1 G o to and fro in streets of Jerusalem, And see, I pray you, and know, And seek in her broad places, if ye find a man, If there be one doing judgment, seeking stedfastness -- Then am I propitious to her.

„Cutreieraţi drumurile Ierusalimului, priviţi cu luare-aminte şi căutaţi în pieţe! Dacă veţi găsi un om care să înfăptuiască ce este drept şi să caute adevărul, voi ierta Ierusalimul.

2 A nd if they say, `Jehovah liveth,' Surely to a falsehood they swear.

Ei chiar şi atunci când jură: «Viu este Domnul!», fac jurăminte false.“

3 J ehovah, Thine eyes, are they not on stedfastness? Thou hast smitten them, and they have not grieved, Thou hast consumed them, They have refused to receive instruction, They made their faces harder than a rock, They have refused to turn back.

„ Doamne, nu caută ochii Tăi adevărul? Tu îi loveşti, dar ei nu simt durere. Tu îi zdrobeşti, dar ei refuză să se lase disciplinaţi. Îşi fac obrazul mai tare ca piatra şi refuză să se pocăiască.

4 A nd I -- I said, `Surely these poor, They have been foolish, For they have not known the way of Jehovah, The judgment of their God.

Îmi ziceam: «Aceştia sunt doar cei neînsemnaţi; ei se poartă nesăbuit, căci ei nu cunosc căile Domnului, poruncile Dumnezeului lor.

5 I get me to the great, and I speak with them, For they have known the way of Jehovah, The judgment of their God.' Surely they together have broken the yoke, They have drawn away the bands.

Aşa că voi merge la cei mari şi le voi vorbi. Cu siguranţă ei cunosc căile Domnului şi poruncile Dumnezeului lor.» Însă cu toţii au sfărâmat jugul şi au rupt legăturile.

6 T herefore smitten them hath a lion out of the forest, A wolf of the deserts doth spoil them, A leopard is watching over their cities, Every one who is going out of them is torn, For many have been their transgressions, Mighty have been their backslidings.

Din această cauză, un leu din pădure îi va ataca şi un lup din pustie îi va distruge. Leopardul îi va pândi în apropierea cetăţilor lor ca să-i sfâşie pe toţi cei ce vor ieşi din ele, căci fărădelegile lor sunt fără număr, iar răzvrătirile lor s-au înmulţit.“

7 F or this I am not propitious to thee, Thy sons have forsaken Me, And are satisfied by that which is not god, I satisfy them, and they commit adultery, And at the house of a harlot They gather themselves together.

„De ce să te iert? Fiii tăi M-au părăsit şi jură pe ceea ce nu este Dumnezeu. Le-am împlinit toate nevoile, dar ei încă mai comit adulter şi se îmbulzesc în casa prostituatei.

8 F ed horses -- they have been early risers, Each to the wife of his neighbour they neigh.

Sunt nişte armăsari bine hrăniţi şi aflaţi în călduri; fiecare nechează după soţia semenului său.

9 F or these do I not lay a charge? An affirmation of Jehovah, And on a nation such as this, Doth not My soul avenge itself?

Să nu-i pedepsesc Eu oare pentru aceasta? zice Domnul. Să nu mă răzbun Eu pe un asemenea neam?

10 G o ye up on her walls, and destroy, And a completion make not, Turn aside her branches, for they not Jehovah's,

Veniţi în viile ei şi distrugeţi-le, dar să nu le distrugeţi de tot! Tăiaţi-i mlădiţele, căci nu mai sunt ale Domnului!

11 F or dealt treacherously against Me have the house of Israel, And the house of Judah, an affirmation of Jehovah.

Casa lui Israel şi Casa lui Iuda Mi-au fost necredincioase, zice Domnul.

12 T hey have lied against Jehovah, And they say, ` not He, Nor come in against us doth evil, Yea, sword and famine we do not see.

S-au lepădat de Domnul şi au zis: «Nu se va întâmpla aşa! Nici un rău nu va veni asupra noastră; nu vom vedea nici sabia, nici foametea!

13 A nd the prophets become wind, And the word is not in them,' -- thus it is done by them.

Profeţii sunt vânt şi Cuvântul nu este în ei, aşa că ceea ce spun ei, să li se întâmple lor!»“

14 T herefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Hosts, Because of your speaking this word, Lo, I am making My words in thy mouth become fire, And this people wood, and it hath devoured them.

„De aceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul Oştirilor: «Pentru că poporul a spus aceste cuvinte, iată, voi face cuvintele Mele în gura ta un foc, iar poporul acesta – precum lemnele pe care le mistuie focul.»“

15 L o, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, an affirmation of Jehovah, A nation -- strong it, a nation -- from of old it, A nation -- thou knowest not its tongue, Nor understandest what it speaketh.

„Aduc împotriva voastră un popor de departe, casă a lui Israel, zice Domnul, un popor puternic, un popor străvechi, a cărui limbă nu o cunoaşteţi şi a cărui vorbire nu o înţelegeţi.

