1 A nd it cometh to pass after this, the sons of Moab have come in, and the sons of Ammon, and with them of the peoples, against Jehoshaphat to battle.

Pasadas estas cosas, aconteció que los hijos de Moab y de Amón, y con ellos otros de los amonitas, vinieron contra Josafat a la guerra.

2 A nd they come in and declare to Jehoshaphat, saying, `Come against thee hath a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram, and lo, they in Hazezon-Tamar -- it En-Gedi.'

Y acudieron algunos y dieron aviso a Josafat, diciendo: Contra ti viene una gran multitud del otro lado del mar, y de Siria; y he aquí están en Hazezón-tamar, que es Engedi.

3 A nd Jehoshaphat feareth, and setteth his face to seek to Jehovah, and proclaimeth a fast over all Judah;

Entonces él tuvo temor; y Josafat humilló su rostro para consultar a Jehová, e hizo pregonar ayuno a todo Judá.

4 a nd Judah is gathered to inquire of Jehovah; also, from all the cities of Judah they have come in to seek Jehovah.

Y se reunieron los de Judá para pedir socorro a Jehová; y también de todas las ciudades de Jehová vinieron a pedir ayuda a Jehová.

5 A nd Jehoshaphat standeth in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, at the front of the new court,

Entonces Josafat se puso en pie en la asamblea de Judá y de Jerusalén, en la casa de Jehová, delante del atrio nuevo;

6 a nd saith, `O Jehovah, God of our fathers, art not Thou -- God in the heavens? yea, Thou art ruling over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Thy hand power and might, and there is none with Thee to station himself.

y dijo: Jehová Dios de nuestros padres, ¿no eres tú Dios en los cielos, y tienes dominio sobre todos los reinos de las naciones? ¿No está en tu mano tal fuerza y poder, que no hay quien te resista?

7 ` Art not Thou our God? Thou hast dispossessed the inhabitants of this land from before Thy people Israel, and dost give it to the seed of Abraham Thy friend to the age,

Dios nuestro, ¿no echaste tú los moradores de esta tierra delante de tu pueblo Israel, y la diste a la descendencia de Abraham tu amigo para siempre?

8 a nd they dwell in it, and build to Thee in it a sanctuary for Thy name, saying,

Y ellos han habitado en ella, y te han edificado en ella santuario a tu nombre, diciendo:

9 I f evil doth come upon us -- sword, judgment, and pestilence, and famine -- we stand before this house, and before Thee, for Thy name in this house, and cry unto Thee out of our distress, and Thou dost hear and save.

Si viene sobre nosotros algún mal: espada de castigo, o pestilencia, o hambre, nos presentaremos delante de esta casa, y delante de ti (porque tu nombre está en esta casa), y a causa de nuestras tribulaciones clamaremos a ti, y tú nos oirás y salvarás.

10 ` And now, lo, sons of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom Thou didst not grant to Israel to go in against in their coming out of the land of Egypt, for they turned aside from off them and destroyed them not,

Ahora, pues, he aquí los hijos de Amón y de Moab, y los del monte de Seír, a cuya tierra no quisiste que pasase Israel cuando venía de la tierra de Egipto, sino que se apartase de ellos, y no los destruyese;

11 a nd lo, they are recompensing to us -- to come in to drive us out of Thy possession, that Thou hast caused us to possess.

he aquí ellos nos dan el pago viniendo a arrojarnos de la heredad que tú nos diste en posesión.

12 ` O our God, dost Thou not execute judgment upon them? for there is no power in us before this great multitude that hath come against us, and we know not what we do, but on Thee our eyes.'

¡Oh Dios nuestro!, ¿no los juzgarás tú? Porque en nosotros no hay fuerza contra tan gran multitud que viene contra nosotros; no sabemos qué hacer, y a ti volvemos nuestros ojos.

13 A nd all Judah are standing before Jehovah, also their infants, their wives, and their sons.

Y todo Judá estaba en pie delante de Jehová, con sus niños y sus mujeres y sus hijos.

14 A nd upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, hath the Spirit of Jehovah been, in the midst of the assembly,

Estaba allí Jahaziel hijo de Zacarías, hijo de Benaías, hijo de Jeiel, hijo de Matanías, levita, de los hijos de Asaf; sobre él vino el Espíritu de Jehová en medio de la asamblea,

15 a nd he saith, `Attend, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Jehovah to you, Ye fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you the battle, but for God.

y dijo: Oíd, Judá todo, y vosotros moradores de Jerusalén, y tú, rey Josafat. Jehová os dice así: No temáis ni os amedrentéis delante de esta multitud tan grande, porque no es vuestra la guerra, sino de Dios.

16 T o-morrow, go ye down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and ye have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel.

Bajad mañana contra ellos; he aquí que ellos subirán por la cuesta de Sis, y los hallaréis junto al arroyo, antes del desierto de Jeruel.

17 N ot for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem -- be not afraid nor fear ye -- to-morrow go out before them, and Jehovah with you.'

No tendréis que pelear vosotros en este caso; paraos, estad quietos, y ved la salvación de Jehová con vosotros. Oh Judá y Jerusalén, no temáis ni desmayéis; salid mañana contra ellos, porque Jehová estará con vosotros.

18 A nd Jehoshaphat boweth -- face to the earth -- and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Jehovah, to bow themselves to Jehovah.

