1 A nd Rehoboam goeth to Shechem, for to Shechem hath all Israel come to make him king.

Roboam fue a Siquem, porque todo Israel había venido a Siquem para hacerle rey.

2 A nd it cometh to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat's hearing (and he yet in Egypt where he hath fled from the presence of Solomon the king, and Jeroboam dwelleth in Egypt),

Y aconteció que cuando lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nebat, que aún estaba en Egipto, adonde había huido de delante del rey Salomón, y habitaba en Egipto,

3 t hat they send and call for him; and they come -- Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel -- and speak unto Rehoboam, saying,

enviaron a llamarle. Vino, pues, Jeroboam, y toda la congregación de Israel, y hablaron a Roboam, diciendo:

4 ` Thy father made hard our yoke, and thou, now, make light of the hard service of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we serve thee.'

Tu padre hizo pesado nuestro yugo, mas ahora disminuye tú algo de la dura servidumbre de tu padre, y del yugo pesado que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos.

5 A nd he saith unto them, `Go -- yet three days, and come back unto me;' and the people go.

Y él les dijo: Id, y de aquí a tres días volved a mí. Y el pueblo se fue.

6 A nd king Rehoboam consulteth with the elders who have been standing in the presence of Solomon his father, in his being alive, saying, `How are ye counselling to answer this people?'

Entonces el rey Roboam pidió consejo de los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y dijo: ¿Qué me aconsejáis vosotros que responda a este pueblo?

7 A nd they speak unto him, saying, `If, to-day, thou art servant to this people, and hast served them, and answered them, and spoken unto them good words, then they have been to thee servants all the days.'

Y ellos le hablaron diciendo: Si tú te haces hoy servidor de este pueblo y les hablas buenas palabras, ellos te servirán para siempre.

8 A nd he forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him, and consulteth with the lads who have grown up with him, who are standing before him;

Pero él dejó el consejo que los ancianos le habían dado, y pidió consejo de los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, y estaban a su servicio.

9 a nd he saith unto them, `What are ye counselling, and we answer this people, who have spoken unto me, saying, Lighten of the yoke that thy father put upon us?'

Y les dijo: ¿Qué me aconsejáis vosotros que responda a este pueblo, que me ha hablado diciendo: Disminuye algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros?

10 A nd they speak unto him -- the lads who had grown up with him -- saying, `Thus dost thou say to this people who have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou, make light upon us; thus dost thou speak unto them, My little is thicker than the loins of my father;

Entonces los jóvenes que se habían criado con él le respondieron diciendo: Así hablarás a este pueblo que te ha dicho: Tu padre hizo pesado nuestro yugo, mas tú disminúyenos algo; esto debes responderles: El menor dedo de los míos es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre.

11 a nd now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- I chastise you with scorpions.'

Ahora, pues, mi padre os cargó de pesado yugo, mas yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, mas yo os castigaré con escorpiones.

12 A nd they come -- Jeroboam and all the people -- unto Rehoboam, on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, `Come back unto me on the third day.'

Al tercer día vino Jeroboam con todo el pueblo a Roboam, según el rey lo había mandado, diciendo: Volved a mí al tercer día.

13 A nd the king answereth the people sharply, and forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him,

Y el rey respondió al pueblo duramente, dejando el consejo que los ancianos le habían dado;

14 a nd speaketh unto them, according to the counsel of the lads, saying, `My father made your yoke heavy, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- I chastise you with scorpions;'

y les habló conforme al consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo: Mi padre hizo pesado vuestro yugo, pero yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, mas yo os castigaré con escorpiones.

15 a nd the king hearkened not unto the people, for the revolution was from Jehovah, in order to establish His word that Jehovah spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat.

Y no oyó el rey al pueblo; porque era designio de Jehová para confirmar la palabra que Jehová había hablado por medio de Ahías silonita a Jeroboam hijo de Nebat.

16 A nd all Israel see that the king hath not hearkened unto them, and the people send the king back word, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in the son of Jesse; to thy tents, O Israel; now see thy house, O David!' and Israel goeth to its tents.

Cuando todo el pueblo vio que el rey no les había oído, le respondieron diciendo: ¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No tenemos heredad en el hijo de Isay. ¡Israel, a tus tiendas! ¡Provee ahora en tu casa, David! Entonces Israel se fue a sus tiendas.

17 A s to the sons of Israel, those dwelling in the cities of Judah -- over them reign doth Rehoboam.

Pero reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que moraban en las ciudades de Judá.

