cleaved before them, and they pass over into the midst of the sea on the dry land, and their pursuers Thou hast cast into the depths, as a stone, into the strong waters.

Dividiste el mar delante de ellos, y pasaron por medio del mar sobre tierra firme; y echaste en los abismos a sus perseguidores, como a una piedra en aguas turbulentas.

12 A nd by a pillar of cloud Thou hast led them by day, and by a pillar of fire by night, to lighten to them the way in which they go.

Con columna de nube los guiaste de día, y con columna de fuego de noche, para alumbrarles el camino en que debían andar.

13 ` And on mount Sinai Thou hast come down, even to speak with them from the heavens, and Thou dost give to them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commands.

Luego bajaste sobre el monte Sinaí, y desde el cielo hablaste con ellos; les diste ordenanzas justas y leyes verdaderas, estatutos y mandamientos buenos.

14 A nd Thy holy sabbath Thou hast made known to them, and commands, and statutes, and law, Thou hast commanded for them, by the hand of Moses Thy servant;

Les hiciste conocer tu santo día de reposo, y les prescribiste mandamientos, estatutos y la ley por medio de tu siervo Moisés.

15 a nd bread from the heavens Thou hast given to them for their hunger, and water from a rock hast brought out to them for their thirst, and dost say to them to go in to possess the land that Thou hast lifted up Thy hand to give to them.

Les proveíste pan del cielo para su hambre, les sacaste agua de la peña para su sed, y les dijiste que entraran a poseer la tierra que tú habías jurado darles.

16 ` And they and our fathers have acted proudly, and harden their neck, and have not hearkened unto Thy commands,

Pero ellos, nuestros padres, obraron con soberbia, endurecieron su cerviz y no escucharon tus mandamientos.

17 y ea, they refuse to hearken, and have not remembered Thy wonders that Thou hast done with them, and harden their neck and appoint a head, to turn back to their service, in their rebellion; and Thou a God of pardons, gracious, and merciful, long-suffering, and abundant in kindness, and hast not forsaken them.

Rehusaron escuchar, y no se acordaron de las maravillas que hiciste entre ellos; endurecieron su cerviz y eligieron un jefe para volver a su esclavitud en Egipto. Pero tú eres un Dios de perdón, clemente y compasivo, lento para la ira y abundante en misericordia, y no los abandonaste.

18 ` Also, when they have made to themselves a molten calf, and say, this thy god that brought thee up out of Egypt, and do great despisings,

Ni siquiera cuando se hicieron un becerro de metal fundido y dijeron: “Este es tu Dios que te sacó de Egipto”, y cometieron grandes blasfemias,

19 a nd Thou, in Thine abundant mercies, hast not forsaken them in the wilderness -- the pillar of the cloud hath not turned aside from off them by day, to lead them in the way, and the pillar of the fire by night, to give light to them and the way in which they go.

tú, en tu gran compasión, no los abandonaste en el desierto; la columna de nube no los dejó de día, para guiarlos en el camino, ni la columna de fuego de noche, para alumbrarles el camino por donde debían andar.

20 ` And Thy good Spirit Thou hast given, to cause them to act wisely; and Thy manna Thou hast not withheld from their mouth, and water Thou hast given to them for their thirst,

Y diste tu buen Espíritu para instruirles, no retiraste tu maná de su boca, y les diste agua para su sed.

21 a nd forty years Thou hast nourished them in a wilderness; they have not lacked; their garments have not worn out, and their feet have not swelled.

Por cuarenta años proveíste para ellos en el desierto y nada les faltó, sus vestidos no se gastaron ni se hincharon sus pies.

22 ` And Thou givest to them kingdoms, and peoples, and dost apportion them to the corner, and they possess the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.

También les diste reinos y pueblos, y se los repartiste con sus límites. Y tomaron posesión de la tierra de Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y la tierra de Og, rey de Basán.

23 A nd their sons Thou hast multiplied as the stars of the heavens, and bringest them in unto the land that Thou hast said to their fathers to go in to possess.

Y multiplicaste sus hijos como las estrellas del cielo, y los llevaste a la tierra que habías dicho a sus padres que entraran a poseer la.

24 ` And the sons come in, and possess the land, and Thou humblest before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and givest them into their hand, and their kings, and the peoples of the land, to do with them according to their pleasure.

Y entraron los hijos y poseyeron la tierra. Y tú sometiste delante de ellos a los habitantes de la tierra, a los cananeos, y los entregaste en su mano, con sus reyes y los pueblos de la tierra, para hacer con ellos como quisieran.

25 A nd they capture fenced cities, and fat ground, and possess houses full of all good, digged-wells, vineyards, and olive-yards, and fruit-trees in abundance, and they eat, and are satisfied, and become fat, and delight themselves in Thy great goodness.

Y capturaron ciudades fortificadas y una tierra fértil. Tomaron posesión de casas llenas de toda cosa buena, cisternas excavadas, viñas y olivares, y árboles frutales en abundancia. Y comieron, se saciaron, engordaron y se deleitaron en tu gran bondad.

