1 A nd there standeth up an adversary against Israel, and persuadeth David to number Israel,

Satan s-a ridicat împotriva lui Israel şi l-a stârnit pe David ca să facă numărătoarea lui Israel.

2 A nd David saith unto Joab, and unto the heads of the people, `Go, number Israel from Beer-Sheba even unto Dan, and bring unto me, and I know their number.'

David le-a zis lui Ioab şi conducătorilor oştirii: – Mergeţi şi faceţi numărătoarea lui Israel, de la Beer-Şeba pâna la Dan, şi aduceţi-mi un răspuns, ca să ştiu la cât se ridică numărul lor.

3 A nd Joab saith, `Jehovah doth add to His people as they are a hundred times; are they not, my lord, O king, all of them to my lord for servants? why doth my lord seek this? why is he for a cause of guilt to Israel?'

Dar Ioab i-a zis: – Domnul să înmulţească poporul Său de o sută de ori mai mult! O, rege, stăpânul meu, oare nu suntem toţi slujitorii stăpânului meu? De ce stăpânul meu cere lucrul acesta? De ce să aduci vină asupra lui Israel?

4 A nd the word of the king severe against Joab, and Joab goeth out, and goeth up and down in all Israel, and cometh in to Jerusalem.

Însă porunca regelui dată lui Ioab a rămas de neclintit. Prin urmare, Ioab a plecat şi a călătorit prin tot Israelul. Apoi s-a întors la Ierusalim.

5 A nd Joab giveth the account of the numbering of the people unto David, and all Israel is a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand, each drawing sword, and Judah four hundred and seventy thousand, each drawing sword.

Ioab i-a dat lui David numărul bărbaţilor din popor: în tot Israelul erau un milion o sută de mii de bărbaţi în stare să meargă la război, iar în Iuda – patru sute şaptezeci de mii de bărbaţi în stare să meargă la război.

6 A nd Levi and Benjamin he hath not numbered in their midst, for the word of the king was abominable with Joab.

Leviţii şi beniamiţii nu au fost număraţi între aceştia, căci porunca regelui a fost dispreţuită de Ioab.

7 A nd it is evil in the eyes of God concerning this thing, and He smiteth Israel,

Porunca aceasta n-a plăcut lui Dumnezeu, astfel că El l-a lovit pe Israel.

8 a nd David saith unto God, `I have sinned exceedingly, in that I have done this thing; and now, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'

David I-a zis lui Dumnezeu: „Am săvârşit un mare păcat, făcând lucrul acesta. Însă acum iartă, Te rog, nelegiuirea robului Tău, căci am lucrat întru totul ca un nebun!“

9 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Gad, seer of David, saying:

Domnul i-a vorbit astfel lui Gad, văzătorul lui David:

10 ` Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, saying, Thus said Jehovah, Three -- I am stretching out unto thee; choose for thee one of these, and I do to thee.'

„Du-te şi spune-i lui David: «Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Trei nenorociri îţi pun înainte! Alege una dintre ele şi cu aceea te voi lovi!’»“

11 A nd Gad cometh in unto David, and saith to him, `Thus said Jehovah, Take for thee --

Gad a venit la David şi i-a zis: – Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Ce alegi?

12 e ither for three years -- famine, or three months to be consumed from the face of thine adversaries, even the sword of thine enemies to overtake, or three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and a messenger of Jehovah destroying in all the border of Israel; and now, see; what word do I return to Him who is sending me?'

Trei ani de foamete, trei luni în timpul cărora să fii spulberat dinaintea duşmanilor tăi şi atins de sabia duşmanilor tăi, sau trei zile în timpul cărora sabia Domnului şi molima să fie în ţară, iar îngerul Domnului să facă prăpăd prin tot teritoriul lui Israel?» Vezi acum ce trebuie să răspund Celui Ce m-a trimis!

13 A nd David saith unto Gad, `I am greatly distressed, let me fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for very many His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.'

– Sunt într-o mare strâmtorare, i-a răspuns David lui Gad. Mai bine să cad în mâna Domnului, căci mila Lui este nemărginită, decât să cad în mâinile oamenilor.

14 A nd Jehovah giveth a pestilence in Israel, and there fall of Israel seventy thousand men,

Domnul a trimis molima în Israel şi au murit şaptezeci de mii de oameni din Israel.

15 a nd God sendeth a messenger to Jerusalem to destroy it, and as he is destroying Jehovah hath seen, and is comforted concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who destroying, `Enough, now, cease thy hand.' And the messenger of Jehovah is standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,

Dumnezeu a trimis îngerul la Ierusalim ca să-l distrugă. Şi în timp ce îl distrugea, Domnul s-a uitat, I-a părut rău pentru acel dezastru şi i-a zis îngerului care distrugea: „Destul! Retrage-ţi mâna!“ Îngerul Domnului se afla lângă aria iebusitului Ornan.

