1 L et me sing, I pray you, for my beloved, A song of my beloved as to his vineyard: My beloved hath a vineyard in a fruitful hill,

Quiero cantar ahora por mi amado el canto de mi amado a su viña: Mi amado tenía una viña en una ladera fértil.

2 A nd he fenceth it, and casteth out its stones, And planteth it a choice vine, And buildeth a tower in its midst, And also a wine press hath hewn out in it, And he waiteth for the yielding of grapes, And it yieldeth bad ones!

La cercó y la despejó de piedras, y luego plantó en ella vides escogidas; en medio del campo levantó una torre, y además construyó un lagar. Esperaba que su viña diera buenas uvas, pero dio uvas silvestres.

3 A nd now, O inhabitant of Jerusalem, and man of Judah, Judge, I pray you, between me and my vineyard.

Y ahora, habitantes de Jerusalén, hombres de Judá: juzguen entre mi viña y yo.

4 W hat -- to do still to my vineyard, That I have not done in it! Wherefore, I waited to the yielding of grapes, And it yieldeth bad ones!

¿Qué más podía hacerse a mi viña, que yo no le haya hecho? ¿Cómo es que dio uvas silvestres, cuando yo esperaba que diera buenas uvas?

5 A nd now, pray, let me cause you to know, That which I am doing to my vineyard, To turn aside its hedge, And it hath been for consumption, To break down its wall, And it hath been for a treading-place.

Pues voy a mostrarles lo que haré con mi viña: Le quitaré la cerca, para que sea consumida; abriré una brecha en su muralla, para que sea pisoteada.

6 A nd I make it a waste, It is not pruned, nor arranged, And gone up have brier and thorn, And on the thick clouds I lay a charge, From raining upon it rain.

Haré que se quede desierta. Nadie la podará ni la cultivará. Crecerán en ella cardos y espinos, y ordenaré a las nubes que no derramen lluvia sobre ella.

7 B ecause the vineyard of Jehovah of Hosts the house of Israel, And the man of Judah His pleasant plant, And He waiteth for judgment, and lo, oppression, For righteousness, and lo, a cry.

En realidad, la viña del Señor de los ejércitos es la casa de Israel, y los hombres de Judá son la planta en que él se complace. Esperaba él justicia, y sólo hay injusticia; equidad, y sólo hay iniquidad. Ayes sobre los malvados

8 W o those joining house to house, Field to field they bring near, till there is no place, And ye have been settled by yourselves In the midst of the land!

¡Ay de los que anexan una casa a otra casa, un terreno a otro terreno, hasta poseer todo lugar! ¿Acaso quieren todo el país para ustedes solos?

9 B y the weapons of Jehovah of Hosts Do not many houses a desolation become? Great and good without inhabitant!

Ha llegado a los oídos del Señor de los ejércitos, que muchas casas grandes y hermosas se quedarán en ruinas y sin que nadie las habite.

10 F or ten acres of vineyard do yield one bath, And an homer of seed yieldeth an ephah.

Las viñas que rendían diez barriles de vino rendirán un solo barril; ¡diez sacos de semilla rendirán un solo saco de trigo!

11 W o those rising early in the morning, Strong drink they pursue! Tarrying in twilight, wine inflameth them!

¡Ay de los que madrugan para emborracharse! ¡Ay de los que se desvelan para encenderse con el vino!

12 A nd harp, and psaltery, tabret, and pipe, And wine, have been their banquets, And the work of Jehovah they behold not, Yea, the work of His hands they have not seen.

En sus banquetes tienen arpas, liras, tamboriles, flautas y vino, pero no toman en cuenta la obra del Señor ni se fijan en la obra de sus manos.

13 T herefore my people removed without knowledge, And its honourable ones are famished, And its multitude dried up of thirst.

Por eso mi pueblo fue llevado cautivo: por su falta de conocimiento. Sus mejores hombres murieron de hambre; sus multitudes murieron de sed.

14 T herefore hath Sheol enlarged herself, And hath opened her mouth without limit. And gone down hath its honour, and its multitude, And its noise, and its exulting one -- into her.

Por eso el sepulcro ensanchó su garganta, y abrió sus desmesuradas fauces. ¡Al sepulcro bajará su esplendorosa multitud, con sus fiestas y su algarabía!

