1 A fter these things and this truth, come hath Sennacherib king of Asshur, yea, he cometh in to Judah, and encampeth against the cities of the bulwarks, and saith to rend them unto himself.

Después de estas muestras de fidelidad, el rey Senaquerib de Asiria vino e invadió a Judá, y acampó contra las ciudades fortificadas, con la intención de conquistarlas.

2 A nd Hezekiah seeth that Sennacherib hath come, and his face to the battle against Jerusalem,

Al ver Ezequías que Senaquerib había venido con la intención de combatir a Jerusalén,

3 a nd he taketh counsel with his heads and his mighty ones, to stop the waters of the fountains that at the outside of the city -- and they help him,

se reunió con sus príncipes y con sus valientes, y con su apoyo acordaron cegar las fuentes de agua que estaban fuera de la ciudad.

4 a nd much people are gathered, and they stop all the fountains and the brook that is rushing into the midst of the land, saying, `Why do the kings of Asshur come, and have found much water?'

Mucha gente se reunió, y fueron cegadas todas las fuentes y el arroyo que corría a través del territorio, pues decían: «¿Por qué han de hallar los reyes de Asiria muchas aguas cuando vengan?»

5 A nd he strengtheneth himself, and buildeth the whole of the wall that is broken, and causeth to ascend unto the towers, and at the outside of the wall another, and strengtheneth Millo, the city of David, and maketh darts in abundance, and shields.

Después Ezequías tomó la decisión de reconstruir todos los muros caídos, hizo más altas las torres, y construyó otra muralla exterior; fortificó además a Milo, en la ciudad de David, y ordenó que se hicieran muchas espadas y escudos.

6 A nd he putteth heads of war over the people, and gathereth them unto him, unto the broad place of a gate of the city, and speaketh unto their heart, saying,

Puso capitanes de guerra al frente del ejército, y los reunió en la plaza a la entrada de la ciudad, y apelando a su corazón les dijo:

7 ` Be strong and courageous, be not afraid, nor be cast down from the face of the king of Asshur, and from the face of all the multitude that with him, for with us more than with him.

«¡Ánimo! ¡Esfuércense y no tengan miedo del rey de Asiria, ni de toda la multitud que viene con él! ¡Con nosotros está alguien que es más poderoso!

8 W ith him an arm of flesh, and with us Jehovah our God, to help us, and to fight our battles;' and the people are supported by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Él cuenta con el apoyo humano, pero nosotros contamos con el Señor nuestro Dios, para ayudarnos y dar la pelea por nosotros.» Y el pueblo confió en las palabras del rey Ezequías de Judá.

9 A fter this hath Sennacherib king of Asshur sent his servants to Jerusalem -- and he by Lachish, and all his power with him -- against Hezekiah king of Judah, and against all Judah, who in Jerusalem, saying,

Después de esto, mientras el rey Senaquerib de Asiria sitiaba a Laquis con todo su ejército, envió a Jerusalén unos mensajeros a decirle al rey Ezequías de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén:

10 ` Thus said Sennacherib king of Asshur, On what are ye trusting and abiding in the bulwark, in Jerusalem?

«Así dice Senaquerib, rey de los asirios: ¿En quién confían ustedes para resistir el sitio en Jerusalén?

11 ` Is not Hezekiah persuading you, to give you up to die by famine, and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God doth deliver us from the hand of the king of Asshur?

Ezequías los está engañando, al decirles que el Señor su Dios los va a librar de mi mano. Más bien, ¡los va a entregar a la muerte, al hambre y a la sed!

12 H ath not Hezekiah himself turned aside His high places, and His altars, and speaketh to Judah and to Jerusalem, saying, Before one altar ye bow yourselves, and on it ye make perfume?

¿Acaso no es Ezequías el mismo que ha derribado sus lugares altos y sus altares, y el que ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: “Sólo delante de este altar adorarán, y sobre él quemarán incienso”?

13 ` Do ye not know what I have done -- I and my fathers -- to all peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands at all able to deliver their land out of my hand?

¿Acaso no se han enterado de lo que mis padres y yo hemos hecho con todos los pueblos de la tierra? ¿Acaso los dioses de esas naciones pudieron librar de mi mano a su tierra?

14 W ho among all the gods of these nations whom my fathers have devoted to destruction he who hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your God is able to deliver you out of my hand?

Entre todos los dioses de las naciones que mis padres destruyeron, ¿qué dios hubo que pudiera salvar de mis manos a su pueblo? ¿Qué va a hacer el Dios de ustedes para librarlos de mi mano?

15 ` And, now, let not Hezekiah lift you up, nor persuade you thus, nor give credence to him, for no god of any nation and kingdom is able to deliver his people from my hand, and from the hand of my fathers: also, surely your God doth not deliver you from my hand!'

Que no los engañe Ezequías. No le crean, ni se dejen seducir. Si ninguno de los dioses de todas esas naciones y reinos pudo librar a su pueblo de mis manos, ni de las manos de mis padres, ¡mucho menos el Dios de ustedes va a poder librarlos de mi mano!»

16 A nd again have his servants spoken against Jehovah God, and against Hezekiah His servant,

Y los siervos de Senaquerib dijeron muchas cosas más en contra de Dios el Señor, y en contra de su siervo Ezequías.

