1 A fter these things and this truth, come hath Sennacherib king of Asshur, yea, he cometh in to Judah, and encampeth against the cities of the bulwarks, and saith to rend them unto himself.

După aceste fapte de credincioşie, a venit Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei. El a intrat în Iuda şi şi-a aşezat tabăra în direcţia cetăţilor întărite, gândindu-se să le cucerească pentru sine.

2 A nd Hezekiah seeth that Sennacherib hath come, and his face to the battle against Jerusalem,

Când Ezechia a văzut că Sanherib a venit şi că vrea să lupte împotriva Ierusalimului,

3 a nd he taketh counsel with his heads and his mighty ones, to stop the waters of the fountains that at the outside of the city -- and they help him,

s-a sfătuit cu conducătorii şi cu războinicii săi ca să astupe izvoarele din afara cetăţii, iar aceştia l-au susţinut.

4 a nd much people are gathered, and they stop all the fountains and the brook that is rushing into the midst of the land, saying, `Why do the kings of Asshur come, and have found much water?'

S-a adunat mult popor care a astupat toate izvoarele şi uedul care curgea prin mijlocul ţinutului, căci îşi ziceau: „De ce să vină împăraţii Asiriei şi să găsească apă din belşug?“

5 A nd he strengtheneth himself, and buildeth the whole of the wall that is broken, and causeth to ascend unto the towers, and at the outside of the wall another, and strengtheneth Millo, the city of David, and maketh darts in abundance, and shields.

Ezechia s-a îmbărbătat şi a refăcut tot zidul spart, înălţându-l până la turnuri. El a mai înălţat încă un zid în afară, a întărit Milo din Cetatea lui David şi a făcut o mulţime de arme şi de scuturi.

6 A nd he putteth heads of war over the people, and gathereth them unto him, unto the broad place of a gate of the city, and speaketh unto their heart, saying,

El a numit căpetenii de război peste popor, i-a adunat în piaţeta dinaintea porţii cetăţii şi i-a încurajat astfel:

7 ` Be strong and courageous, be not afraid, nor be cast down from the face of the king of Asshur, and from the face of all the multitude that with him, for with us more than with him.

„Fiţi tari şi curajoşi! Nu vă temeţi şi nu vă înspăimântaţi din cauza împăratului Asiriei şi a întregii mulţimi care este cu el, căci mai mulţi sunt cu noi decât cu el!

8 W ith him an arm of flesh, and with us Jehovah our God, to help us, and to fight our battles;' and the people are supported by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Cu el este un braţ de carne, dar cu noi este Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ca să ne ajute şi să poarte bătăliile noastre!“ Poporul a avut încredere în cuvintele lui Ezechia, regele lui Iuda.

9 A fter this hath Sennacherib king of Asshur sent his servants to Jerusalem -- and he by Lachish, and all his power with him -- against Hezekiah king of Judah, and against all Judah, who in Jerusalem, saying,

După o vreme, Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei, în timp ce era înaintea Lachişului împreună cu toate forţele sale, i-a trimis pe slujitorii săi la Ierusalim, la Ezechia, regele lui Iuda, şi la întregul popor al lui Iuda aflat la Ierusalim, ca să le spună:

10 ` Thus said Sennacherib king of Asshur, On what are ye trusting and abiding in the bulwark, in Jerusalem?

„Aşa vorbeşte Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei: «În ce vă încredeţi voi de rămâneţi sub asediu în Ierusalim?

11 ` Is not Hezekiah persuading you, to give you up to die by famine, and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God doth deliver us from the hand of the king of Asshur?

Oare nu vă amăgeşte Ezechia, ca să vă dea morţii prin înfometare şi însetare, când vă spune: ‘ Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ne va izbăvi din mâna împăratului Asiriei!’?

12 H ath not Hezekiah himself turned aside His high places, and His altars, and speaketh to Judah and to Jerusalem, saying, Before one altar ye bow yourselves, and on it ye make perfume?

Oare nu Ezechia I-a îndepărtat înălţimile şi altarele, poruncind lui Iuda şi Ierusalimului: ‘Să vă închinaţi numai înaintea unui singur altar şi doar pe el să aduceţi tămâie!’?

13 ` Do ye not know what I have done -- I and my fathers -- to all peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands at all able to deliver their land out of my hand?

Nu ştiţi ce am făcut eu şi părinţii mei tuturor popoarelor celorlalte ţări? Au putut oare zeii neamurilor pământului să-şi izbăvească ţările din mâna mea?

14 W ho among all the gods of these nations whom my fathers have devoted to destruction he who hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your God is able to deliver you out of my hand?

Care dintre toţi zeii acestor neamuri, care au fost nimicite de părinţii mei, au putut să-şi izbăvească poporul din mâna mea? Prin urmare, cum va putea Dumnezeul vostru să vă izbăvească din mâna mea?

15 ` And, now, let not Hezekiah lift you up, nor persuade you thus, nor give credence to him, for no god of any nation and kingdom is able to deliver his people from my hand, and from the hand of my fathers: also, surely your God doth not deliver you from my hand!'

De aceea să nu-l lăsaţi pe Ezechia să vă amăgească! Nu-l lăsaţi să vă înşele astfel! Nu vă încredeţi în El, căci nici unul din zeii vreunui neam sau ai vreunui regat nu au putut să-şi izbăvească poporul din mâna mea şi din mâna părinţilor mei! Nici Dumnezeul vostru nu va putea să vă izbăvească din mâna mea!»“

16 A nd again have his servants spoken against Jehovah God, and against Hezekiah His servant,

Slujitorii săi au mai vorbit şi alte lucruri împotriva Domnului Dumnezeu şi împotriva lui Ezechia, slujitorul Său.

