1 A nd sons of the prophet say unto Elisha, `Lo, we pray thee, the place where we are dwelling before thee is too strait for us;

Os filhos dos profetas disseram a Eliseu: Eis que o lugar em que habitamos diante da tua face é estreito demais para nós.

2 l et us go, we pray thee, unto the Jordan, and we take thence each one beam, and we make for ourselves there a place to dwell there;' and he saith, `Go.'

Vamos, pois até o Jordão, tomemos de lá cada um de nós, uma viga, e ali edifiquemos para nós um lugar em que habitemos. Respondeu ele: Ide.

3 A nd the one saith, `Be pleased, I pray thee, and go with thy servants;' and he saith, `I -- I go.'

Disse-lhe um deles: Digna-te de ir com os teus servos. E ele respondeu: Eu irei.

4 A nd he goeth with them, and they come in to the Jordan, and cut down the trees,

Assim foi com eles; e, chegando eles ao Jordão, cortavam madeira.

5 a nd it cometh to pass, the one is felling the beam, and the iron hath fallen into the water, and he crieth and saith, `Alas! my lord, and it asked!'

Mas sucedeu que, ao derrubar um deles uma viga, o ferro do machado caiu na água; e ele clamou, dizendo: Ai, meu senhor! ele era emprestado.

6 A nd the man of God saith, `Whither hath it fallen?' and he sheweth him the place, and he cutteth a stick, and casteth thither, and causeth the iron to swim,

Perguntou o homem de Deus: Onde caiu? E ele lhe mostrou o lugar. Então Eliseu cortou um pau, e o lançou ali, e fez flutuar o ferro.

7 a nd saith, `Raise to thee;' and he putteth forth his hand and taketh it.

E disse: Tira-o. E ele estendeu a mão e o tomou.

8 A nd the king of Aram hath been fighting against Israel, and taketh counsel with his servants, saying, `At such and such a place my encamping.'

Ora, o rei da Síria fazia guerra a Israel; e teve conselho com os seus servos, dizendo: Em tal e tal lugar estará o meu acampamento.

9 A nd the man of God sendeth unto the king of Israel, saying, `Take heed of passing by this place, for thither are the Aramaeans coming down;

E o homem de Deus mandou dizer ao rei de Israel: Guarda-te de passares por tal lugar porque os sírios estão descendo ali.

10 a nd the king of Israel sendeth unto the place of which the man of God spake to him, and warned him, and he is preserved there not once nor twice.

Pelo que o rei de Israel enviou

11 A nd the heart of the king of Aram is tossed about concerning this thing, and he calleth unto his servants, and saith unto them, `Do ye not declare to me who of us for the king of Israel?'

Turbou-se por causa disto o coração do rei da Síria que chamou os seus servos, e lhes disse: Não me fareis saber quem dos nossos é pelo rei de Israel?

12 A nd one of his servants saith, `Nay, my lord, O king, for Elisha the prophet, who in Israel, declareth to the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in the inner part of thy bed-chamber.'

Respondeu um dos seus servos: Não é assim, ó rei meu senhor, mas o profeta Eliseu que está em Israel, faz saber ao rei de Israel as palavras que falas na tua câmara de dormir.

13 A nd he saith, `Go ye and see where he, and I send and take him;' and it is declared to him, saying, `Lo -- in Dothan.'

E ele disse: Ide e vede onde ele está, para que eu envie e mande trazê-lo. E foi-lhe dito; Eis que está em Dotã.

14 A nd he sendeth thither horses and chariot, and a heavy force, and they come in by night, and go round against the city.

Então enviou para lá cavalos, e carros, e um grande exército, os quais vieram de noite e cercaram a cidade.

15 A nd the servant of the man of God riseth early, and goeth out, and lo, a force is surrounding the city, and horse and chariot, and his young man saith unto him, `Alas! my lord, how do we do?'

Tendo o moço do homem de Deus se levantado muito cedo, saiu, e eis que um exército tinha cercado a cidade com cavalos e carros. Então o moço disse ao homem de Deus: Ai, meu senhor! que faremos?

16 A nd he saith, `Fear not, for more they who with us than they who with them.'

Respondeu ele: Não temas; porque os que estão conosco são mais do que os que estão com eles.

17 A nd Elisha prayeth, and saith, `Jehovah, open, I pray Thee, his eyes, and he doth see;' and Jehovah openeth the eyes of the young man, and he seeth, and lo, the hill is full of horses and chariots of fire, round about Elisha.

E Eliseu orou, e disse: ç senhor, peço-te que lhe abras os olhos, para que veja. E o Senhor abriu os olhos do moço, e ele viu; e eis que o monte estava cheio de cavalos e carros de fogo em redor de Eliseu.

18 A nd they come down unto it, and Elisha prayeth unto Jehovah, and saith, `Smite, I pray Thee, this nation with blindness;' and He smiteth them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha.

Quando os sírios desceram a ele, Eliseu orou ao Senhor, e disse: Fere de cegueira esta gente, peço-te. E o Senhor os feriu de cegueira, conforme o pedido de Eliseu.

19 A nd Elisha saith unto them, `This not the way, nor this the city; come after me, and I lead you unto the man whom ye seek;' and he leadeth them to Samaria.