26 ` And they are disobedient, and rebel against Thee, and cast Thy law behind their back, and Thy prophets they have slain, who testified against them, to bring them back unto Thee, and they do great despisings,

Pero fueron desobedientes y se rebelaron contra ti, echaron tu ley a sus espaldas, mataron a tus profetas que los amonestaban para que se volvieran a ti, y cometieron grandes blasfemias.

27 a nd Thou givest them into the hand of their adversaries, and they distress them, and in the time of their distress they cry unto Thee, and Thou, from the heavens, dost hear, and, according to Thine abundant mercies, dost give to them saviours, and they save them out of the hand of their adversaries.

Entonces los entregaste en mano de sus enemigos, que los oprimieron, pero en el tiempo de su angustia clamaron a ti, y tú escuchaste desde el cielo, y conforme a tu gran compasión les diste libertadores que los libraron de mano de sus opresores.

28 ` And when they have rest, they turn back to do evil before Thee, and Thou dost leave them in the hand of their enemies, and they rule over them; and they turn back, and call Thee, and Thou from the heavens dost hear, and dost deliver them, according to Thy mercies, many times,

Pero cuando tenían descanso, volvían a hacer lo malo delante de ti; por eso tú los abandonabas en mano de sus enemigos para que los dominaran; y cuando clamaban de nuevo a ti, tú oías desde el cielo y muchas veces los rescataste conforme a tu compasión.

29 a nd dost testify against them, to bring them back unto Thy law; and they -- they have acted proudly, and have not hearkened to Thy commands, and against Thy judgments have sinned, -- which man doth and hath lived in them -- and they give a refractory shoulder, and their neck have hardened, and have not hearkened.

Los amonestaste para que volvieran a tu ley, pero ellos obraron con soberbia y no escucharon tus mandamientos, sino que pecaron contra tus ordenanzas, las cuales si el hombre las cumple, por ellas vivirá. Y dieron la espalda en rebeldía, endurecieron su cerviz y no escucharon.

30 ` And Thou drawest over them many years, and testifiest against them by Thy Spirit, by the hand of Thy prophets, and they have not given ear, and Thou dost give them into the hand of peoples of the lands,

Sin embargo, tú los soportaste por muchos años, y los amonestaste con tu Espíritu por medio de tus profetas, pero no prestaron oído. Entonces los entregaste en mano de los pueblos de estas tierras.

31 a nd in Thine abundant mercies Thou hast not made them a consumption, nor hast forsaken them; for a God, gracious and merciful, Thou.

Pero en tu gran compasión no los exterminaste ni los abandonaste, porque tú eres un Dios clemente y compasivo.

32 ` And now, O our God -- God, the great, the mighty, and the fearful, keeping the covenant and the kindness -- let not all the travail that hath found us be little before Thee, for our kings, for our heads, and for our priests, and for our prophets, and for our fathers, and for all Thy people, from the days of the kings of Asshur unto this day;

Ahora pues, Dios nuestro, Dios grande, poderoso y temible, que guardas el pacto y la misericordia, no parezca insignificante ante ti toda la aflicción que nos ha sobrevenido, a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros sacerdotes, a nuestros profetas, a nuestros padres y a todo tu pueblo, desde los días de los reyes de Asiria hasta el día de hoy.

33 a nd Thou righteous concerning all that hath come upon us, for truth Thou hast done, and we have done wickedly;

Mas tú eres justo en todo lo que ha venido sobre nosotros, porque tú has obrado fielmente, pero nosotros perversamente.

34 a nd our kings, our heads, our priests, and our fathers, have not done Thy law, nor attended unto Thy commands, and to Thy testimonies, that Thou hast testified against them;

Nuestros reyes, nuestros jefes, nuestros sacerdotes y nuestros padres no han observado tu ley ni han hecho caso a tus mandamientos ni a tus amonestaciones con que los amonestabas.

35 a nd they, in their kingdom, and in Thine abundant goodness, that Thou hast given to them, and in the land, the large and the fat, that Thou hast set before them, have not served Thee, nor turned back from their evil doings.

Pero ellos en su propio reino, con los muchos bienes que tú les diste, con la espaciosa y rica tierra que pusiste delante de ellos, no te sirvieron ni se convirtieron de sus malas obras.

36 ` Lo, we -- to-day -- servants, and the land that Thou hast given to our fathers, to eat its fruit and its good -- lo, we servants on it,

He aquí, hoy somos esclavos, y en cuanto a la tierra que diste a nuestros padres para comer de sus frutos y de sus bienes, he aquí, somos esclavos en ella.

37 a nd its increase it is multiplying to the kings whom Thou hast set over us in our sins; and over our bodies they are ruling, and over our cattle, according to their pleasure, and we in great distress.

Y su abundante fruto es para los reyes que tú pusiste sobre nosotros a causa de nuestros pecados, los cuales dominan nuestros cuerpos y nuestros ganados como les place, y en gran angustia estamos.

38 A nd for all this we are making a stedfast covenant, and are writing, and over him who is sealed our heads, our Levites, our priests.'

A causa de todo esto, nosotros hacemos un pacto fiel por escrito; y en el documento sellado están los nombres de nuestros jefes, nuestros levitas y nuestros sacerdotes.