18 A nd king Rehoboam sendeth Adoram who over the tribute, and all Israel cast at him stones, and he dieth; and king Rehoboam hath strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;

Y el rey Roboam envió a Adoram, que estaba sobre los tributos; pero lo apedreó todo Israel, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se apresuró a subirse en un carro y huir a Jerusalén.

19 a nd Israel transgresseth against the house of David unto this day.

Así se apartó Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy.

20 A nd it cometh to pass, at all Israel's hearing that Jeroboam hath returned, that they send and call him unto the company, and cause him to reign over all Israel; none hath been after the house of David save the tribe of Judah alone.

Y aconteció que oyendo todo Israel que Jeroboam había vuelto, enviaron a llamarle a la congregación, y le hicieron rey sobre todo Israel, sin quedar tribu alguna que siguiese a la casa de David, sino sólo la tribu de Judá.

21 A nd Rehoboam cometh to Jerusalem, and assembleth all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to fight with the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon.

Y cuando Roboam vino a Jerusalén, reunió a toda la casa de Judá y a la tribu de Benjamín, ciento ochenta mil hombres, guerreros escogidos, con el fin de combatir contra la casa de Israel, y devolver el reino a Roboam hijo de Salomón.

22 A nd the word of God is unto Shemaiah a man of God, saying,

Pero vino palabra de Jehová a Semaías varón de Dios, diciendo:

23 ` Speak unto Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and the rest of the people, saying,

Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a toda la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, y a los demás del pueblo, diciendo:

24 T hus said Jehovah, Ye do not go up nor fight with your brethren the sons of Israel; turn back each to his house, for from Me hath this thing been;' and they hear the word of Jehovah, and turn back to go according to the word of Jehovah.

Así ha dicho Jehová: No vayáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos los hijos de Israel; volveos cada uno a su casa, porque esto lo he hecho yo. Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Dios, y volvieron y se fueron, conforme a la palabra de Jehová. El pecado de Jeroboam

25 A nd Jeroboam buildeth Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and dwelleth in it, and goeth out thence, and buildeth Penuel;

Entonces Jeroboam reedificó Siquem en el monte de Efraín, y habitó en ella; y saliendo de allí, fortificó Penuel.

26 a nd Jeroboam saith in his heart, `Now doth the kingdom turn back to the house of David --

Y dijo Jeroboam en su corazón: Ahora se volverá el reino a la casa de David,

27 i f this people go up to make sacrifices in the house of Jehovah in Jerusalem, then hath the heart of this people turned back unto their lord, unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they have slain me, and turned back unto Rehoboam king of Judah.'

si este pueblo continúa subiendo a ofrecer sacrificios en la casa de Jehová en Jerusalén; porque el corazón de este pueblo se volverá a su señor Roboam rey de Judá, y me matarán a mí, y se volverán a Roboam rey de Judá.

28 A nd the king taketh counsel, and maketh two calves of gold, and saith unto them, `Enough to you of going up to Jerusalem; lo, thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

Y habiendo tenido consejo, hizo el rey dos becerros de oro, y dijo al pueblo: Bastante habéis subido a Jerusalén; he aquí tus dioses, oh Israel, los cuales te hicieron subir de la tierra de Egipto.

29 A nd he setteth the one in Beth-El, and the other he hath put in Dan,

Y puso uno en Betel, y el otro en Dan.

30 a nd this thing becometh a sin, and the people go before the one -- unto Dan.

Y esto fue causa de pecado; porque el pueblo iba a adorar delante de uno u otro hasta Dan.

31 A nd he maketh the house of high places, and maketh priests of the extremities of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi;

Hizo también casas sobre los lugares altos, e hizo sacerdotes de entre el pueblo, que no eran de los hijos de Leví.

32 a nd Jeroboam maketh a festival in the eighth month, in the fifteenth day of the month, like the festival that in Judah, and he offereth on the altar -- so did he in Beth-El -- to sacrifice to the calves which he made, and he hath appointed in Beth-El the priests of the high places that he made.

Entonces instituyó Jeroboam fiesta solemne en el mes octavo, a los quince días del mes, conforme a la fiesta solemne que se celebraba en Judá; y sacrificó sobre un altar. Así hizo en Betel, ofreciendo sacrificios a los becerros que había hecho. Ordenó también en Betel sacerdotes para los lugares altos que él había construido.

33 A nd he offereth up on the altar that he made in Beth-El, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month that he devised of his own heart, and he maketh a festival to the sons of Israel, and offereth on the altar -- to make perfume.

Sacrificó, pues, sobre el altar que él había hecho en Betel, a los quince días del mes octavo, el mes que él había inventado de su propio corazón; e hizo fiesta a los hijos de Israel, y subió al altar para quemar incienso.
