1 A nd they come nigh -- all the heads of the forces, and Johanan son of Kareah, and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest --

Vinieron todos los oficiales de la gente de guerra, y Johanán, hijo de Carea, Jezanías, hijo de Osaías, y todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,

2 a nd they say unto Jeremiah the prophet, `Let, we pray thee, our supplication fall before thee, and pray for us unto Jehovah thy God, for all this remnant; for we have been left a few out of many, as thine eyes do see us;

y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: Acepta ahora nuestro ruego delante de ti, y ruega por nosotros a Jehová tu Dios por todo este resto (pues de muchos hemos quedado unos pocos, como puedes ver),

3 a nd Jehovah thy God doth declare to us the way in which we walk, and the thing that we do.'

para que Jehová tu Dios nos enseñe el camino por donde vayamos, y lo que hemos de hacer.

4 A nd Jeremiah the prophet saith unto them, `I have heard: lo, I am praying unto Jehovah your God according to your words, and it hath come to pass, the whole word that Jehovah answereth you, I declare to you -- I do not withhold from you a word.'

Y el profeta Jeremías les dijo: He oído. He aquí que voy a orar a Jehová vuestro Dios, como habéis dicho, y todo lo que Jehová os responda, os lo declararé, sin ocultaros nada.

5 A nd they have said to Jeremiah, `Jehovah is against us for a witness true and faithful, if -- according to all the word with which Jehovah thy God doth send thee unto us -- we do not so.

Y ellos dijeron a Jeremías: Jehová sea entre nosotros testigo veraz y fiel, si no hacemos conforme a todo el mensaje que Jehová tu Dios te dé para nosotros.

6 W hether good or evil, to the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we are sending thee, we do hearken; because it is good for us when we hearken to the voice of Jehovah our God.'

Sea grato o sea ingrato, obedeceremos a la voz de Jehová nuestro Dios al cual te enviamos, para que obedeciendo a la voz de Jehová nuestro Dios, nos vaya bien.

7 A nd it cometh to pass, at the end of ten days, that there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah,

Aconteció que al cabo de diez días vino palabra de Jehová a Jeremías.

8 a nd he calleth unto Johanan son of Kareah, and unto all the heads of the forces that with him, and to all the people, from the least even unto the greatest,

Y llamó a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a todos los oficiales de la gente de guerra que con él estaban, y a todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor;

9 a nd he saith unto them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me, to cause your supplication to fall before Him:

y les dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová Dios de Israel, al cual me enviasteis para presentar vuestros ruegos en su presencia:

10 ` If ye do certainly dwell in this land, then I have builded you up, and I throw not down; and I have planted you, and I pluck not up; for I have repented concerning the evil that I have done to you.

Si os quedáis quietos en esta tierra, os edificaré, y no os destruiré; os plantaré, y no os arrancaré; porque estoy arrepentido del mal que os he hecho.

11 B e not afraid of the king of Babylon, whom ye are afraid of; be not afraid of him -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- for with you I, to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

No temáis al rey de Babilonia, del cual tenéis temor; no le temáis, ha dicho Jehová, porque con vosotros estoy yo para salvaros y libraros de su mano;

12 A nd I give to you mercies, and he hath pitied you, and caused you to turn back unto your own ground.

y tendré compasión de vosotros, para que él tenga compasión de vosotros y os haga regresar a vuestra tierra.

13 ` And if ye are saying, We do not dwell in this land -- not to hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God,

Mas si decís: No moraremos en esta tierra, no obedeciendo así a la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios,

14 s aying, No; but the land of Egypt we enter, that we see no war, and the sound of a trumpet do not hear, and for bread be not hungry; and there do we dwell.

diciendo: No, sino que entraremos en la tierra de Egipto, en la cual no veremos guerra, ni oiremos sonido de trompeta, ni padeceremos hambre de pan, y allí moraremos;

15 A nd now, therefore, hear ye a word of Jehovah, O remnant of Judah: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: If ye really set your faces to enter Egypt, and have gone in to sojourn there,

pues bien, en este caso oíd palabra de Jehová, remanente de Judá: Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Si vosotros estáis completamente resueltos a marcharos a Egipto para morar allí,

16 t hen it hath come to pass, the sword that ye are afraid of, doth there overtake you, in the land of Egypt; and the hunger, because of which ye are sorrowful, doth there cleave after you in Egypt, and there ye die.

sucederá que la espada que teméis, os alcanzará allí en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre de que tenéis temor, allá en Egipto os perseguirá; y allí moriréis.

17 ` Thus are all the men who have set their faces to enter Egypt to sojourn there; they die -- by sword, by hunger, and by pestilence, and there is not to them a remnant and an escaped one, because of the evil that I am bringing in upon them;

Así sucederá a cuantos resuelvan irse a Egipto para morar allí; morirán a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia; no habrá de ellos quien quede vivo, ni quien escape delante del mal que traeré yo sobre ellos.

18 f or thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: As poured out hath been Mine anger and My fury on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so poured out is My fury upon you in your entering Egypt, and ye have been for an execration, and for an astonishment, and for a reviling, and for a reproach, and ye do not see any more this place.

Porque así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Como se derramó mi enojo y mi ira sobre los moradores de Jerusalén, así se derramará mi ira sobre vosotros cuando entréis en Egipto; y seréis objeto de execración y de espanto, y de maldición y de afrenta; y no veréis más este lugar.

19 ` Jehovah hath spoken against you, O remnant of Judah, do not enter Egypt: know certainly that I have testified against you to-day;

Jehová ha hablado acerca de vosotros, oh remanente de Judá: No vayáis a Egipto; sabed ciertamente que os lo aviso hoy;

20 f or ye have shewed yourselves perverse in your souls, for ye sent me unto Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us unto Jehovah our God, and according to all that Jehovah our God saith, so declare to us, and we have done;

porque estáis obrando engañosamente contra vuestras almas; pues vosotros me enviasteis a Jehová vuestro Dios, diciendo: Ora por nosotros a Jehová nuestro Dios, y haznos saber todas las cosas que Jehová nuestro Dios diga, y lo haremos.

21 a nd I declare to you to-day, and ye have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah your God, and to anything with which He hath sent me unto you.

Y os lo he declarado hoy, pero no habéis obedecido a la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios en ninguna de las cosas por las cuales me envió a vosotros.

22 A nd now, know ye certainly that by sword, by famine, and by pestilence ye die, in the place that ye have desired to go in to sojourn there.'

Ahora, pues, sabed de cierto que moriréis a espada, de hambre y de pestilencia en el lugar donde deseáis entrar para morar allí.
