1 ` An empty vine Israel, Fruit he maketh like to himself, According to the abundance of his fruit, He hath multiplied for the altars, According to the goodness of his land, They have made goodly standing-pillars.

Israel é vide frondosa que dá o seu fruto; conforme a abundância do seu fruto, assim multiplicou os altares; conforme a prosperidade da terra, assim fizeram belas colunas.

2 T heir heart hath been divided, now they are guilty, He doth break down their altars, He doth destroy their standing-pillars.

O seu coração está dividido, por isso serão culpados; ele derribará os altares deles, e lhes destruirá as colunas.

3 F or now they say: We have no king, Because we have not feared Jehovah, And the king -- what doth he for us?

Certamente agora dirão: Não temos rei, porque não tememos ao Senhor; e o rei, que pode ele fazer por nós?

4 T hey have spoken words, To swear falsehood in making a covenant, And flourished as a poisonous herb hath judgment, on the furrows of a field.

Falam palavras vãs; juram falsamente, fazendo pactos; por isso brota o juízo como erva peçonhenta nos sulcos dos campos.

5 F or the calves of Beth-Aven fear do inhabitants of Samaria, Surely mourned on account of it hath its people, And its priests on account of it leap about, Because of its honour, for it hath removed from it,

Os moradores de Samária serão atemorizados por causa do bezerro de Bete-Áven. O seu povo se lamentará por causa dele, como também prantearão os seus sacerdotes idólatras por causa da sua glória, que se apartou dela.

6 A lso it to Asshur is carried, a present to a warlike king, Shame doth Ephraim receive, And ashamed is Israel of its own counsel.

Também será ele levado para Assíria como um presente ao rei Jarebe; Efraim ficará confuso, e Israel se envergonhará por causa do seu próprio conselho.

7 C ut off is Samaria! Its king as a chip on the face of the waters.

O rei de Samária será desfeito como a espuma sobre a face da água.

8 A nd destroyed have been high places of Aven, the sin of Israel. Thorn and bramble go up on their altars, And they have said to hills, Cover us, And to heights, Fall upon us.

E os altos de Áven, pecado de Israel, serão destruídos; espinhos e cardos crescerão sobre os seus altares; e dirão aos montes: Cobri-nos! e aos outeiros: Caí sobre nós!

9 F rom the days of Gibeah thou hast sinned, O Israel, There they have stood, Not overtake them in Gibeah doth battle, Because of sons of perverseness.

Desde os dias de Gibeá tens pecado, ó Israel; ali permaneceram; a peleja contra os filhos da iniqüidade não os alcançará em Gibeá.

10 W hen I desire, then I do bind them, And gathered against them have peoples, When they bind themselves to their two iniquities.

Quando eu quiser, castigá-los-ei; e os povos se congregarão contra eles, quando forem castigados pela sua dupla transgressao.

11 A nd Ephraim a trained heifer -- loving to thresh, And I -- I have passed over on the goodness of its neck, I cause to ride Ephraim, Plough doth Judah, harrow for him doth Jacob.

Porque Efraim era uma novilha domada, que gostava de trilhar; e eu poupava a formosura do seu pescoço; mas porei arreios sobre Efraim; Judá lavrará; Jacó desfará os torrões.

12 S ow for yourselves in righteousness, Reap according to loving-kindness, Till for yourselves tillage of knowledge, To seek Jehovah, Till he come and shew righteousness to you.

Semeai para vós em justiça, colhei segundo a misericórdia; lavrai o campo alqueivado; porque é tempo de buscar ao Senhor, até que venha e chova a justiça sobre vós.

13 Y e have ploughed wickedness, Perversity ye have reaped, Ye have eaten the fruit of lying, For thou hast trusted in thy way, In the abundance of thy might.

Lavrastes a impiedade, segastes a iniqüidade, e comestes o fruto da mentira; porque confiaste no teu caminho, na multidão dos teus valentes.

14 A nd rise doth a tumult among thy people, And all thy fortresses are spoiled, As the spoiling of Shalman of Beth-Arbel, In a day of battle, Mother against sons dashed in pieces.

Portanto, entre o teu povo se levantará tumulto de guerra, e todas as tuas fortalezas serão destruídas, como Salmã destruiu a Bete-Arbel no dia da batalha; a mãe ali foi despedaçada juntamente com os filhos.

15 T hus hath Beth-El done to you, Because of the evil of your wickedness, In the dawn cut off utterly is a king of Israel!

Assim vos fará Betel, por causa da vossa grande malícia; de madrugada será o rei de Israel totalmente destruído.
