1 A nd it cometh to pass, in the days of the judging of the judges, that there is a famine in the land, and there goeth a man from Beth-Lehem-Judah to sojourn in the fields of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

Aconteció en los días en que gobernaban los jueces, que hubo hambre en la tierra. Y un varón de Belén de Judá fue a morar en los campos de Moab, él y su mujer, y dos hijos suyos.

2 A nd the name of the man Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites from Beth-Lehem-Judah; and they come into the fields of Moab, and are there.

Llamábase aquel varón Elimélec, y su mujer, Noemí; y sus hijos, Mahlón y Quilyón, efrateos de Belén de Judá. Llegaron, pues, a los campos de Moab, y se establecieron allí.

3 A nd Elimelech husband of Naomi dieth, and she is left, she and her two sons;

Y murió Elimélec, marido de Noemí, y quedó ella con sus dos hijos,

4 a nd they take to them wives, Moabitesses: the name of the one Orpah, and the name of the second Ruth; and they dwell there about ten years.

los cuales tomaron para sí mujeres moabitas; el nombre de una era Orfá, y el de la otra, Rut; y permanecieron allí unos diez años.

5 A nd they die also, both of them -- Mahlon and Chilion -- and the woman is left of her two children and of her husband.

Y murieron también los dos, Mahlón y Quilyón, quedando así la mujer desamparada de sus dos hijos y de su marido.

6 A nd she riseth, she and her daughters-in-law, and turneth back from the fields of Moab, for she hath heard in the fields of Moab that God hath looked after His people, -- to give to them bread.

Entonces se levantó con sus nueras, y regresó de los campos de Moab; porque había oído decir que Jehová había visitado a su pueblo, dándoles pan.

7 A nd she goeth out from the place where she hath been, and her two daughters-in-law with her, and they go in the way to turn back unto the land of Judah.

Salió, pues, del lugar donde había estado, y con ella sus dos nueras, y comenzaron a caminar para volverse a la tierra de Judá.

8 A nd Naomi saith to her two daughters-in-law, `Go, turn back, each to the house of her mother; Jehovah doth with you kindness as ye have done with the dead, and with me;

Y Noemí dijo a sus dos nueras: Andad, volveos cada una a la casa de su madre; Jehová haga con vosotras misericordia, como la habéis hecho con los muertos y conmigo.

9 J ehovah doth grant to you, and find ye rest each in the house of her husband;' and she kisseth them, and they lift up their voice and weep.

Os conceda Jehová que halléis descanso, cada una en casa de su marido. Luego las besó, y ellas alzaron su voz y lloraron,

10 A nd they say to her, `Surely with thee we go back to thy people.'

y le dijeron: Ciertamente nosotras iremos contigo a tu pueblo.

11 A nd Naomi saith, `Turn back, my daughters; why do ye go with me? are there yet to me sons in my bowels that they have been to you for husbands?

Y Noemí respondió: Volveos, hijas mías; ¿para qué habéis de ir conmigo? ¿Tengo yo más hijos en el vientre, que puedan ser vuestros maridos?

12 T urn back, my daughters, go, for I am too aged to be to a husband; though I had said, There is for me hope, also, I have been to-night to a husband, and also I have borne sons:

Volveos, hijas mías, e idos; porque yo ya soy vieja para tener marido. Y aunque dijese: Esperanza tengo, y esta noche estuviese con marido, y aun diese a luz hijos,

13 f or them do ye wait till that they grow up? for them do ye shut yourselves up, not to be to a husband? nay, my daughters, for more bitter to me than to you, for the hand of Jehovah hath gone out against me.'

¿habíais vosotras de esperarlos hasta que fuesen grandes? ¿Habíais de quedaros sin casar por amor a ellos? No, hijas mías; que mayor amargura tengo yo que vosotras, pues la mano de Jehová pesa contra mí.

14 A nd they lift up their voice, and weep again, and Orpah kisseth her mother-in-law, and Ruth hath cleaved to her.

Y ellas alzaron otra vez su voz y lloraron; y Orfá besó a su suegra, mas Rut se quedó abrazada a ella.

15 A nd she saith, `Lo, thy sister-in-law hath turned back unto her people, and unto her god, turn thou back after thy sister-in-law.'

Y Noemí dijo: He aquí tu cuñada se ha vuelto a su pueblo y a sus dioses; vuélvete tú tras ella.

16 A nd Ruth saith, `Urge me not to leave thee -- to turn back from after thee; for whither thou goest I go, and where thou lodgest I lodge; thy people my people, and thy God my God.

Respondió Rut: No me ruegues que te deje, y me aparte de ti; porque adondequiera que tú vayas, iré yo, y dondequiera que vivas, viviré. Tu pueblo será mi pueblo, y tu Dios mi Dios.

17 W here thou diest I die, and there I am buried; thus doth Jehovah to me, and thus doth He add -- for death itself doth part between me and thee.'

Donde tú mueras, moriré yo, y allí seré sepultada; así me haga Jehová, y aun me añada, que sólo la muerte hará separación entre nosotras dos.

18 A nd she seeth that she is strengthening herself to go with her, and she ceaseth to speak unto her;

Y viendo Noemí que estaba tan resuelta a ir con ella, no dijo más.

19 a nd they go both of them till their coming in to Beth-Lehem; and it cometh to pass at their coming in to Beth-Lehem, that all the city is moved at them, and they say, `Is this Naomi?'

Anduvieron, pues, ellas dos hasta que llegaron a Belén; y aconteció que habiendo entrado en Belén, toda la ciudad se conmovió por causa de ellas, y decían: ¿No es ésta Noemí?

20 A nd she saith unto them, `Call me not Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly to me,

Y ella les respondía: No me llaméis Noemí, sino llamadme Mara, porque en grande amargura me ha puesto el Todopoderoso.

21 I went out full, and empty hath Jehovah brought me back, why do ye call me Naomi, and Jehovah hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath done evil to me?'

Yo me fui llena, pero Jehová me ha vuelto con las manos vacías. ¿Por qué me llamaréis Noemí, ya que Jehová ha dado testimonio contra mí, y el Todopoderoso me ha afligido?

22 A nd Naomi turneth back, and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law with her, who hath turned back from the fields of Moab, and they have come in to Beth-Lehem at the commencement of barley-harvest.

Así volvió Noemí, y Rut la moabita su nuera con ella; vinieron de los campos de Moab, y llegaron a Belén al comienzo de la siega de la cebada.