15 A nd bowed down is the low, and humbled the high, And the eyes of the haughty become low,

Ricos y pobres serán humillados; los de mirada altanera serán abatidos;

16 A nd Jehovah of Hosts is high in judgment, And the Holy God sanctified in righteousness,

pero el Señor de los ejércitos será exaltado con la justicia; el Dios Santo será santificado con la victoria.

17 A nd fed have lambs according to their leading, And waste places of the fat ones Do sojourners consume.

Los corderos serán apacentados como es la costumbre, pero gente extraña consumirá los desolados campos de los ricos.

18 W o those drawing out iniquity with cords of vanity, And as thick ropes of the cart -- sin.

¡Ay de los que atraen la iniquidad con cuerdas de vanidad, y el pecado con correas de carreta!

19 W ho are saying, `Let Him hurry, Let Him hasten His work, that we may see, And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel Draw near and come, and we know.'

¡Ay de los que dicen: «Que venga ya su obra y se dé prisa. Que se acerque y la veamos. Que venga el consejo del Santo de Israel, para que lo conozcamos»!

20 W o those saying to evil `good,' And to good `evil,' Putting darkness for light, and light for darkness, Putting bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.

¡Ay de los que llaman bueno a lo malo, y malo a lo bueno! ¡Ay de los que convierten la luz en tinieblas, y las tinieblas en luz! ¡Ay de que convierten lo amargo en dulce, y lo dulce en amargo!

21 W o the wise in their own eyes, And -- before their own faces -- intelligent!

¡Ay de los que se creen sabios! ¡Ay de los que se consideran muy inteligentes!

22 W o the mighty to drink wine, And men of strength to mingle strong drink.

¡Ay de los valientes para beber vino, de los audaces para mezclar bebidas!

23 D eclaring righteous the wicked for a bribe, And the righteousness of the righteous They turn aside from him.

¡Ay de los que mediante el soborno justifican al malvado y despojan de sus derechos al hombre honrado!

24 T herefore, as a tongue of fire devoureth stubble, And flaming hay falleth, Their root is as muck, And their flower as dust goeth up. Because they have rejected the law of Jehovah of Hosts, And the saying of the Holy One of Israel despised.

Por eso su raíz será como la podredumbre; por eso su flor se desvanecerá como el polvo, así como la llama del fuego consume el rastrojo y la lumbre devora la paja, porque despreciaron la enseñanza del Señor de los ejércitos y desdeñaron la palabra del Santo de Israel.

25 T herefore hath the anger of Jehovah burned among His people, And He stretcheth out His hand against it, And smiteth it, and the mountains tremble, And their carcase is as filth in the midst of the out-places. With all this His anger did not turn back, And still His hand is stretched out!

Por eso se encendió el furor del Señor contra su pueblo; por eso su mano se extendió contra él para herirlo; por eso se estremecieron los montes y sus cadáveres fueron arrojados a las calles. Y a pesar de todo esto, su furor no se ha calmado; su mano sigue aún extendida.

26 A nd He lifted up an ensign to nations afar off, And hissed to it from the end of the earth, And lo, with haste, swift it cometh.

Agitará una bandera para llamar a naciones lejanas; con un silbido llamará a los que están en los confines de la tierra; y estos vendrán con gran rapidez.

27 T here is none weary, nor stumbling in it, It doth not slumber, nor sleep, Nor opened hath been the girdle of its loins, Nor drawn away the latchet of its sandals.

Nadie entre ellos se mostrará cansado, ninguno de ellos tropezará ni se caerá de sueño; ninguno de ellos vendrá a medio vestir, ni con las correas de sus sandalias rotas.

28 W hose arrows sharp, and all its bows bent, Hoofs of its horses as flint have been reckoned, And its wheels as a hurricane!

Sus flechas ya estarán afiladas; todos sus arcos, bien tensados; los cascos de sus caballos parecerán pedernal; las ruedas de sus carros parecerán torbellinos.

29 I ts roaring like a lioness, It roareth like young lions, And it howleth, and seizeth prey, And carrieth away safely, and there is none delivering.

Rugirán como leones, como cachorros de león; rechinarán los dientes y atraparán a su presa, y se la llevarán a un lugar seguro, sin que nadie se la pueda arrebatar.

30 A nd it howleth against it in that day as the howling of a sea, And it hath looked attentively to the land, And lo, darkness -- distress, And light hath been darkened by its abundance!

Cuando llegue ese día, él bramará sobre ellos como brama el mar. Cuando mire hacia la tierra, sólo verá angustiosas tinieblas, y en sus cielos la luz será oscuridad.
