1 A nd in the twenty and fourth day of this month have the sons of Israel been gathered, with fasting, and with sackcloth, and earth upon them;

El día veinticuatro del mismo mes se reunieron los hijos de Israel en ayuno, vestidos de saco y con la cabeza cubierta de polvo.

2 a nd the seed of Israel are separated from all sons of a stranger, and stand and confess concerning their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers,

Y ya se había apartado la descendencia de Israel de todos los extranjeros; y puestos en pie, confesaron sus pecados, y las iniquidades de sus padres.

3 a nd rise up on their station, and read in the book of the law of Jehovah their God a fourth of the day, and a fourth they are confessing and bowing themselves to Jehovah their God.

Y puestos de pie en su lugar, leyeron el libro de la ley de Jehová su Dios la cuarta parte del día, y durante otra cuarta parte confesaron sus pecados y adoraron a Jehová su Dios.

4 A nd there stand up on the ascent, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, Chenani, and they cry with a loud voice unto Jehovah their God.

Luego se levantaron sobre la grada de los levitas, Jesúa, Baní, Cadmiel, Sebanías, Buní, Serebías, Baní y Quenaní, y clamaron en voz alta a Jehová su Dios.

5 A nd the Levites say, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, Pethahiah, `Rise, bless Jehovah your God, from the age unto the age, and they bless the name of Thine honour that exalted above all blessing and praise.

Y dijeron los levitas Jesúa, Cadmiel, Baní, Hasabnías, Serebías, Hodiyías, Sebanías y Petaías: Levantaos, bendecid a Jehová vuestro Dios desde la eternidad hasta la eternidad; y bendígase el nombre tuyo, glorioso y alto sobre toda bendición y alabanza.

6 T hou He, O Jehovah, Thyself -- Thou hast made the heavens, the heavens of the heavens, and all their host, the earth and all that on it, the seas and all that in them, and Thou art keeping all of them alive, and the host of the heavens to Thee are bowing themselves.

Tú solo eres Jehová; tú hiciste los cielos, y los cielos de los cielos, con todo su ejército, la tierra y todo lo que está en ella, los mares y todo lo que hay en ellos; y tú vivificas todas estas cosas, y los ejércitos de los cielos te adoran.

7 ` Thou He, O Jehovah God, who didst fix on Abraham, and didst bring him out from Ur of the Chaldeans, and didst make his name Abraham,

Tú eres, oh Jehová, el Dios que escogiste a Abram, y lo sacaste de Ur de los caldeos, y le pusiste por nombre Abraham;

8 a nd didst find his heart stedfast before Thee, so as to make with him the covenant, to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, to give to his seed. `And Thou dost establish Thy words, for Thou righteous,

y hallaste fiel su corazón delante de ti, e hiciste pacto con él para darle la tierra del cananeo, del heteo, del amorreo, del ferezeo, del jebuseo y del gergeseo, para darla a su descendencia; y cumpliste tu palabra, porque eres justo.

9 a nd dost see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and their cry hast heard by the sea of Suph,

Y miraste la aflicción de nuestros padres en Egipto, y oíste el clamor de ellos en el Mar Rojo;

10 a nd dost give signs and wonders on Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land, for Thou hast known that they have acted proudly against them, and Thou makest to Thee a name as this day.

e hiciste señales y prodigios contra Faraón, contra todos sus siervos, y contra todo el pueblo de su tierra, porque sabías que habían procedido con soberbia contra ellos; y te hiciste nombre grande hasta el día de hoy.

11 A nd the sea Thou hast cleaved before them, and they pass over into the midst of the sea on the dry land, and their pursuers Thou hast cast into the depths, as a stone, into the strong waters.

Dividiste el mar delante de ellos, y pasaron por medio de él en seco; y echaste a sus perseguidores en las profundidades, como una piedra en profundas aguas.

12 A nd by a pillar of cloud Thou hast led them by day, and by a pillar of fire by night, to lighten to them the way in which they go.

Con columna de nube los guiaste de día, y con columna de fuego de noche, para alumbrarles el camino por donde habían de ir.

13 ` And on mount Sinai Thou hast come down, even to speak with them from the heavens, and Thou dost give to them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commands.

Y sobre el monte de Sinay descendiste, y hablaste con ellos desde el cielo, y les diste juicios rectos, leyes verdaderas, y estatutos y mandamientos excelentes,

14 A nd Thy holy sabbath Thou hast made known to them, and commands, and statutes, and law, Thou hast commanded for them, by the hand of Moses Thy servant;

y les ordenaste el día del sábado como santo para ti, y por mano de Moisés tu siervo les prescribiste mandamientos, estatutos y la ley.