16 I ts quiver as an open sepulchre, All of them -- mighty ones.

Tolba lui este ca un mormânt deschis; toţi sunt nişte războinici viteji.

17 A nd it hath consumed thy harvest and thy bread, They consume thy sons, and thy daughters, It consumeth thy flock, and thy herd, It consumeth thy vine, and thy fig-tree, It maketh poor thy fenced cities, In which thou art trusting -- by the sword.

Ei îţi vor mânca secerişul şi pâinea, îţi vor mânca fiul şi fiica, îţi vor mânca turmele şi cirezile, îţi vor mânca viile şi smochinii şi-ţi vor distruge prin sabie cetăţile fortificate în care te încrezi.

18 A nd even in those days, an affirmation of Jehovah, I do not make you a completion.

Totuşi nici în zilele acelea nu vă voi distruge de tot, zice Domnul.

19 A nd it hath come to pass, when ye say, `For what hath Jehovah our God done to us all these?' That thou hast said unto them, `As ye have forsaken Me, And serve the gods of a foreigner in your land, So do ye serve strangers in a land not yours.

Dacă vor întreba atunci: «De ce ne-a făcut Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, toate acestea?», să le răspunzi astfel: «După cum M-aţi părăsit şi aţi slujit dumnezeilor străini în ţara voastră, tot aşa veţi sluji unor străini într-o ţară care nu este a voastră!»“

20 D eclare ye this in the house of Jacob, And sound ye it in Judah, saying,

„Spuneţi lucrul acesta Casei lui Iacov şi vestiţi-l în Iuda:

21 H ear ye, I pray you, this, O people, foolish and without heart, Eyes they have, and they see not, Ears they have, and they hear not.

«Ascultă lucrul acesta, popor nebun şi fără minte, care ai ochi, dar nu vezi, ai urechi, dar nu auzi:

22 M e do ye not fear, an affirmation of Jehovah? From My presence are ye not pained? Who hath made sand the border of the sea, A limit age-during, and it passeth not over it, They shake themselves, and they are not able, Yea, sounded have its billows, and they pass not over.

‘Nu vă e frică de Mine? zice Domnul. Nu tremuraţi înaintea Mea? Eu am pus nisipul ca hotar al mării, hotar veşnic pe care nu trebuie să-l treacă. Chiar dacă valurile ei se agită, ele nu pot răzbi şi chiar dacă urlă, ele nu-l pot trece.’»

23 A nd this people hath an apostate and rebellious heart, They have turned aside, and they go on.

Poporul acesta însă are o inimă încăpăţânată şi răzvrătită. Ei Mi-au întors spatele şi au plecat.

24 A nd they have not said in their heart, `Let us fear, we pray you, Jehovah our God, who is giving rain, The sprinkling and the gathered, in its season, The appointed weeks of harvest He keepeth for us.'

Nu-şi zic în sinea lor: «Să ne temem de Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, Care dă ploaie timpurie şi ploaie târzie la timpul potrivit şi ne asigură săptămânile rânduite pentru seceriş!»

25 Y our iniquities have turned these away, And your sins have kept the good from you.

Faptele voastre rele îndepărtează aceste rânduieli de la voi şi păcatele voastre vă ţin departe de aceste bunătăţi.

26 F or the wicked have been found among My people. It looketh about the covering of snares, They have set up a trap -- men they capture.

Căci în poporul Meu se află oameni nelegiuiţi. Ei pândesc ca păsărarul care întinde laţuri; întind curse şi prind oameni.

27 A s a cage full of fowls, So their houses are full of deceit, Therefore they have been great, and are rich.

Aşa cum este o colivie plină de păsări, tot aşa sunt şi casele lor pline de viclenie. De aceea au ajuns ei puternici şi s-au îmbogăţit,

28 T hey have been fat, they have shone, Yea, they have overpassed the acts of the evil, Judgment they have not judged, The judgment of the fatherless -- and they prosper, And the judgment of the needy they have not judged.

s-au îngrăşat şi lucesc de grăsime. Faptele lor rele nu au limită; ei nu pledează pentru cauza orfanului, ca s-o câştige, nici nu apără dreptul celor nevoiaşi.

29 F or these do not I inspect, an affirmation of Jehovah, On a nation such as this, Doth not My soul avenge itself?

Să nu pedepsesc Eu oare aceste lucruri? zice Domnul. Să nu mă răzbun Eu pe un asemenea neam?

30 A n astonishing and horrible thing hath been in the land.

Un lucru de necrezut şi dezgustător se întâmplă în ţară:

31 T he prophets have prophesied falsely, And the priests bear rule by their means, And My people have loved so, And what do they at its latter end?

profeţii profeţesc minciuni şi preoţii conduc prin puterea lor, iar celor din poporul Meu le plac aceste lucruri. Dar ce veţi face la sfârşit?“
