1 I the man hath seen affliction By the rod of His wrath.

Eu sou o homem que viu a aflição causada pela vara do seu furor.

2 M e He hath led, and causeth to go darkness, and without light.

Ele me guiou e me fez andar em trevas e não na luz.

3 S urely against me He turneth back, He turneth His hand all the day.

Deveras fez virar e revirar a sua mão contra mim o dia todo.

4 H e hath worn out my flesh and my skin. He hath broken my bones.

Fez envelhecer a minha carne e a minha pele; quebrou-me os ossos.

5 H e hath built up against me, And setteth round poverty and weariness.

Levantou trincheiras contra mim, e me cercou de fel e trabalho.

6 I n dark places He hath caused me to dwell, As the dead of old.

Fez-me habitar em lugares tenebrosos, como os que estavam mortos há muito.

7 H e hath hedged me about, and I go not out, He hath made heavy my fetter.

Cercou-me de uma sebe de modo que não posso sair; agravou os meus grilhões.

8 A lso when I call and cry out, He hath shut out my prayer.

Ainda quando grito e clamo por socorro, ele exclui a minha oração.

9 H e hath hedged my ways with hewn work, My paths He hath made crooked.

Fechou os meus caminhos com pedras lavradas, fez tortuosas as minhas veredas.

10 A bear lying in wait He to me, A lion in secret hiding-places.

Fez-se-me como urso de emboscada, um leão em esconderijos.

11 M y ways He is turning aside, and He pulleth me in pieces, He hath made me a desolation.

Desviou os meus caminhos, e fez-me em pedaços; deixou-me desolado.

12 H e hath trodden His bow, And setteth me up as a mark for an arrow.

Armou o seu arco, e me pôs como alvo ã flecha.

13 H e hath caused to enter into my reins The sons of His quiver.

Fez entrar nos meus rins as flechas da sua aljava.

14 I have been a derision to all my people, Their song all the day.

Fui feito um objeto de escárnio para todo o meu povo, e a sua canção o dia todo.

15 H e hath filled me with bitter things, He hath filled me wormwood.

Encheu-me de amarguras, fartou-me de absinto.

16 A nd He breaketh with gravel my teeth, He hath covered me with ashes.

Quebrou com pedrinhas de areia os meus dentes, cobriu-me de cinza.

17 A nd Thou castest off from peace my soul, I have forgotten prosperity.

Alongaste da paz a minha alma; esqueci-me do que seja a felicidade.

18 A nd I say, Perished hath my strength and my hope from Jehovah.

Digo, pois: Já pereceu a minha força, como também a minha esperança no Senhor.

19 R emember my affliction and my mourning, Wormwood and gall!

Lembra-te da minha aflição e amargura, do absinto e do fel.

20 R emember well, and bow down doth my soul in me.

Minha alma ainda os conserva na memória, e se abate dentro de mim.

21 T his I turn to my heart -- therefore I hope.

Torno a trazer isso ã mente, portanto tenho esperança.

22 T he kindnesses of Jehovah! For we have not been consumed, For not ended have His mercies.

A benignidade do Senhor jamais acaba, as suas misericórdias não têm fim;

23 N ew every morning, abundant thy faithfulness.

renovam-se cada manhã. Grande é a tua fidelidade.

24 M y portion Jehovah, hath my soul said, Therefore I hope for Him.

A minha porção é o Senhor, diz a minha alma; portanto esperarei nele.

25 G ood Jehovah to those waiting for Him, To the soul seeketh Him.

Bom é o Senhor para os que esperam por ele, para a alma que o busca.

26 G ood! when one doth stay and stand still For the salvation of Jehovah.

Bom é ter esperança, e aguardar em silêncio a salvação do Senhor.

27 G ood for a man that he beareth a yoke in his youth.

Bom é para o homem suportar o jugo na sua mocidade.

28 H e sitteth alone, and is silent, For He hath laid upon him.

Que se assente ele, sozinho, e fique calado, porquanto Deus o pôs sobre ele.

29 H e putteth in the dust his mouth, if so be there is hope.

Ponha a sua boca no pó; talvez ainda haja esperança.

30 H e giveth to his smiter the cheek, He is filled with reproach.

Dê a sua face ao que o fere; farte-se de afronta.

31 F or the Lord doth not cast off to the age.

Pois o Senhor não rejeitará para sempre.

32 F or though He afflicted, yet He hath pitied, According to the abundance of His kindness.

Embora entristeça a alguém, contudo terá compaixão segundo a grandeza da sua misericordia.

33 F or He hath not afflicted with His heart, Nor doth He grieve the sons of men.

Porque não aflige nem entristece de bom grado os filhos dos homens.

