1 A nd there is a famine in the land, besides the first famine which was in the days of Abraham, and Isaac goeth unto Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

Sobreveio ã terra uma fome, além da primeira, que ocorreu nos dias de Abraão. Por isso foi Isaque a Abimeleque, rei dos filisteus, em Gerar.

2 A nd Jehovah appeareth unto him, and saith, `Go not down towards Egypt, tabernacle in the land concerning which I speak unto thee,

E apareceu-lhe o Senhor e disse: Não desças ao Egito; habita na terra que eu te disser;

3 s ojourn in this land, and I am with thee, and bless thee, for to thee and to thy seed I give all these lands, and I have established the oath which I have sworn to Abraham thy father;

peregrina nesta terra, e serei contigo e te abençoarei; porque a ti, e aos que descenderem de ti, darei todas estas terras, e confirmarei o juramento que fiz a Abraão teu pai;

4 a nd I have multiplied thy seed as stars of the heavens, and I have given to thy seed all these lands; and blessed themselves in thy seed have all nations of the earth;

e multiplicarei a tua descendência como as estrelas do céu, e lhe darei todas estas terras; e por meio dela serão benditas todas as naçoes da terra;

5 b ecause that Abraham hath hearkened to My voice, and keepeth My charge, My commands, My statutes, and My laws.'

porquanto Abraão obedeceu ã minha voz, e guardou o meu mandado, os meus preceitos, os meus estatutos e as minhas leis.

6 A nd Isaac dwelleth in Gerar;

Assim habitou Isaque em Gerar.

7 a nd men of the place ask him of his wife, and he saith, `She my sister:' for he hath been afraid to say, `My wife -- lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, for she of good appearance.'

Então os homens do lugar perguntaram-lhe acerca de sua mulher, e ele respondeu: É minha irmã; porque temia dizer: É minha mulher; para que porventura, dizia ele, não me matassem os homens daquele lugar por amor de Rebeca; porque era ela formosa ã vista.

8 A nd it cometh to pass, when the days have been prolonged to him there, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looketh through the window, and seeth, and lo, Isaac is playing with Rebekah his wife.

Ora, depois que ele se demorara ali muito tempo, Abimeleque, rei dos filisteus, olhou por uma janela, e viu, e eis que Isaque estava brincando com Rebeca, sua mulher.

9 A nd Abimelech calleth for Isaac, and saith, `Lo, she surely thy wife; and how hast thou said, She my sister?' and Isaac saith unto him, `Because I said, Lest I die for her.'

Então chamou Abimeleque a Isaque, e disse: Eis que na verdade é tua mulher; como pois disseste: E minha irmã? Respondeu-lhe Isaque: Porque eu dizia: Para que eu porventura não morra por sua causa.

10 A nd Abimelech saith, `What this thou hast done to us? as a little thing one of the people had lain with thy wife, and thou hadst brought upon us guilt;'

Replicou Abimeleque: Que é isso que nos fizeste? Facilmente se teria deitado alguém deste povo com tua mulher, e tu terias trazido culpa sobre nós.

11 a nd Abimelech commandeth all the people, saying, `He who cometh against this man or against his wife, dying doth die.'

E Abimeleque ordenou a todo o povo, dizendo: Qualquer que tocar neste homem ou em sua mulher, certamente morrerá.

12 A nd Isaac soweth in that land, and findeth in that year a hundredfold, and Jehovah blesseth him;

Isaque semeou naquela terra, e no mesmo ano colheu o cêntuplo; e o Senhor o abençoou.

13 a nd the man is great, and goeth on, going on and becoming great, till that he hath been very great,

E engrandeceu-se o homem; e foi-se enriquecendo até que se tornou mui poderoso;

14 a nd he hath possession of a flock, and possession of a herd, and an abundant service; and the Philistines envy him,

e tinha possessões de rebanhos e de gado, e muita gente de serviço; de modo que os filisteus o invejavam.

15 a nd all the wells which his father's servants digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines have stopped them, and fill them with dust.

Ora, todos os poços, que os servos de seu pai tinham cavado nos dias de seu pai Abraão, os filisteus entulharam e encheram de terra.

16 A nd Abimelech saith unto Isaac, `Go from us; for thou hast become much mightier than we;'

E Abimeleque disse a Isaque: Aparta-te de nós; porque muito mais poderoso te tens feito do que nós.

17 a nd Isaac goeth from thence, and encampeth in the valley of Gerar, and dwelleth there;

Então Isaque partiu dali e, acampando no vale de Gerar, lá habitou.

