1 A nd it cometh to pass after this, the sons of Moab have come in, and the sons of Ammon, and with them of the peoples, against Jehoshaphat to battle.

Tiempo después, los moabitas y los amonitas, y algunos de los meunitas, declararon la guerra a Josafat.

2 A nd they come in and declare to Jehoshaphat, saying, `Come against thee hath a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram, and lo, they in Hazezon-Tamar -- it En-Gedi.'

No faltó quien le diera aviso a Josafat y le dijera: «Del otro lado del mar, y de Siria, viene a atacarte un gran ejército. ¡Ya están en Jasesón Tamar, es decir, en Engadí!»

3 A nd Jehoshaphat feareth, and setteth his face to seek to Jehovah, and proclaimeth a fast over all Judah;

Lleno de miedo, Josafat se dispuso a consultar al Señor, y ordenó que todos en Judá ayunaran.

4 a nd Judah is gathered to inquire of Jehovah; also, from all the cities of Judah they have come in to seek Jehovah.

En todas las ciudades de Judá la gente se reunió para pedir la ayuda del Señor,

5 A nd Jehoshaphat standeth in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, at the front of the new court,

y Josafat se puso de pie en el templo del Señor, delante del atrio nuevo, y ante la asamblea de Judá y de Jerusalén

6 a nd saith, `O Jehovah, God of our fathers, art not Thou -- God in the heavens? yea, Thou art ruling over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Thy hand power and might, and there is none with Thee to station himself.

dijo: «Señor y Dios de nuestros padres, tú eres Dios en los cielos, y dominas sobre todos los reinos de las naciones; en tus manos están la fuerza y el poder. ¡No hay quien pueda oponerse a ti!

7 ` Art not Thou our God? Thou hast dispossessed the inhabitants of this land from before Thy people Israel, and dost give it to the seed of Abraham Thy friend to the age,

Tú, Dios nuestro, expulsaste de la presencia de tu pueblo Israel a los habitantes de esta tierra, y se la diste para siempre a los descendientes de Abrahán, tu amigo.

8 a nd they dwell in it, and build to Thee in it a sanctuary for Thy name, saying,

Ellos la han habitado, y en ella te han edificado un santuario a tu nombre. Han dicho:

9 I f evil doth come upon us -- sword, judgment, and pestilence, and famine -- we stand before this house, and before Thee, for Thy name in this house, and cry unto Thee out of our distress, and Thou dost hear and save.

“Si alguna vez nos sobreviene algún mal, o se nos castiga con la espada, o la peste, o el hambre, nos presentaremos ante este templo, y ante ti (pues tu nombre se halla en este templo), y clamaremos a ti por causa de nuestras aflicciones, y tú nos oirás y nos salvarás.”

10 ` And now, lo, sons of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom Thou didst not grant to Israel to go in against in their coming out of the land of Egypt, for they turned aside from off them and destroyed them not,

¡Mira ahora a los amonitas y a los moabitas! ¡Mira a los del monte de Seir, por cuya tierra no dejaste pasar a Israel cuando venía de Egipto! Tú nos apartaste de ellos, para que no los destruyéramos,

11 a nd lo, they are recompensing to us -- to come in to drive us out of Thy possession, that Thou hast caused us to possess.

¡y ahora ellos nos pagan tratando de arrojarnos de la tierra que tú nos diste en propiedad!

12 ` O our God, dost Thou not execute judgment upon them? for there is no power in us before this great multitude that hath come against us, and we know not what we do, but on Thee our eyes.'

¡Dios nuestro! ¿acaso no los vas a juzgar? Nosotros no tenemos la fuerza suficiente para enfrentar a ese gran ejército que viene a atacarnos. ¡No sabemos qué hacer, y por eso volvemos a ti nuestra mirada!»

13 A nd all Judah are standing before Jehovah, also their infants, their wives, and their sons.

Todo Judá estaba de pie delante del Señor, con sus mujeres y sus hijos.

14 A nd upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, hath the Spirit of Jehovah been, in the midst of the assembly,

Allí estaba también Jahaziel, levita de los hijos de Asaf y descendiente en línea directa de Zacarías, Benaías, Yeguiel, Matanías. En el curso de la reunión, el espíritu del Señor vino sobre él,

15 a nd he saith, `Attend, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Jehovah to you, Ye fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you the battle, but for God.

y dijo: «¡Escúchenme ustedes, habitantes de Judá y de Jerusalén! ¡Y escúchame tú, rey Josafat! El Señor les dice: “No tengan miedo ni se amedrenten al ver esta gran multitud, porque esta batalla no la libran ustedes, sino Dios.

16 T o-morrow, go ye down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and ye have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel.

Mañana, cuando ellos suban por la cuesta de Sis, ustedes caerán sobre ellos. Los encontrarán junto al arroyo, antes del desierto de Jeruel.

17 N ot for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem -- be not afraid nor fear ye -- to-morrow go out before them, and Jehovah with you.'

En este caso, ustedes no tienen por qué pelear. Simplemente quédense quietos, y contemplen cómo el Señor los va a salvar. Judá y Jerusalén, no tengan miedo ni se desanimen. ¡Salgan mañana y atáquenlos, que el Señor estará con ustedes!”»

18 A nd Jehoshaphat boweth -- face to the earth -- and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Jehovah, to bow themselves to Jehovah.

Entonces Josafat se inclinó de cara al suelo, lo mismo que todos los de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén; se postraron delante del Señor, y lo adoraron.

19 A nd the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Jehovah, God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.

