1 A nd there was a certain man in Cesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a band called Italian,

Había en Cesarea un hombre llamado Cornelio, centurión de la compañía llamada la Italiana,

2 p ious, and fearing God with all his house, doing also many kind acts to the people, and beseeching God always,

piadoso y temeroso de Dios con toda su casa, y que hacía muchas limosnas al pueblo, y oraba a Dios continuamente.

3 h e saw in a vision manifestly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, `Cornelius;'

Éste vio claramente en una visión, como a la hora novena del día, que un ángel de Dios entraba donde él estaba, y le decía: Cornelio.

4 a nd he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, `What is it, Lord?' And he said to him, `Thy prayers and thy kind acts came up for a memorial before God,

Él, mirándole fijamente, y atemorizado, dijo: ¿Qué hay, Señor? Y le dijo: Tus oraciones y tus limosnas han subido como un memorial delante de Dios.

5 a nd now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter,

Envía, pues, ahora hombres a Jope, y haz venir a Simón, el que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro.

6 t his one doth lodge with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one shall speak to thee what it behoveth thee to do.'

Éste se hospeda en casa de cierto Simón curtidor, que tiene su casa junto al mar; él te dirá lo que debes hacer.

7 A nd when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his domestics, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,

Tan pronto como se fue el ángel que hablaba con Cornelio, éste llamó a dos de sus criados, y a un devoto soldado de los que le servían constantemente;

8 a nd having declared to them all things, he sent them to Joppa.

a los cuales envió a Jope, después de haberles contado todo.

9 A nd on the morrow, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up upon the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour,

Al día siguiente, mientras ellos iban por el camino y se acercaban a la ciudad, Pedro subió a la azotea para orar, cerca de la hora sexta.

10 a nd he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell upon him a trance,

Sintió hambre, y quiso comer; pero mientras le preparaban algo, le sobrevino un éxtasis;

11 a nd he doth behold the heaven opened, and descending unto him a certain vessel, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down upon the earth,

y vio el cielo abierto, y que descendía algo semejante a un gran lienzo, que atado de las cuatro puntas era bajado a la tierra;

12 i n which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven,

en el cual había de todos los cuadrúpedos terrestres y reptiles y aves del cielo.

13 a nd there came a voice unto him: `Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.'

Y le vino una voz: Levántate, Pedro, mata y come.

14 A nd Peter said, `Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean;'

Entonces Pedro dijo: Señor, de ningún modo; porque no he comido jamás ninguna cosa común o inmunda.

15 a nd a voice again a second time unto him: `What God did cleanse, thou, declare not thou common;'

Volvió la voz a él la segunda vez: Lo que Dios ha purificado, no lo llames tú común.

16 a nd this was done thrice, and again was the vessel received up to the heaven.

Esto se hizo tres veces; y aquel lienzo volvió a ser recogido en el cielo.

17 A nd as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, lo, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,

Y mientras Pedro estaba perplejo dentro de sí pensando qué podría significar la visión que había visto, los hombres que habían sido enviados por Cornelio, después de preguntar por la casa de Simón, llegaron a la puerta.

18 a nd having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, doth lodge here?

Y llamando, preguntaron si se hospedaba allí un Simón que tenía por sobrenombre Pedro.

19 A nd Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, `Lo, three men do seek thee;

Y mientras Pedro meditaba sobre la visión, le dijo el Espíritu: Mira, te buscan tres hombres.

20 b ut having risen, go down and go on with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them;'

Levántate, pues, y desciende, y vete con ellos sin vacilar, porque yo los he enviado.

21 a nd Peter having come down unto the men who have been sent from Cornelius unto him, said, `Lo, I am he whom ye seek, what the cause for which ye are present?'

Entonces Pedro, descendiendo adonde estaban los hombres que habían sido enviados por Cornelio, les dijo: Mirad, yo soy el que buscáis; ¿cuál es la causa por la que habéis venido?

22 A nd they said, `Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for thee, to his house, and to hear sayings from thee.'

Ellos dijeron: Cornelio el centurión, varón justo y temeroso de Dios, y que tiene buen testimonio en toda la nación de los judíos, ha recibido instrucciones de un santo ángel, de hacerte venir a su casa para escuchar las palabras que tú hables.

23 H aving called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the morrow Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him,

Entonces, haciéndoles entrar, los hospedó. Y al día siguiente, levantándose, se fue con ellos; y le acompañaron algunos de los hermanos de Jope.

24 a nd on the morrow they did enter into Cesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kindred and near friends,

Al día siguiente entraron en Cesarea. Y Cornelio los estaba esperando, habiendo convocado a sus parientes y amigos más íntimos.

25 a nd as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at feet, did bow before;

Cuando Pedro entró, salió Cornelio a su encuentro, y postrándose a sus pies, adoró.