34 T o bruise under one's feet any bound ones of earth,

Pisar debaixo dos pés a todos os presos da terra,

35 T o turn aside the judgment of a man, Over-against the face of the Most High,

perverter o direito do homem perante a face do Altíssimo,

36 T o subvert a man in his cause, the Lord hath not approved.

subverter o homem no seu pleito, não são do agrado do senhor.

37 W ho this -- he hath said, and it is, the Lord hath not commanded ?

Quem é aquele que manda, e assim acontece, sem que o Senhor o tenha ordenado?

38 F rom the mouth of the Most High Go not forth the evils and the good.

Não sai da boca do Altíssimo tanto o mal como o bem?

39 W hat -- sigh habitually doth a living man, A man for his sin?

Por que se queixaria o homem vivente, o varão por causa do castigo dos seus pecados?

40 W e search our ways, and investigate, And turn back unto Jehovah.

Esquadrinhemos os nossos caminhos, provemo-los, e voltemos para o Senhor.

41 W e lift up our heart on the hands unto God in the heavens.

Levantemos os nossos corações com as mãos para Deus no céu dizendo;

42 W e -- we have transgressed and rebelled, Thou -- Thou hast not forgiven.

Nós transgredimos, e fomos rebeldes, e não perdoaste,

43 T hou hast covered Thyself with anger, And dost pursue us; Thou hast slain -- Thou hast not pitied.

Cobriste-te de ira, e nos perseguiste; mataste, não te apiedaste.

44 T hou hast covered Thyself with a cloud, So that prayer doth not pass through.

Cobriste-te de nuvens, para que não passe a nossa oração.

45 O ffscouring and refuse Thou dost make us In the midst of the peoples.

Como escória e refugo nos puseste no meio dos povos.

46 O pened against us their mouth have all our enemies.

Todos os nossos inimigos abriram contra nós a sua boca.

47 F ear and a snare hath been for us, Desolation and destruction.

Temor e cova vieram sobre nós, assolação e destruição.

48 R ivulets of water go down my eye, For the destruction of the daughter of my people.

Torrentes de águas correm dos meus olhos, por causa da destruição da filha do meu povo.

49 M ine eye is poured out, And doth not cease without intermission,

Os meus olhos derramam lágrimas, e não cessam, sem haver intermissão,

50 T ill Jehovah looketh and seeth from the heavens,

até que o Senhor atente e veja desde o céu.

51 M y eye affecteth my soul, Because of all the daughters of my city.

Os meus olhos me afligem, por causa de todas as filhas da minha cidade.

52 H unted me sore as a bird have my enemies without cause.

Como ave me caçaram os que, sem causa, são meus inimigos.

53 T hey have cut off in a pit my life, And they cast a stone against me.

Atiraram-me vivo na masmorra, e lançaram pedras sobre mim.

54 F lowed have waters over my head, I have said, I have been cut off.

Águas correram sobre a minha cabeça; eu disse: Estou cortado.

55 I called Thy name, O Jehovah, from the lower pit.

Invoquei o teu nome, Senhor, desde a profundeza da masmorra.

56 M y voice Thou hast heard, Hide not Thine ear at my breathing -- at my cry.

Ouviste a minha voz; não escondas o teu ouvido ao meu suspiro, ao meu clamor.

57 T hou hast drawn near in the day I call Thee, Thou hast said, Fear not.

Tu te aproximaste no dia em que te invoquei; disseste: Não temas.

58 T hou hast pleaded, O Lord, the pleadings of my soul, Thou hast redeemed my life.

Pleiteaste, Senhor, a minha causa; remiste a minha vida.

59 T hou hast seen, O Jehovah, my overthrow, Judge Thou my cause.

Viste, Senhor, a injustiça que sofri; julga tu a minha causa.

60 T hou hast seen all their vengeance, All their thoughts of me.

Viste toda a sua vingança, todos os seus desígnios contra mim.

61 T hou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, All their thoughts against me,

Ouviste as suas afrontas, Senhor, todos os seus desígnios contra mim,

62 T he lips of my withstanders, Even their meditation against me all the day.

os lábios e os pensamentos dos que se levantam contra mim o dia todo.

63 T heir sitting down, and their rising up, Behold attentively, I their song.

Observa-os ao assentarem-se e ao levantarem-se; eu sou a sua canção.

64 T hou returnest to them the deed, O Jehovah, According to the work of their hands.

Tu lhes darás a recompensa, Senhor, conforme a obra das suas mãos.

65 T hou givest to them a covered heart, Thy curse to them.

Tu lhes darás dureza de coração, maldição tua sobre eles.

66 T hou pursuest in anger, and destroyest them, From under the heavens of Jehovah!

Na tua ira os perseguirás, e os destruirás de debaixo dos teus céus, ó Senhor.
