1 A nd the anger of Jehovah addeth to burn against Israel, and moveth David about them, saying, `Go, number Israel and Judah.'

A ira do Senhor tornou a acender-se contra Israel, e o Senhor incitou a Davi contra eles, dizendo: Vai, numera a Israel e a Judá.

2 A nd the king saith unto Joab, head of the host that with him, `Go to and fro, I pray thee, through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and inspect ye the people -- and I have known the number of the people.'

Disse, pois, o rei a Joabe, chefe do exército, que estava com ele: Percorre todas as tribos de Israel, desde Dã até Berseba, e numera o povo, para que eu saiba o seu número.

3 A nd Joab saith unto the king, `Yea, Jehovah thy God doth add unto the people, as they are, a hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?'

Então disse Joabe ao rei: Ora, multiplique o Senhor teu Deus a este povo cem vezes tanto quanto agora é, e os olhos do rei meu senhor o vejam. Mas por que tem prazer nisto o rei meu senhor;

4 A nd the word of the king is severe towards Joab, and against the heads of the force, and Joab goeth out, and the heads of the force, before the king to inspect the people, even Israel;

Todavia a palavra do rei prevaleceu contra Joabe, e contra os chefes do exército; Joabe, pois, saiu com os chefes do exército da presença do rei para numerar o povo de Israel.

5 a nd they pass over the Jordan, and encamp in Aroer, on the right of the city that in the midst of the brook of Gad, and unto Jazer,

Tendo eles passado o Jordão, acamparam-se em Aroer, ã direita da cidade que está no meio do vale de Gade e na direção de Jazer;

6 a nd they come in to Gilead, and unto the land of Tahtim-Hodshi, and they come in to Dan-Jaan, and round about unto Zidon,

em seguida foram a Gileade, e a terra de Tatim-Hódsi; dali foram a Da-Jaã, e ao redor até Sidom;

7 a nd they come in to the fortress of Tyre, and all the cities of the Hivite, and of the Canaanite, and go out unto the south of Judah, to Beer-Sheba.

depois foram ã fortaleza de Tiro, e a todas as cidades dos heveus e dos cananeus; e saíram para a banda do sul de Judá, em Berseba.

8 A nd they go to and fro through all the land, and come in at the end of nine months and twenty days to Jerusalem,

Assim, tendo percorrido todo o país, voltaram a Jerusalém, ao cabo de nove meses e vinte dias.

9 a nd Joab giveth the account of the inspection of the people unto the king, and Israel is eight hundred thousand men of valour, drawing sword, and the men of Judah five hundred thousand men.

Joabe, pois, deu ao rei o resultado da numeração do povo. E havia em Israel oitocentos mil homens valorosos, que arrancavam da espada; e os homens de Judá eram quinhentos mil.

10 A nd the heart of David smiteth him, after that he hath numbered the people, and David saith unto Jehovah, `I have sinned greatly in that which I have done, and now, O Jehovah, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'

Mas o coração de Davi o acusou depois de haver ele numerado o povo; e disse Davi ao Senhor: Muito pequei no que fiz; porém agora, ó Senhor, rogo-te que perdoes a iniqüidade do teu servo, porque tenho procedido mui nesciamente.

11 A nd David riseth in the morning, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Gad the prophet, seer of David, saying,

Quando, pois, Davi se levantou pela manhã, veio a palavra do Senhor ao profeta Gade, vidente de Davi, dizendo:

12 ` Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, Thus said Jehovah: Three -- I am lifting up for thee, choose thee one of them, and I do to thee.'

Vai, e dize a Davi: Assim diz o Senhor: Três coisas te ofereço; escolhe qual delas queres que eu te faça.

13 A nd Gad cometh in unto David, and declareth to him, and saith to him, `Do seven years of famine come in to thee in thy land? or three months art thou fleeing before thine adversary -- and he pursuing thee? or are three days' pestilence in thy land? now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.'

Veio, pois, Gade a Davi, e fez-lho saber dizendo-lhe: Queres que te venham sete anos de fome na tua terra; ou que por três meses fujas diante de teus inimigos, enquanto estes te perseguirem; ou que por três dias haja peste na tua terra? Delibera agora, e vê que resposta hei de dar

14 A nd David saith unto Gad, `I have great distress, let us fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for many His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.'