16 a nd David lifteth up his eyes, and seeth the messenger of Jehovah standing between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem, and David falleth, and the elders, covered with sackcloth, on their faces.

David s-a uitat şi l-a văzut pe îngerul Domnului stând între pământ şi cer şi având în mână sabia scoasă, îndreptată împotriva Ierusalimului. Atunci David şi cei din sfatul bătrânilor, acoperiţi cu saci, au căzut cu faţa la pământ.

17 A nd David saith unto God, `Did not I -- I say to number the people? Yea, I it who have sinned, and done great evil: and these, the flock, what did they? O Jehovah, my God, let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father, and not on Thy people -- to be plagued.'

Şi David I-a zis lui Dumnezeu: „Oare n-am poruncit eu să fie numărat poporul? Eu sunt cel care a păcătuit şi a făcut rău! Dar oile acestea, ce au făcut oare? Te rog, Doamne, Dumnezeul meu, lasă mâna Ta să fie numai împotriva mea şi împotriva familiei mele, dar nu lăsa poporul Tău pradă urgiei!“

18 A nd the messenger of Jehovah spake unto Gad, saying for David, `Surely David doth go up to raise an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.'

Îngerul Domnului i-a zis lui Gad să-i ceară lui David să se ducă şi să ridice Domnului un altar pe aria iebusitului Ornan.

19 A nd David goeth up by the word of Gad, that he spake in the name of Jehovah.

David s-a dus şi a făcut după cuvântul pe care Gad l-a rostit în Numele Domnului.

20 A nd Ornan turneth back, and seeth the messenger, and his four sons with him, hiding themselves, and Ornan is threshing wheat.

În timp ce treiera grâul, Ornan s-a întors şi a văzut îngerul; cei patru fii ai lui, care erau cu el, s-au ascuns.

21 A nd David cometh in unto Ornan, and Ornan looketh attentively, and seeth David, and goeth out from the threshing-floor, and boweth himself to David -- face to the earth.

Când a ajuns David la Ornan, Ornan s-a uitat şi l-a văzut pe David; el a ieşit din arie şi s-a plecat cu faţa la pământ înaintea lui David.

22 A nd David saith unto Ornan, `Give to me the place of the threshing-floor, and I build in it an altar to Jehovah; for full silver give it to me, and the plague is restrained from the people.'

David i-a zis lui Ornan: – Dă-mi locul ariei ca să zidesc aici un altar Domnului – vinde-mi-l la adevărata lui valoare – ca astfel urgia care s-a abătut asupra poporului să înceteze.

23 A nd Ornan saith unto David, `Take to thee -- and my lord the king doth that which is good in his eyes: see, I have given the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for a present; the whole I have given.'

– Poţi să-l iei! i-a zis Ornan lui David. Stăpânul meu, regele, să facă ce vrea cu el! Iată, dau şi vitele pentru arderi de tot, iar uneltele de treierat vor ţine loc de lemne; de asemenea, grâul va fi pentru darul de mâncare. Dau tot!

24 A nd king David saith to Ornan, `Nay, for I surely buy for full silver; for I do not lift up that which is thine to Jehovah, so as to offer a burnt-offering without cost.'

Regele David i-a zis lui Ornan: – Nu aşa! Vreau să-l cumpăr la adevăratul lui preţ, căci nu voi aduce Domnului ce este al tău şi nu voi aduce o ardere de tot care să nu mă coste nimic!

25 A nd David giveth to Ornan for the place shekels of gold weight six hundred;

Astfel, David i-a plătit lui Ornan pentru acel loc şase sute de şecheli de aur.

26 a nd David buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and offereth burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and calleth unto Jehovah, and He answereth him with fire from the heavens on the altar of the burnt-offering.

David a zidit acolo un altar Domnului şi I-a adus arderi de tot şi jertfe de pace. L-a chemat pe Domnul şi El i-a răspuns cu foc din cer pe altarul arderii de tot.

27 A nd Jehovah saith to the messenger, and he turneth back his sword unto its sheath.

Apoi Domnul i-a vorbit îngerului şi acesta şi-a pus sabia în teacă.

28 A t that time when David seeth that Jehovah hath answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificeth there;

De atunci, de când David a văzut că Domnul i-a răspuns în aria iebusitului Ornan, a început să aducă jertfe acolo.

29 a nd the tabernacle of Jehovah that Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt-offering, at that time in a high place, in Gibeon;

Tabernaculul Domnului, pe care Moise îl făcuse în pustie, şi altarul arderilor de tot se aflau, în perioada aceea, pe înălţimea de la Ghivon.

30 a nd David is not able to go before it to seek God, for he hath been afraid because of the sword of the messenger of Jehovah.

David nu a mai putut să meargă acolo să-L caute pe Dumnezeu pentru că îl înspăimântase sabia îngerului trimis de Domnul.