15 a nd bread from the heavens Thou hast given to them for their hunger, and water from a rock hast brought out to them for their thirst, and dost say to them to go in to possess the land that Thou hast lifted up Thy hand to give to them.

Les diste pan del cielo en su hambre, y en su sed les sacaste aguas de la peña; y les dijiste que entrasen a poseer la tierra, por la cual alzaste tu mano y juraste que se la darías.

16 ` And they and our fathers have acted proudly, and harden their neck, and have not hearkened unto Thy commands,

Mas ellos y nuestros padres fueron soberbios, y endurecieron su cerviz, y no escucharon tus mandamientos.

17 y ea, they refuse to hearken, and have not remembered Thy wonders that Thou hast done with them, and harden their neck and appoint a head, to turn back to their service, in their rebellion; and Thou a God of pardons, gracious, and merciful, long-suffering, and abundant in kindness, and hast not forsaken them.

No quisieron oír, ni se acordaron de tus maravillas que habías hecho con ellos; antes endurecieron su cerviz, y en su rebelión pensaron nombrar un jefe para volverse a su servidumbre. Pero tú eres Dios que perdonas, clemente y piadoso, tardo para la ira, y grande en misericordia, porque no los abandonaste.

18 ` Also, when they have made to themselves a molten calf, and say, this thy god that brought thee up out of Egypt, and do great despisings,

Además, cuando hicieron para sí becerro de fundición y dijeron: Éste es tu Dios que te hizo subir de Egipto; y cometieron grandes abominaciones,

19 a nd Thou, in Thine abundant mercies, hast not forsaken them in the wilderness -- the pillar of the cloud hath not turned aside from off them by day, to lead them in the way, and the pillar of the fire by night, to give light to them and the way in which they go.

tú, con todo, por tus muchas misericordias no los abandonaste en el desierto. La columna de nube no se apartó de ellos de día, para guiarlos por el camino, ni de noche la columna de fuego, para alumbrarles el camino por el cual habían de ir.

20 ` And Thy good Spirit Thou hast given, to cause them to act wisely; and Thy manna Thou hast not withheld from their mouth, and water Thou hast given to them for their thirst,

Y diste tu buen Espíritu para enseñarles, y no retiraste tu maná de su boca, y agua les diste para su sed.

21 a nd forty years Thou hast nourished them in a wilderness; they have not lacked; their garments have not worn out, and their feet have not swelled.

Los sustentaste cuarenta años en el desierto; de ninguna cosa tuvieron necesidad; sus vestidos no se envejecieron, ni se hincharon sus pies.

22 ` And Thou givest to them kingdoms, and peoples, and dost apportion them to the corner, and they possess the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.

Y les diste reinos y pueblos, y los repartiste por distritos; y poseyeron la tierra de Sehón, la tierra del rey de Hesbón, y la tierra de Og rey de Basán.

23 A nd their sons Thou hast multiplied as the stars of the heavens, and bringest them in unto the land that Thou hast said to their fathers to go in to possess.

Multiplicaste sus hijos como las estrellas del cielo, y los llevaste a la tierra de la cual habías dicho a sus padres que habían de entrar a poseerla.

24 ` And the sons come in, and possess the land, and Thou humblest before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and givest them into their hand, and their kings, and the peoples of the land, to do with them according to their pleasure.

Y los hijos vinieron y poseyeron la tierra, y humillaste delante de ellos a los moradores del país, a los cananeos, los cuales entregaste en su mano, y a sus reyes, y a los pueblos de la tierra, para que hiciesen de ellos como quisieran.

25 A nd they capture fenced cities, and fat ground, and possess houses full of all good, digged-wells, vineyards, and olive-yards, and fruit-trees in abundance, and they eat, and are satisfied, and become fat, and delight themselves in Thy great goodness.

Y tomaron ciudades fortificadas y tierra fértil, y heredaron casas llenas de todo bien, cisternas hechas, viñas y olivares, y muchos árboles frutales; comieron, se saciaron, y se deleitaron en tu gran bondad.

26 ` And they are disobedient, and rebel against Thee, and cast Thy law behind their back, and Thy prophets they have slain, who testified against them, to bring them back unto Thee, and they do great despisings,

Pero te provocaron a ira, y se rebelaron contra ti, y echaron tu ley tras sus espaldas, y mataron a tus profetas que protestaban contra ellos para convertirlos a ti, e hicieron grandes abominaciones.

27 a nd Thou givest them into the hand of their adversaries, and they distress them, and in the time of their distress they cry unto Thee, and Thou, from the heavens, dost hear, and, according to Thine abundant mercies, dost give to them saviours, and they save them out of the hand of their adversaries.

