1 A nd there standeth up an adversary against Israel, and persuadeth David to number Israel,

Então Satanás se levantou contra Israel, e incitou Davi a numerar Israel.

2 A nd David saith unto Joab, and unto the heads of the people, `Go, number Israel from Beer-Sheba even unto Dan, and bring unto me, and I know their number.'

E disse Davi a Joabe e aos príncipes de povo: Ide, cantai a Israel desde Berseba até Dã; e trazei-me a conta, para que eu saiba o número deles.

3 A nd Joab saith, `Jehovah doth add to His people as they are a hundred times; are they not, my lord, O king, all of them to my lord for servants? why doth my lord seek this? why is he for a cause of guilt to Israel?'

Então disse Joabe: O Senhor acrescente ao seu povo cem vezes tanto como ele é! Porventura, é rei meu senhor, não são teus os servos de meu senhor? Por que requer isto e meu senhor. Por que traria ele culpa sobre Israel?

4 A nd the word of the king severe against Joab, and Joab goeth out, and goeth up and down in all Israel, and cometh in to Jerusalem.

Todavia a palavra de rei prevaleceu contra Joabe. Pelo que saiu Joabe, e passou por todo o Israel; depois voltou para Jerusulém.

5 A nd Joab giveth the account of the numbering of the people unto David, and all Israel is a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand, each drawing sword, and Judah four hundred and seventy thousand, each drawing sword.

E Joabe deu a Davi o resultado da numeração do povo. E era todo o Israel um milhão e cem mil homens que arrancavam da espada; e de Judá quatrocentos e setenta mil homens que arrancavam da espada.

6 A nd Levi and Benjamin he hath not numbered in their midst, for the word of the king was abominable with Joab.

Mas entre eles Joabe não contou os de Levi e Benjamim, porque a palavra do rei lhe foi abominável.

7 A nd it is evil in the eyes of God concerning this thing, and He smiteth Israel,

E este negócio desagradou a Deus, pelo que feriu Israel.

8 a nd David saith unto God, `I have sinned exceedingly, in that I have done this thing; and now, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'

Então disse Davi a Deus: Gravemente pequei em fazer tal coisa; agora porém, peço-te, tira a iniqüidade de teu servo, porque procedi mui loucamente.

9 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Gad, seer of David, saying:

Falou o Senhor a Gade, o vidente de Davi, dizendo:

10 ` Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, saying, Thus said Jehovah, Three -- I am stretching out unto thee; choose for thee one of these, and I do to thee.'

Vai, e dize a Davi: Assim diz o Senhor: Três coisas te proponho; escolhe uma delas, para que eu ta faça.

11 A nd Gad cometh in unto David, and saith to him, `Thus said Jehovah, Take for thee --

E Gade veio a Davi, e lhe disse: Assim diz o Senhor: Escolhe o que quiseres:

12 e ither for three years -- famine, or three months to be consumed from the face of thine adversaries, even the sword of thine enemies to overtake, or three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and a messenger of Jehovah destroying in all the border of Israel; and now, see; what word do I return to Him who is sending me?'

ou três anos de fome; ou seres por três meses consumido diante de teus adversários, enquanto a espada de teus inimigos te alcance; ou que por três dias a espada do Senhor, isto é, a peste na terra, e o anjo do Senhor façam destruição por todos os termos de Israel. Vê, pois, agora que resposta hei de levar a quem me enviou.

13 A nd David saith unto Gad, `I am greatly distressed, let me fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for very many His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.'

Então disse Davi a Gade: Estou em grande angústia; caia eu, pois, nas mãos do Senhor, porque mui grandes são as suas misericórdias; mas que eu não caia nas mãos dos homens.

14 A nd Jehovah giveth a pestilence in Israel, and there fall of Israel seventy thousand men,

Mandou, pois, o Senhor a peste a Israel; e caíram de Israel setenta mil homens.

15 a nd God sendeth a messenger to Jerusalem to destroy it, and as he is destroying Jehovah hath seen, and is comforted concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who destroying, `Enough, now, cease thy hand.' And the messenger of Jehovah is standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,

E Deus mandou um anjo a Jerusalém para a destruir; e, estando ele prestes a destrui-la, o Senhor olhou e se arrependeu daquele mal, e disse ao anjo destruidor: Basta; agora retira a tua mão. E o anjo do Senhor estava junto ã eira de Ornã, o jebuseu.