Entonces Josafat se inclinó rostro a tierra, y asimismo todo Judá y los moradores de Jerusalén se postraron delante de Jehová, y adoraron a Jehová.

19 A nd the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Jehovah, God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.

Y se levantaron los levitas de los hijos de Coat y de los hijos de Coré, para alabar a Jehová el Dios de Israel a grandes voces.

20 A nd they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat hath stood and saith, `Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Jehovah your God, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper.'

Y al día siguiente se levantaron temprano y salieron al desierto de Técoa. Y mientras ellos salían, Josafat, puesto en pie, dijo: Oídme, Judá y moradores de Jerusalén. Creed en Jehová vuestro Dios, y estaréis seguros; creed a sus profetas, y seréis prosperados.

21 A nd he taketh counsel with the people, and appointeth singers to Jehovah, and those giving praise to the honour of holiness, in the going out before the armed, and saying, `Give ye thanks to Jehovah, for to the age His kindness.'

Y habido consejo con el pueblo, puso a algunos que cantasen y alabasen a Jehová, vestidos de ornamentos sagrados, mientras salía la gente armada, y que dijesen: Glorificad a Jehová, porque su misericordia es para siempre.

22 A nd at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Jehovah hath put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten,

Y cuando comenzaron a entonar cantos de alabanza, Jehová puso contra los hijos de Amón, de Moab y del monte de Seír, las emboscadas de ellos mismos que venían contra Judá, y se mataron los unos a los otros.

23 a nd the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbour, to destroy.

Porque los hijos de Amón y Moab se levantaron contra los del monte de Seír para matarlos y destruirlos; y cuando hubieron acabado con los del monte de Seír, cada cual ayudó a la destrucción de su compañero.

24 A nd Judah hath come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped,

Y luego que vino Judá a la torre del desierto, miraron hacia la multitud, y he aquí yacían ellos en tierra muertos, pues ninguno había escapado.

25 a nd Jehoshaphat cometh in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it abundant.

Viniendo entonces Josafat y su pueblo a despojarlos, hallaron entre los cadáveres muchas riquezas, así vestidos como alhajas preciosas, que tomaron para sí, tantos, que no los podían llevar; tres días estuvieron recogiendo el botín, porque era mucho.

26 A nd on the fourth day they have been assembled at the valley of Blessing, for there they blessed Jehovah: therefore they have called the name of that place, `Valley of Blessing,' unto this day.

Y al cuarto día se juntaron en el valle de Beracá; porque allí bendijeron a Jehová, y por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel paraje el valle de Beracá, hasta hoy.

27 A nd they turn back, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to go back unto Jerusalem with joy, for Jehovah hath made them rejoice over their enemies.

Y todo Judá y los de Jerusalén, y Josafat a la cabeza de ellos, volvieron para regresar a Jerusalén gozosos, porque Jehová les había dado gozo librándolos de sus enemigos.

28 A nd they come in to Jerusalem with psalteries, and with harps, and with trumpets, unto the house of Jehovah.

Y entraron en Jerusalén con salterios, arpas y trompetas, a la casa de Jehová.

29 A nd there is a fear of God on all kingdoms of the lands in their hearing that Jehovah hath fought with the enemies of Israel,

Y el terror de Dios cayó sobre todos los reinos de aquella tierra, cuando oyeron que Jehová había peleado contra los enemigos de Israel.

30 a nd the kingdom of Jehoshaphat is quiet, and his God giveth rest to him round about.

Y el reinado de Josafat fue tranquilo, porque su Dios le dio paz por todas partes. Resumen del reinado de Josafat

31 A nd Jehoshaphat reigneth over Judah, a son of thirty and five years in his reigning, and twenty and five years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Azubah daughter of Shilhi.

Así reinó Josafat sobre Judá; de treinta y cinco años era cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Azubá, hija de Silhí.

32 A nd he walketh in the way of his father Asa, and hath not turned aside from it, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.

Y anduvo en el camino de Asá su padre, sin apartarse de él, haciendo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová.

33 O nly, the high places have not turned aside, and still the people have not prepared their heart for the God of their fathers.

Con todo eso, los lugares altos no fueron quitados; pues el pueblo aún no había fijado su corazón en el Dios de sus padres.

34 A nd the rest of the matters of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, lo, they are written among the matters of Jehu son of Hanani, who hath been mentioned on the book of the kings of Israel.

Los demás hechos de Josafat, primeros y postreros, he aquí están escritos en la historia de Jehú hijo de Hananí, del cual se hace mención en el libro de los reyes de Israel.

35 A nd after this hath Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, (he did wickedly in doing),

Pasadas estas cosas, Josafat rey de Judá trabó amistad con Ocozías rey de Israel, el cual era dado a la impiedad,

36 a nd he joineth him with himself to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they make ships in Ezion-Geber,

e hizo con él compañía para construir naves que fuesen a Tarsis; y construyeron las naves de Ezyón-géber.

37 a nd prophesy doth Eliezer son of Dodavah, of Mareshah, against Jehoshaphat, saying, `For thy joining thyself with Ahaziah, Jehovah hath broken up thy works;' and the ships are broken, and have not retained to go unto Tarshish.

Entonces Eliezer hijo de Dodavá, de Maresá, profetizó contra Josafat, diciendo: Por cuanto has hecho compañía con Ocozías, Jehová destruirá tus obras. Y las naves se rompieron, y no pudieron ir a Tarsis.