Entonces los entregaste en mano de sus enemigos, los cuales los afligieron. Pero en el tiempo de su tribulación clamaron a ti, y tú desde los cielos los oíste; y según tu gran misericordia les enviaste libertadores para que los salvasen de mano de sus enemigos.

28 ` And when they have rest, they turn back to do evil before Thee, and Thou dost leave them in the hand of their enemies, and they rule over them; and they turn back, and call Thee, and Thou from the heavens dost hear, and dost deliver them, according to Thy mercies, many times,

Pero una vez que tenían paz, volvían a hacer lo malo delante de ti, por lo cual los abandonaste en mano de sus enemigos que los dominaron; pero volvían y clamaban otra vez a ti, y tú desde los cielos los oías y según tus misericordias muchas veces los libraste.

29 a nd dost testify against them, to bring them back unto Thy law; and they -- they have acted proudly, and have not hearkened to Thy commands, and against Thy judgments have sinned, -- which man doth and hath lived in them -- and they give a refractory shoulder, and their neck have hardened, and have not hearkened.

Les amonestaste a que se volviesen a tu ley; mas ellos se llenaron de soberbia, y no oyeron tus mandamientos, sino que pecaron contra tus normas, las cuales si el hombre las cumple, en ellas vivirá; se rebelaron, endurecieron su cerviz, y no escucharon.

30 ` And Thou drawest over them many years, and testifiest against them by Thy Spirit, by the hand of Thy prophets, and they have not given ear, and Thou dost give them into the hand of peoples of the lands,

Los soportaste por muchos años, y les testificaste con tu Espíritu por medio de tus profetas, pero no escucharon; por lo cual los entregaste en manos de los pueblos de la tierra.

31 a nd in Thine abundant mercies Thou hast not made them a consumption, nor hast forsaken them; for a God, gracious and merciful, Thou.

Mas por tu gran misericordia no los consumiste, ni los desamparaste; porque eres Dios clemente y misericordioso.

32 ` And now, O our God -- God, the great, the mighty, and the fearful, keeping the covenant and the kindness -- let not all the travail that hath found us be little before Thee, for our kings, for our heads, and for our priests, and for our prophets, and for our fathers, and for all Thy people, from the days of the kings of Asshur unto this day;

Ahora, pues, Dios nuestro, Dios grande, fuerte, temible, que guardas el pacto y la misericordia, no sea tenido en poco delante de ti todo el sufrimiento que ha alcanzado a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros sacerdotes, a nuestros profetas, a nuestros padres y a todo tu pueblo, desde los días de los reyes de Asiria hasta este día.

33 a nd Thou righteous concerning all that hath come upon us, for truth Thou hast done, and we have done wickedly;

Pero tú eres justo en todo lo que ha venido sobre nosotros; porque rectamente has hecho, mas nosotros hemos hecho lo malo.

34 a nd our kings, our heads, our priests, and our fathers, have not done Thy law, nor attended unto Thy commands, and to Thy testimonies, that Thou hast testified against them;

Nuestros reyes, nuestros príncipes, nuestros sacerdotes y nuestros padres no pusieron por obra tu ley, ni atendieron a tus mandamientos y a tus testimonios con que les amonestabas.

35 a nd they, in their kingdom, and in Thine abundant goodness, that Thou hast given to them, and in the land, the large and the fat, that Thou hast set before them, have not served Thee, nor turned back from their evil doings.

Y ellos en su reino y en medio de la gran prosperidad que les diste, y en la tierra espaciosa y fértil que entregaste delante de ellos, no te sirvieron, ni se convirtieron de sus malas obras.

36 ` Lo, we -- to-day -- servants, and the land that Thou hast given to our fathers, to eat its fruit and its good -- lo, we servants on it,

He aquí que hoy somos esclavos; henos aquí, siervos en la tierra que diste a nuestros padres para que comiesen su fruto y su bien.

37 a nd its increase it is multiplying to the kings whom Thou hast set over us in our sins; and over our bodies they are ruling, and over our cattle, according to their pleasure, and we in great distress.

Y sus abundantes productos son para los reyes que has puesto sobre nosotros por nuestros pecados, quienes se enseñorean sobre nuestros cuerpos, y sobre nuestros ganados, conforme a su capricho, y estamos en gran angustia. Pacto del pueblo, de guardar la ley

38 A nd for all this we are making a stedfast covenant, and are writing, and over him who is sealed our heads, our Levites, our priests.'

A causa, pues, de todo esto, nosotros hacemos fiel promesa, y la escribimos, firmada por nuestros príncipes, por nuestros levitas y por nuestros sacerdotes.