17 a nd letters he hath written to give reproach to Jehovah, God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, `As the gods of the nations of the lands that have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah doth not deliver His people from my hand.'

Además, escribió cartas en las que blasfemaba contra el Señor y Dios de Israel, y hablaba contra él, pues decía: «Los dioses de otras naciones y países no pudieron librar de mis manos a su pueblo, ni tampoco el Dios de Ezequías podrá librar de mis manos al suyo.»

18 A nd they call with a great voice Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them, that they may capture the city,

Esto lo decían en lengua judaica al pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba sobre las murallas, y lo hacían a voz en cuello, para espantarlos y atemorizarlos, y poder así conquistar la ciudad.

19 a nd they speak against the God of Jerusalem as against the gods of the peoples of the land -- work of the hands of man.

Hablaban contra el Dios de Jerusalén como si hablaran contra los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, que son hechura humana. El Señor libra a Ezequías

20 A nd Hezekiah the king prayeth, and Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, concerning this, and they cry to the heavens,

Ante esto, el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz oraron y clamaron al cielo.

21 a nd Jehovah sendeth a messenger, and cutteth off every mighty one of valour -- both leader and head -- in the camp of the king of Asshur, and he turneth back with shame of face to his land, and entereth the house of his god, and those coming out of his bowels have caused him to fall there by the sword.

Entonces el Señor envió un ángel, que destruyó a los soldados más valientes del ejército del rey de Asiria, y también a sus jefes y capitanes. Y así, el rey de Asiria regresó avergonzado a su país, y allí sus propios hijos lo mataron a filo de espada en cuanto entró en el templo de su dios.

22 A nd Jehovah saveth Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Asshur, and from the hand of all, and He leadeth them round about;

Así fue como el Señor salvó a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de las manos del rey Senaquerib de Asiria, y de las manos de todos, y les dio reposo por todos lados.

23 a nd many are bringing in an offering to Jehovah, to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, and he is lifted up before the eyes of all the nations after this.

Entonces muchos trajeron a Jerusalén ofrendas para el Señor y ricos presentes para el rey Ezequías de Judá; y en consecuencia Ezequías fue engrandecido delante de todas las naciones. Enfermedad de Ezequías

24 I n those days hath Hezekiah been sick even unto death, and he prayeth unto Jehovah, and He speaketh to him, and a wonder hath appointed for him;

Por esos días Ezequías cayó gravemente enfermo, y casi murió. Pero oró al Señor, y el Señor le respondió y le dio una señal.

25 a nd Hezekiah hath not returned according to the deed unto him, for his heart hath been lofty, and there is wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem;

Pero Ezequías no correspondió al bien que le había sido hecho, sino que se envaneció su corazón, y por eso la ira de Dios vino contra él y contra Judá y Jerusalén.

26 a nd Hezekiah is humbled for the loftiness of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the wrath of Jehovah hath not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

Pero después de haberse enaltecido, Ezequías se humilló, y con él los habitantes de Jerusalén, y mientras Ezequías estuvo con vida, la ira del Señor no vino sobre ellos. Ezequías recibe a los enviados de Babilonia

27 A nd Hezekiah hath riches and honour very much, and treasures he hath made to himself of silver, and of gold, and of precious stone, and of spices, and of shields, and of all of desirable vessels,

Y tuvo Ezequías riquezas y gloria, muchas en gran manera; y adquirió tesoros de plata y oro, piedras preciosas, perfumes, escudos, y toda clase de joyas deseables.

28 a nd storehouses for the increase of corn, and new wine, and oil, and stalls for all kinds of cattle, and herds for stalls;

Asimismo hizo depósitos para las rentas del grano, del vino y del aceite, establos para toda clase de bestias, y apriscos para los ganados.

29 a nd cities he hath made for himself, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance, for God hath given to him very much substance.

Adquirió también ciudades, y hatos de ovejas y de vacas en gran abundancia; porque Dios le había dado muchas riquezas.

30 A nd Hezekiah himself hath stopped the upper source of the waters of Gihon, and directeth them beneath to the west of the city of David, and Hezekiah prospereth in all his work;

Este Ezequías cubrió los manantiales de Guijón la de arriba, y condujo el agua hacia el occidente de la ciudad de David. Y fue prosperado Ezequías en todo lo que hizo.

31 a nd so with the ambassadors of the heads of Babylon, those sending unto him to inquire of the wonder that hath been in the land, God hath left him to try him, to know all in his heart,

Pero en lo referente a los mensajeros de los príncipes de Babilonia, que enviaron a él para saber del prodigio que había acontecido en el país, Dios lo dejó, para probarle, para hacer conocer todo lo que estaba en su corazón. Muerte de Ezequías

32 A nd the rest of the matters of Hezekiah, and his kind acts, lo, they are written in the vision of Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

Los demás hechos de Ezequías, y sus misericordias, he aquí todos están escritos en la profecía del profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz, en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.

33 A nd Hezekiah lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the uppermost of the graves of the sons of David, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have done honour to him at his death, and reign doth Manasseh his son in his stead.

Finalmente, Ezequías descansó entre sus antepasados, y lo sepultaron en el lugar más prominente de los sepulcros de los hijos de David, honrándole en su muerte todo Judá y toda Jerusalén; y reinó en su lugar Manasés su hijo.