Respondeu Davi a Gade: Estou em grande angústia; porém caiamos nas mãos do Senhor, porque muitas são as suas misericórdias; mas nas mãos dos homens não caia eu.

15 A nd Jehovah giveth a pestilence on Israel from the morning even unto the time appointed, and there die of the people, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, seventy thousand men,

Então enviou o Senhor a peste sobre Israel, desde a manhã até o tempo determinado; e morreram do povo, desde Dã até Berseba, setenta mil homens.

16 a nd the messenger putteth forth his hand to Jerusalem to destroy it, and Jehovah repenteth concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who is destroying among the people, `Enough, now, cease thy hand;' and the messenger of Jehovah was near the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

Ora, quando o anjo estendeu a mão sobre Jerusalém, para a destruir, o Senhor se arrependeu daquele mal; e disse ao anjo que fazia a destruição entre o povo: Basta; retira agora a tua mão. E o anjo do Senhor estava junto ã eira de Araúna, o jebuseu.

17 A nd David speaketh unto Jehovah, when he seeth the messenger who is smiting among the people, and saith, `Lo, I have sinned, yea, I have done perversely; and these -- the flock -- what have they done? Let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father.'

E, vendo Davi ao anjo que feria o povo, falou ao Senhor, dizendo: Eis que eu pequei, e procedi iniquamente; porém estas ovelhas, que fizeram? Seja, pois, a tua mão contra mim, e contra a casa de meu pai.

18 A nd Gad cometh in unto David on that day, and saith to him, `Go up, raise to Jehovah an altar in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite;'

Naquele mesmo dia veio Gade a Davi, e lhe disse: Sobe, levanta ao Senhor um altar na eira de Araúna, o jebuseu:

19 a nd David goeth up, according to the word of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.

Subiu, pois, Davi, conforme a palavra de Gade, como o Senhor havia ordenado.

20 A nd Araunah looketh, and seeth the king and his servants passing over unto him, and Araunah goeth out and boweth himself to the king -- his face to the earth.

E olhando Araúna, viu que vinham ter com ele o rei e os seus servos; saiu, pois, e inclinou-se diante do rei com o rosto em terra.

21 A nd Araunah saith, `Wherefore hath my lord the king come unto his servant?' and David saith, `To buy from thee the threshing-floor, to build an altar to Jehovah, and the plague is restrained from the people.'

Perguntou Araúna: Por que vem o rei meu senhor ao seu servo? Respondeu Davi: Para comprar de ti a eira, a fim de edificar nela um altar ao Senhor, para que a praga cesse de sobre o povo.

22 A nd Araunah saith unto David, `Let my lord the king take and cause to ascend that which is good in his eyes; see, the oxen for a burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments, and the instruments of the oxen, for wood;'

Então disse Araúna a Davi: Tome e ofereça o rei meu senhor o que bem lhe parecer; eis aí os bois para o holocausto, e os trilhos e os aparelhos dos bois para lenha.

23 t he whole hath Araunah given, a king to a king; and Araunah saith unto the king, `Jehovah thy God doth accept thee.'

Tudo isto, ó rei, Araúna te oferece. Disse mais Araúna ao rei: O Senhor teu Deus tome prazer em ti.

24 A nd the king saith unto Araunah, `Nay, for I do surely buy from thee for a price, and I do not cause to ascend to Jehovah my God burnt-offerings for nought;' and David buyeth the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver,

Mas o rei disse a Araúna: Não! antes to comprarei pelo seu valor, porque não oferecerei ao Senhor meu Deus holocaustos que não me custem nada. Comprou, pois, Davi a eira e os bois por cinqüenta siclos de prata.

25 a nd David buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and Jehovah is entreated for the land, and the plague is restrained from Israel.

E edificou ali um altar ao Senhor, e ofereceu holocaustos e ofertas pacíficas. Assim o Senhor se tornou propício para com a terra, e cessou aquela praga de sobre Israel.