26 a nd Peter raised him, saying, `Stand up; I also myself am a man;'

Mas Pedro le levantó, diciendo: Levántate, pues yo mismo también soy hombre.

27 a nd talking with him he went in, and doth find many having come together.

Y conversando con él, entró, y halló a muchos que se habían reunido.

28 A nd he said unto them, `Ye know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come unto, one of another race, but to me God did shew to call no man common or unclean;

Y les dijo: Vosotros conocéis perfectamente cuán abominable es para un varón judío juntarse o acercarse a un extranjero; pero a mí me ha mostrado Dios que a ningún hombre llame común o inmundo;

29 t herefore also without gainsaying I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter ye did send for me?'

por lo cual, al ser llamado, vine sin replicar. Así que pregunto: ¿Por qué causa me habéis hecho venir?

30 A nd Cornelius said, `Four days ago till this hour, I was fasting, and the ninth hour praying in my house, and, lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

Entonces Cornelio dijo: Hace cuatro días que a esta hora yo estaba en ayunas; y a la hora novena, mientras oraba en mi casa, vi que se puso delante de mí un varón con vestiduras resplandecientes,

31 a nd he said, Cornelius, thy prayer was heard, and thy kind acts were remembered before God;

y dijo: Cornelio, tu oración ha sido escuchada, y tus limosnas han sido recordadas delante de Dios.

32 s end, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one doth lodge in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, shall speak to thee;

Envía, pues, a Jope, y haz venir a Simón el que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro, el cual se hospeda en casa de Simón, un curtidor, junto al mar; y cuando llegue, él te hablará.

33 a t once, therefore, I sent to thee; thou also didst do well, having come; now, therefore, are we all before God present to hear all things that have been commanded thee by God.'

Así que luego envié por ti; y tú has hecho bien en venir. Ahora, pues, todos nosotros estamos aquí en la presencia de Dios, para oír todo lo que Dios te ha ordenado.

34 A nd Peter having opened his mouth, said, `Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,

Entonces Pedro, abriendo la boca, dijo: En verdad comprendo que Dios no hace acepción de personas,

35 b ut in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;

sino que en toda nación, el que le teme y practica lo que es justo, le es acepto.

36 t he word that he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news -- peace through Jesus Christ (this one is Lord of all,)

Él envió la palabra a los hijos de Israel, anunciando el evangelio de la paz por medio de Jesucristo; éste es Señor de todos.

37 y e -- ye have known; -- the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached;

Vosotros sabéis lo que se divulgó por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea, después del bautismo que predicó Juan:

38 J esus who from Nazareth -- how God did anoint him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the devil, because God was with him;

cómo ungió Dios con el Espíritu Santo y con poder a Jesús de Nazaret, y cómo éste pasó haciendo el bien y sanando a todos los oprimidos por el diablo, porque Dios estaba con él.

39 a nd we -- we are witnesses of all things that he did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem, -- whom they did slay, having hanged upon a tree.

Y nosotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que hizo en la tierra de Judea y en Jerusalén; a quien mataron colgándole en un madero.

40 ` This one God did raise up the third day, and gave him to become manifest,

A éste, Dios le resucitó al tercer día, y le concedió hacerse visible;

41 n ot to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God -- to us who did eat with, and did drink with him, after his rising out of the dead;

no a todo el pueblo, sino a los testigos que Dios había escogido de antemano, a nosotros que comimos y bebimos con él después que resucitó de los muertos.

42 a nd he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify fully that it is he who hath been ordained by God judge of living and dead --

Y nos encargó que predicásemos al pueblo, y testificásemos solemnemente que él es el designado por Dios como Juez de vivos y muertos.

43 t o this one do all the prophets testify, that through his name every one that is believing in him doth receive remission of sins.'

De éste dan testimonio todos los profetas, que todo el que crea en él, recibirá perdón de pecados por su nombre.

44 W hile Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy spirit fell upon all those hearing the word,

Mientras aún hablaba Pedro estas palabras, el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que oían el mensaje.

45 a nd those of the circumcision believing were astonished -- as many as came with Peter -- because also upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit hath been poured out,

Y todos los creyentes que eran de la circuncisión y habían venido con Pedro, se quedaron atónitos de que el don del Espíritu Santo se hubiese derramado también sobre los gentiles.

46 f or they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.

Porque los oían que hablaban en lenguas, y que magnificaban a Dios.

47 T hen answered Peter, `The water is any one able to forbid, that these may not be baptized, who the Holy Spirit did receive -- even as also we?'

Entonces respondió Pedro: ¿Puede acaso alguno impedir el agua, para que no sean bautizados estos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo también como nosotros?

48 h e commanded them also to be baptized in the name of the Lord; then they besought him to remain certain days.

Y ordenó que fuesen bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús. Entonces le rogaron que se quedase por algunos días.