Luego se levantaron los levitas coatitas y coreítas, y a gran voz alabaron al Señor y Dios de Israel.

20 A nd they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat hath stood and saith, `Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Jehovah your God, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper.'

Por la mañana, se levantaron y fueron al desierto de Tecoa. Mientras ellos salían, Josafat se puso de pie y dijo: «¡Escúchenme, habitantes de Judá y de Jerusalén! ¡Crean en el Señor su Dios, y serán invencibles; crean en sus profetas, y obtendrán la victoria!»

21 A nd he taketh counsel with the people, and appointeth singers to Jehovah, and those giving praise to the honour of holiness, in the going out before the armed, and saying, `Give ye thanks to Jehovah, for to the age His kindness.'

Después de reunirse con el pueblo para ponerse de acuerdo con ellos, Josafat nombró a algunos para que, ataviados con sus vestimentas sagradas, cantaran alabanzas al Señor, mientras el ejército salía con sus armas. Y decían: «¡Demos gloria al Señor, porque su misericordia es eterna!»

22 A nd at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Jehovah hath put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten,

Cuando los cantos de alabanza comenzaron a escucharse, el Señor puso contra los amonitas y moabitas, y contra los del monte de Seir, las emboscadas que ellos mismos habían tendido contra Judá, y acabaron matándose los unos a los otros.

23 a nd the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbour, to destroy.

Los amonitas y moabitas atacaron a los del monte de Seir, y los mataron hasta acabar con ellos, y después de eso, se volvieron contra sus propios compañeros y los atacaron hasta destruirlos.

24 A nd Judah hath come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped,

Cuando los de Judá llegaron a la torre del desierto, dirigieron la mirada hacia el gran ejército, y sólo vieron cadáveres tendidos en el campo, pues ninguno de ellos había escapado con vida.

25 a nd Jehoshaphat cometh in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it abundant.

Entonces Josafat y su ejército se dieron a la tarea de despojarlos, y entre los cadáveres hallaron muchas riquezas, y vestidos y alhajas preciosas, y todo eso lo tomaron para sí. Era tanto el botín de guerra que no se lo podían llevar, así que durante tres días estuvieron recogiéndolo.

26 A nd on the fourth day they have been assembled at the valley of Blessing, for there they blessed Jehovah: therefore they have called the name of that place, `Valley of Blessing,' unto this day.

Al cuarto día se juntaron en el valle de Beraca, y allí bendijeron al Señor. Por eso al paraje aquel lo llamaron «Valle de Beraca», y hasta el día de hoy lleva ese nombre.

27 A nd they turn back, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to go back unto Jerusalem with joy, for Jehovah hath made them rejoice over their enemies.

Todos los de Judá y de Jerusalén volvieron a Jerusalén llenos de gozo por la alegría de que el Señor los había librado de sus enemigos. Al frente de ellos marchaba Josafat.

28 A nd they come in to Jerusalem with psalteries, and with harps, and with trumpets, unto the house of Jehovah.

Se dirigieron al templo del Señor en Jerusalén, entre el sonido de salterios, arpas y trompetas,

29 A nd there is a fear of God on all kingdoms of the lands in their hearing that Jehovah hath fought with the enemies of Israel,

y cuando todos los reinos de aquella región supieron que el Señor había peleado contra los enemigos de Israel, cayó sobre ellos el pavor de Dios.

30 a nd the kingdom of Jehoshaphat is quiet, and his God giveth rest to him round about.

Así el reinado de Josafat tuvo paz, porque su Dios le dio paz por todas partes. Resumen del reinado de Josafat

31 A nd Jehoshaphat reigneth over Judah, a son of thirty and five years in his reigning, and twenty and five years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Azubah daughter of Shilhi.

Josafat tenía treinta y cinco años cuando comenzó a reinar sobre Judá, y reinó en Jerusalén veinticinco años. Su madre fue Azuba hija de Siljí.

32 A nd he walketh in the way of his father Asa, and hath not turned aside from it, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.

Y Josafat siguió los pasos de Asa, su padre, haciendo lo recto ante los ojos del Señor y sin apartarse de sus caminos.

33 O nly, the high places have not turned aside, and still the people have not prepared their heart for the God of their fathers.

Sin embargo, no fueron quitados los lugares altos, pues el pueblo aún no había enderezado su corazón hacia el Dios de sus padres.

34 A nd the rest of the matters of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, lo, they are written among the matters of Jehu son of Hanani, who hath been mentioned on the book of the kings of Israel.

Los demás hechos de Josafat, primeros y últimos, están escritos en las palabras de Jehú hijo de Jananí, del cual se hace mención en el libro de los reyes de Israel.

35 A nd after this hath Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, (he did wickedly in doing),

Tiempo después, el rey Josafat de Judá hizo amistad con el rey Ocozías de Israel, que era proclive a la impiedad,

36 a nd he joineth him with himself to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they make ships in Ezion-Geber,

y se asoció con él para construir barcos en Ezión Guéber capaces de navegar hasta Tarsis.

37 a nd prophesy doth Eliezer son of Dodavah, of Mareshah, against Jehoshaphat, saying, `For thy joining thyself with Ahaziah, Jehovah hath broken up thy works;' and the ships are broken, and have not retained to go unto Tarshish.

Pero el profeta Eliezer hijo de Dodías, de Maresa, profetizó contra Josafat y le dijo: «Por haberte hecho amigo de Ocozías, el Señor destruirá tus obras.» Y las naves naufragaron y no pudieron llegar a Tarsis.