16 a nd David lifteth up his eyes, and seeth the messenger of Jehovah standing between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem, and David falleth, and the elders, covered with sackcloth, on their faces.

E Davi, levantando os olhos, viu o anjo do Senhor, que estava entre a terra e o céu, tendo na mão uma espada desembainhada estendida sobre Jerusalém. Então Davi e os anciãos, cobertos de sacos, se prostraram sobre os seus rostos.

17 A nd David saith unto God, `Did not I -- I say to number the people? Yea, I it who have sinned, and done great evil: and these, the flock, what did they? O Jehovah, my God, let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father, and not on Thy people -- to be plagued.'

E dissemorreram Saul e seus três filhos; morreu toda a sua o povo? E eu mesmo sou o que pequei, e procedi muito mal; mas estas ovelhas, que fizeram? Seja tua mão, Senhor Deus meu, contra mim e contra a casa de meu pai, porem não contra o teu povo para castigá-lo com peste.

18 A nd the messenger of Jehovah spake unto Gad, saying for David, `Surely David doth go up to raise an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.'

Então o anjo do Senhor ordenou a Gade que dissesse a Davi para subir e levantar um altar ao Senhor na eira de Ornã, o jebuseu.

19 A nd David goeth up by the word of Gad, that he spake in the name of Jehovah.

Subiu, pois, Davi, conforme a palavra que Gade falara em nome do Senhor.

20 A nd Ornan turneth back, and seeth the messenger, and his four sons with him, hiding themselves, and Ornan is threshing wheat.

E, virando-se Ornã, viu o anjo; e seus quatro filhos, que estavam com ele, se esconderam. Ora, Ornã estava debulhando trigo.

21 A nd David cometh in unto Ornan, and Ornan looketh attentively, and seeth David, and goeth out from the threshing-floor, and boweth himself to David -- face to the earth.

Quando Davi se vinha chegando a Ornã, este olhou e o viu e, saindo da terra, prostrou-se diante dele com o rosto em terra.

22 A nd David saith unto Ornan, `Give to me the place of the threshing-floor, and I build in it an altar to Jehovah; for full silver give it to me, and the plague is restrained from the people.'

Então disse Davi a Ornã: Dá-me o lugar da eira pelo seu valor, para eu edificar nele um altar ao Senhor, para que cesse esta praga de sobre o povo.

23 A nd Ornan saith unto David, `Take to thee -- and my lord the king doth that which is good in his eyes: see, I have given the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for a present; the whole I have given.'

Respondeu Ornã a Davi: Toma-o para ti, e faça o rei meu senhor o que lhe parecer bem. Eis que dou os bois para holocaustos, os trilhos para lenha, e o trigo para oferta de cereais; tudo dou.

24 A nd king David saith to Ornan, `Nay, for I surely buy for full silver; for I do not lift up that which is thine to Jehovah, so as to offer a burnt-offering without cost.'

Mas o rei Davi disse a Ornã: Não, antes quero comprá-lo pelo seu valor; pois não tomarei para o Senhor o que é teu, nem oferecerei holocausto que não me custe nada.

25 A nd David giveth to Ornan for the place shekels of gold weight six hundred;

E Davi deu a Ornã por aquele lugar o peso de seiscentos siclos de ouro.

26 a nd David buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and offereth burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and calleth unto Jehovah, and He answereth him with fire from the heavens on the altar of the burnt-offering.

Então Davi edificou ali um altar ao Senhor, e ofereceu holocaustos e ofertas pacíficas; e invocou o Senhor, o qual lhe respondeu do céu, com fogo sobre o altar de holocausto.

27 A nd Jehovah saith to the messenger, and he turneth back his sword unto its sheath.

E o Senhor deu ordem ao anjo, que tomou a meter a sua espada na bainha.

28 A t that time when David seeth that Jehovah hath answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificeth there;

Nesse mesmo tempo, vendo Davi que o Senhor lhe respondera na eira de Ornã, o jebuseu, ofereceu ali os seus sacrifícios.

29 a nd the tabernacle of Jehovah that Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt-offering, at that time in a high place, in Gibeon;

Pois o tabernáculo do Senhor que Moisés fizera no deserto, e o altar do holocausto, estavam naquele tempo no alto de Gibeão;

30 a nd David is not able to go before it to seek God, for he hath been afraid because of the sword of the messenger of Jehovah.

mas Davi não podia ir perante ele para consultar a Deus, porque estava atemorizado por causa da espada do anjo do Senhor.