17 a nd letters he hath written to give reproach to Jehovah, God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, `As the gods of the nations of the lands that have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah doth not deliver His people from my hand.'

Sanherib mai scrisese şi scrisori ca să-L jignească pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, în care spunea despre El astfel: „Aşa cum zeii neamurilor pământului nu şi-au izbăvit popoarele din mâna mea, nici Dumnezeul lui Ezechia nu-Şi va izbăvi poporul din mâna mea!“

18 A nd they call with a great voice Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them, that they may capture the city,

Solii au proclamat aceasta, cu glas tare şi în limba iudaică, poporului din Ierusalim aflat pe zid, ca să-i înfricoşeze, să-i înspăimânte şi să poată captura astfel cetatea.

19 a nd they speak against the God of Jerusalem as against the gods of the peoples of the land -- work of the hands of man.

Ei au vorbit despre Dumnezeul Ierusalimului ca despre zeii popoarelor pământului, care sunt făcuţi de mâini omeneşti.

20 A nd Hezekiah the king prayeth, and Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, concerning this, and they cry to the heavens,

Dar regele Ezechia şi profetul Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, s-au rugat cu privire la aceasta şi au strigat către ceruri.

21 a nd Jehovah sendeth a messenger, and cutteth off every mighty one of valour -- both leader and head -- in the camp of the king of Asshur, and he turneth back with shame of face to his land, and entereth the house of his god, and those coming out of his bowels have caused him to fall there by the sword.

Domnul a trimis un înger care a spulberat orice războinic viteaz, orice conducător şi orice căpetenie din tabăra împăratului Asiriei. Acesta s-a întors ruşinat în ţara lui. Când a intrat în templul zeului său, unii dintre fiii săi l-au înjunghiat acolo cu sabia.

22 A nd Jehovah saveth Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Asshur, and from the hand of all, and He leadeth them round about;

Aşa a izbăvit Domnul pe Ezechia şi pe locuitorii Ierusalimului din mâna lui Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei, şi din mâna tuturor duşmanilor lor. El i-a protejat din toate părţile.

23 a nd many are bringing in an offering to Jehovah, to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, and he is lifted up before the eyes of all the nations after this.

Mulţi au venit la Ierusalim cu daruri pentru Domnul şi cu cadouri pentru Ezechia, regele lui Iuda, care, de atunci, a fost înălţat în ochii tuturor neamurilor. Succesul şi mândria lui Ezechia

24 I n those days hath Hezekiah been sick even unto death, and he prayeth unto Jehovah, and He speaketh to him, and a wonder hath appointed for him;

În acele zile Ezechia s-a îmbolnăvit şi era aproape de moarte. El s-a rugat Domnului Care i-a vorbit şi i-a dat un semn.

25 a nd Hezekiah hath not returned according to the deed unto him, for his heart hath been lofty, and there is wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem;

Însă Ezechia nu a răsplătit binefacerea primită, deoarece i s-a îngâmfat inima, astfel că mânia Domnului a fost peste el, peste Iuda şi peste Ierusalim.

26 a nd Hezekiah is humbled for the loftiness of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the wrath of Jehovah hath not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

Ezechia s-a smerit de îngâmfarea sa, împreună cu locuitorii Ierusalimului, astfel încât mânia Domnului nu a venit peste ei în vremea lui Ezechia.

27 A nd Hezekiah hath riches and honour very much, and treasures he hath made to himself of silver, and of gold, and of precious stone, and of spices, and of shields, and of all of desirable vessels,

Ezechia a avut foarte multă bogăţie şi glorie. El şi-a făcut vistierii pentru argint, pentru aur, pentru pietre preţioase, pentru mirodenii, pentru scuturi şi pentru tot felul de vase scumpe.

28 a nd storehouses for the increase of corn, and new wine, and oil, and stalls for all kinds of cattle, and herds for stalls;

A construit hambare pentru recolta de cereale, pentru must şi pentru ulei, precum şi grajduri pentru tot felul de vite şi staule pentru oi.

29 a nd cities he hath made for himself, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance, for God hath given to him very much substance.

El şi-a zidit cetăţi şi a avut numeroase turme şi cirezi, căci Dumnezeu i-a dat foarte multe avuţii.

30 A nd Hezekiah himself hath stopped the upper source of the waters of Gihon, and directeth them beneath to the west of the city of David, and Hezekiah prospereth in all his work;

Ezechia este cel care a astupat izvorul de sus al Ghihonului şi i-a îndreptat cursul în jos spre partea de apus a Cetăţii lui David. Ezechia a reuşit în tot ce a făcut.

31 a nd so with the ambassadors of the heads of Babylon, those sending unto him to inquire of the wonder that hath been in the land, God hath left him to try him, to know all in his heart,

Apoi, când trimişii conducătorilor din Babilon au venit la el ca să întrebe despre semnul care se făcuse în ţară, Dumnezeu l-a părăsit, ca să-l încerce şi să cunoască tot ce era în inima lui.

32 A nd the rest of the matters of Hezekiah, and his kind acts, lo, they are written in the vision of Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

Celelalte fapte ale lui Ezechia, precum şi dovezile sale de credincioşie sunt scrise în „Viziunea profetului Isaia“, fiul lui Amoţ, şi în „Cartea regilor lui Iuda şi ai lui Israel“.

33 A nd Hezekiah lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the uppermost of the graves of the sons of David, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have done honour to him at his death, and reign doth Manasseh his son in his stead.

Ezechia s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi şi a fost înmormântat în locul cel mai înalt al mormântului urmaşilor lui David. La moartea sa, toţi cei din Iuda şi locuitorii Ierusalimului i-au dat multă cinste. Şi în locul lui a domnit fiul său Manase.
