1 A nd Jehovah sendeth Nathan unto David, and he cometh unto him, and saith to him: `Two men have been in one city; One rich and one poor;

O Senhor, pois, enviou Natã a Davi. E, entrando ele a ter com Davi, disse-lhe: Havia numa cidade dois homens, um rico e outro pobre.

2 T he rich hath flocks and herds very many;

O rico tinha rebanhos e manadas em grande número;

3 A nd the poor one hath nothing, Except one little ewe-lamb, Which he hath bought, and keepeth alive, And it groweth up with him, And with his sons together; Of his morsel it eateth, And from his cup it drinketh, And in his bosom it lieth, And it is to him as a daughter;

mas o pobre não tinha coisa alguma, senão uma pequena cordeira que comprara e criara; ela crescera em companhia dele e de seus filhos; do seu bocado comia, do seu copo bebia, e dormia em seu regaço; e ele a tinha como filha.

4 A nd there cometh a traveller to the rich man, And he spareth to take Of his own flock, and of his own herd, To prepare for the traveller Who hath come to him, And he taketh the ewe-lamb of the poor man, And prepareth it for the man Who hath come unto him.'

Chegou um viajante ã casa do rico; e este, não querendo tomar das suas ovelhas e do seu gado para guisar para o viajante que viera a ele, tomou a cordeira do pobre e a preparou para o seu hóspede.

5 A nd the anger of David burneth against the man exceedingly, and he saith unto Nathan, `Jehovah liveth, surely a son of death the man who is doing this,

Então a ira de Davi se acendeu em grande maneira contra aquele homem; e disse a Natã: Vive o Senhor, que digno de morte é o homem que fez isso.

6 a nd the ewe-lamb he doth repay fourfold, because that he hath done this thing, and because that he had no pity.'

Pela cordeira restituirá o quádruplo, porque fez tal coisa, e não teve compaixão.

7 A nd Nathan saith unto David, `Thou the man! Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I anointed thee for king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

Então disse Natã a Davi: Esse homem és tu! Assim diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Eu te ungi rei sobre Israel, livrei-te da mão de Saul,

8 a nd I give to thee the house of thy lord, and the wives of thy lord, into thy bosom, and I give to thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if little, then I add to thee such and such.

e te dei a casa de teu senhor, e as mulheres de teu senhor em teu seio; também te dei a casa de Israel e de Judá. E se isso fosse pouco, te acrescentaria outro tanto.

9 ` Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah, to do the evil thing in His eyes? Uriah the Hittite thou hast smitten by the sword, and his wife thou hast taken to thee for a wife, and him thou hast slain by the sword of the Bene-Ammon.

Por que desprezaste a palavra do Senhor, fazendo o mal diante de seus olhos? A Urias, o heteu, mataste ã espada, e a sua mulher tomaste para ser tua mulher; sim, a ele mataste com a espada dos amonitas.

10 ` And now, the sword doth not turn aside from thy house unto the age, because thou hast despised Me, and dost take the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be to thee for a wife;

Agora, pois, a espada jamais se apartará da tua casa, porquanto me desprezaste, e tomaste a mulher de Urias, o heteu, para ser tua mulher.

11 t hus said Jehovah, Lo, I am raising up against thee evil, out of thy house, and have taken thy wives before thine eyes, and given to thy neighbour, and he hath lain with thy wives before the eyes of this sun;

Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que suscitarei da tua própria casa o mal sobre ti, e tomarei tuas mulheres perante os teus olhos, e as darei a teu próximo, o qual se deitará com tuas mulheres ã luz deste sol.

12 f or thou hast done in secret, and I do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.'

Pois tu o fizeste em oculto; mas eu farei este negócio perante todo o Israel e ã luz do sol.

13 A nd David saith unto Nathan, `I have sinned against Jehovah.' And Nathan saith unto David, `Also -- Jehovah hath caused thy sin to pass away; thou dost not die;

Então disse Davi a Natã: Pequei contra o Senhor. Tornou Natã a Davi: Também o Senhor perdoou o teu pecado; não morreras.

14 o nly, because thou hast caused the enemies of Jehovah greatly to despise by this thing, also the son who is born to thee doth surely die.'

Todavia, porquanto com este feito deste lugar a que os inimigos do Senhor blasfemem, o filho que te nasceu certamente morrerá.

15 A nd Nathan goeth unto his house, and Jehovah smiteth the lad, whom the wife of Uriah hath born to David, and it is incurable;

Então Natã foi para sua casa. Depois o Senhor feriu a criança que a mulher de Urias dera a Davi, de sorte que adoeceu gravemente.

16 a nd David seeketh God for the youth, and David keepeth a fast, and hath gone in and lodged, and lain on the earth.

Davi, pois, buscou a Deus pela criança, e observou rigoroso jejum e, recolhendo-se, passava a noite toda prostrado sobre a terra.