18 a nd Isaac turneth back, and diggeth the wells of water which they digged in the days of Abraham his father, which the Philistines do stop after the death of Abraham, and he calleth to them names according to the names which his father called them.

E Isaque tornou a cavar os poços que se haviam cavado nos dias de Abraão seu pai, pois os filisteus os haviam entulhado depois da morte de Abraão; e deu-lhes os nomes que seu pai lhes dera.

19 A nd Isaac's servants dig in the valley, and find there a well of living water,

Cavaram, pois, os servos de Isaque naquele vale, e acharam ali um poço de águas vivas.

20 a nd shepherds of Gerar strive with shepherds of Isaac, saying, `The water ours;' and he calleth the name of the well `Strife,' because they have striven habitually with him;

E os pastores de Gerar contenderam com os pastores de Isaque, dizendo: Esta água é nossa. E ele chamou ao poço Eseque, porque contenderam com ele.

21 a nd they dig another well, and they strive also for it, and he calleth its name `Hatred.'

Então cavaram outro poço, pelo qual também contenderam; por isso chamou-lhe Sitna.

22 A nd he removeth from thence, and diggeth another well, and they have not striven for it, and he calleth its name Enlargements, and saith, `For -- now hath Jehovah given enlargement to us, and we have been fruitful in the land.'

E partiu dali, e cavou ainda outro poço; por este não contenderam; pelo que chamou-lhe Reobote, dizendo: Pois agora o Senhor nos deu largueza, e havemos de crescer na terra.

23 A nd he goeth up from thence Beer-Sheba,

Depois subiu dali a Beer-Seba.

24 a nd Jehovah appeareth unto him during that night, and saith, `I the God of Abraham thy father, fear not, for I with thee, and have blessed thee, and have multiplied thy seed, because of Abraham My servant;'

E apareceu-lhe o Senhor na mesma noite e disse: Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, teu pai; não temas, porque eu sou contigo, e te abençoarei e multiplicarei a tua descendência por amor do meu servo Abraão.

25 a nd he buildeth there an altar, and preacheth in the name of Jehovah, and stretcheth out there his tent, and there Isaac's servants dig a well.

Isaque, pois, edificou ali um altar e invocou o nome do Senhor; então armou ali a sua tenda, e os seus servos cavaram um poço.

26 A nd Abimelech hath gone unto him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phichol head of his host;

Então Abimeleque veio a ele de Gerar, com Aüzate, seu amigo, e Ficol, o chefe do seu exército.

27 a nd Isaac saith unto them, `Wherefore have ye come unto me, and ye have hated me, and ye send me away from you?'

E perguntou-lhes Isaque: Por que viestes ter comigo, visto que me odiais, e me repelistes de vós?

28 A nd they say, `We have certainly seen that Jehovah hath been with thee, and we say, `Let there be, we pray thee, an oath between us, between us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;

Responderam eles: Temos visto claramente que o Senhor é contigo, pelo que dissemos: Haja agora juramento entre nós, entre nós e ti; e façamos um pacto contigo,

29 d o not evil with us, as we have not touched thee, and as we have only done good with thee, and send thee away in peace; thou now blessed of Jehovah.'

que não nos farás mal, assim como nós não te havemos tocado, e te fizemos somente o bem, e te deixamos ir em paz. Agora tu és o bendito do Senhor.

30 A nd he maketh for them a banquet, and they eat and drink,

Então Isaque lhes deu um banquete, e comeram e beberam.

31 a nd rise early in the morning, and swear one to another, and Isaac sendeth them away, and they go from him in peace.

E levantaram-se de manhã cedo e juraram de parte a parte; depois Isaque os despediu, e eles se despediram dele em paz.

32 A nd it cometh to pass during that day that Isaac's servants come and declare to him concerning the circumstances of the well which they have digged, and say to him, `We have found water;'

Nesse mesmo dia vieram os servos de Isaque e deram-lhe notícias acerca do poço que haviam cavado, dizendo-lhe: Temos achado água.

33 a nd he calleth it Shebah, therefore the name of the city Beer-Sheba, unto this day.

E ele chamou o poço Seba; por isso é o nome da cidade Beer-Seba até o dia de hoje.

34 A nd Esau is a son of forty years, and he taketh a wife, Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite,

Ora, quando Esaú tinha quarenta anos, tomou por mulher a Judite, filha de Beeri, o heteu e a Basemate, filha de Elom, o heteu.

35 a nd they are a bitterness of spirit to Isaac and to Rebekah.

E estas foram para Isaque e Rebeca uma amargura de espírito.
