1 A nd Jehoshaphat his son reigneth in his stead, and he strengtheneth himself against Israel,

În locul lui Asa a domnit fiul său Iehoşafat. El s-a întărit împotriva lui Israel.

2 a nd putteth a force in all the fenced cities of Judah, and putteth garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.

A pus trupe în toate cetăţile fortificate ale lui Iuda şi a plasat garnizoane atât în Iuda, cât şi în cetăţile lui Efraim, care fuseseră cucerite de tatăl său, Asa.

3 A nd Jehovah is with Jehoshaphat, for he hath walked in the first ways of David his father, and hath not sought to Baalim,

Domnul a fost cu Iehoşafat, căci el a umblat în cele dintâi căi ale strămoşului său David şi nu a căutat pe baali,

4 f or to the God of his father he hath sought, and in His commands he hath walked, and not according to the work of Israel.

ci L-a căutat pe Dumnezeul strămoşului său şi a urmat poruncile Lui, fără să săvârşească faptele lui Israel.

5 A nd Jehovah doth establish the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah give a present to Jehoshaphat, and he hath riches and honour in abundance,

Domnul a întărit regatul sub conducerea lui. Toţi cei din Iuda îi aduceau daruri lui Iehoşafat şi el a avut parte de multă bogăţie şi slavă.

6 a nd his heart is high in the ways of Jehovah, and again he hath turned aside the high places and the shrines out of Judah.

Inima lui a fost plină de râvnă pentru căile Domnului, îndepărtând din Iuda chiar şi înălţimile şi aşerele.

7 A nd in the third year of his reign he hath sent for his heads, for Ben-Hail, and for Obadiah, and for Zechariah, and for Nethaneel, and for Michaiah, to teach in cities of Judah,

În al treilea an al domniei sale, Iehoşafat i-a trimis în cetăţile lui Iuda pe Ben-Hail, pe Obadia, pe Zaharia, pe Netanel şi pe Micaia, căpeteniile sale, ca să înveţe poporul.

8 a nd with them the Levites, Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijath, and Tob-Adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

Împreună cu ei erau următorii leviţi: Şemaia, Netania, Zebadia, Asael, Şemiramot, Ionatan, Adonia, Tobia şi Tob-Adonia, precum şi preoţii Elişama şi Iehoram.

9 A nd they teach in Judah, and with them the Book of the Law of Jehovah, and they go round about into all cities of Judah, and teach among the people.

Ei au învăţat pe cei din Iuda din Cartea Legii Domnului, pe care o aveau cu ei. Au străbătut toate cetăţile lui Iuda şi au învăţat poporul.

10 A nd here is a fear of Jehovah on all kingdoms of the lands that round about Judah, and they have not fought with Jehoshaphat;

Groaza Domnului a venit peste toate regatele ţărilor din jurul lui Iuda, astfel că ele nu s-au războit cu Iehoşafat.

11 a nd of the Philistines they are bringing in to Jehoshaphat a present, and tribute silver; also, the Arabians are bringing to him a flock, rams seven thousand an seven hundred, and he-goats seven thousand and seven hundred.

Nişte filisteni i-au adus lui Iehoşafat daruri şi un tribut în argint, iar nişte arabi i-au adus turme: şapte mii şapte sute de berbeci şi şapte mii şapte sute de ţapi.

12 A nd Jehoshaphat is going on and becoming very great, and he buildeth in Judah palaces and cities of store,

Iehoşafat a ajuns pe culmea cea mai înaltă a măririi. El a zidit în Iuda fortăreţe şi cetăţi pentru provizii.

13 a nd he hath much work in cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty of valour, in Jerusalem.

Avea multe proprietăţi în cetăţile lui Iuda. La Ierusalim avea ostaşi, luptători viteji.

14 A nd these their numbers, for the house of their fathers: Of Judah, heads of thousands, Adnah the head, and with him mighty ones of valour, three hundred chiefs.

Iată numărul lor, potrivit familiilor lor: din Iuda, căpetenii peste mii erau următorii: căpetenia Adna, însoţit de trei sute de mii de războinici viteji;

15 A nd at his hand Jehohanan the head, and with him two hundred and eighty chiefs.

alături de el era căpetenia Iohanan, însoţit de două sute optzeci de mii de oameni,

16 A nd at his hand Amasiah son of Zichri, who is willingly offering himself to Jehovah, and with him two hundred chiefs, mighty of valour.

şi Amasia, fiul lui Zicri, un voluntar în slujba Domnului, însoţit de două sute de mii de războinici viteji;

17 A nd of Benjamin: mighty of valour, Eliada, and with him, armed with bow and shield, two hundred chiefs.

din Beniamin erau următorii: Eliada, un războinic viteaz, însoţit de două sute de mii de oameni înarmaţi cu arcuri şi scuturi;

18 A nd at his hand Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty chiefs, armed ones of the host.

alături de el era Iehozabad, însoţit de o sută optzeci de mii de oameni înarmaţi pentru război.

19 T hese those serving the king, apart from those whom the king put in the cities of fortress, in all Judah.

Aceştia erau cei aflaţi în slujba regelui, în afară de cei puşi de rege în cetăţile fortificate de pe tot cuprinsul lui Iuda.