17 A nd the elders of his house rise against him, to raise him up from the earth, and he hath not been willing, nor hath he eaten with them bread;

Então os anciãos da sua casa se puseram ao lado dele para o fazerem levantar-se da terra; porém ele não quis, nem comeu com eles.

18 a nd it cometh to pass on the seventh day, that the lad dieth, and the servants of David fear to declare to him that the lad is dead, for they said, `Lo, in the lad being alive we spake unto him, and he did not hearken to our voice; and how do we say unto him, The lad is dead? -- then he hath done evil.'

Ao sétimo dia a criança morreu; e temiam os servos de Davi dizer-lhe que a criança tinha morrido; pois diziam: Eis que, sendo a criança ainda viva, lhe falávamos, porém ele não dava ouvidos ã nossa voz; como, pois, lhe diremos que a criança morreu? Poderá cometer um desatino.

19 A nd David seeth that his servants are whispering, and David understandeth that the lad is dead, and David saith unto his servants, `Is the lad dead?' and they say, `Dead.'

Davi, porém, percebeu que seus servos cochichavam entre si, e entendeu que a criança havia morrido; pelo que perguntou a seus servos: Morreu a criança? E eles responderam: Morreu.

20 A nd David riseth from the earth, and doth bathe and anoint, and changeth his raiment, and cometh in to the house of Jehovah, and boweth himself, and cometh unto his house, and asketh and they place for him bread, and he eateth.

Então Davi se levantou da terra, lavou-se, ungiu-se, e mudou de vestes; e, entrando na casa do Senhor, adorou. Depois veio a sua casa, e pediu o que comer; e lho deram, e ele comeu.

21 A nd his servants say unto him, `What this thing thou hast done? because of the living lad thou hast fasted and dost weep, and when the lad is dead thou hast risen and dost eat bread.'

Então os seus servos lhe disseram: Que é isso que fizeste? pela criança viva jejuaste e choraste; porém depois que a criança morreu te levantaste e comeste.

22 A nd he saith, `While the lad is alive I have fasted, and weep, for I said, Who knoweth? -- Jehovah doth pity me, and the lad hath lived;

Respondeu ele: Quando a criança ainda vivia, jejuei e chorei, pois dizia: Quem sabe se o Senhor não se compadecerá de mim, de modo que viva a criança?

23 a nd now, he hath died, why this -- I fast? am I able to bring him back again? I am going unto him, and he doth not turn back unto me.'

Todavia, agora que é morta, por que ainda jejuaria eu? Poderei eu fazê-la voltar? Eu irei para ela, porém ela não voltará para mim.

24 A nd David comforteth Bath-Sheba his wife, and goeth in unto her, and lieth with her, and she beareth a son, and he calleth his name Solomon; and Jehovah hath loved him,

Então consolou Davi a Bate-Seba, sua mulher, e entrou, e se deitou com ela. E teve ela um filho, e Davi lhe deu o nome de Salomão. E o Senhor o amou;

25 a nd sendeth by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and calleth his name Jedidiah, because of Jehovah.

e mandou, por intermédio do profeta Natã, dar-lhe o nome de Jedidias, por amor do Senhor.

26 A nd Joab fighteth against Rabbah of the Bene-Ammon, and captureth the royal city,

Ora, pelejou Joabe contra Rabá, dos amonitas, e tomou a cidade real.

27 a nd Joab sendeth messengers unto David, and saith, `I have fought against Rabbah -- also I have captured the city of waters;

Então mandou Joabe mensageiros a Davi, e disse: Pelejei contra Rabá, e já tomei a cidade das águas.

28 a nd now, gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city, and capture it, lest I capture the city, and my name hath been called upon it.'

Ajunta, pois, agora o resto do povo, acampa contra a cidade e toma-a, para que eu não a tome e seja o meu nome aclamado sobre ela.

29 A nd David gathereth all the people, and goeth to Rabbah, and fighteth against it, and captureth it;

Então Davi ajuntou todo o povo, e marchou para Rabá; pelejou contra ela, e a tomou.

30 a nd he taketh the crown of their king from off his head, and its weight a talent of gold, and precious stones, and it is on the head of David; and the spoil of the city he hath brought out, very much;

Também tirou a coroa da cabeça do seu rei; e o peso dela era de um talento de ouro e havia nela uma pedra preciosa; e foi posta sobre a cabeça de Davi, que levou da cidade mui grande despojo.

31 a nd the people who in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes of iron, and hath caused them to pass over into the brick-kiln; and so he doth to all the cities of the Bene-Ammon; and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.

E, trazendo os seus habitantes, os pôs a trabalhar com serras, trilhos de ferro, machados de ferro, e em fornos de tijolos; e assim fez a todas as cidades dos amonitas. Depois voltou Davi e todo o povo para Jerusalém.