Então Eliseu lhes disse: Não é este o caminho, nem é esta a cidade; segui-me, e guiar-vos-ei ao homem que buscais. E os guiou a Samária.

20 A nd it cometh to pass, at their coming in to Samaria, that Elisha saith, `Jehovah, open the eyes of these, and they see;' and Jehovah openeth their eyes, and they see, and lo, in the midst of Samaria!

E sucedeu que, chegando eles a Samária, disse Eliseu: Ó Senhor, abre a estes os olhos para que vejam. O Senhor lhes abriu os olhos, e viram; e eis que estavam no meio de Samária.

21 A nd the king of Israel saith unto Elisha, at his seeing them, `Do I smite -- do I smite -- my father?'

Quando o rei de Israel os viu, disse a Eliseu: Feri-los-ei, feri-los-ei, meu pai?

22 A nd he saith, `Thou dost not smite; those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow art thou smiting? set bread and water before them, and they eat, and drink, and go unto their lord.'

Respondeu ele: Não os ferirás; feririas tu os que tomasses prisioneiros com a tua espada e com o teu arco? Põe-lhes diante pão e água, para que comam e bebam, e se vão para seu senhor.

23 A nd he prepareth for them great provision, and they eat and drink, and he sendeth them away, and they go unto their lord: and troops of Aram have not added any more to come in to the land of Israel.

Preparou-lhes, pois, um grande banquete; e eles comeram e beberam; então ele os despediu, e foram para seu senhor. E as tropas dos sírios desistiram de invadir a terra de Israel.

24 A nd it cometh to pass afterwards, that Ben-Hadad king of Aram gathereth all his camp, and goeth up, and layeth siege to Samaria,

Sucedeu, depois disto, que Bene-Hadade, rei da Síria, ajuntando todo o seu exército, subiu e cercou Samária.

25 a nd there is a great famine in Samaria, and lo, they are laying siege to it, till the head of an ass is at eighty silverlings, and a forth of the cab of dovesdung at five silverlings.

E houve grande fome em Samária, porque mantiveram o cerco até que se vendeu uma cabeça de jumento por oitenta siclos de prata, e a quarta parte dum cabo de esterco de pombas por cinco siclos de prata.

26 A nd it cometh to pass, the king of Israel is passing by on the wall, and a woman hath cried unto him, saying, `Save, my lord, O king.'

E sucedeu que, passando o rei de Israel pelo muro, uma mulher lhe gritou, dizendo: Acode-me, ó rei meu Senhor.

27 A nd he saith, `Jehovah doth not save thee -- whence do I save thee? out of the threshing-floor, or out of the wine-vat?'

Mas ele lhe disse: Se o Senhor não te acode, donde te acudirei eu? da eira ou do lagar?

28 A nd the king saith to her, `What -- to thee?' and she saith, `This woman said unto me, Give thy son, and we eat him to-day, and my son we eat to-morrow;

Contudo o rei lhe perguntou: Que tens? E disse ela: Esta mulher me disse: Dá cá o teu filho, para que hoje o comamos, e amanhã comeremos o meu filho.

29 a nd we boil my son and eat him, and I say unto her on the next day, Give thy son, and we eat him; and she hideth her son.'

cozemos, pois, o meu filho e o comemos; e ao outro dia lhe disse eu: Dá cá o teu filho para que o comamos; e ela escondeu o seu filho.

30 A nd it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the words of the woman, that he rendeth his garments, and he is passing by on the wall, and the people see, and lo, the sackcloth on his flesh within.

Ouvindo o rei as palavras desta mulher, rasgou as suas vestes (ora, ele ia passando pelo muro); e o povo olhou e viu que o rei trazia saco por dentro, sobre a sua carne.

31 A nd he saith, `Thus doth God do to me, and thus He doth add -- if it remain -- the head of Elisha son of Shaphat -- upon him this day.'

Então disse ele: Assim me faça Deus, e outro tanto, se a cabeça de Eliseu, filho de Safate, lhe ficar hoje sobre os ombros.

32 A nd Elisha is sitting in his house, and the elders are sitting with him, and sendeth a man from before him; before the messenger doth come unto him, even he himself said unto the elders, `Have ye seen that this son of the murderer hath sent to turn aside my head? see, at the coming in of the messenger, shut the door, and ye have held him fast at the door, is not the sound of the feet of his lord behind him?'

Estava então Eliseu sentado em sua casa, e também os anciãos estavam sentados com ele, quando o rei enviou um homem adiante de si; mas, antes que o mensageiro chegasse a Eliseu, disse este aos anciãos: Vedes como esse filho de homicida mandou tirar-me a cabeça? Olhai quando vier o mensageiro, fechai a porta, e empurrai-o para fora com a porta. Porventura não vem após ele o ruído dos pés do seu senhor?

33 H e is yet speaking with them, and lo, the messenger is coming down unto him, and he saith, `Lo, this the evil from Jehovah: what -- do I wait for Jehovah any more?'

Quando Eliseu ainda estava falando com eles, eis que o mensageiro desceu a ele; e disse: Eis que este mal vem do Senhor; por que, pois, esperaria eu mais pelo Senhor ?
